A Dictionary Suggestion That Could Benefit Both Mac and iOS Devices

2015-10-07 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi all. I'm almost about to go to bed, but I had a suggestion that I wanted to
share before I signed off for the night. It's a dictionary suggestion that
could benefit the Mac and if they implement a dictionary in iOS it could be
beneficial there too. So anyway, getting to the suggestion. I have a bunch of
voices from three third party developers plus the voices that Apple provide
here on my Mac. I notice that some of them may pronounce a word properly and
some of them don't. An Example of this is the name of the current OS for Mac,
El Capitan. I know that Alex says the word properly, but the third party voices
from Nuance and that don't. I know I could go into the Voiceover utility and
type in the proper pronunciation, but why should I do this to all the voices?
Alex says it fine so why should this change also apply to a voice that says the
word properly? That's why I think Apple should implement an option in the OS X
Voiceover dictionary, and later in iOS if they make a dictionary for it, that a
pronunciation of a word be tied to a specific voice. Now if you use the popular
Windows screenreader NVDA, you'll know what I'm talking about. There's a
submenu in their dictionary menu where you can select if the pronunciation will
be global or for a specific voice. This is useful if you're like me that use
multiple Sapi voices or voices that they provide that are high in quality. If a
setting like this were made for the Mac, if you use Alex and other voices, you
could set this up for those voices and leave Alex alone. I hope this all makes
sense and good night to you all.

Hello Anders,

The setting is the checkbox Allow cursor wrapping and it should be unchecked.
It’s in Navigation in the VoiceOver Utility.

Need help with navigating a problematic web site

2015-10-07 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Good morning guys!

I'm trying to navigate the embedded internal flash web player for Sirius XM
Radio online streaming.

I'm navigating to:

http://player.siriusxm.com

I get myself logged in, if I'm not automatically done so.

Once logged in, here is where the problem is occuring. I can get a channel of
my choice playing easily, but I'm really not understanding how to get the
embedded inlined volume control to work correctly. At the top of the html
content area, I see the volume adjuster group, but when I interact with that
group, I don't really see anything underneath it. If instead of interacting, I
simply just VO+right arrow past that item, I see a few links that just simply
say "slash." Hitting VO+space on them doesn't seem to be doing anything though.

I'm using Yosemite 10.10.5 with Safari version 9. Further also for your
knowledge, I'm using DOM navigation. I'm not sure if that really matters, but
anyway...

If anyone has figured out how on earth to do this, please let me know. I'm
about ready to report this to them as an accessibility issue, but I'd rather
not do that until I know with utter assurance that there is absolutely no work
around that I may just not be aware of.

Thank you guys profusely for your help.

Chris.

Re: Bying a new computer.

2015-10-07 Thread Scott Granados
I would say more memory is always better, if you can up that to 16GB or more
that’s probably a worth while thing if you’re going to do a lot of heavy work.
Audio itself isn’t bad but if you run a lot of tools in parallel etc.

The SSD size depends on what you’re storing. If you have an external drive for
all your content, virtual machines, music, etc then for a root drive that’s
pretty good. If you want to use that as your drive for everything then I would
go a bit larger if funds allow.

Thanks

Turn off your quick nav, and use your arrows once you’re in that group. I had
to work with it but it works and is probably the most accessible flavor of the
player they’ve ever done online. Give that a shot and let me know if you have
any further trouble but after tinkering that’s what I came up with and it works
like a charm. Thanks again and take care.

Re: Need help with navigating a problematic web site

2015-10-07 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Tim,

I need a little clarification. I actually don't use Quick nav. I've been
actually just holding down the VO keys, then left and right arrowing. In other
words, I've literally been doing a VO+left and right arrow to move through the
page.

OK, so are you basically saying, find the group for the volume ajuster,
interact with it, then once done, start hitting left and right arrow keys,
making sure that my quick nav isn't turned on?

Write me back and let me know. Once I get a little bit more clarification on
this, I'll gladly give it a try, then report back.

Chris.

Actually if you’re not using quick nav, get to the group, interact, and don’t
use left and right arrows inside the group. Use up and won. See where that gets

Actually if you’re not using quick nav, get to the group, interact, and don’t
use left and right arrows inside the group. Use up and won. See where that gets
you. Remember, volume up, volume down. It’s a little odd but it does work. See
what happens with that and if you still get stuck email me back and I’ll see
what else I might be missing. In the meantime I’m getting more coffee so that
might help. Lol.

html content area, I see the volume adjuster group, but when I interact with
that group, I don't really see anything underneath it. If instead of
interacting, I simply just VO+right arrow past that item, I see a few links
that just simply say "slash." Hitting VO+space on them doesn't seem to be
doing anything though.

