Re: Designing an accessible website for my Music Studio?

2020-05-07 Thread Nebojsa Tasic

As a backend web developer, I cannot agree with Daniel. Hosters do their
work, but there are developers' work related to security. No hosters
will analyze and improve your code.

I'll try to explain. Wordpress is very big and complex system. There are
always bugs in such systems. Hackers look for bugs and use them to
attack websites. There are many WP websites. When they find a key to
hack one web site they can hack thousands of them. So, they have
interest to work on that. On the other side, developers from WP team
work on fixing bugs and improving the system. That's why I said you to
update WP regularly.

There are various plugins for social media sharing, that's not the problem.

Waw,

I'm not sure how you could do this without the kids knowing they are being

I'm bloody glad in times like this I don't have kids,
I can only imagine how you guys are feeling about this.

I do know that in teams if you are a chat room owner then you have admin rights
and I believe that would let you see what is going on in the room / team

Good luck and hope the kids start behaving.

I am having the exact same problem! I'd love to find an accessible solution
that doesn't involve taking away my boy's laptop, turning on the screen reader,
checking what he's doing, and giving it back to him. He says he's doing work,
which he seems to be when I check most of the time, but, I get weekly messages
from his teacher saying that he's not submitting as much work as he should be.
It's really frustrating.

I’ve seen this done with Microsoft certification tests, where they basically

Hi,

You might wish to look at Chrome Remote Desktop. It’s an extension you can use
with Chrome that may work for you. I’m not sure of how well things will work
from an observation point of view, as most “remote-in” solutions are not
particularly screen reader friendly with respect to reading the others screen
contents.

Re: Endnote

2020-05-07 Thread Ian Harrison
Hi,
are you using the desktop app or the web site. I found the web site to be
terrible due to so many popups etc. If it is the desktop app, this is the
process I used to follow:
1. when I import a reference into endnote with an RIS file; focus reads out the
reference.
2. I then right click; vo, shift m and various context menu options appear.
3. One option is to add the new reference to a group. If you have already
created the group you arrow down to that group and click enter.
4. If you haven’t managed to set up a group in advance there is an option
called new group or something like that.
5. I click on that then move over to the groups sidebar and rename the untitled
group folder there; then I return to the reference and repeat the steps above.

This sounds a bit backwards, but I’ve never worked out how to create a new
group in advance and then find it when adding a new reference; so I just stuck
to this workflow.

Hope this helps and feel free to get back to me if I’ve been unclear or it
doesn’t work for you.

Luck

That’s something I unfortunately can’t afford to invest in right now, and
something needs to be. Done soon sense Hannah’s grades are really low, and she
has a tendency to lie and say she’s. Doing her work, and sense not all lessons
are live, and therefore not auditory, I need to know exactly what’s on her
screen VS what she claims to be doing.

 Hi all,
I just learned the importance of paying attention too what access Apps ask
 for.
I recommended Lazarillo to Paul last week as I found it quite helpful when
we moved into this new neighbourhood a few years ago. But admit I hadn’t
used it for a while and when I opened it again it asked to access my
location via bluetooth too. make it more accurate, or something like that.
I couldn’t quite make the connection in my head between GPS and bluetooth
but I clicked on OK anyway. Then I noticed a huge drop in my battery life
on my phone in the preceding days but isn’t make the connection. I was
sitting there on Sunday trying to work out why my battery was draining so
fast and I even checked my battery health and it was still running at peek
performance. Then it hit me, the only change I made recently was with the
Lazarillo App, so I went into my settings and found the lazarillo app and
checked the settings. Once I turned off the bluetooth access my battery
life was back to normal. So I’m going to pay more attention to apps when
they ask me to give them access and permissions.
 Sorry for the rant,

On iOS, and any and all mention of Remy‘s name, I hear it’s spoken first in
English, and then in a second voice it is spoken in Arabic. So I’m getting an
echo. And that’s a little annoying. It’s got nothing to do with race religion
color creed or anything like that it’s just I’m getting a damn echo and it’s
only with his name and that’s why I’m asking. Comprende?

Re: A Remote Control for my AC and TV, can we?

