Re: Installing a virtual mac under Vmware

2015-06-18 Thread Sean Murphy
All,

VMWare fusion 7.2 fixes a bug in detection of USB HID devices where they do not
come up in the device menu. Passing it on for anyone who cares.

Also I have been speaking with VMWare on the whole issue of how the keyboard
isn’t fully passed into the host machine. Early days on this one. I want to see
what VMWare says since Apple states it is a VMware issue.

Under windows you do not have the issues where eVoice-over is still
intersecting keystrokes. If it is at a very low level then this could end up
being an Apple issue after all.

I can't create a virtual machine with windows on my mac using an external drive

2015-06-18 Thread Ted Phillips
Hi all. I have been trying to create a virtual machine running windows 10X64

from the iso. How can I get VMware Fusion 7.1.2 to use my external USB drive

something of the program that is impossible?

Re: web site navigation by group verses DOM: Opinions wanted

2015-06-18 Thread Devin Prater
Hi all. The one site I absolutely hate to work with on the mac is
forums.audiogames.net
Site the site is accessible, but reading posts is horrible! I have to go to the
next heading, press voiceover-right arrow to skip passed the lists of details
about a user, then finally I get to the post. This is one reason why I've
never, ever liked forums. I have to skip all that stuff about a user just to
get to what I want, the post.

menus on web pages causing problems

2015-06-18 Thread Adrienne Chalmers
Guys

I had this when I recently bought a new MBP. Sites were showing links under
headings as usual on my iMac, but the new MBP was just showing the headings. I
assumed it was settings and tried all the group/dom stuff and everything else I
could think of.

I eventually emailed Apple and they said that they couldn’t tell me exactly
what might be the problem, but if it was working on other Macs, I should export
the VO settings from one of the functioning machines. If you know a VO user
with a machine which isn’t doing this, or you have another machine of your own
that seems to be handling sites as you would expect, try this out, but also
tell Apple as it’s obviously a widespread issue.

To export settings, open VO Utility and look for export settings in the File
menu. I saved mine to iCloud and pulled them off there onto the new machine
using the handy “import settings” in VO Utility.

HTH

Re: on the Mac, unmarking a FB message as Spam

2015-06-18 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I've had this problem on occasion as well and your message inspired me to look
for a solution a little deeper. Usually, I'd just move it from the Junk box to
my InBox hoping to train Mail to realize that it isn't really Junk mail.
According to my research, it's something to do with the interaction, or lack of
it, between Mail and the iCloud servers. The iCloud server is placing the
message in Junk, not your local Mail app, thus the inability to mark it as "Not
Junk". Supposedly, if you turn off Junk mail filtering at the iCloud site and
let the Mail app do that job instead, you'll have better control of the
Junk/Not Junk marking. iCloud isn't the friendliest site for VO users, so
hopefully you're able to make the modification if you wish to set things up
this way.

Turn Twitter Power Into Your Power And Get Things Done

2015-06-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Thanks to my trusty Smartphone app, in conjunction with my favorite web
browser, I have resolved several issues with companies with whom I do
business including Samsung, AT&T, Apple, my local water company, one of my
banking services, a local restaurant chain, a grocery store, and a shopping
facility (just to name a few) via Twitter.

I am convinced that my issues would not have so quickly been resolved via
any other channel.

In one instance, for example, I Tweeted a problem at approximately 11:55pm,
that had previously gone unanswered via traditional channels including email
and telephone, and received a response within 10 minutes. Time of day
notwithstanding, this was not an isolated response time.

So, I want to encourage anyone who is trying to reach a particular developer
of an app, or has questions about a product or service, technology related
or not, to strongly consider using the power of Twitter to make your voice
herd or to simply make contact.

Turn Twitter power into your power and get things done.

Yes, PDF Pen Pro is definitely a Mac program. You can get it from the app store

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your efforts looking into this. I'm confused though. It sounds
like you are talking about working with FB messages in the Mail app? I was
actually doing it in Safari on the FB site. Do you know if what your saying
still applies? I actually tried viewing the message from within MenuTab hoping
that might help, but that didn't do anything either.

Re: web site navigation by group verses DOM: Opinions wanted

2015-06-18 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Strange, I’ve always found that forum very agreeable as compared to many other
boards (though it’s still no substitute for mail, obviously). But I agree that
the easiest way of dealing with the header of every message is to simply skip
it line by line, which means simply getting into the habit of doing a VO-right
until you reach the end of the list of participant data, which is the second of
such lists. How do you do this on Windows?

I set up a mailing list that gateways posts from the audiogames.net forum into
mail. This is much easier to handle in Mac mail. You can subscribe here:
https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
Feel free to use this method of reading if it would help you participate.

Well in Windows, I go to the heading of the post, like 3 heading level 2 or
something, press down arrow to get into the list, the press comma twice to skip
both the list and sublist, that’s with NVDA.

