Re: Looking for a good English Dictionary for the iPhone that does just a little bit more
Actually Advanced English Dictionary might be a better idea, since the way in which WordBook let's you look up any word in a definition by making each word a link makes definitions a pain to listen to. They're both pretty good. Respectfully, Aser Tolentino, Esq. Re: Saving Attachments on iPAD.
Hi, I don't believe the iPad can do that natively, so you'd need an app like Filer. When you get an attachment you want to save, you use the "open with" menu to send it to Filer or a similar app. From there, you can transfer it via cloud service, USB or wi-fi. Not sure what happens if you do the above directly to the Dropbox app. HTH Respectfully, Aser Tolentino, Esq. agtolent...@gmail.com (916)572-2737 Sent from my iPad On Dec 28, 2011, at 2:47 PM, Georges Zaynoun wrote: > Happy holidays people! > > If I receive a message with an attachment on my iPAD say an mp3, I can open > it and play it from the email but how can I save it permanently on the iPAD? > > > Thanks. > > -- > Georges Zeinoun > Timmerv. 6A, SE54163 SKÖVDE > Tel: +46500201623, +46500482929 > Mobile: +46707567315 > E-mail: humorlessg...@samobile.net > > Email services provided by the System Access Mobile Network. The equivalent to a context menu for an element is typically activated by double tapping and holding, but this is neither universal nor as ubiquitous as you'd find on desktop operating systems. To select all; move through the rotor until you get to "edit" then flick up until you reach select all. You can then double tap to select and delete or replace as you like. Re: Braille Touch: please help get Apple onboard
I for one can't type at 32 words per minute at any sort of accuracy on the iPhone or iPad (without a bluetooth keyboard :)) so I'm eager to see this thing in action. The developers' practical testing has been admittedly limited, but even a fraction of that potential improvement could save minutes every day. As to some of the other concerns, the team might be eager to share, but has Georgia Tech as an institution weighed in? I don't see the harm in asking Apple to incorporate it into the OS though, barring legal concerns, it's just another language keyboard; I mean, there's one for emoticons...! lol Respectfully, Aser Tolentino, Esq. The official Twitter app seems to not be showing me any tweets. I've never used it though, preferring TweetList and Twitterrific, both of which are extremely VoiceOver friendly. Re: Is Amazon Prime not usable through the Amazon iPhone App
Prime isn't an option in and of itself. If you are a Prime subscriber, prime eligible items will simply be eligible for free two-day shipping and one-day shipping at $3.99 each I believe. The easiest way in the app to tell if an item is Prime eligible is if it asks you if you want it delivered by the next business day and suggests one day shipping. It will also say something like sold by and shipped from Amazon or sold by (seller name) and fulfilled by Amazon. In product searches, you can also filter results so that only prime eligible items are displayed. Re: Accessibility of Hangouts on the iPhone
Hi Mike, The latest version of Hangouts is extremely usable with all functions labeled and responsive. It is somewhat resource intensive though, so be prepared to put up with some lag on older devices. It supports voice and audio calls between up to seven people I think. You can even invite people when already in the call. Lastly, on a less positive note, it can be a serious drain on battery. Re: OT: looking for recommendations for good headphones
Hi Alex, For audio editing, I use around-the-ear headphones, Sony MDRV6s, that sound great. They have a reputation for having a sound that doesn't mask the qualities of the original audio source. I wouldn't exactly call them mobile headphones, though they do fold up for transport or storage. For something a little lighter, I'd recommend the Sennheiser PX200, on-the-ear closed cup headphones. Sennheiser makes these with an in-line remote and microphone for use with iOS devices and Macs. Both are more towards the top of your budget but well worth it in my opinion. > On Nov 24, 2014, at 14:34, Devin Prater wrote: > > I’ve used beats before, and they couldn’t handle being in a backpack, in > their own compartment. > >> On Nov 24, 2014, at 4:30 PM, Matt Dierckens wrote: >> >> Hi Alex, >> It all depends on your price range. Needless to say, they are pretty uncomfortable to wear for more than an hour or so. I'd use them for music, audio editing, and audio gaming, so I want something comfortable for hours on end and of good sound and build quality. Here are the things I'm looking for: * under $100, if possible * high quality build, good sound * comfortable for extended use * wired connection, preferably 3.5mm * Only one plug - no use having a microphone plug since my Macbook only has one audio jack * noise-muffling, though true noise cancelation is not necessary (basically, I don't care about hearing sounds around me with these) I think that'll do it. As I said, I'm not waring these while out for a walk or carting them around, so they can be big and block ambient noises. My Aftershokz are great for use with my iPhone, but for real audio on the Mac, I want something good that I can wear for a long time. If long-term comfort is a priority, Sennheiser's higher end headphones are the way to go, their ear cushions are ridiculously soft. The MDRV6 has replaceable ear pads, but I'm not sure about the cord. Re: selecting text in iOs 4 using voiceover
Hi, To select text, navigate to where you wish the selection to begin, then place to fingers together and pull them apart in opposite directions,, like an opening or pulling apart motion. I've had trouble with VoiceOver mistaking this motion for a rotor turn and have had better luck using two hands. In an email exchange over how to make an app more accessible, a developer informed me that his rich text editor could not reliably select text while VoiceOver was active due to an apparent limitation in Webkit. As I think all IS browsers are based on that technology, it seems that the workaround suggested below might be the simplest way to get at text consistently. Perhaps this will be made simpler by Safari's reader functionality in IS5? Re: Show Notes for Podcasts
Show notes are typically embedded in a podcast file. Tapping on a playing podcast's album art in the iPod app will display them. Most podcast apps have some similar feature, often part of a contextual menu. You can also usually find the notes at the podcast's feed page. Re: itunes sort by artist
In iTunes, move one element left of iTunes search, where you should find something called view mode, interact with that and select grid view. When you then scroll passed the source list, you should eventually encounter buttons that allow you to group by artist, album, genre etc. Select which one you want and then keep scrolling until you hear VoiceOver say "grid view, one item selected" or something similar. Interact with that and you should find your music sorted by the criteria you selected above. The Blind Mice Movie Vault contains many, many audio-described movies and television shows in mp3 format. I would like to get them onto my iPhone. However, for some reason, when I download them, they are not being put in my iTunes library. Is there a way to do tis one case at a time, or aother way to get them onto my iPhone without resorting to the iTunes library? Should I just "drag and drop" into the library, or is there some easier method? TIA. Christine -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: reading with voice over in text edit
Hi Ahmed, How are you pausing VoiceOver? I find that by pressing control, pressing VO+A resumes at the place where reading stopped, as does pressing control again.
