Yes this is correct if you wish to turn accessibility features on and or off,

Starting the utilities is not done with this key press.

Crossposted: Issue with installing FLogic and VOCR solved

2017-08-30 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi good people and sorry for the cross posting, but i thought i’d say this so
everyone on the lists where i posted my question can hear it.
The issue with installing FLogic and VOCR macros are now solved. It turned out
to be a both easy and not obvious thing. I had had the check box for letting VO
be controled by Apple script enabled all the time and could not fathom why the
macros didn’t install. Turned out that i had to uncheck and then check the box
for allowing VO to be controled by Apple script again because the Mac i’m
working at hadn’t accepted, for lack of a better word, the setting. So if you
have enabled the check box for allowing Voiceover to be controled by apple
scripts on a Mac you’ve owned earlier and then change machines but keep the VO
settings, make certain you uncheck and then check the box for allowing VO to be
controled by Apple scripts again. Upon this you will get a prompt for your
account password, fill it in and ok the dialog and you should be good to go.
Thanks all for the help in this matter.
/Krister

3D audio experience podcast 6: The comedy club now available

2017-08-30 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hi All,

Here’s I the coding functer again, with a new exciting podcast on making your
own 3D audio experience.

This one is simulating a blind comedy show and shows some more advanced
concepts on audio manipulation and states.

The article is below:

https://www.oseyeris.com/post/3d-game-podcast-6-blind-comedy-club

And here is the direct youtube link:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTWqp6-7XkjWGHnXb03gfylmPz7UPXYH4

Again, you can find the demo project in the blog link, and customise it to your
liking to better understand how it all works.

For those who have requested it, I’ve placed the demo sound at the beginning of
the podcast, so you can skip the tutorial part altogether and go straight for
the files.

Enjoy, and have a great week y’all

Re: transferring and downloading and attaching with a memory stick on Mac

2017-08-30 Thread 'Catherine Turner' via MacVisionaries
Hi Reggie,

Hm I don't know why that would be that they are named differently
on the Mac. Perhaps next you could just try creating a folder on that
stick from the Mac and also save a file onto it just to make sure the
stick is working properly with the Mac. As you said you're beginning
with this I'll give step-by-step instructions as to how I would do
this. Doubtless there are lots of different ways of doing things so
you might get different instructions from someone else but this is
what I would do.

Re: Face it: Every new Apple technology is a disaster

2017-08-30 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I may be misreading things somewhat, but I find this article to have some
tongue-in-cheek factor to it. It references all the hype and scare tactics out
there when past features were implemented, and did the bad things really come
to pass? As Scott says, don't be naive and believe that nothing can happen,
but also don't jump on the bandwagon freaking out at things that have likely
been considered in a very detailed manner by Apple developers.

my hands scanned in 3D and sent to the federal reserve for a background check.
So the idea that some biometrics of mine exist out there in various clouds

nonsense out there but then there are some real conspiracies to be careful of
so there you go. Great article, keep em coming.

Re: Turning on VO Prefs on a Mac with a touch bar?

2017-08-30 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello Donna,

Does sound a bit convoluted. You can always create a keyboard commander to
do this either option o, option p or option 8 would make sense to me.

So, bring up VO Utility (vo-H (twice) and then type util )

Move to commanders command-8
Select the keyboard tab
Press the Add button.
type the shortcut you want to use
Hit tab and find in the "General Menu" Open VoiceOver Utility.
Close Voice Over Utility

Test things out.

Best Wishes,

Jonathan

Re: Turning on VO Prefs on a Mac with a touch bar?

2017-08-30 Thread Alex Hall
To open the VO Utility on a Touch Bar Mac, simply press vo-fn-8. No need to
mess with the Bar at all; in this case, as with most VO commands, adding the
function key to a regular number will work as though you'd pressed the f key of
the same number. Speak window title, for instance, is vo-fn-2.

2017-08-30 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Well, nobody answered the original question, yes there are other ways to
get to the dock, but there is such a thing as finger memory.

To correct this problem usually you only need to type control-F1. If this
happens to you quite a bit, you can also disable the control-F1
functionality.

Re: Fasten App on iOS - IOS VoiceOver Focus Stuck in the Status Bar or "return to search"

2017-08-30 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Usually when I have encountered this type of behavior there is a modal
dialog box on screen, and unless you touch within that dialog there will
be no response. I most often see this in the MoveIt app which occasionally
puts up a dialog asking me to recommend or rate the app. Sometimes I can
find just the place to click and other times switching out of the app and
back in works.

Is this ride sharing service availablein DC too?

Re: how to fix control+F3 so it opens the dock again

2017-08-30 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Jonathan,

I have reassigned Ctrl-F1 to speak selected text so that I can’t turn off
keyboard access accidentally. I recommend this move to all my VoiceOver
students, too.
Here in France, with the French keyboard layout, we have to do quite a bit of
messing about with keyboad shortcuts to avoid conflicts.
Cheers,

Anne

Hi Raymond,

Good to hear your problem is solved. I was gonna write you an other
solution/possibility. That is, when using control+f1 you disable these
shortcuts for dock and Apple menu as well. When using control+f1 again, they
will start working again. Strangely I have no idea what this option is called
or officially do.

