Re: mac OS big sur: notifications

2020-11-23 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Once the notification appears, press vo+command+spacebar to access actions
menu. From there you can view the notification or close it.

Somebody on the list here helpfully suggested this. It used to drive me mad
too.

I signed in to it with no such difficulty. Getting videos to play seems to
require that you disable styles in Safari. This is done via the developer menu.

tab out and tab back into what I was doing. This is wasting my time as the
notification really likes to barge in on what I'm doing and this is annoying me.

Is there a shortcut to get rid of it? I already disabled most notifications via

Anyone have the most efficient method of doing this?

Thanks,

Re: mac OS big sur: repeating ping sound

2020-11-23 Thread Brett Lewis
Hi,
This happened to me this morning.
My MacBook just started pinging every few seconds.
Pressing VO+F1 twice showed that there was a system dialog about sending a
crash report to Apple.
Sending the report resolved the issue.
Just FYI,
Brett

Alternative, you might want to search running processes for an instance
of ping and kill the process id.

The following terminal command may help:

 sudo killall ping

installing Catalina

2020-11-23 Thread Lorie McCloud
I finally downloaded Catalina on my Mac Mini and am planning to install it. is
the internet used for that or since it's been downloaded does it not use the
internet for the install? what's a reasonable amount of time to expect the
install to take? what happens when it's done? in other words, how will I know
when it's done?

thanks.

Re: installing Catalina

2020-11-23 Thread Brad Snyder
1. Internet is not necessary, it is already downloaded. Just make sure the
Installer is in your Applications folder, and you are good to go.

2. Install process should take 45 minutes to an hour. I suggest starting the
install, and then go to bed. When you get up, it will be done.

3. When the install process is complete, VoiceOver will prompt you to login or
whatever your Mac does when you turn it on.

Be sure to do a backup of your important stuff just in case something goes bad.
I’ve done the upgrade process many times, and never had a problem, but better
safe than sorry.

Re: Mac 2 factor verification

2020-11-23 Thread Brad Snyder
The numbers 1 thru 6 are place holders for the code numbers.
When you enter the 6-digit verification code, it is automatically entered into
the 6 fields For the code.
For example, if your code is 456123; the first digit 4, will be entered into
the first space, the second digit 5, will be entered into the second place, and
so forth.
All you have to do is type in the 6-digit code, and the digits are entered into
the appropriate space. You do not need to use arrow keys, the focus will move
to the correct space as you type in the code number.

Re: answering the phone in IOS 14.1

2020-11-23 Thread Brad Snyder
there is a new feature in iOS 14, that shows an incoming call as a notification
banner at the top of the iPhone’s home screen.
To restore the previous behavior for incoming calls, go to:
Settings > Phone > Incoming Calls.
This is a button, which you double-tap, to find the option to restore full
screen for incoming calls.

HTH.
