Yes, I face it since Big Sur 11.3 or so. I’m not sure, but it still exists in

RE: Recent Siri Changes Remove Call, Email, and Voicemail Features Used by Low Vision and Blind Users

2021-09-30 Thread Rebecca Skipper
Thanks for sharing this article.
I have mixed views on this .
On the one hand, I think it is important to learn Apple's native user
interface, but on the other hand it is very frustrating to lose Siri features
that people depend on.
Does the removal of certain Siri features impact sighted users as well or just
the visually impaired?
It doesn't sound like a Voiceover bug to me.
This hurts Apple's reputation as a trend setter in accessibility.
The good news is that if you have an Apple Homepod Mini you can still play
voicemails.

2021-09-30 Thread Rebecca Skipper
I appreciate your perspective, and I prefer to use a keyboard over touch screen
when I can.
The population of people you work with who depend on these features are the
ones being impacted by this.
Apple is not sending a good message here.
Siri has never been one of my favorite digital assistants though.
There is too much emphasis on cameras and not enough stability in software as
far as I'm concerned i.e. taking out features after advertising them.

I also prefer to use a keyboard as well. I only use Siri for the most simple of
tasks such as a fast way to open an application or using it on the Apple watch
to get my location if I realized I passed a street I was supposed to cross. So
I'm not a Siri expert by any stretch of the imagination.
Having said that, I agree these features need to be available for a demographic
that need them.

I really enjoy this discussion.

Best,

Sounds like your Apple Mail client is blocking HTML content in Junk email.
If you navigate outside of the mail item’s content area, you should find a bar
with a button to show hidden content. This should be located between the
content area, and the header area.

RE: Recent Siri Changes Remove Call, Email, and Voicemail Features Used by Low Vision and Blind Users

2021-09-30 Thread Rebecca Skipper
I understand where you are coming from, but would it be possible to use the
double tap feature to open up something like Alexa or the Google Assistant to
carry out certain commands and teach this to clients as a backup to Siri?

I also prefer to use a keyboard as well. I only use Siri for the most simple of
tasks such as a fast way to open an application or using it on the Apple watch
to get my location if I realized I passed a street I was supposed to cross. So
I'm not a Siri expert by any stretch of the imagination.
Having said that, I agree these features need to be available for a demographic
that need them.

I really enjoy this discussion.

Best,

Re: dropbox notifications

2021-09-30 Thread Brad Snyder
Try changing your Dropbox notifications to a persistent Alert, instead of a
Banner.
This should keep them on the screen until you have a chance to read them, and
then dismiss each alert.

One thing to keep in mind, though, Rebecca, is that some of us choose not to

RE: Recent Siri Changes Remove Call, Email, and Voicemail Features Used by Low Vision and Blind Users

2021-09-30 Thread Rebecca Skipper
Well, until IOS15 Siri had to go to the cloud to get info so I believe privacy
compromises were made there to.
I wonder if the ability to use Siri offline means that certain features were
removed.
This just occurred to me.

Hi Dave,

Open the Airport Utility, interact with the scroll area and VO-space on your
Airport device. Once you’ve open the configuration for the Airport device, you
should have tabs like Basic, Internet, Wireless and Disks. The Disks tab is
where you configure File Sharing and such for connecting to attached disks.

Re: Recent Siri Changes Remove Call, Email, and Voicemail Features Used by Low Vision and Blind Users

2021-09-30 Thread doug . lawlor
All of these assistants will always have to go to the cloud to get something.
The main problem I see is that some of the older demographic, who prefer a
device that has buttons for doing things, have a great deal of trouble
adjusting to a touch screen environment. These people would be satisfied with
something resembling either a candy bar or flip phone. If they could use a
telephone keypad and get voice feedback they would be happy. I don't think any
of the major carriors in canada cary such a phone.

2021-09-30 Thread Rebecca Skipper
Okay, see if someone in Canada would consider selling the Blind Shell phone.
Here is a website with all current distributors, and I think the CNIB is listed.
The advantage, as I understand it, is that the Blind Shell has customized apps
that are proprietary but still offer the functionality you would see in a smart
phone i.e. Voice Assistant.

I do not fully trust the cloud but use it because of convenience.
Once the wallet issue in IOS15 is resolved, I am definitely taking advantage of
the on device support.
I remember when Apple justifiably got some criticism for listening to user
recordings from Siri through private contractors.
At least give people the choice of using an assistant offline.
Apple should be commended for that feature.

