Tw2-step verification and third party apps

2015-08-25 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hello,
I have just purchased a new email client for the Mac called Mail mate and am
trying to get my iCloud- and gmail accounts over to it. Since this procedure
involves so called app specific passwords i wonder where i set those for the
different services?
Do i get the app specific passwords from the server or do i set them in the app?

Adding members to office365

2015-08-25 Thread Danny Noonan
I just started my free trial of office 365 and attempted to add my family
members but every time I enter an email address I am told I have to prove I'm
not a robot. I click next and in Safari on the Mac and my iPhone I get
"Safari can not make a secure connection to this server."
I've tried turning off wifi on the phone but it's the same on 4g. I've also
tried crome on the iPhone and get a blank page. On the suggestion from
Microsoft I deleted my cookies and history with no luck. Microsoft suggested I
use a pc. What pc? I'm an apple guy.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Danny

Or if you have skype use the audio test service this will let you know

Re: testing a headphone mic

2015-08-25 Thread Alex Hall
Good point. The only thing to remember with Skype is that it doesn't use a
connected mic automatically, it sticks with the default unless you change it.
Be sure to connect your mic, then go to Skype's preferences and into the audio
tab. Choose the mic from the popup button and close preferences. Then the test
service will be testing the proper device.

Hi,

App specific passwords are set on the web. In gMail, you need to go into your
Account settings, and I believe that it is under the Security tab. I suspect
that it would be similar in iCloud or other eMail services that have that level
of security.

Re: apple script to remove resource fork files from usb drives?

2015-08-25 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
Hello,
I know there is an option in tintertool, to not include resource information
though that option might just be for network drives and not removable media.

If you have the terminal commands, then you could create a bash script to
execute, or you could wrap the terminal commands in a
do shell script in AppleScript.

I
I believe that there might be an event you can capture for eject events, but I
don't quite remember.

Mail Act On will do this. I have no idea if it is accessible, I looked at the
product about 7 years ago when I was doing some consulting.

Besides conrolling outgoing messages, one can set up pseudo smart actions to
file messages.

Let me know how it goes.

My I O S 1 Day Challenge, Part 1

2015-08-25 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
So guys, maybe I am a bit of an extremest, however I have decided to take a
major challenge upon myself. So many people have said that I O S is at a
point where it could almost serve as a production based computer setup for some
people. I decided, techy as I am, to take this challenge and see if that is
really the case for my daily lifestyle. Does it mean that I am going to use I
O S exclusively from this point forward, and never use a computer again? Hell!
no! All I'm saying is, I wanted to really truely give the mobile world a fair
chance, and really take it to the extreme.

Therefore, for the next 24 hours, I am trying to stay off my pc as much as
humanly possible. Obviously, if a customer of mine needs something done that I
find isn't working with I O S, then I'll hop on my mac or my PC, and get it
done, but even then, I won't do so unless it winds up being a very very last
resort. I really am open-minded about wanting to try this and really see if I
truely can manage with only a mobile device, be it my IPhone, or my IPad to do
this.

This said, here is the first challenge I've hit. I know that being you all
won't be able to see what I'm seeing first hand, it's going to make things a
bit difficult, but trust me when I say, this was a nightmare!

I am running a droplet on Digital Ocean of UBuntu 14.04 64 bit, Server. On
here, I have followed the instructions posted by Nerd Vittles and have
installed Asterisk's Incredible PBX. Tonight, I wanted to add an entry to my
main company IVR. So, I grabbed my IPad, and went to the FreePBX admin web
interface. I have IPTables installed locking it down to my IP address, so even
if I was to give you all the URL to go to, it wouldn't work for you guys. Just
take my word for this. The page loaded just fine, but first off, I saw the
link on this page to log into the ISynthany server, if I had one configured,
which I don't. I also saw the button to load the user panel login screen.
When I double tapped on this button however, I was presented with a page
telling me that Safari was unable to connect. I know this is baloni, as both
my windows PC, as well as all 3 of my macs can connect with absolutely no
problem to that page.

