iPad not connecting with BT keyboard

2019-03-15 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

I've been having a problem with my iPad not connecting with my BT keyboard. I
pair them, everything seems fine, but then the next time I go to connect them,
they don't connect, and I have to re-pair them. At this point, I'm repairing
every time I want to use them. Has anyone experienced this? Any thought about
what could cause it? I thought the BT keyboard was supposed to connect
automatically when the iPad came on, is that wrong?
TIA,
Donna

2019-03-15 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi again,

Just one follow-up comment. This seems to be related to turning off the
keyboard. It seems that if I leave the keyboard powered on, the pairing holds.
But once I turn it off, the pairing is lost. Appreciate any help.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Test Drive an Orbits Reader Display Anyone? I Don't think so

2019-03-15 Thread alia robinson
I am baffled at this device. they never have enough when you order you have to
wait months. those of us with macs are told to suck it up, and buy a cheap
windows computer to update our devices! I seriously cannot believe that was
their advice, or go to the library. so I am supposed to get a sighted friend to
drive me, and when I called the library said they wouldn’t allow me to download
software on their machines to update it anyway, so I either have to find a
friend to update, buy a computer with windows, or go without. the company even
said we can’t do updates that’s up to you, but if you have a mac too bad. it’s
supposed to be a device for all, so much for that. Okay, rant over!

can print that, I had to do it with a legal matter with a guy who is

Re: Printing Text Message

2019-03-15 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Hmmm. sounds like a refresh is needed. From the iPhone, go into Settings,
then your name. If you swipe past all the crap until you get to the list of
devices registered to your Apple ID. See if there's two instances of your Mac
there. If so, remove them both. When your Mac is reconnected to the Internet,
it will just re-add itself. Hopefully, this fixes the duplication

apple watch heart rate

2019-03-15 Thread John Weir
I am Vickie Weir, I originally spent four years during the development
of Voice over testing voice over for Apple with a group of about 20 of
us.  Any way, I am interested in using the apple watch 4  to monitor my
pulse rate while I exercise.  I am totally blind.   I would like the
watch to say, on Bluetooth, to my ear phone what the heart rate is, on a
constant basis, as I exercise.  I am 52 years old and have to keep it
under certain limits.

Have any of you used it this way, I know that the watch can measure the
heart rate, but since I cant see I need to hear the result.  Can siri be
used? and I cant be searching all over the watch while exercising.

Thanks for any help I can get.  Vickie

Well, you've pretty much settled the question for me.

Even though I have several Windows computers, an Orbit Reader 20 is definitely
not in my future. To me, customer service/customer support is so very
important.

Among other goals, I was interested in test driving a few Braille displays for
use with my iOS devices.

Imagine my surprise when I arrived at the A.P.H. booth and discovered that they
had no Orbit Reader 20s on hand for visitors to explore. While I was there, 2
other people walked up and asked about the Orbit Reader 20 and were equally
disappointed at the lack of a demo model.

I did, however, get a look at an entire host of other BRaile displays, from
other companies, including the latest version of the Focus 40. Now, that, is a
beautiful device.

Regardless, I was sorely disappointed at not having an opportunity to test
drive the Orbit Reader 20 Braille display.

And the beat goes on,

Mark

RE: Test Drive an Orbits Reader Display Anyone? I Don't think so

2019-03-15 Thread M. Taylor
Hello E.T.,

To be honest, I did not determine the generation name of the display model of
the Focus. I simply told them that I wanted to take a look at the most recent
version of the Focus 40.

I did not see any HandyTech displays but, then again, I did not look for any
HandyTech products.

While I went to virtually all of the blindness related booths, Humanware, Hims,
and Freedom Scientific were the vendors to which I paid the most attention.

RE: USB dvd drives?

2019-03-15 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Matt,

It's a personal choice.

What I can tell you is that, recently, when attempting to rip a particularly
troublesome DVD, the only USB drive that would get the job done was my Apple
USB DVD Super Drive.

I tried three other modern USB DVD devices and all reported errors.

Just saying ...

Re: Test Drive an Orbits Reader Display Anyone? I Don't think so

2019-03-15 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries
I had my fingers on a HandyTech display for a few minutes and would
have liked to have kept it. It had an ergonomic display, not flat.

The Hims displays I have used developed many weak cells. At $70 per
cell its gamble how many out of 40 would be replaced. The Focus 5th I
have is just a few months old and has some cells that are problematic
right now. Not to mention the lack of development. One update in almost
a year. Other than that, its decent. Very easy to connect to any one of
5 devices. Sometimes too easy when you don't want a connection.

Re: Test Drive an Orbits Reader Display Anyone? I Don't think so

2019-03-15 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries
I am not sure but can probably find out. Being that is is twice as
expensive as other displays (the Active Braille may be the one I saw and
would like to get that one), I was afraid to get too excited as the
program I was in might balk and ultimately they did.

The Focus 5th will connect if I turn the Mac on or unlock my phone,
its that good. And its just as easy to disconnect it too or switch to
another device.

gamble how many out of 40 would be replaced. The Focus 5th I have is just a
few months old and has some cells that are problematic right now. Not to

its decent. Very easy to connect to any one of 5 devices. Sometimes too easy

Was this a Focus 5th or a new version? I like the 5th but its not being
developed enough, it has some minor annoyances.
Were there any displays from HandyTech?

RE: more on bt keyboard problem

2019-03-15 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Donna,

I apologize that my reply made your current keyboard issue seem merely
academic. Of course it is frustrating and I am sorry that it has not performed
as you expected.

Of course you should do what will make you feel best but I would tentatively
suggest that you visit an Apple Store and see what kind of keyboard-related
solutions they have in stock for your particular device.

Just a suggestion.

Your Brother on the Journey,

Mark