How to find a file on the Mac

2021-09-30 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

I’m trying to find the location of a file on my Mac, so that I can copy it to a
new location where I can easily find it. Spotlight finds the file, but does
not give me the file path. I can open the file in Preview, but that is not
what I need to do. Is there any way to get a spotlight search either to show
me the file’s location, or give me access so I can copy it?
TIA,
Donna

Accessing iCloud Drive from two different user profiles on a PC?

2021-09-30 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

Somehow my Windows user Profile got corrupted, so I had to create a second user
profile on my PC. Unfortunately, all my stuff is in the original profile. I
was hoping that at least a partial work-around would be to be able to access my
iCloud Drive from both user profiles, but when I set up iCloud in the new
profile, rather than just giving me access, it seems to have created a second
copy of my iCloud Drive, and now I’m getting disk full error messages. Does
anyone know if there’s a way to access iCloud Drive from two different Windows
user profiles without having two copies of the drive on your hard disk?
TIA,
Donna

With the file open in Preview, you should be able to open the Save As dialog
using CMD + OPT + Shift + S, where you should be able to determine the current
location of the open file.

So since my upgrade, I get no alert notification sounds. This is happening on
both my iPhone and iPad. I just updated my watch today, so don’t know about
it, yet. Anyone know if there’s a fix for this?
TIA,
Donna

Notification sounds are fine on my iPhone (running iOS 15), so this
isn't happening to everyone. I don't know what the circumstances might
be that give rise to the problem.

I've already started using the new focus options, which are a valuable
addition to the operating system.

Re: Anyone else noticed that notification sounds stopped working after upgrading to IOS 15?

2021-09-30 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
I have no idea. I googled it, and it was suggested that you turn off all focus
options, A check in the control center to make sure that there wasn’t a focus
option running, and then as a last resort reboot your phone. I’ve done all
three, and nothing has helped. And I did figure out that it is not happening on
my watch, but it is happening on my phone and my iPad. It’s very annoying.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Voiceover reading pages in pdf documents twice

2021-09-30 Thread Mike Arrigo
Yes, I experience the same thing. The best way I have found to get around this
is to open the PDF file in preview, press command+a to select all of the text,
then press command+c to copy it. Then I paste it in to text edit and read it
from there.

Re: How to find a file on the Mac

2021-09-30 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Alternatively, go to the Finder, press cmd-f to bring up the Find window. In
the resulting search field, enter the name of the document you wish to find.
Press cmd-2 to ensure that you’re in List view then navigate to the Scroll area
where the List view table is. Interact with the table and find the document
you desire.

Now, you’ve got two methods you can use to find its location. First, just
press cmd-i to GetInfo on the document and there will be an item there that
says where the file is currently located. I believe that the title in front
says “Where”. For the second method, stop interacting with the table and the
Scroll area, then navigate right to the “Path List”. Interact with this and
the path to the document is outlined right there.

HTH.

Later…

No, that’s not it. I’ve been sitting here without my watch on because it’s on

Auto Filling the Email Address?

2021-09-30 Thread Fazil
Hi, Group.

When I start typing email address in To Field, Voiceover completes it. What
should I do when the email address is filled out? Should I tab to the next
field or should I press enter to acknowledge the auto-completion of the
address?

Thanks!

Re: Anyone else noticed that notification sounds stopped working after upgrading to IOS 15?

2021-09-30 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello Donna, and list,

I have noticed this issue since upgrading. It is rather frustrating. I
have an iPhone 12 Mini. As well as a series 5 watch. I don't run all the
Apps possible on my watch, or receive all my notifications on there. So
I can't speak for how the watch is functioning.

Although, I do seem to be aware of the notifications that do come to it.

However, with my phone sometimes I will get notification sounds. Most of
the time, I do not.

This evening we used Uuber Eats for dinner, and I was beginning to
wonder why I hadn't heard anything. I picked up my phone, and it is a
good thing that I did. The delivery person was there. But while the
notification was there, a sound didn't happen.

I sure hope if a small update is put out soon, that it fixes this issue.
I too have tried rebooting my phone. As well as shutting off the focus
options. But this doesn't seem to matter.

So no, it is definitely not just you. I hope this helps. I am sorry
though I don't have any possible solutions.

Terri

Notification sounds are fine on my iPhone (running iOS 15), so this isn't
happening to everyone. I don't know what the circumstances might be that give
rise to the problem.

I've already started using the new focus options, which are a valuable addition
to the operating system.

You could use VoiceOver navigation, using VO + right/left arrow keys, or you
could press the Tab key.
Either one will get the job done, but I recommend using VoiceOver navigation.
