Re: something's seriously different on audible.com/library

2016-04-16 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Christina,

I’ve just visited my audible.com library and everything is exactly as it was
with two tables, the second being the one with my books in it.
Have you installed any software recently that could have affected Safari?
Several people I know have downloaded Mac Keeper and had endless trouble with
unwanted popup windows and such in Safari.

Cheers,

Anne

I understand that VO-Shift-J should do this, but I have not directly
experienced this working. Would you be willing to share the site, so that
somebody else can look at the exact issue?

Best wishes,

Re: Tray?

2016-04-16 Thread Christina C.
I will try VO + shift + J. I don’t mind sharing the site at all but it seems
that I am the only who has experienced this on audible.com. I don’t know why
but after I am logged in and click on library to download a book onto my Mac
the web page is totally different. There is not a table anymore with a download
link in the same row as the book I want to download. On the main page of my
library in audible, there is some kind of statement saying that Audible has
made enhancements to my library. There is a link to change my library from grid
view to list view, but neither of those have a link to download the book, only
a listen now link that does not seem to do anything.

So, in the very different view of my library, if I go down and find the book I
want and then click a link called quick look, then I get a popup and voice Over
announces “close tray”. I then have to navigate around until I hear download
options. Once I click on that Another popup opens but VO seems to lose focus.

I don’t think you will be able to try this as a few people have told me that
they are not experiencing this change to their library. All I can tell you is
that I have had sighted help from two different people and they have confirmed
that there is no download button there anymore and they helped me figure out
how to download my book Maybe things will go back to normal. I will try again
since I have rebooted my Mac and I will try the website again to see if things
have gone back to normal. :)

Re: something's seriously different on audible.com/library

2016-04-16 Thread Christina C.
Thanks so much for checking it out. I have not downloaded any apps in many
months to my Mac. I got sighted assistance from two different people and they
described everything to me that I was experiencing and I tried to explain it as
best as I can. The big thing is that they both confirmed that there was not a
table with a download button. I’m also wondering if when I click to try to
change between grid view and list view it does not really seem that anything
changes, maybe I am stuck in grid view and I should try an actual mouse click
on the links. Maybe somehow my view has changed and a VO spacebar does not
work. I really don’t know.

I know this sounds weird, but I am going to go on my iPhone and see if the
webpage in mobile is the same as I am experiencing on my Mac in Safari. Maybe
somehow my Mac is visiting the mobile site. I know a long long long time ago I
tried using the mobile site on my Mac but there was no library link and so I
never tried the mobile site again. It’s so weird because I have never had this
problem before. I have downloaded books onto my Mac many other times from
Audible. Well, I rebooted my computer and I will also visit my library again
and see what I get.

Do Activities Not Work in El Cap

2016-04-16 Thread Brian Fischler
I have set up my activity for mail in VO Utility running the latest version of
El Cap and it does not seem to stick as I like trackpad to be turned off and
verbosity to be set to low so I avoid hearing disclosure triangle. Any way the
activity seems to work for a few minutes then it stops working I do not like
how the assign activity button reads apps and when I click it mail does have a
check next to it. Any one getting activities to work let me know if I am doing
something wrong. Thanks,

Re: Silencing 'disclosure triangle' (was: Safari Verbosity Driving Me Bonkers Any Help How to get rid of)

2016-04-16 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey all,

Yes it was working for me but I think it was because I had set my verbosity to
low for a bit and I just found out that activities as a whole are not even
working for me so sorry about the incorrect info. If you do set verbosity to
low it will get rid of the announcement of disclosure triangle but not sure why
the activity will not stay set.

one is you are currently on text inside of cell. That’s great I know that
and do not need to be told this every time I move some where in safari.
 This is awful.

Re: Iphone Se.

2016-04-16 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Anders,
I haven't had my hands on that iPhone SE yet. I too like smaller phones. The
only thing I have heard about audio is that some people are complaining about
bad call quality on Bluetooth. It only affects the SE, apparently, and
supposedly Apple is looking into it.

