yeah. that’s what I decided to do. it’s going quite well. the new owner has a
windows pc but I don’t know if rtfs is even an option when using a Mac to
reformat. I think fat will do the trick though.

Disabling the Preview pain in Mail in the latest OS X release

2015-02-03 Thread Keith Hinton
Hi folks.
I can't figure out how to stop mail that I'm arrowing thorugh from
automatically being opened and marked as read.
I would like this behavior to be turned off.
when I asked another friend of mine who has worked with Mail longer than I
have, he said I coudl disable the preview pain, but that it was tricky to do.
He said I would have to find the vertical splitter next to the messages
column, and then route the mouse pointer to that splitter, and then click and
drag starte down with the trackpad.
Why I can't simply interact witht he splitter using VoiceOver from the
keyboard, I don't know.
I've tried to do as he instructed using the track pad, but when I released the
track pad and the mouse popped up, my focus landed in the finder completely and
I was booted out of hte mail window despite having routed the mouse pointer to
the splitter.
ANy ideas on what I did wrong?
If it helps, I am not used to using my Mac's track pad at all, and hardly even
use it.
I rely exclusively on VoiceOver keyboardcommands rather than the track pad
in most cases.
If it helps, I mpressed command option f5 to route the mouse to the splitter,
pressed the track pad somewhere near the top of the thing, dragged one finger
strate down to the end of the thing, let up, then got booted back in to the
finder.
So I wonder if I need to do something other htan that?
Do I need to hold down the otpion key as well?
I recall needing ot hold down the otpion key in addition to clicking on the
track pad when accessing the Dropbox menu, and without option things didn't
work properly with trackpad clicking.
So, I wonder if that's the only thing I'm doing wrong?
Or maybe my finger somehow found the finder?
VoiceOVer didn't tel me before letting off that I'd land there, that's just
where the click took me.
So there we go.
Am I missing something here?
And, which vertical splitter?
My firend wasn't too clear.
There are two vertical splitters next to the messages column control in Mail,
to either side of it.
One on the left and one on the right.
Which controls the preview pain, I'm not sure.
Thanks for any suggestions on how to accomplish this dragging task.
I've never really understood what the vertical splitter controls visually do.
Seeing that I'm totally blind I know that's a bit silly to maybe ask, but I'm
curious visually what those controls do.?
Thanks.

Re: Disabling the Preview pain in Mail in the latest OS X release

2015-02-03 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Keith,

Here’s how to disable the preview pane.

Put Mail into classic view by opening Mail preferences (Cmd-Comma) and
selecting Viewing in the toolbar then checking the Use classic layout check box.
Close Mail preferences and navigate to the messages table.
Do not interact with the messages table but press VO-Down Arrow.
You should be on a horizontal splitter.
Make sure the Trackpad commander is off.
Bring the mouse.
Press down on the bottom edge of the trackpad with one finger, and use another
finger to stroke the trackpad toward you.
There should be nothing below the horizontal splitter the next time you press
VO-Down Arrow.

Sometimes it takes several attempts to get it right.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi all.
somebody here in the list, mounths ago sent to me a Terminal command to
disable in a safety way, the mail preview panel, but I can't find it.
I think this will be better and quicker than playing with the vertical
splitter control.

Maybe it was Sabathine, to tell it to me.

Re: Downcast for OSX

2015-02-03 Thread Erik Heil
Hello guys
Well, thanks for all the help. I am now successfully playing podcast using
downcast on my Mac. Command shift S keyboard combination did the trick. Now,
how do you access context may be used within OS X? It seems like you may have
to do that in order to subscribe to a podcast on the Mac using downcast. If
this is a problem however, I could always subscribe toThe podcast using the iOS
version of the application, which is not a problem. Again, thanks so much.

Navigation problems with braille display.

2015-02-03 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
I have an Papenmeier EL 40S braille display connected to my mac but have
significant problems navigating with it.
For example when i read a mail i first press voiceover + j and then starts to
read but it seems that the display is bypassing or skips lines which is
readable.
I can read them when jumping backwards but not forwards.
I have tried pressing cmd o to open the mail but this doesn't help much.
I can not find any settings in the braille section of the voiceover utilities
that might help me out.
Maybe its just me thats the problem.
I am so used to that things just works under windows and Linux but for some
reason the lack of braille support is still one of the things that makes me not
use my mac all the time.
I don't know how many times i've written to the accesibility team about this.
But i wont give up because braille is important.

LibreOffice 4.4.0

2015-02-03 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Downloaded and installed this new version. While I could type text into
a document there were lots of things that caused voiceover to crash and
restart repeatedly. For example, navigating the toolbar seemed to throw
VO over a cliff. I also tried to insert a table (command-F12) which pops
a modal dialog for the title, number of columns and rows etc. Voiceover
crashed over and over and only stopped when I managed to get an escape
key in to cancel the modal. Too bad as navigation of the wordprocessing
text entry stuff was actually working fairly well.

Hi Mike. Great to see you finally upgrade to Yosemite. Yeah, I wouldn't have
flash player on here either but I watch a lot of live TV online and I
haven't found a website that doesn't use flash. I don't have cable so this
is the only way I'm able to watch TV. I'd still like to know of a website
that streams live TV without flash.

This slightly less responsiveness, does the age of the Mac make a difference?
I have a Macbook Air Summer 2011, I’m running Mavericks with no noticeable

Google Drive icon in Extras Menu

2015-02-03 Thread Jeff Bishop
Hello,

Has anyone found the magic trick to get the menubar icon to work for Google
Drive? It seemingly won't come up for me and I haven't figured out why.

Hi,

If you haven’t totally completed the Google Drive setup process, the menu is
usually unavailable. Otherwise, it should work just like any other extras menu.

See, that is the thing. It is syncing just fine. I can not VO plus space on the
icon though. Well, I can but it does nothing and also routing the mouse pointer
to it, turning off VO and clicking doesn’t bring it up. Very srange.

looking for an app for medical coding

2015-02-03 Thread Juliette Swiler
So I found an application for the Mac that is accessible with VoiceOver for
looking up ICD-9 diagnosis and procedure codes. But I am trying to find
something that I could get CPT or HCPCS codes. Any ideas? Thanks. If I have to,
I did find an accessible app for the iPhone that I can use.

upgrading?

2015-02-03 Thread Regina Alvarado
Hi all,
I do not post much, but I think I am ready to move from Maverick to Yosemity.
Is it stable enough now? Can I get either pointed to a detailed step-by-step
how-to on the internet or can someone give me one? I think I can upgrade to the
latest iTunes.

I thought I could not upgrade because I needed 4 gigs, but my brother told me
that is RAM not what is on my hard drive. If I do the upgrade and do not have
enough space will it tell me so I can go right back to Mavericks? I have a Mac
Mini.

open windows and folders

2015-02-03 Thread Lorie McCloud
when I open folders in order to copy files from 1 place to another, windows
remain open for every part of the path. I discovered this when I was cycling
through windows to get to the place where I wanted to paste the files. is there
anything I can do to change this behavior? I’d like to be able to pop back and
forth between the source place and the destination place without all that other
stuff in-between. closing the window seems to help rather than command-up-arrow
to close the folder but I can’t do that until I’m finished with my procedure.

Thanks.
Lorie

Re: open windows and folders

2015-02-03 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi Lorrie
I think I understand what you’re saying, but I close windows all the time
before I finish the copying process. It works fine for me. So like when I do
command c to copy, a lot of times I press command w and then later press
command v to paste. It works anyway even though I have pressed command w for
closing the window. I suspect there is a way to control things by going to
Preferences in Finder with command comma, but I haven’t explored that.
