Re: Applescript to double click at voiceover cursor

2015-02-27 Thread Jürgen Fleger
A big thanks to Jonathan for this script. It helped me in two ways: Firstly I
can perform a „real“ double mouse click now. I experienced issues sometimes
using VO + Shift + Space twice under certain conditions. It sometimes simply
didn’t work and I had to switch off Trackpad Commander to perform a real mouse
click twice.
And secondly it allows to perform a right mouse click without switching
Trackpad Commander off either. As you might experienced yourself there’s no
reliable way anymore of performing a right mouse click using VoiceOver. At
least on my Mac it doesn’t work reliably. I modified the script just a little
bit so that I could perform this right click without pressing VO + CMD + FN +
F5 and then switching Trackpad Commander off and then CTRL + click on my
Trackpad. Too much manual work in my opinion if I use a Computer. So Jonathan
scripts make my life much easier now and maybe also for you. To delete a
template in Pages seems to work mor reliable as well.

Here’s the modified script for the right click:

use application "VoiceOver"
tell commander
perform command "move mouse pointer to voiceover cursor"
delay 1
end tell
output mouse summary
tell mouse cursor
click once with right button
end tell

Applescript challenge

2015-02-27 Thread David Griffith
I guess I should set this up as a project for myself but I know nothing
about Applescripts.

One of the really frustrating things for me is the lack of a page down
or up command which can work in Mail Messages. This means that in really
long text email messages, for example in a mail digest the only
navigation options are by line or to the top or bottom of the email.
Even a quick nav paragraph granularity will only deliver a single line
as there is a line break at the end of each line.

This makes navigating these digests tedious especially if they contain
lots of repeated previous messages contents in their threads.

I wonder how difficult it would be to set up a script which had the
affect of forcing the cursor to jump say 25 or 30 lines down or up,
thus emulating a page up or down command.

I have tried all the available VO navigation options in Numpad and
Keypad commander but none of them will work in Mail Messages so this
would be a genuinely useful script.

Re: Time Capsule on a u-verse router

2015-02-27 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Yeah, granted that you can work around it to get BTMM working, but it’s an
awful hack, and I’d really rather the AirPort does the routing anyway, because
it’s just a truckload better at it. It is one thing that cable puts a shine
on, because cable modems built to spec are generally trivial to put into a mode
where they don’t interfere with the Ethernet traffic, and AirPort is easily
compatible with that.

As for alternative modems, it looks like there are quite a few that support
EFM/PTM although you will have to go fishing. I can well imagine why this was
an attractive option for AT&T, but it definitely puts you—the consumer—at a
substantial disadvantage.

And finally, to the choice of technology: here in Blighty, the cable solution
is the faster, but bursty satellite with constrained upstream and time-shared
downlink; the VDSL (for which there are many different plans) is the slower,
but more reliable and ubiquitous. I happen to have a choice, and I choose
VDSL. My provider offers me native IPv6, I get to pick the VDSL bridge modem,
and because it’s all PTM, the provider just bridges Ethernet over which I can
do PPPoE from the router (a Linux box) of my choice. This gives everybody
involved complete freedom, although unfortunately does require that terminal
equipment support baby jumbo frames to handle a full Ethernet frame inside
PPPoE. Sadly, the PPPoE support in AirPort is more than a little bit naff
(in-band MSS clamping, no support for baby jumbo frames), so cable is really
the better option if you want the complete, Apple-polished experience (which I
highly recommend to those that want it).

Anyway, the point is: know your options. :)

when I get that sound that indicates a wrong or dead keystroke, and Fusion
doesn't seem to respond, I switch to full screen mode with command control F
and that usually shakes things up and gets things working again. Also,
sometimes I VO end (function+right arrow) and then hit tab a few times until my
VM screen reader (JAWS) responds.
Usually though, the best fix is to switch screen modes with command control F.
Whether it goes to full screen mode or single screen mode doesn’t matter to the
way the VM operates, but it gets the keystroke problem fixed.

Re: Gmail on macbook air

2015-02-27 Thread Alex Hall
1. In Mail, hit cmd-comma, choose the Accounts tab from the toolbar, and find
and activate the Add button.

2. You have a bunch of radio buttons, each a different account type. Choose
Gmail. I don't remember if that opens the next screen straight away, or if
there's a Continue button.

3. Once on the next screen, fill in the text fields. Remember that, if you use
two-step verification on your Gmail account, you'll need to create an
app-specific password on the Gmail website - your regular password won't do it.

4. That should be all you need to do. If you get errors, it's worth going to
the Gmail site, going to Settings > Forwarding and Pop/Imap, and double
checking that you have Imap enabled.

Re: Applescript challenge

2015-02-27 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
Well, there might be issues with Rich Text / HTML e-mails. But in general you
would want to use the text object of the current object. basically if you
change the text
I know that the Text object provides paragraph and sentence access, but I am
not sure about line numbers. If you bring up the library for the Mail app or
the Textedit application, then you should be able to find information about the
text object.

selection, this will move the keyboard cursor.

