Re: Logitech K380 Multi-Device Bluetooth Keyboard

2020-01-23 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
I’ve been very happy with this keyboard. On the left side of the keyboard
towards the top left corner, there’s a round button that you slide up to turn
it on. Slide it down once you’ve finished using it to turn it off. Pairing it
with 3 different devices was relatively easy. Once you pair it, you just press
the relevant function button to switch between the devices paired. I’ve
assigned function1 button to Android, function2 to Apple TV and function3 to
iPhone. To start pairing, put the device you want to pair it with in discovery
mode in bluetooth settings and then press one of the 3 function buttons and
hold it for a few seconds to start pairing. Once you pair all the devices, yu
just press a corresponding function button briefly to indicate which device you
wish to use it with.

Hope this helps

RE: Airpods

2020-01-23 Thread Simon A Fogarty
HI David,

Yes the phone price is split over the contract period and you pay the phone
amount and contract monthly cost
That’s what I did when I got my 11 pro max,

The 10 dollars per month to update wasn’t available when I got my phone but
may be I should look at it now,

Would be worth the cost.

I was recently looking at NZ mobile providers. Two Degrees now offers a
purchase plan where they split the cost of the new phone across the life of the
contract, and if one adds $10 per month, one can upgrade the phone after 12
months by exchanging the current handset for the new model.
Here in Australia, Telstra does this, and they even divide the cost of
accessories, such as AirPods, in to the same payment plan across the life of
the contract. I go for the two year contract so I can upgrade my phone every 12
months.

Hi!
Do i have to have bluetooth on on my Iphone when i use the Apple Watch.
It seems that the watch app has problems finding the watch when i don’t have
bluetooth or wifi on.
BUt this may be due to that the watch isn’t updated yet to the latest version.
Will do that when charging for tonight.

Subject: Re: recursive appointments

Hi,

I don't believe that you can be that granular in your appointment creation.
There are facilities within the Calendar app on the Mac whereby you can do the
first part of your request. That is, you can create an event, that is every
second year, in specific months such as Jan, Feb and Sep, on the third Monday.
The limitation arises with respect to multiple days, and/or skipping weeks. My
guess is that you would need to create multiple events for the different days.
I don't believe that Google would be any better. Maybe an Exchange calendar
could do it, but I'm sceptical. To see all the possibilities within your Mac's
Calendar app, choose "custom" under the "Repeat" pop-up menu when creating
events.

HTH.

Yeah it’s great,

Function key plus f1 or f2 or f3 to switch between devices.

Nice and light and very easy to use, comfortable as well.

There is also another one I think the K840 may be,
That has a slot to put an ipad in to hold it,
And a little wheel on the left hand side that you can change between 3 settings
which change to each of the devices.

Gentlemen, Thank You Very Much! That does help and is most reassuring. I'm
getting this keyboard sight unseen and it is quite different from the MS ones I
have been using for years so I appreciate hearing how it works and about how it
feels to use. I understand the keys are round and I've never seen a keyboard
with round keys, however, since neither of you mention them I presume they
don't effect typing? The simplicity of set up and multiple device usage is
also great to have confirmed. I will feel much more comfortable ordering it.

Thank you again,
Joy

Hi!
Ok, i am mostly pleased with the new applewatch.
Though there are some annoyances.
First of all when i got a call today i tried to answer that but couldn’t.
It seems i have forgotten how to do that since my last time with the apple
watch.
Secondly, sometimes when moving with my finger around the screen the
screenlock kicks in anyway so i have to press the crown or the homebutton to
wake it up again.
It happend last when i checked The busses.
All help is appreciated.

Just to clarify, TDSR is sufficiently reliable to do real work in the
Mac terminal? I'm assuming one silences VO in preference to TDSR while in
the Terminal? I presume there's a way to automate that?

I do agree on the IRSSI recommendation. It's a thoroughly powerful and
capable IRC client. It takes some configuration to make it blind
friendly, but it works very well indeed. I use it daily on Linux as part
of my W3C work.

