Using your air in public.
Hi all, so, i went out and bought myself this super cool, super fast macbook air. now, the reason that i bought this fine machine is because of it's small size and portability. well, now that spring is here, i am wanting to take it out with me to coffee shops etc. i live in a city and am concerned about the safety of using such a machine in an outdoor public setting. i went to the mac online store and looked up the kensington lock and, alas, it does not work with the air. so, here's my question to you all. do you all take your portable machines out with you? and, if you do, what sort of security measures, if any, do you take? have any of you had problems with having your computers stolen? and, if so, what did you do? did you get it back? i would be extremely upset if i had my machine stolen on one hand yet, on the other hand, i do not want to be restricted to using it only in the safety of my own home. if i wanted to stay at home, i would have purchased the less costly mini. i look forward to hearing your experiences and suggestions. thanks much. Re: Using your air in public.
Hi all, i think you misunderstood me. yes, i have a case for my air and, i also carry it in a backpack. what is my concern is having it stolen right out of my hands. say, for example, that i am sitting outside at a coffee shop and typing away on the computer with my earbuds in and someone just takes the machine and runs off with it. this is my concern. even if i have my hands on it they can still grab it and run. are others afraid of such happening? am i being to paranoid? what do sighted folks do with their expensive machines? do they just use them and not worry about it? i am off to check out these links now. thanks a lot. um, wow. here loads of folks sit at coffee shops with their computers, iPads, and iPhones. i can not use the kensington lock on the air but i have had other suggestions and observations from folks on this list. if it's a nice sunny summer day and i want to hang out at a coffee shop and do stuff online then, i will be taking the air with me. there's just lots of stuff that i can not do on my iPhone. Re: Iphone Se.
i have the iPhone SE 64 gig and absolutely love this phone. it looks exactly like an iPhone 5 or 5S. the battery life is amazing. i tested my battery and, with heavy use, that means, listening to bard, using voiceDream, listening to the news, using KNFB reader briefly, and talking on the phone for a few hours, as well as texting and using facebook, this battery lasted me over 27 hours. this phone has the best battery life of any iPhone that i have owned. and i love the smaller size. the sound, well, it’s not super great but, it’s a small speaker. i am glad i got this new phone and sold my 6S. i hope they continue to offer the smaller phones. Re: Iphone Se.
i just turned it all the way up and had voiceover read the screen and, no, it did not distort. but, with that being said, i don’t like to blast my little phone speaker. it’s not really meant for high volume. when i first got it, i was thinking that it did not sound as good as the 6 but, i am used to it now and it doesn’t sound bad at all. i am using samantha compact as well which makes it not sound great but, i like it better. Re: blind square
i absolutely love this app. i am still learning the new city that i have moved to and, this app is great for that. yesterday, for example, i was on paratransit. well, you know how they tend to drive you about, who knows where, while on your way to your destination? i started my blind square app and just had a listen as we were going along. we pulled into a parking lot, i shook the phone and it told me we were at a grocery store. i asked the driver; hey, are we at the grocery store and he said; we sure are. it's great for learning new streets as well as what's around you when on out of town trips also. i do use my navigation apps with ear buds though instead of bluetooth. i think it's just the nature of the beast but, things seem to be cut out completely or the first part is chopped off. my experience upgrading to yosemite 10.10.2
hi all, so, i decided to upgrade from mavericks to the latest yosemite a few days ago. the first thing i noticed was, o.o crap, vmWare fusion 6.2 won’t work so, now i am running the latest 7.2 version in demo mode. next thing, programs like skype, mail, safari, did not work as usual. so, i restarted the machine and, wow, some of that was magically fixed. then, voiceover would not say the letters N and O. no matter where i was or what i was doing, nothing in the N or O department. typing, or reading letter by letter. so, this morning i restarted again and, what do you know, now i can hear the N’s and O’s again. also, when using the backspace to delete or edit, voiceover would not speak at all. i had to totally guess what i was doing. very weird, but, after the latest restart this morning, i have that back as well. all this is super strange. does anybody have any ideas what was happening? thanks for any input. Re: Pandora frustrations
ok, when you first open pandora it will start playing the last station that you were listening to. flick left until you hear, backarrow. double tap there. then just flick right and you will see all of the stations that you have created. you may end up with an advert when you first start as well, in which case you have to get out of that first. there is usually a done button somewhere that you can double tap on to get you back into your station.