Hi!
Has anyone had their hands on the Iphone SE yet?
I am not very happy with my Iphone 6S since its to big for me as i really want

As small as possible.
I therefore Bought me an android Motorola Moto g and i have done some testing.
But i really don’t feel comfortable with the way talkback works and also the

Android and all i ask for.
Maybe i am to sensible but thats the way i am.
So now when the Iphone SE came out i was really excited about how good it seems
to be.
The only thing it doesn’t have is the 3d touch.
But i don’t use that myself.
So whats your thoughts?
How about battery life?
How about audio quality and such?
I can ofcourse go and get my hands on one myself.
But i want to hear others opinion first.

Re: Safari Verbosity Driving Me Bonkers Any Help How to get rid of

Hey Mark,

Ends up the reason it went away was because I had verbosity set to low for a
moment, as I did not realize my activity for mail is not even working. So sorry
about that, but you can get rid of hearing it by setting verbosity to low.

Hello Brian,

Activities seem to be working for me in El Cap. I too have a Mail activity with
low verbosity. The only annoying thing is the time it takes to switch
activities.

Cheers,

Hi ann thanks for confirming. Can you let me know in your activity for mail
does it say mail where in VO utility it has what program the activity is
assigned to or does it read apps and you have to hit the pop up button to get

Favourites, (Not Sidebar,) Issue

2016-04-16 Thread Dora Speck
Hi again all,

When I explained my sidebar issue, it wasn't the sidebar that was the issue. It
was the favourites within the sidebar that isn't expanding. Is there any
command to expand it? The right arrow key isnt doing anything.
All tips are welcome.
Thanks, and have a great day.

From,

Dora Speck

Well, as it turns out, I was mistaken. The app I downloaded on my Apple TV was

However, to answer your question, yes, Audible does offer some free titles.

10 Super Efficient Ways Inbox by Gmail Saves You Time

2016-04-16 Thread Kevin Chao

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/10-super-efficient-ways-inbox-gmail-saves-time/

10 Super Efficient Ways Inbox by Gmail Saves You Time

Gmail is good as ever, but could Inbox by Gmail be the better choice for you?

Inbox by Gmail is Google’s most recent approach to email organization and
management. It takes some getting used to, but if it’s capable of giving you a
simpler email workflow, it’s worth adopting. And now you don’t even need an
invite to use Inbox!

TIL you can mute in @inboxbygmail by pressing M.

— Josh Todd (@JoshTodd) April 6, 2016

To help you decide whether you should switch over to Inbox completely, we’ll
show you some of the ways in which it’ll make email better for you. But first,
let’s show you where everything is in Inbox’s interface.

Where Inbox Options Are

You’ll find all of Inbox’s options and settings in one of five locations:

The toolbar that appears when you hover over a message – This is where you’ll
find the options to pin an email, snooze it, mark it as done (or move it to the
inbox)

The pop-up menu that appears when you click on the Move to… icon (three dots
arranged vertically) in the toolbar shown above
The icon-driven menu hidden behind the Compose button – You’ll be able to see
the menu when you hover over the big red plus (+) icon at the bottom right in
Inbox
Inbox’s Settings dialog – To bring this up, click on the hamburger icon at the
top left in the Inbox interface, and in the fly-out sidebar that appears, click
on Settings

Individual bundle settings – To bring up the Settings dialog for any bundle,
hover on its link in the sidebar and click on the gear icon that appears next
to it.

Now let’s see how Inbox saves you, the user, both time and effort.

1. Turns Your Emails into To-dos

With Gmail, you can send emails as tasks to your to-do list app, but with
Inbox, your email is your to-do list. Inbox treats it as such because it
understands that most emails need you to take some kind of action.

Inbox allows you to mark emails as “done” instead of “read” or “archived”. That
may be a simple change of wording, but it does put a different spin on email
management.

I'm loving Inbox by Gmail. Making emails "actionable" made the experience
amazing for a To-Do List junkie like me – Mark "Done"#InboxbyGmail

— Ashley Mitchell (@amitchellidea) October 29, 2014

Emails that you mark as done get shunted out of your way. It’s like checking
tasks off your to-do list and is the equivalent of archiving in Gmail. You can
also pin important emails to the top of your inbox for quick access to them.

2. Sorts Email Right for You

Inbox takes the onus of sorting your email and does a pretty good job of it. It
places similar emails in groups called Bundles.