2020-05-07 Thread Brad Snyder
I would think that the device Anders mentions would work only with a Panasonic
unit.
I would recommend that you look into a WiFi thermostat. There are many models
on the market that will work with a variety of manufactures. I have a
Honeywell ComfortConnect thermostat. It has an iOS app that is very accessible
using VoiceOver. I have had mine for about 6 years. Honeywell has newer
models with even more accessibility, including the ability to access the device
using Alexa and more.

My HVAC guy recommended the Honeywell unit, so I would suggest you talk to your
people and see what they recommend.

Any ideas out there? ps Don’t hate me for it it’s just my personal choice.

Re: Giving Apps access and battery life

2020-05-07 Thread Brad Snyder
I’m not Tim, but the “normal procedure” to shut down an iPhone without a home
button is to hold down the Volume Up button and the Side button at the same
time, until you feel a vibration, then quickly release. Then find the “Slide
to Power Off” button near the top of the screen and double tap with one finger.

Re: Blocking senders on list

2020-05-07 Thread Phil Halton
Thanks Dave, actually I found a setting in the males settings concerning
blocked sender options. You have to tell it to move the blocked message to
trash, otherwise it leaves it in the inbox with a tag on it. I think though
that if a block sender is in a thread, then the whole entire thread gets
trashed. Not sure though and I am going to watch and test for that. It may be
that you have to unthread in order to get this to work for a single sender.

Re: Blocking senders on list

2020-05-07 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

It may also be complicated by the whole “List” configuration aspects of these
sorts of groups. If you look at the eMail that is received, it is not actually
from the sender. It is from MacVisionaries. So, even though you’ve blocked
the sender, the actual eMail is sent from MacVisionaries on behalf of the
sender. Dave’s suggestion would probably be best in that you can use an extra
rule to send the offending messages to the Trash mailbox.

Re: Blocking senders on list

2020-05-07 Thread Phil Halton
Those were my thoughts Tim, but as soon as they change that blocked center
options setting in the mail settings, the particular message disappeared from
the Macvisionaries inbox and went to trash. Although so did the entire thread
it was contained in. So I guess the block sender setting works but it may have
a problem with also taking the thread of messages along with it. I’ll have to
watch and see.

iPhone SE 2nd Generation, Audio Recording Question

2020-05-07 Thread Pete De Vasto
Hi everyone,

I’m very close to biting the bullet and ordering one of the 2nd generation
iPhone SE’s to replace my iPhone 7. I noted with interest that they say when
you record video with the camera app, you get stereo, but most audio apps like
Pocket Recorder won’t handle stereo because of internal limitations. If any of
you actually have the new SE, I was wondering if you get stereo audio if you
use Voice Memos to record. That won’t stop me from getting the phone, I’m just
curious.

Thanks as always,
Pete De Vasto

That's the first I've ever heard of that. Thanks, I'll change my power-off

Re: Endnote

2020-05-07 Thread Julie Rattray
Hello,

So had to update my version of endnote because had upgraded to Catalina - but
having checked what I said earlier following update.

If you go to the library list and interact with it and then bring up the
context menu you have the option to create a group and then you are able to use
your add process as described.

Re: Bluetooth Thermometer?

2020-05-07 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

We have the Body. I just weigh myself, the scale is connected through WiFi, so
it logs my weight into the Cloud and as soon as I open the Health-Mate app the
weight is visible. I’ve set it so that the Health app can read from
Health-Mate and that the Health-Mate app can write weight data to the Apple
Health app, so much of the time I do my checking in the Apple Health app itself.

Re: Giving Apps access and battery life

2020-05-07 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,
On my SE 2 iPhone, when I press volume up and the right side button, I get a
dialog with three items:
1. Power Off
2. Medical ID
3. Emergency SOS

The focus started on the power off button. I expect the same happens with the
iPhone 10 and 11 systems.

Re: A Cretical Hard disc problem, can i fix it?

2020-05-07 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

If you’re getting block or sector errors, then there is a physical problem with
the hardware of the disk. Basically, once this happens, the reliability of
your data on that device is sketchy at best. I guess you could try to create a
partition where that block is ignored, but I still would not trust the
integrity of the disk for use of anything important.

Sorry.

Yes, that's the same screen I get on my iPhone X without a home button.