I'm using Yosemite 10.10.5 with Safari version 9. Further also for
your knowledge, I'm using DOM navigation. I'm not sure if that really matters,
but anyway...

If anyone has figured out how on earth to do this, please let me
know. I'm about ready to report this to them as an accessibility issue, but
I'd rather not do that until I know with utter assurance that there is
absolutely no work around that I may just not be aware of.

Thank you guys profusely for your help.

Chris.

Actually if you’re not using quick nav, get to the group, interact, and
don’t use left and right arrows inside the group. Use up and won. See
where that gets you. Remember, volume up, volume down. It’s a little odd
but it does work. See what happens with that and if you still get stuck
email me back and I’ll see what else I might be missing. In the meantime
I’m getting more coffee so that might help. Lol.

2015-10-07 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
OK guys,

I've made a very very short, maybe 6 or 7 minute long audio demonstration of
how to get the volume to work. I had to modify the double interaction
instructions Tim gave ever so slightly in order to get it to work, however, I
definitely have very consistently gotten this working with Safari 9 and
Yosemite 10.10.5.

I can't really vouch for El Capitan at this point, but here's how to do this in
Yosemite, at least. It might work this way in El Capi, so you'll just have to
try it. Just know however, over there, your milage may vary.

There is a checkbox that says Allow cursor wrapping. VO+Space, and uncheck
it.

Then close your Voiceover Utility, and you should be good to go.

Chris.

Thanks for your feedback. I don't know about the other things but
since there is braille support in OS X, even if issues have been present

Of course reading with dots 7 and/or 8 is harder, but if well implemented

cell). OS X on the other hand has exactly one caret style, a blinking dot 8,
and exactly one cursor, both 7 and 8, which covers the entire cursor. Very,
very, very annoying, and it just maddens me to turn it off and end up with no
indicator at all.

Braille users use braille in different ways. I think supporting Apple’s
current mode, as well as a full-screen mode, would be acceptable to me, as
would a “Speech box” mode as seen in for example Supernova and in concept very
similar to iOS. Bonus points for a “Literary” braille mode, again as seen in
Supernova, for the reading of beautiful text using correct formatting and
indentation conventions of braille literature. Different strokes for different
folks and all that. But right now, you only have the one mode that always
moves the VO cursor, and it doesn’t work all that well with speech turned on
I’m afraid.

Subject: A Dictionary Suggestion That Could Benefit Both Mac and iOS Devices

Hi all. I'm almost about to go to bed, but I had a suggestion that I wanted
to share before I signed off for the night. It's a dictionary suggestion
that could benefit the Mac and if they implement a dictionary in iOS it
could be beneficial there too. So anyway, getting to the suggestion. I have
a bunch of voices from three third party developers plus the voices that
Apple provide here on my Mac. I notice that some of them may pronounce a
word properly and some of them don't. An Example of this is the name of the
current OS for Mac, El Capitan. I know that Alex says the word properly, but
the third party voices from Nuance and that don't. I know I could go into
the Voiceover utility and type in the proper pronunciation, but why should I
do this to all the voices? Alex says it fine so why should this change also
apply to a voice that says the word properly? That's why I think Apple
should implement an option in the OS X Voiceover dictionary, and later in
iOS if they make a dictionary for it, that a pronunciation of a word be tied
to a specific voice. Now if you use the popular Windows screenreader NVDA,
you'll know what I'm talking about. There's a submenu in their dictionary
menu where you can select if the pronunciation will be global or for a
specific voice. This is useful if you're like me that use multiple Sapi
voices or voices that they provide that are high in quality. If a setting
like this were made for the Mac, if you use Alex and other voices, you could
set this up for those voices and leave Alex alone. I hope this all makes
sense and good night to you all.

Re: Best Way to Use Spotlight Search

2015-10-07 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
I can get around with just the basics. Start with command-space to bring
up search and type something in. Once results appear it will move focus
to the first item in the results list (top hit) so you can just up/down
arrow through them. VO focus will stay on the search input so you can
refine the search if it's not giving you what you want. One downside of
the up/down arrow is it doesn't announce the sections such as "PDF
Documents" or "Folders". To do that I have to VO-right twice to get to
the results table, interact with that, then vo-up/down to review the
results with interspersed category headers. Once you find the result you
want you hit return on it to open that file, link, email or whatever it is.

