Re: orbit reader and mac?

2018-10-22 Thread David Chittenden
Hi Eric,

The BliTab, which has not been released and is quite possibly vaperware, is
using micro-fluidics for driving the dots. This looks like the lowest cost
option to date, especially for half-page or full-page displays.

I would avoid the Orbit technology solution. It is quite noisy, and they still
have production issues after millions of dollars of investment and several
years.

Dot Corp (Dot Watch) and BrailleMe are both using variants on electro-megnetic
strips with decent success. The primary negative comments I read are around the
dots requiring significantly less pressure or they collapse. Applying too much
pressure is quite common amongst the blind.

Kind regards,

David Chittenden, MSc, MRCAA

Re: orbit reader and mac?

2018-10-22 Thread Eric Oyen
Hmmm.
Ok, so Orbit might be out. I was thinking of an electro strip that has surface
inlayed electrodes and would be made of either a hard plastic or glass. This
would be similar to having an etched circuit board (2 sided) where the
electrodes would be plated on and connected via thru-holes to the backplane.
This would certainly make things a bit more robust. Another idea just now, the
use of an older tech 7 segment display driver chip setup in such a way to be
able to turn on and off dots as needed. This would also prevent ground loop
issues between cell dots. Also, the current would not be DC (as such) but
either pulsed DC (at high frequencies) or AC (also at high frequencies). This
would make each dot easier to read and there wouldn’t be the constant charge
sitting on the dots.

I guess those 3 years at Devry back in the mid 1980’s did me some good.

Oh, and because the RaspberryPi has a 40 pin I/O strip, that can be used with
other background programs to power the display and provide the needed data to
the display itself.

Btw, you see some of my thought processes at work here. :)

Anyway, let me know about any ideas, thoughts etc. on this. Who knows, if I get
it into a kickstarter, your name can be attached as one of the secondary
designers. :)

We have a site over here in NZ called Mega UpLoad,

It gives you 50GB for free,

Might be worth a start looking at something like that.

Ouch. That sucks and if your drive is that full, getting an online backup
solution that is cheap won’t be easy. However, you might want to check out
these guys (note, the site where you sign up would be in Chinese, but the
procedure is quite detailed):
http://www.1mtb.com/how-to-get-36-tb-free-cloud-storage-from-qihoo-360-yunpan-cloud-drive/

If you are able to go through the whole thing, then you have 36 TB of free
online storage. I just wish they had a full English website.

Also, Amazon offers unlimited storage for about $5 per month for prime members.
They mean unlimited too.

So, you could spend a little cash and have a reasonably accessible interface or
go free and hope you can plow through the Chinese interface.

Hi,

Actually, Launch Daemons are only in the main Library folder, not in the user
specific one. Open Macintosh HD, Library and find Launch Daemons in there.
You'll find a Launch Agents in there as well. I'd check in both Launch Agents
and Launch Daemons in both locations for safety.

Its $5.00 for unlimited storage a month.

If you are able to go through the whole thing, then you have 36 TB of free
online storage. I just wish they had a full English website.

Also, Amazon offers unlimited storage for about $5 per month for prime members.
They mean unlimited too.

So, you could spend a little cash and have a reasonably accessible interface or
go free and hope you can plow through the Chinese interface.

and hit option to start installing from my flash drive. is this write. or do i
have another alternative to be a accessible?
and, what about booting after installing, how will i tell the mac to boot from
the new Mavericks not from Sierra?

Re: Inaccessible experience purchasing an iPhone through T-Mobile

2018-10-22 Thread Mika Pyyhkala
I think with DocuSign you have two options:
Option 1 to draw your signature; or
Option 2 to type your name.

So if option 2 was aavailable, that should be accessible. I have
signed documents with DocuSign in this way in the past. However, each
DocuSign client may be able to configure their service slightly
differently.

One other option that comes to mind is you can use AIRA with Team
Viewer, to have an AIRA agent perform actions on your behalf on your
computer.

I have had to have them sign documents for me in systems other than
DocuSign, and also complete any other number of tasks on the web that
may not be accessible.

Also if you are a Jaws customer, and having trouble with a web form,
you can obtain the AIRA minutes without taking them out of your plan
by using the VFO promotional offer.

I am not certain if you are an AIRA guest if you can use specifically
the VFO offer but you are able to use some of the offers even if you
are a nonsubscribing Aira guest.

Best,
Mika

Re: Question about GarageBand and other music editing software

2018-10-22 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Steve,

If you’re looking for more instruments that you can use in Garage Band, I would
recommend looking at Logic Pro X from Apple.

You can find this in the app store and it is extremely accessible right out of
the box. It does take a bit of a learning curve though. However, if you are
already using Garage Band, then you should have no trouble at all learning
Logic since it is based on the same paradigm.

The app costs $199.99 last time I checked and it comes with about 70 GB of
instruments you can use both in Logic or in Garage Band.

