Re: MS Office accessibility on the Mac. Advocacy!

2014-05-23 Thread Kliphton -------
That is all fine and good. But it is more than accessibility. Even the sited
community says that the office suite for the mac is clunky, and not very user
friendly. So trust me if it were an accessibility thing, the suite wouldn't
need an update.

more type 2 phone issues

2014-05-23 Thread Rhonda Hornbacher
Hi Mac Friends,

Still having issues using type 2 phone and hoping some can help me figure this
out.

I opened type 2 phone and as suggested turned off voice over on my Mac.
Quicknav was on. For a brief few seconds I was able to arrow around my iPhone's
home screen. When I opened an pp on my phone it did not insert anything I
typed. I had the edit field available for content to be input.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for all of your helpful suggestions and have a super day.

You can go to System Preferences in the Apple menu, then choose users and
groups. Find your brother's account in the 'users, groups and login options"
list. If you're an administrator, at this point, you can stop interacting with
this list and press VO-end to navigate all the way down to the "click the lock
to make changes" control. This is where you'll find out if you're an
administrator, because you'll have to press this button, then enter your
account password to make changes. Then the "delete user" button should be
available.

They are hints, like when VO says "to enter text in this edit field, type" or
other hints about what to do. Mavericks introduced a cool new feature that
tells you basic information about any image it is focused on. If you don't like
these hints, you'll need to disable them in the verbosity settings in the VO
utility, but it is all or none; you can't turn off hints for images only.

1. Type2Phone is very economical.
2. You can copy and paste from your mac to your iPhone, which has really been
handy for me.

The mid 2013 Airs are the latest available.
There is no 2014 model.

Correction, there is a 2014 model. Just released, very slight processor boost.
Nothing significant.

Re: strange messages

2014-05-23 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

You can turn this off in the VoiceOver Utility. Press VO-f8 to open the VO
Utility, cmd-2 open the Speech pane, VO-space on the "Hints" tab then change
the setting for what VO does when it encounters an item with a Help tag. If it
is set to "Do Nothing", this will not be announced. You will then just need to
press VO-shift-h to determine the Help tag for any given object that possesses
a Help tag.

HTH.

I am happy that I am not alone with this problem. I can not get rumola set up

It would be nice if we could use web visum and firefox on the mac, but firefox

Update on my Focus 14

2014-05-23 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys
At the suggestion of a Christal Vision representative, I went for that Genius
Bar appointment today. Lo and behold, we got it to pair, twice. It wasn't easy,
and I wouldn't have got it done by myself. He had to tell me when to press
enter. It failed several times, but now I am writing on the thing with my Mac.
I am going to leave this baby paired, too. I am hoping that I can go back and
forth between the two braille displays, but I'm almost afraid to do it because
it might mess this one up. Right now I need this one to work on the computer so
I cuse the other one to read files at the same time.

Accessibility is a lot of fun, right! I am sure the poor folks at Apple think
so too right now.

Oh, I forgot to say. I am going to keep the display now. It likes my iPhone
still better than my Mac. I think I am going to use Pages now so that I can use
the iPhone for my reports if I want. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much
better the IOS version of Pages is these days. It works pretty good with
VoiceOver now.

Regards,
Gigi

Problems with panels and windows in the new finder

2014-05-23 Thread Sauro Cesaretti
Hello all,
A week ago I updated my macbook ari to mavericks.
I'm experiencing a problem with the folders in finder.
In particular, before I was able to open several folders in different windows
and with command+w I could close them one by one keeping the history of all the
opened windows.
Now, If I activate or disactivate the option to open the folder in a new panel,
I cannot reproduce the same behaviour.
Could you suggest me something to solve this problem?
Thank you very much in advance
regards,Sauro

I only set it up a few weeks ago, about the last time this discussion came up.
I had no problems setting it up, no problems using it, and I also don't want to
discount anyone's problems, but there should be a way to get through this
because you oat definitely can. Would be helpful to know what has gone wrong
maybe.
I didn't do it for a long time because I was concerned about what they have
access too, but someone pointed out that if your'e really concerned you should
probably get off the net and live in a cave. So I went ahead, and it works
great. I have it on my PC and the Mac.
And I'm sure what funds it are spammers. It's not for blind people. It's really
for anyone who wants to solve CATCHA without much work. That's mostly spammers
honestly.
When I do need to solve one I don't have time to wait for hours while some
friend gets around to looking at their email. Not to mention that the site will
probably time out by then.

