Re: Issue with USB LAN connection

2021-03-13 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
assuming ,both router and MAC see an active ethernet port it is router
configuration that would be holding you back. I do not have a bluetooth adaptor
at the moment, so I have no way of looking at what details are provided. That
being said there is either an advanced or details butt'on in network settings,
and this brings up a dialog with several tabs. One other thing to check is make
sure dhcp is enabled on the router.
On some routers you have to configure this for each port.

Off topic, Python programming teacher for a friend?

2021-03-13 Thread Karen Lewellen

Asking here because so many of you are professionals.

Going to ask about this in a few places. If you know of a prospect, send them
to me off list.
I have an associate who lives in Malta and wishes to learn the Python
Programming language. They prefer a teacher, can pay for the work, and seek to
work with someone who understands programming when experiencing blindness, if
not blind themselves.
they work in the adaptive technology field in Malta, and while English is not
their first language, they can communicate in it.
Better still a combination of electronic course work so they can use their
screen reader, and learning via Skype or zoom would perhaps be ideal.

Their current platform of choice seems to be windows.
Any prospects, let me know.
Best,
Karen

Re: Issue with USB LAN connection

2021-03-13 Thread Jonathan Cohn
First, I thought of one simple possibility. Most routers have a port
specifically designed for connecting to another hub or router if you try to
connect a computer to that port it will not work. Try attaching your MAC to a
different connector on the router and see if that helps.
If that does not help, then without knowing the make model of the router no
additional help can occur.
If your ISP provided the router than they should be able to help.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

If you want an M1 or similar Apple Silicon processor (and everything
I've read about their performance is positive), you could wait for a new
iMac to be released. If you can't wait, there's the M1 Mac Mini.

That's exactly what I was doing. But it wouldn't let me do it but today it did
thanks. Now I can send it to the individual that I wanna send it to.

2021-03-13 Thread Kerryann Ifill
Hi all:

There’s a method of setting temporary place markers and marking a place in text
then copying between those 2 points while using jaws. Is there anything
similar using VoiceOver?

Thanks

Re: looking for a new iMac

2021-03-13 Thread Cameron Strife
No M1 iMacs yet although it seems like they are in the pipeline from
what I've read recently on Apple Insider etc.

If you would be interested in a second hand high end 27 inch retina 5k
iMac with Intel I7 quad core 4.0gHz processor, 1 terabyte ssd and 32
gigs of ram etc, I posted mine for sale to the list recently. I'm just
pointing that out in case you didn't see the post to the list. If you
want more info, feel free to message me off list at:
came...@cameronstrife.com

Not that I am aware of.
If Jonathan or someone else on the list knows how to do this with VoiceOver on

Re: Selection

2021-03-13 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
I'm not aware of any such feature in VoiceOver, but some text editors
have it - for example, Emacs and Vim.

Microsoft's Visual Studio Code apparently supports multiple cursors, but
I don't know how accessible this feature is (on the Mac or elsewhere).