Logic is quite a bit more sophisticated than GB and is an industry standard
recording package just like ProTools.

The Exception being that its sound libraries are interchangeable with Garage
Band as I mentioned. Whereas the stock libraries which come with ProTools are
not useable in Garage Band.

So you could purchase Logic now and use its libraries in Garage Band and
venture into learning Logic Pro X as you go.

Ultimately, if you wish to do serious recording, you will want to eventually
use Logic or ProTools. Both are excellent apps.

Hope this helps and please have a great day!

Cheers!

Cara

Re: Making Mavericks system for my friend

2018-10-22 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

If it has Sierra on it, I have a few questions.

1. Why does your friend need Mavericks?

2. How old of a Mac is this? I ask this because if the Mac is new enough that
it came with something newer than Mavericks originally installed, then you
cannot install Mavericks on it. Any Mac that is a late 2014 or newer will not
accept Mavericks.

3. If it is a model that accepts Mavericks, you cannot install it on top of
Sierra. You either need to create a second partition where you can install
Mavericks or wipe the drive clean of Sierra and install Mavericks from scratch
on to the Mac. If you do have two partitions, you can easily choose which one
you wish to start from within the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.

Re: Making Mavericks system for my friend

2018-10-22 Thread Ramy Moustafa
Hi Tim:
His mac is 2010 model.
Do not know why he needs this version, but anyway, he bought a new HD,
I will follow these steps and correct me if am wrong.
1- I downloaded the Mavericks already.
2- I will use a flash drive and make it bootable by installing the Mavericks on
it via terminal.
3- will restart my mac,
4- will press Option while booting,
do not know the other steps to install Mavericks on his new Hd.
Is there a way to do this?

Re: Making Mavericks system for my friend

2018-10-22 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

You need to use the GUID Partition Map on the drive if you want it to be
bootable by a Mac. Using Master Boot Record or the older version of the Apple
Partition Map protocol will make the drive not bootable. Once you have the
installer made, you can use System Preferences, Startup Disk to start from any
bootable volume. This method is accessible whereas the Option key method is
not.

I apologize if my responses are delayed, as I'm sitting in an airport right now
and will soon be in the air where I will not have Internet access at all.

2018-10-22 Thread jeff `greene
Hi Ramy,
I wouldn't do this, especially if your drives are the spinning kind.
John and Dave on the mac geek gab podcast talked about this a few
shows ago, and people were loosing everything on their drives after
conversion. Apfs is fine for solid-state drives.
Hope this helps! Jeff

I purchased, or I should say I pre-ordered, an iPhone XR today through
T-Mobile. I first tried on the website, but it kept saying it was having
problems loading and I should retry. So I ended up calling my “team of
experts“ on my current T-Mobile phone. The Customer Service from T-Mobile
was very good. The woman got my order and sent me an email with a link
that I had to use in order to electronically sign the document. They use a
service called Doc you sign. And the very last thing you have to do with
that service before you submit the order is to draw your initials or write
your name in a box on the page. Naturally, voiceover does not see this
box, so this process is not accessible. The customer service person at
T-Mobile was apparently on familiar with this process, as she had really
no knowledge of this in accessible box. When my husband got home tonight,
he did the signing. When I am curious about is whether anyone has found a
way around this ridiculous in accessible feature. It seems to me I’ve
purchased an iPhone a couple of years ago from T-Mobile using the same
process, only I don’t think it was doc you sign. Or if it was, I didn’t
have that stupid box. I wonder how others did with their online purchases
 through carriers.

I have a friend who has just changed his email address. He changed ISPs. So the
first part of his address remains the same, but of course he has a new provider

RE: Making Mavericks system for my friend

2018-10-22 Thread Simon Fogarty
Everything is correct up to the restart mac,
You need to shut your machine down and then restart with Option key held down.

Then locate the mavericks installer USB flash drive and enter on that one,

Ensure the new HD is formatted as a Mac OSX extended
And as aGUID under the disk utilities

Then once the drive is partitioned / formatted correctly
Start the installation.

However as Tim said,

Why if the previous drive is running sierra are you having him go back to
mavericks?

2018-10-22 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Ramy,

No you neeed to create an installation USB Flash Drive,

Which will have the Mavericks installation media on.

Then you start the mac you wish the os to be installed to on to the USB Flash
drive.

Then from that you follow the installation instructions.

Hi all:

My friend just bought a disktop mac, and it has Sierra on it.
He needs to install Mavericks, so I got it from the appstore,
and i got my Flash drive, will gona format it and extract the installer on it.
We will install Mavericks on a new SSD, so, i read that i will make a restart
and hit option to start installing from my flash drive. is this write. or do i
have another alternative to be a accessible?
and, what about booting after installing, how will i tell the mac to boot from
the new Mavericks not from Sierra?

thanks in advance