FS: iMac 27-inch 2011 (iMac 12,2) 3.4 GHz quad-core I7 Sandy Bridge, 16 GB RAM 256GB SSD + 2TB HDD for £930 or Best Offer

2015-06-18 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Hi all, but especially to those in the UK looking for a bargain Mac. I hope
nobody will mind this listing on here, but I’d really like to find a new home
for this beauty ASAP.

I’m consolidating all my Apple hardware and selling off the excess.
Accordingly, I am selling an iMac 27-inch mid-2011 in very good condition.
It’s a top-spec model, at the time meaning a 3.4 GHz quad-core Sandy Bridge I7
with 16 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD and 2 TB HDD. The model number is iMac 12,2.
I will take the best offer at or above £930 including postage.

A remote will be included, but not a keyboard or trackpad/mouse, unless we
negotiate otherwise (in which case I will charge you extra for the new
purchases, which you could otherwise make yourself). In addition to the
computer, of course, you will also get the form-fitting power lead.

This machine is notable for being the very last iMac that includes an optical
drive and infrared sensor. It also has the virtue of running any OS X release
from Snow Leopard upwards including Yosemite and El Capitan when it is
released. Besides that, it is among the machines that have the two dedicated
audio sockets for input and digital output, 4 USB 2, gigabit Ethernet,
single-band 802.11A/B/G/N, 2 Thunderbolt 1 or mini DisplayPort, SD-XC, and
FireWire 800.

The primary disadvantages are the lack of Bluetooth 4.0 (which means you can’t
use “handoff” of apps) and included USB 2.0. This latter problem can in fact
be solved using Thunderbolt to USB 3 adaptors or multi-interface products; the
machine has two Thunderbolt 1 ports which you can either convert into USB 3 or
connect to a dock or drive that also supports Thunderbolt.

Please let me know by email if you are interested, and I’ll be happy to follow
up if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Sabahattin

Fusion and Windows 8.1

2015-06-18 Thread Marshall Scott
Hi Folks,
I'm about to take the plunge and install Windows 8.1 into a virtual machine.
Since I've never done a Windows 8.1 install before I have three questions.
1. Can this installation be done without sighted help?
2. Are there any gotchas in the installation process?
3. How do I turn on Narrator after the installation is complete?

Thanks

Re: Fusion and Windows 8.1

2015-06-18 Thread Matthew Dierckens
Hi Marshall,
I unfortunately can't answer your second question, but I can answer the first.
You can install the windows machine in VMWare Fusion with no sighted assistance
required. It will walk you through the setup process, and then it will take a
while, maybe about half to an hour to complete. Then you should hear the
startup music.
I have only used windows 7 when I used windows, so unfortunately I cannot give
you instructions on how to do the other two.
God bless.

Re: Fusion and Windows 8.1

2015-06-18 Thread Grant
Hi Marshall, congratulations on taking the plunge! The installation using
VMWare's "easy install" method can be done without sighted help. VMWare asks
all the relevant questions up front, then automates the Windows setup. In
Windows 8.1, you don't have a startup sound by default. However, about 15 to 20
minutes after you begin the install you can turn on Narrator by pressing
COMMAND+ENTER. By default the COMMAND KEY acts as a Windows key, so you are
pressing WINDOWS+ENTER.

Cheers,

Grant

Windows 8 VM and external sound card

2015-06-18 Thread Shaf
Apparently either windows 8 doesn't like USB sound cards, or it's a VM
conflict. Plugging in an external USB sound card to the VM renders all
sound useless regardless of volume settings in Windows 8. Tried

Anybody found a fix for this?

Re: Fusion and Windows 8.1

Since there is no guarantee that the user will be logged in automatically,
trying to open the run dialog might not work. WINDOWS+ENTER is guaranteed to
work unless something goes wrong, so it is the better option for starting
Narrator. Also, there should be no need to hit ENTER every few minutes once the
installation completes. It will carry on without prompting or user interaction,
again, unless something goes wrong.

I had to hit enter every 5 minutes or so. Sometimes dialogs pop up -
confirmed this with a sighted person.
Also, as long as you do not enter a password in the setup screen you
should be logged in automatically.

Re: Fusion and Windows 8.1

2015-06-18 Thread Grant
Hello,

Can you think of an example of one of these dialogs that popped up? I have
installed Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 with VMWare Fusion and I can absolutely confirm
that the installation is fully automated and no dialogs interupt it at any
point. This is by design, and is the reason the easy install feature exists.
There is one dialog box that appears after the e user logs in for the first
time telling them that VMWare has modified some settings in Windows to allow
sharing files, but by that point Narrator can be used to read the message. If
this isn't working for you, then you may have encountered a bug or other
unusual circumstance. In any event, pressing ENTER multiple times at random is
hardly ideal unless it is a last resort, because it means you are potentially
dismissing messages or selecting buttons without any knowledge of what you are
clicking on or what the message said.
WINDOWS+ENTER will toggle Narrator on or off under Windows 8 in practically any
circumstance, including at the login window, so it is definitely a keystroke
worth remembering.
