Tim, you’re brilliant. I just changed it, so still have to test, but I’m pretty sure I found it. Just for your and anyone else’s information, there’s a setting under brightness and display to automatically wake up iPad when you lift the iPad cover. That was set to on, so, since I don’t have a cover, I think it was interpreting any change in contact with the screen as the cover being lifted. I have changed that to off, and expect that will solve the problem.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I had checked in accessibility, but of course, had not found a solution there.