When you’re setting up Inbox for the first time, you’ll get a prompt to choose
which type of emails you’d like to see grouped into a separate bundle. Trips,
Promos, Updates, Forums, and Finance are some of the bundle types that you can
choose from.

Use the Create new… sidebar link if you’d like to create a custom bundle. You
can go back and tweak your bundle preferences anytime via Inbox settings.

3. Highlights Just the Data You Need

>From flight times to car rental info to order confirmations, Inbox is familiar
>with the kind of data that you’re usually looking for in your inbox. That’s
>why it keeps that important data highlighted at all times in scannable cards
>for easy identification.

Inbox also makes it easy to tell if an email has attachments, photos, inline
images, links to videos, etc., by making their thumbnails visible in your inbox.

If you mention a link, a phone number, or an email address while creating a
reminder in Inbox, its Assist feature brings up extra information that it
thinks you might need. We’re sharing this tweet as an example:

Another win for @inboxbygmail. I set this reminder for myself a month ago, and
Inbox knows when my pharmacy opens! pic.twitter.com/pUMliylPnc

— Danger Manley (@DangerManley) March 30, 2016

You’ll appreciate that Inbox is smart enough to not display sensitive data like
license keys in cards.

4. Speeds up Email Replies

For any email that’s currently open, Inbox lists three text snippets beneath
the message. These are replies crafted by Inbox to save you some time. Click on
any of the snippets and a new draft appears with that snippet pasted in the

It's a much smaller phone. I think it's about a 4 inch, so probably about
the size, or maybe even slightly less than the 4S used to be.

BTW, what colors does the S E come in? And, I presume! that they will pare
with an Apple Watch with no issue?

Yeah, it's S E, not C E. I could see where you'd get confused though, as

The iPhone SE is physically the iPhone 5S body. It is identical. I compared
it with an iPhone 5S. This includes the headset jack.

Sorry. I didn't understand the degree of confusion. The latest iPhone is
the Sierra Echo.
The reason you might want to perform a web search is that you could obtain
much more information than I am willing to type here about the latest
iPhone.

iPhone SE

RE: Iphone Se.

2016-04-16 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Yes I was playing with one just after they wer released.

They are by feel just an iPhone 5s etc.
They feel the same shape and size but he speed is majorly increased and but
otherwise it's just the iPhone as we know it.

I had to help a colleague set her's up from her iPhone 5 backup.

And for the price, I have to say I wouldn't argue about it, it appears to be a
great little phone

Hope that helps.

Hi!
Has anyone had their hands on the Iphone SE yet?
I am not very happy with my Iphone 6S since its to big for me as i really want
a small phone.
As small as possible.
I therefore Bought me an android Motorola Moto g and i have done some testing.
But i really don’t feel comfortable with the way talkback works and also the
way many people on the Eyes-free list is handling the movement from apple to
Android and all i ask for.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my klunky english.
/A

RE: Apple Pencil with VoiceOver

2016-04-16 Thread Simon Fogarty
I couldn't get the apple pencil to work properly when I was playing around with
the iPad pro 12" we had at work.

Not sure if it was a sight related issue or I hadn't set things up correctly
bettwen them.

The pencil lets the user write as well as draw and gives them the ability to
use the pencil in some ways like a paint brucsh for fine or wide stroke like
work, just another type of stylus

Star Wars digital editions

2016-04-16 Thread Chris G

Hi,
I have a question perhaps someone knows the answer.
I purchased the Force Awakens from iTunes and it has audio descriptions.
Does anyone know if the other 6 movies have descriptions? I'm
Referring to the digital editions. FWIW the Blu-ray films all have
descriptions and I want to make sure before I buy the other 6 movies
that they have descriptions as well.

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Star Wars digital editions

2016-04-16 Thread Eric Brinkman
It doesn't look like they do. The page for The Force Awakens on iTunes clearly
says audio description is available, but the pages for the other films do not.
Perhaps when Disney releases the unaltered theatrical cuts of the OT in three
or four years, they will have audio description but for now it looks like you
need to stick with the Blu-rays. I would love it if someone who owns the iTunes
versions could prove me wrong.