The weakness on Mac has always been VO, imo.

Re: IRC client for either macOS or iOS

2020-01-23 Thread 'Devin Prater' via MacVisionaries
Hey, can you share what to configure to make IRSSI more blind friendly? I don’t
know much about using it, sadly, just how to connect to server and join rooms
and quit, lol. With TDSR, yes, turn off VoiceOver, with Command + F5 on
non-Touchbar Macs, and Command + Tripple Press Touch ID on Macs with the
Touchbard.

Re: IRC client for either macOS or iOS

2020-01-23 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Yeah, let me see what I can dig up on that. It's been so long since I've
done it for myself, but I obviously have my config file.

Basically, as memory serves, you want to:

* Turn off the running clock -- and especially the to the second
* time stamping of each line of text.

* Get the entire IRC channel on one screen and avoid split screen
* presentations. This is the terminal, after all.

* Move status updates to the bottom line, then auto silence those.

I think those are the basics. Let me see what I can find that might be
more specifically helpful.

Best,

Janina

Re: IRC client for either macOS or iOS

2020-01-23 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
OK, I have two links for you ...

1.) Doing a quick Google search found the following page that seems
to be accurate, even though it thinks everyone in the world is using
JAWS:

2.) I trimmed out a lot of personal data from my irssi config and
posted it on line for you here:

https://rednote.net/irssi_example_config

Please note this is from my woring ~/.irssi/config file. However, it's
been put together over many years. There are undoubtedly things there
that don't matter. Mostly likely there are likely redundancies. I make
no claim for this being a clean file, just that it represents the blind
friendly configurations important to making irssi work with a screen
reader--at least for me.

Best,

Janina

Re: How do I share an EPUB file in books with someone?

2020-01-23 Thread 'Sabahattin Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
Hi Tim,

Thanks so much for trying, but I’m afraid it’s just no go for me. I’ve tried
everything now, I’m sure. I even checked the size and positioning of the
windows and ensured Books and Finder each had a half to themselves. But
whatever I do, I just can’t make Books transfer books—even one book—in list
view. It works fine in the grid view, but not in the list view.

If I have any better luck, or inspiration, or anything, I’ll be sure to let the
list know. But for now it’s just back to the half-hearted approach of backing
up internal folders. If you have further suggestions, I’m eager to hear.

Cheers,
Sabahattin

Hi Sabahattin,

When you're grabbing the book from within the Books app, do you mouse-down on
the title, or some other portion of the columnar information?

Hi,

Thanks for the review.

Can you describe what these three hardware buttons do?

I would also be interested if anyone has configured the printer under Windows.

Thanks,

Re: Applewatch annoyance.

2020-01-23 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi Anders,

To answer a call on your Apple Watch, you need to wake it up then do a
two-finger double-tap. The ringing does not actually wake it up. So the first
action is dependent on your wake settings. If you have "Tap to Wake" enabled,
just do a single firm tap on the watch face, then do the two-finger double-tap.
Sometimes, the watch will actually wake with the "Answer" button having focus,
but I haven't found this always to be the case, so the two-finger double-tap is
my best recommendation. Alternatively, you could press the digital crown or
the side button to wake your watch then do the two-finger double-tap. The
Two-finger double-tap will also end the call if you wish.

hth.

It seems i have forgotten how to do that since my last time with the apple

Secondly, sometimes when moving with my finger around the screen the

It happend last when i checked The busses.

Hi Tim,

I usually tried using the leftmost column, which is usually empty. However I
have also tried (and just tried again) with the title, author and category
columns. Those appear sometimes to work like edit boxes, in that they are
announced as such once the mouse is clicked and held with VO-Cmd-Shift-Space.
None of them worked, unfortunately.

or left again and find the button labeled with the phone number, this should
be straight after the done button, open the phone number button and swipe to
the right until you find the block caller button.
Hope this helps.

this and the annoying texts stopped.
