Re: How to Get TextEdit to Display "Documents" Folder when Opening

2019-07-28 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Craig,

As far as I know, you can’t do this. It did it when iCloud Drive was in use
because the Documents folder was in iCloud Drive, ready to be shared with other
devices. However, in the File menu, you can find Recents which will offer you
the documents you’ve been working on lately.
Cheers,

Anne

Re: New subscriber with a question about voiceover and safari

2019-07-28 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Greg,

In Safari, there are several ways of selecting and copying text.
Always interact with web content to use the VO keys.
You can select text by pressing VO-Return to start selecting, navigate right
using the VO keys, then press VO-Return to stop selecting and copy with Cmd-c.
In the VO Utility, make sure that Lines are included in the Rotor. In Safari,
using Quick Nav, select Lines and use Shift-Down Arrow to select text.
If all else fails, you still have the command Copy the last phrase to the
clipboard (VO-Shift-c).
Cheers,

Anne

Using dictionary.app with voiceover

2019-07-28 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Has anybody had any luck using dictionary.app with Voiceover? I have several
dictionaries checked in the preferences but when I type in a word in search box
I get no results in the web area where results should show up. Am I doing
something wrong? It’s really irritating.

Andrew

Re: Using dictionary.app with voiceover

2019-07-28 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey Andrew,
I’ve had the same issue. The workaround that I found is to type the word
omitting the last letter of the word, and then scroll into it in the search
table, and then jumping to the web area and you should find the definition.
It’s crucial that you do not type the word and it’s entirety for this to work.

All best,
Ibraheem

RE: Avast Security Blocking E-Mail - I Think

2019-07-28 Thread Simon Fogarty
If you had a windows machine I’d say yes I agree however as it is a mac I think
that you’ll be fine.

For the amount of time you will remove it to test if it’s the issue then you
shouldn’t have an issue.

Removing the Avast app had occurred to me, but I am reluctant to leave my Mac
vulnerable to network mischief.

Re: How to Get TextEdit to Display "Documents" Folder when Opening

2019-07-28 Thread Craig Werner
Hello, Anne.

I'll bet I got so accustomed to the way TextEdit behaved with iCloud Drive
on that I quite forgot how it behaved with this function disabled. Funny
how recent memories can take over and make one think it was ever so. I'm
now in tune with not seeing all the shared files, and all is well.