So, I backed myself out, back to the main FreePBX page, and proceeded to look
for the link/button to log into the admin panel. Try as I may however, the
link was nowhere to be found. I know where the link should be on the page, but
neither touch exploration nor flicking would focus it. Now, to be fair, let me
say this. I do not know if the link was visibly there on the screen. If I had
to guess based on my touch exploration, I'd say it probably most likely wasn't,
but again, let's be totally fair. I cannot prove this one way or another. I
turned off, and back on Voiceover, which did entirely no good. I also tried
using my item chooser list, which yielded nothing. Finally, at my whit's end,
I turned my rotor to links, and found nothing, buttons, and found nothing, and
even form controls, and found nothing.

I tried this both with, and without a bluetooth keyboard. So needless to say,
either the way that site is scripted/coded is just very very! nonstandard, or
Safari is just having a major fit with this web admin interface.

Is this real common that you'll see web pages on the mobile side of things not
render well? I even went so far as to click the icon that said show full site,
but that had no effect accessibility wise. Is there maybe another little trick
I could try?

Yes, guilty as charged, I broke my challenge in this one case. I didn't have a
choice being this was business related, and urgently had to be done. So, I
just hopped on my mac and did it. That really has sucked the fun out of me
though, as man! I was so! looking forward to that working, and me being able
to be really impressed. Unfortunately, not the case here.

Chris.

Hi Chris. I still use Growl because 1, that built in feature you speak of
to automatically read alerts only reads alerts and 2, There's no way to my
knowledge to have notifications from the notification center speak
automatically if someone turns off Voiceover like I do when I'm doing something
in VMWare Fusion or playing RS Games. Also in new versions of Skype due to them
stopping support for Growl, in my experience Voiceover doesn't read incoming
IMs sometimes when in the chat window. That's why having Skype 6.15 and Growl
is a good combination. Also I have Growl set to work with Night Owl to read my
tweets automatically since Voiceover doesn't handle having multiple tweets
thrown at it in the notification center. Also, until I can find an accessible
weather client to replace Menuweather or Orbis as it's called now, Growl and
Omnigrowl will have to do.

Trasferring file.

2015-08-25 Thread 'Gabriele Battaglia' via MacVisionaries

Hi all.
Is it possible to transfer a very large file, about 10 GB, from a mac
computer to another one, via the internet, maybe using some terminal
command?
I am lookingfor a solution which doesn't include a third party service
like iCloud, Dropbox or whatever.

Thanks for any info.

Gabriel.

If you want to do it with terminal you could use ftp. But you may find that it
is possible to email this file (using mac mail). I’m not sure of your operating
system but a while back apple put in mail drop to help with incredibly large
files. I’m not sure if it’ll accommodate 10 gigs but it may be worth a shot.

Re: Trasferring file.

2015-08-25 Thread Scott Granados
FTP or SCP are probably your friends here.

Enable an ftpd or sshd server on the destination side, create a user and copy
files using that user.
If the computers are on the same network segment just use NFS or
Apple’s networking support and copy the file.

Bottom line you have the full suite of unix tools available so this
should be trivial to do.

Hope that helps.

Re: My I O S 1 Day Challenge, Part 1

2015-08-25 Thread Scott Granados
Chris, your problem is your tablet or phone doesn’t support flash. Remember
that the free PBX interface is based in flash if memory serves. I remember the
buttons you mention as being flash controls. Webadmin itself isn’t flash based
and you could access that with a direct URL deeper in to your platform but my
gut feeling is you’re bumping in to the lack of flash.

Hope that helps.

P.S. Good luck on your challenge. I’ve been finding that my phone is taking
more and more of my usage.

I had no reason to look closely at dictation until a couple of weeks ago when a

You can also assign your own commands to specific key combinations. I’ve found

But selecting all applications does. So if you choose to add a command for

If the other machine has "remote login" turned on in sharing and it's
not behind a firewall then you should be able to use the sftp command
from terminal to connect to the other machine and "put" the file
directly. Many of the chat clients also support direct peer to peer file
transfers.