Hello Dionipher,

I do not understand your comment.

What are you trying to accomplish? It sounds as though you have successfully
created the bootable USB install key for El Capitan.

Are you now attempting to perform a fresh install of El Capitan on your Mac or
are you simply attempting to install El Capitan over your existing copy of
Yosemite. Please be as specific as possible.

No way to Post to Facebook through Notification Center in El Capitan

2015-10-07 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey all, I hope to hear that I might be missing something but here is yet
another bug I have discovered in El Capitan asI just got my social networks
back in to the Notification Center and tried posting to Facebook which is now a
nightmare as you no longer can interact when writing something to post to
Facebook, you have to tab around once you click Facebook and then after writing
something there is no post button. Hope to hear I am missing something, but
after using El Capitan it really blows me away how many minor issues and
oversights I have found.

Hi,
I just found a way, I hope it works for others as well.
When you are in the edit box and you have finished writing your post, press
CTRL + Tab and then, press Tab till you get to the Post button, and press
Return. This works for Twitter and others as well, from their. That should do
it. :)
Hope this helps,

Yes, this works. Also, sometimes leaving the window and coming back to it
will enable you to use the tab or VO-arrow keys to get to the post button.

Re: ChronoSync and voiceover

2015-10-07 Thread Econ Technologies
Emilio,

I work for Econ Technologies, Inc., the creators of ChronoSync. We have
done extensive testing to ensure we have good voiceover support and feel it
is a very good option for those that need accessible applications. We have
not had much feedback from our user-base on this feature, so we're a little
unsure if it meets everyone's voiceover needs, but are very interested in
learning if it works well for you.

My first suggestion would be for you to get a copy of ChronoSync from our
website at: www.econtechnologies.com/downloads/downloads.html

When you launch ChronoSync, you can enable 'Trial Mode' and use it to see
if ChronoSync meets your needs.

You will simply need to setup a new sync document, choose your source and
destination targets and run your sync document to perform the backup. We
have a 'Quick Start Guide' at
http://downloads.econtechnologies.com/manuals/CS_QuickStartGuide.pdf that
can help you with the process.

Post here, or contact us directly on our support form page at:
http://www.econtechnologies.com/support/open-ticket.php and give us your
feedback. We are always looking to improve the product and if you have
accessibility suggestions, we would be happy to listen.

Regards,
Econ

Chromevox and voiceover Navication

2015-10-07 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I am learning the ins-and-outs of working with Chromevox, and so far I like it.
I like how flash is imbedded into Google Chrome, and I like how I can change
voices because the bubbly one at first activation was not ideal. Lol

My question deals with navigation through web sites etc. I am aware of the
navigation keys one must use to move through web sites, but is there an easier
method of navigation?
Presently,, I must press the CTRL-key, then the letter “N,” followed by an
additional letter such as, “E” to move to a search field, “C” to move to a
comobox, or “X” to love to the next link if I do not want to use the tab-key.
My original intent of learning how to use Chromvox is to learn how to create
Google documents, spreadsheets, and power points because I’ve heard that this
can be useful in some situations.

Additionally, what are ways others have found to navigate within comboboxes? I
found a work-around while in gmail using Google Chrome, but just curious to
know the methods of others’ who use this browser?

Finally, what are some plugins others who use Chrome can suggest to increase
the ease of using this browser?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Re: No way to Post to Facebook through Notification Center in El Capitan

2015-10-07 Thread joseph hudson
Hello, if you have added the social widget to the notification center, and
you've selected Facebook, or Twitter. Whichever one you prefer, then what you
do after that, it is you navigate to the edit text field type what you want to
type in the text field, and shift tab backwards, and then the post button will
appear.

Night Owl interrupts messages

2015-10-07 Thread Antonio Guimaraes
Hi all,

Using right Owl, I switch to list view, then interact with the table of
messages.

Most of the time the messages won’t read with VoiceOver in their entirety.
Seems there’s a time limit for how long each message will be read for.

I don’t seem to experience this problem from my timeline.

Any solutions?

Antonio

Hi,

Why interact with the table? There is no need. Just arrow down through the
list. You will also want to make sure the window is expanded go to the windows
menu and hit zoom.

I interacted with the table because I didn’t know you can read the list with up