2014-05-23 Thread Pamela Francis
Hi folks,
Can someone please give me the keystrokes on my Mac to take a screenshot of a
webpage in order to insert it into an email? Would appreciate any help. I'm
going round and round with the company that I believe has committed fraudulent
advertising. I want to show them a screenshot of their website within the body
of my email.

Re: Screenshots

2014-05-23 Thread Alex Hall
Google told me a way to only capture the active window. Note that I haven't
confirmed with a sighted person that this works, but it should.

1. Open the window of which you want a screenshot. This will capture only that
window, not *everything* on your screen.
2. Press cmd-shift-4, then the spacebar. No other keys are held down with space.
3. Move the mouse to the window you want. I just started with the window
already opened, then used vo-cmd-f5 to route the mouse there after pressing
space.
4. Click the mouse (vo-shift-space) and the screenshot will appear on your
desktop, labeled as the date and time it was taken.

Hi!
A suggestion that was made [A while ago] was if your worried about what someone
might see at the other end, and you've got the time and not in a rush!
If you know or find out you need a capture solved before filling in any
personal stuff send the capture off to be solved and while your waiting [I do
not know how long it takes] you can start filling in your info!
So the only stuff they see is the capture!

Yes, and you can also disable Rumola quite easily for the site you're on if
you're concerned about something in particular. It solves then really fast
usually. You could even disable it until you are needing it, but I don't do
that.

Re: Problems with panels and windows in the new finder

2014-05-23 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
There are piles of discussion about this in various forums but the short
version is Apple decided to take that feature away. There are folks
madly hacking around to try and figure out a way to get it back but I
wasn't really interested in adding somebody's experimental plugin just
to restore the feature. The closest I could find was to go into finder
preferences and turn off "Open folders in tabs instead of new windows"
in the General section and then in my Macintosh HD window I have to hide
the toolbar with command-option-T. After that, with the toolbar gone,
opening a folder now pops in a new window as the Apple Human Interface
Guidelines intended it since the days of Lisa.

Could you suggest me something to solve this problem?

question about VM ware fusion and using windows on a mac book pro

2014-05-23 Thread Brent Harbolt
Hi all. I am using vm ware fusion and windows 7 on a mac book pro. My question
is this. When I am on the windows side and go to network, I can't seem to get
it to see other computers on my home network. If I am on the Mac side it sees
those computers fine. It is just when I am on the vm ware fusion windows side
when it doesn't see it. Is this a limitation to this program or do I need to do
something in order to get it to see my network? Thanks in advance.

Also, if you have keyboard commander enabled, and "use scripts to control
Voiceover", you can use right-option-x to take a screen-shot of the contents of
the VO cursor. this also attaches the screenshot to a new mail message, which
you can send to whichever recipient you wish.

RE: question about VM ware fusion and using windows on a mac book pro

2014-05-23 Thread Tristan
Hi Brent,

This is unfortunately the case. I cannot even see my "real" local IP by
running a 'ipconfig' command in the Windows command prompt. I believe this
is because a network card cannot be used by two OSes at once, in this case -
OS X and Windows. Instead, VMWare has their own virtual adapter which you
can see under the VMWare preferences -> devices and under Windows and
network.

A brief google search yielded no work-arounds, though I could be missing
something.

Hope this helps.

Subject: question about VM ware fusion and using windows on a mac book pro

Hi all. I am using vm ware fusion and windows 7 on a mac book pro. My
question is this. When I am on the windows side and go to network, I can't
seem to get it to see other computers on my home network. If I am on the Mac
side it sees those computers fine. It is just when I am on the vm ware
fusion windows side when it doesn't see it. Is this a limitation to this
program or do I need to do something in order to get it to see my network?
Thanks in advance.

Syncing Podcasts Between Mac Mini and iPod?

2014-05-23 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, guys,

I've been slow in getting around to this. I just downloaded Podcasts for iOS.
I'm wondering if there's a way to sync Podcasts? I already subscribe to several
in iTunes on my Mac. I assumed they'd be stored in iCloud, or their data might
be, but I see none in the Podcasts app on my iPod.

thanks,
Teresa

Thanks everyone,
I'm wondering, if there is a way for me to copy the screenshot into the body of
the email versus sending in attachment since I don't know whether or not the
server to whom I am sending will handle a download. Some companies have
restrictions on downloads due to all of the crap that is floating around these