Hello and thanks.
I’m totally new to this kind of procedures.
I know to ask so much but, could you please provide a short step by step guide

Computer aren’t under the same network LAN, they’re in different cities

Many, many thanks… I guess the procedure should be very interesting and useful

Re: the anti cleaning article

2015-08-25 Thread Scott Granados
What’s new, between all the BS in the sigs and the quoted bible verses here and
there it’s a whole religious fiction fest on any blindness related mailing list
let alone this one. I bet if I started quoting Satanic verses in my sig or
muslim references a good percentage on the list would get their panties in a
twist but no if it’s Christian fiction then the rest of us in the real world
have to have our noses rubbed in it. Moderators should kick anyone off with
more than a 2 line sig or who mentioned religion at all on a technical list.
If this was a Christian list or some other equal waste of time and brain power
then it would be fine but this is a computer list. Knock it off already!

And I don’t trust imaginary characters of fiction.

Maybe you've noticed, there are no moderators on this list anymore. The best
you can hope for is just to ignore stuff that bothers you. Or, if it's a
persistent troller, just use your delete key. That's about all the relief
you're going to get around here.

Re: the anti cleaning article

2015-08-25 Thread Scott Granados
I was wondering about that. I remember years ago this list was totally over
moderated and it seems to have gone to the lack of moderation extreme. I
personally would prefer unmoderated so that’s fine with me, it’s just the hyper
religiosity of the blind sometimes really pisses me off. Probably contributes
to our lower economic and cultural standing.

Ah well

I’m done, I’ve taken my medication and I apologize for being offensive if
anyone was offended.

Hi all!
Are we allowed to send attachments to this list? I have a pdf grocery store ad

strangely and I just wanted somebody else to take a look at it to see if sense
can be made of.
Thanks,

Yes indeed, this list has gone from, at various stages of its life, totally
noisy and idiotic, to totally over-regulated, veering back toward the noisy
end. I too am a great fan of the love-it-or-leave-it style of discussion, but
there’s something to be said for having a person—possibly just one person—with
a hand near to the levers that restore calm and order in times of imminent
crisis. This goes as well for practically any networked service, not just
email lists.

This used to work, at least for replies to a recipient. But, as of Mavericks,
they broke it. I have the bug listed for reporting at some stage. Now I just
do as others do, i.e. just set the address manually.

Removing that person permanently would return the list to a relatively

Some lists filter attachments. Without an admin there's no way to know
either way--do you have Dropbox? You could post a public link.

Creating a playlist in iTunes

2015-08-25 Thread Wayne Merritt
Greetings. I would like to create a playlist in iTunes, add songs to
it, and have it synced with my iPhone 6. Can someone give me simple
steps for doing this? I am having problems adding songs to a playlist
on my iPhone and wondered if it would be easier to do on the Mac.

Thanks,
Wayne

RE: My I O S 1 Day Challenge, Part 1

And why would we care about this and why is it posted here

Subject: My I O S 1 Day Challenge, Part 1

Chris.

Re: My I O S 1 Day Challenge, Part 1

2015-08-25 Thread Yuma Decaux

Man, there’s something called a blog for this type of stuff. My next challenge
when I get so bored I got nothing else to do, I’ll try to make siri on my watch
talk to siri on my ipad, and record the conversation with the dictation feature
on my mac. I’ll write an applescript specifically for this challenge, and try
to stream through http live streaming on youtube, vimeo, merecat, periscope and
soundcloud. Oh boy, how much fun this is going to be. Watch out for my own siri
challenge folks, I promise you a spectacular time and lots of laughs. And if
you want a transcript of the conversation between my watch and my ipad, you
will have to register through a challenging web page I will script. The person
who can access the transcript receives a free copy of my next blog, the cooking
pancakes with IOS challenge. Stay tuned, folks!

how can I make custom audio files acceptible to Icloud?

