Article recapping Braille improvements on IOS 18

2024-09-16 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

Does anyone know of a good article—as in the written word—about the new braille
improvements in IOS 18. I googled it, but all I got were podcasts. No offense
to anyone, but I hate podcasts. They take way too long, and there’s way too
much chatter. I just don’t have time for all that. I would much rather just
read something.
TIA,
Donna

Important heads-up re updating to IOS 18

2024-09-16 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

I just wanted to make everyone aware of a problem I encountered when I updated
to IOS 18. The update appeared to go off without a hitch, until I had to enter
my Pass code. Voiceover did not speak any of the numbers in the number pad. I
tried turning VO on and off, and restarting my phone, and nothing helped. My
Brailliant said it was paired, but I could not use it to enter my pass code. I
recommend that if possible, you have a sighted person available when you
update, in case you run into this same problem. So much for improved
accessibility. *sigh*
Cheers,
Donna

Such strong feelings about podcasts. Some of the best podcasts describing
these features have transcripts. Read these transcripts and wow, you get

Hi Joseph,

I did send it off to Apple accessibility this afternoon. I figure all the
accessibility improvements in the world aren’t worth much if you end up blocked
out of your phone. Anyway, as we all know the more people report these bugs the
more likely they are to be fixed. So if you can, find a little time to send it
off to Apple accessibility.
Cheers,

Re: Important heads-up re updating to IOS 18

2024-09-16 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

Just by way of follow up, after I’ve gotten my phone booted up, and all was
well, I restarted it, to see if the problem persisted every time I had to enter
my password. It does not. The only problem is the initial unlocking of your
phone after the update.
Cheers,
Donna

Everything I do with Amazon, I do on the iOS app.
To me, it is much more efficient than using the the web browser on PC or Mac.

2024-09-16 Thread Ian Robinson
Hi Lorie,

After following a link to buy an Amazon Book, I find the only way to get to the
Buy button is to press the Tab key a few times. Once focus is on the button, VO
and Left Cursor allows me to confirm the price.

Re: Amazon

2024-09-16 Thread Karen Lewellen
Interestingly enough, at least in Linux tools, it is now almost impossible
to refuse joining prime. as in the button alt tagged continue without
the prime benefits shows as a display link in the status bar.
Frankly stunning, most other aspects seem possible, other than this force
feeding of prime.

For the record, it shows in Ubuntu.