It gets a bit messy in the states as we have something called the
Digital Millenium Copyright Act or DMCA

which makes the mere breaking of encryption illegal and trumps "Fair
Use" laws. Whether that also trumps other media accessibility laws is
not clear to me.

Certainly the only way I can use the Kindle app on a Mac is via a fusion Window.

Whilst it is possible to break the DRM of Kindle Books and whilst a legal
defense for doing so may possibly be available for visually impaired people
under the 2003 Act I am not certain that it can be assumed to hold force
without some legal test. So active discussion of strategies for breaking DRM
on this list may not be appropriate. . The rights of visually impaired people
to breach DRM and copyright is linked to the lack of accessible delivery and on
other platforms at least Amazon has made available a number of accessible
alternative, and these are available on a Mac via boot camp or Fusion. Amazon
could conceivably cite these in justification of preserving the integrity of
their DRM. . I agree that the Mac OS should be a platform that accessibility

There are a number of commercial tools and there is nothing to stop you

Go bucket Preferences, and this time choose Composing in the toolbar. You can
set the default account to send from, or leave it ad automatic. In this mode,
the sending address is based on the receiving one. For instance, this message
will send from my iCloud account, since it belongs to my iCloud mailbox. If it
had come to my AppleVis email account, my reply would be sent from the Applevis

Youtube for Mac?

Is there a version of YouTube for the Mac? Basically what you won't have to go
to the website to listen/watch videos?

I use a program called Downie which converts Youtube and other video links into
video or audio files. I set it to convert to mp3 and listen at whatever speed I
want using VLC Media Player. The developer is always coming up with updates and
seems aware of accessibility concerns.

If there's a better program to do this, I'd be glad to hear suggestions and
instructions.

Thanks,

Re: Set Table name in Numbers

2015-02-27 Thread Barry Hadder
Hello Daniela.

Applescript is very easy to learn through just trial and error, but I have a
few resources that I’ll pass along that I think you and others may find helpful.
The first one is
http://macosxautomation.com/applescript/firsttutorial/index.html
.
I have not used that one, but I’ve heard good things about it. Also, the book
is available on the iBooks store.

I’ve used the language guide available from the help menu of the editor, but I
think that it is structured poorly and somewhat hard to use.

I also found this helpful:
https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/AppleScript/Conceptual/AppleScriptX/Concepts/work_with_as.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40001568-BABEBGCF

There is an example on that page that told me basically everything I needed to
know on how a script is written.

You can allso learn a lot from just looking at the scripts in /Library/Scripts.

Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Re: Applescript challenge

2015-02-27 Thread David Griffith
I do not routinely use trackpad commander but unless I am mistaken I
understand this command to be a command to read a page?
Actually the way I use my mac I normally sit about 10feet away from it
in an armchair with headphones and keyboard and never use a trackpad so
I will have to try it out by making a rare foray to my actual Mac.
However what I want to do is not read the page but navigate or jump down
25 or 30 lines without the tedium of reading all the repeated messages
in a Mail digest.

I guess I should set this up as a project for myself but I know nothing about
Applescripts.

One of the really frustrating things for me is the lack of a page down or up
command which can work in Mail Messages. This means that in really long text
email messages, for example in a mail digest the only navigation options are by
line or to the top or bottom of the email. Even a quick nav paragraph
granularity will only deliver a single line as there is a line break at the end
of each line.

This makes navigating these digests tedious especially if they contain lots of
repeated previous messages contents in their threads.

I wonder how difficult it would be to set up a script which had the affect of
forcing the cursor to jump say 25 or 30 lines down or up, thus emulating a
page up or down command.

I have tried all the available VO navigation options in Numpad and Keypad
commander but none of them will work in Mail Messages so this would be a
genuinely useful script.

Applescript basics

2015-02-27 Thread The Believer
I have tried to follow the various discussions about Applescript but
may have missed the answer. I do not plan to be a heavy Applescripter
but would be interested in a simple and basic giide for the use of
proper syntax, commands and so on as a reference.

Now that I have some of the Talking Dashboard scripts (thanks Alex)
working, I want to see what more I can do.

Re: Quick times audio output from the iPhone to the Mac is sped up

2015-02-27 Thread Piotr Machacz
I've noticed this too and something tells me it has something to do with
converting the data from pal to NTSC or the other way around. Pretty
much all the movies that are made in NTSC that then get released in
Europe, either on DVD or that air on TV are also sped up like this. At
least VoiceOver doesn't experience this...

semitones too high. Everything is pitched up one. Has anybody had this issue,
and if so, how did they fix it? Am I making sense? And it's even sped up on the
recording that comes out, not just when I Monitor through headphones

Hi:
Uverse and TC works great. I have only had 1 Internet outage in 3 years, and
that was due to an ice storm. I get 24MB download and 3MB upload. Works great.

emacs comes preloaded on the mac. You can run it within terminal. Emacs comes
with version 22, but you can update it to version 24 with macports.
