Re: Annoying issue with iPad lock screen

2021-12-11 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Tim, you’re brilliant. I just changed it, so still have to test, but I’m
pretty sure I found it. Just for your and anyone else’s information, there’s a
setting under brightness and display to automatically wake up iPad when you
lift the iPad cover. That was set to on, so, since I don’t have a cover, I
think it was interpreting any change in contact with the screen as the cover
being lifted. I have changed that to off, and expect that will solve the
problem.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I had checked in accessibility,
but of course, had not found a solution there.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: text messages on an iPhone

2021-12-11 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Good place to use the item chooser. In the list of threads quadruple tap with
three fingers. This should bring up the item chooser and then type "unread" in
the search field.
If you have a bluetooth keyboard that is paired with the phone, then use
control-option-I to start the item chooser.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Having trouble with MS-Edge lately. Not too thrilled with Safari and how chatty

Re: Alternate Browsers on Mac

2021-12-11 Thread Eric Oyen
Google chrome seems to work ok, although it doesn’t poll the keychain access
file for passwords (it tries to store them internally). On sites where some of
the elements aren’t workable in safari, chrome might work (although this is hit
or miss a lot of the time).

Oh, and forget about Firefox as it is barely accessible and tends not to render
some sites in a way the screen reader understands).

Re: Alternate Browsers on Mac

2021-12-11 Thread Eric Oyen
yeah. I get that on some sites as well using safari. Part of it is probably
improper web code or use of non-standard html tags. Btw, have you tried edge on
the gmail website set in basic html mode? If the problem shows up there, then
it’s likely edge that’s the problem. Then again, Microsoft was never very good
at producing accessible products that worked on platforms other than their
flagship OS.