2015-08-25 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay,

This is weird. When I first turned on Apple Music back when it first came out,
I noticed that many custom albums which I had put together, (one especially
being a collection of podcasts that I myself recorded) got uploaded to iCloud
in Apple music. However, other files did not. I decided to try to solve the
issue of certain collections of files labeled as being "ineligible" by iCloud
by letting iTunes reencode the files as being .m4a at 256KBPS. I compared the
meta data of those files which got accepted with the files which, despite
iTunes reencoding them as not being acceptible. The data appears to be the
same in the info window all throughout the files. Still, problem not solved.
Any advice? I should mention that it's not a question of space, as I have more
than enough. Thansk.

Sincerely,
The Constantly Barefooted Ray

Still a happy Mac, Verizon Wireless iPhone 6+ and Apple TV user!

Using Find Command in mail

2015-08-25 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey all,

I have never really found the need for it therefore have never used the find
command in mail. I was attempting to show someone how to do this today, and was
surprised that it did not work very well, at least not the way I use Find in my
contacts. Does anyone use find a lot and if so what commands do use in mail and
pages for it. In contacts i do a Command F type the persons name then hit tab
to get to the name then use VO J to jump to that person’s contact card. Any
help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Hi all!
Just posted a message with the link and forgot to include a comment. I've
noticed that when I load a file and open it with preview I usually have to turn
off voiceover till the file loads to make it work properly. This is
problematic because if it is a large file I don't always know when it is
loaded. Are there better pdf readers for the mac?

It is so frustrating to have access finally to the store ads and then not be
able to use them.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Using Find Command in mail

2015-08-25 Thread Alex Hall
You'll want to use cmd-option-f, not cmd-f. If you do, as you type, you'll get
a list of possibilities. For instance, if you type "test", a menu appears with
options for mail whose subjects contain "test", or whose bodies contain the
word. If you type a name, you'll get contact matches instead; left arrow to the
start of the embedded text once you choose one, then vo-space, and you can pick
"from" or "to". Once you play with the search field for a bit it makes sense,
but it's unlike anything else on the Mac I've ever run into, so it takes
getting used to.

In OS X 10.11, Apple promises you'll be able to search Spotlight for things
like "mail sent to [some name] last Friday", so searches will get far easier.
Hopefully that feature works as advertised, because even on a good day, Mail's
search field can sometimes be noting but frustrating.

Hey Alex,

I knew there had to be something a little more to the find feature in mail,

Re: Using Find Command in mail

2015-08-25 Thread Brian Fischler
Ok got that as it looks like Command Option F is a quicker way to launch the
search feature from the toolbar. Now what about conducting a find for a certain
word in an email you recived? I tried doing both Command F and Command Option F
and neither seems to work. Thanks,

Re: Using Find Command in mail

2015-08-25 Thread Alex Hall
For that, I'd just open the email like normal, and use vo-f to search. I find
that to be the most reliable text search in any app, from Text Edit to Mail to
Safari.

a new macvisionaries list

2015-08-25 Thread Littlefield, Tyler
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello all:
I understand there's been a lot of mess on this list and at least two
people I know of have left--that's not counting however many vanished
without saying anything.

I believe this is a great community and I don't want to see it die off
or fall under the issues it has been. I understand a lot of us (this
includes me) are at fault to one extreme or another.

To this end and to try to preserve this community, I've started a new
list. I'd like to welcome everyone to join. Regardless of past posts
here and anything else, we start with a clean slate. There are a set
of well-defined rules; if you join and see something that needs to be
edited/added, please do let me know. Similarly, if you have questions,
please get in touch with me.

I will be the only moderator at present until everything is soarted
out, then I'd like to get someone else involved. I'll probably be
putting that call out shortly.

My personal address is ty...@tysdomain.com for any questions.
Also, the list information is as follows:
Subscribers can join the list by sending email to
macvisionaries-requ...@freelists.org
with 'subscribe' in the Subject field OR by
visiting the list page at
http://www.freelists.org/list/macvisionaries

I hope that this will help. Plese feel free to get in touch with me.
