I also had a serious problem with mail on my Mac mini doing this. It drove me
nuts! The solution I came to was to roll back a couple of os versions.

Try visiting applevis.com, where you'll find thread upon thread of complaints
about "not responding" (previously "busy") problems with VoiceOver for Mac,
year after year, and with no resolution.

The best you can do is probably lodge a support case with Apple.

Re: Not Responding Message

2022-12-23 Thread Herbie Allen
It’s still worth checking the network as I think apps send some sort of
authentication information through the cloud when you open them. The age of
your Mac is also going to be a factor, but I would also try programs like Onyx
and Malware Bytes. These are free options you can try.

Unresponsive Finder, M1 Mac mini, Ventura 13.1

2022-12-23 Thread 'Mary Ward' via MacVisionaries
This problem with the unresponsive finder has been getting worse for a while
now, but it is making it more difficult for me to use the machine now. I had
to wait several minutes this time after I rebooted the Mac. Then it just was
very slow instead of completely unresponsive. I know that something is wrong
but I can’t figure out what it is.

Do I need to just bite the bullet and call AppleCare? Thanks for any pointers.

I am experiencing this at times as well. I am not sure why but if I
command-tab away and restart VoiceOver and go back to Finder, it seems to fix

Erasing drive formatted for Windows

2022-12-23 Thread 'Mary Ward' via MacVisionaries
Hi again. What format do I need for erasing a hard disc to use on the Mac? It
is currently formatted for Windows, which means I can’t write to it. I plan to
use it to store things like books, movies, music and the like. APFS case
sensitive, encrypted, etc? I was about to erase it when I realized I was not
quite sure what format to choose. I do not need to keep the two or three PDF
files that came with it, and that is all that is on the disc.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Erasing drive formatted for Windows

2022-12-23 Thread Matthew Dyer

Hi,

If you just want to use it for storing stuff you copy over, then xfat
should work just fine.  If you want to use it as a backup then apfs is
what you want.

HTH.

Re: Erasing drive formatted for Windows

2022-12-23 Thread 'Mary Ward' via MacVisionaries
So maybe I don’t have to erase it at all? I’m not using it for Time Machine or
any kind of disk cloning app or anything like that. I will try to copy things
there again and see if I can do it.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Erasing drive formatted for Windows

2022-12-23 Thread Maurice A. mines
Hi if this drive is for windows on a pc, Ntfs is the only option. Also
that drive if it is butting windows, the drive layout must be “MBR”
if it is just a storage drive, “guid” is fine. I hope that this helps.

If this is an external disk, I recommend using XFAT. This format will allow
you to use the drive on either Mac or Windows as necessary.