Hello,
On my SE 2 iPhone, when I press volume up and the right side button, I get a

1. Power Off

The focus started on the power off button. I expect the same happens with the
iPhone 10 and 11 systems.

Hi,

Yes, that’s the same screen I get on my XS and my wife’s XR. I have had it on
occasion though focus on the Emergency SOS button instead of the Power Off
button. I usually suggest that people flick left until they hit the wall or
hear “Power Off” before double-tapping. Don’t need to call emergency services
by accident.

Sharing a Mac between a blind user and a sighted user

2020-05-07 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
Is it possible to set up a Mac with 2 accounts, one for a blind user who needs
VoiceOver always on and the other for a sighted user who wants VoiceOver always
off.
Presumably VoiceOver would need to be on at logon time so that the blind user
could enter the correct user name. If the blind user found that the sighted
user was logged on could they do command+shift+q to log them off and get to the
speaking logon screen? Do any listers share a Mac between sighted and blind
users?
Many thanks for any tips.
Best wishes and keep well … Paul Hopewell

Re: Sharing a Mac between a blind user and a sighted user

2020-05-07 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Yes, this is very easily done. You’d just need to go into System Preferences,
Users & Groups and set up the additional account. The additional account can
be an Administrator or a Standard user. Each user has access to all the
applications, but has their own documents and data as well as being able to
sign in with their own Apple ID if they wish. All VoiceOver settings and
application preferences are unique to each user. Yes, you can press
cmd-option-shift-q to log out of the other user if they are logged in, but if
they have files open with unsaved changes, the keyboard command will bring up
“Are You Sure” ddialogs and probable save dialogs. You are, though, able to
turn VO on if that user is logged in, save any files etc, turn VO off, then use
the cmd-option-shift-q command to log out and bring yourself to the Login
screen.

One snag that might arise would be due to security settings. If the computer
is set to lock the screen after a specific length of time, this might be
triggered and it would then bring up the authentication window where the
currently logged inn user is required to enter their password. You would then
need to either enter their password before you’d be able to log them out, or
force shutdown the Mac. The forced shutdown can be done, but certainly is not
the best way of doing things. It would be best to always log out after you’re
done, or turn off that part of the security.

I’ll have to have a look later and see what is around. So far I’m getting my

 Hi all,
I just learned the importance of paying attention too what access Apps ask

Hi Ramy,

On both the Mac and iPhone, make sure that date and time is correct.

Now on iPhone navigate to Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Select Gmail >
Select Account (at the top) > Advanced > Under "Incoming Settings" Turn
OFF "Use SSL" and then Turn it back ON.

Also, clear the browser history of your safari browser on Mac and log in to
Google Account and from Security turn On "less secured app access".

This will sort the issue that you're currently facing.

Hope this helps

RE: Remoting into a Crome book via the Mac.

2020-05-07 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Jessica,

Yeah difficult one.

I’d contact the teacher and get a list of what is meant to be getting worked on
and if they can provide access to the same services that your daughter is using
and that way you can see what work is there and question her on what she is
working on so that you know what the work load is and type of work as well.

Good luck.

Is it going to far to set up a web cam with mic so you can watch / hear what
the kids are doing while studying?

I’ve seen this done with Microsoft certification tests, where they basically
video watch you while your sitting the online exam,

This was a few years ago now but it was a serviceable option at the time.

Hi,

You might wish to look at Chrome Remote Desktop. It’s an extension you can use
with Chrome that may work for you. I’m not sure of how well things will work
from an observation point of view, as most “remote-in” solutions are not
particularly screen reader friendly with respect to reading the others screen
contents.

Later…

I never thought I’d be needing to do this, however, I’ve been getting messages
from Hannah’s teacher stating that she’s not turning in work/checking in on
Microsoft Teams. I’ve finally just made her. Come out of. Her room to do her
work, but would like to know how I can view exactly what’s up on her. Screen,
and know that she’s not just sitting their listening to music with her
headphones on, and unfortunately, constantly hovering over her to make sure
she’s doing it isn’t always going to be an option, for multiple reasons, one of
them being, that not all of her lessons are auditory. Has anyone ever done
this, and if so, what’s involved in getting it set up?