Well, I don’t know what happened to my message, but thank you so much

had to do is grow down further through the files after opening the stick and I

Looking for a Spanish/English dictionary app for my iPhone

2017-08-30 Thread Michael Busboom
Hello everyone,

I regularly use a very good English/German dictionary app for my iPhone and am
wondering if there is a good Spanish/English dictionary app that is accessible
and thorough.

If there isn’t an app, is there a good web-based alternative that I could use?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Subject: Looking for a Spanish/English dictionary app for my iPhone

Hello everyone,

I regularly use a very good English/German dictionary app for my iPhone and am
wondering if there is a good Spanish/English dictionary app that is accessible
and thorough.

If there isn’t an app, is there a good web-based alternative that I could use?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Re: Turning on VO Prefs on a Mac with a touch bar?

2017-08-30 Thread Donna Goodin
Thanks all for your responses. I have to agree with Alex. The suggestion that
he and Anne made seems to me to be by far the easiest to implement. John, yes a
keyboard commander command would also be an option, but using the number keys
works pretty well.
Cheers,
Donna

Well, neither thing worked. I sent my UEB as a keyword document. Is there a way

Downloaded a book from internet. Copied from the download folder and pasted

You know the Mods really need to get these tag lines under control. I don’t
know why I have to read this religious garbage on a technical list just by
opening the wrong message and the ratio of message content to religious bull
crap is totally out of whack. How can you have a one line response and a huge
run on garbage rant about some fictional stuffed shirt sitting on a cloud
commenting on a history channel show that’s equally off topic. A rule should
be set up that rejects any email with more than a 1 line tag line. In this
case there was 2 lines of content and 6 lines of what comes out of the back of
a cow and it ain’t milk kids.

Oh thanks David, as always the consumate critic. I’ve had a broad spectrum of
positive criticism and yours has hit the sweet spot of the guy from radio who
can give a few pointers on jokes. We just recorded an amateur reading blind

However, If you compile the demo and play it on a surround system, you’d

But I dare say you don’t code, so this won’t be of help to neither of us :)

OK. Will find out all of this when we find out, which is when Apple decides to
release the phone. I highly doubt the face recognition is going to be based on
pictures, it will most likely be infrared which will be easier for people who
can’t see it.

I don't know why the braillenote wouldn't see a ueb document. If you
wanted to try converting it to the bn's own braille format you could
go into file manager/translation.

Face it: Every new Apple technology is a disaster
Apple is expected to release a new technology next month so you know
 what
that means: it's time to worry about how bad it will be.
Writing for Mashable, Jack Morse says if you're not afraid, you will be.
 You
 will be.
That is, of course, a reference to a line the popular movie series Star
 Trek. Don't @ me.
"Facial recognition tech is taking over smartphones. Here's why you
 should
be worried." (Tip o' the antlers to Tibor Csapo.)
There are few things more personal than a face.
A bespoke granite carving of a beloved pet thrown through the plate
 glass
window of your summer house. A loved one who can recite your genome
 from
memory. An H-shaped pair of coffins so you and your spouse can hold
 hands
for all eternity. Your groin. That's about it.
Every wrinkle, blemish, and freckle combine to tell a person's story.
That mole that looks cancerous. The vertical scar running over your left
 eye
which is a glassy white and a memento of that knife fight in Singapore
 in
1936. Your gold prosthetic nose. Your face tattoo that says "FREE
 MUSTACHE
RIDES". This is who you are, Marsha.
Oh, and if smartphone manufactures have their way, that map will also
 soon
be the preeminent key to your digital life.
At least we won't be misplacing it all the time, amirite?! Ha-ha!
 Any-hoo,
what's the deal with avocado toast?
 Basically, it's a lose-lose situation-albeit one that the smartphone
 makers
of the world seem all too excited to drag us into.
You will not be surprised to learn that the word "enclave", which is
 used to
describe the technology Apple currently uses to keep your fingerprint
 safe
as part of Touch ID and will certainly be used as part of Face ID, does
 not
 appear anywhere in this article.
Companies like Apple, Google, and Qualcomm are charging ahead to make
 face
scans the new biometric we'll rely on for everything from unlocking
 phones
 to making digital purchases.
And presumably all these companies have the same set of motivations,
 right?
Like, they're all interested in getting your data and selling to third
parties because that's their business model, right?

January 16 2018 DropBox will no longer be supported on devices running
something earlier than OS X 10.9?

Thanks,

Gabe

RE: Face it: Every new Apple technology is a disaster

2017-08-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
Kawal,

I'm not sure I understand what you mean,
If you hold the phone with the front of it pointing at your face then the face
recognition would see your face
like hold the phone with the screen looking at you, surely you can do that with
some success?

As for voiceover reacting with face recognition
Well that's a good one,
I'm guessing it will not do much other than alert you if the phone is unlocked
by talking, or say something like
Recognition not possible,
Similar to what the phone does already if your finger print isn't picked up.

If your really unlucky or it's set up well then it could make the comment,
Your to ugly to use this device, please take it back to the store you got it
from!

Or,
You don't own this phone, give it back or I'll scream!

What I'd like to know is how is voice over going to work with Face recognition?
My other question is how is a VI person to point the phone at one's face for
the software to pick up that it was you?

Thanks.

Kawal.

RE: dropbox compatibility

I haven't either,

But lets face it,it's the iPhone 4,4s and 3G range that can't support later os
versions.
