Google told me a way to only capture the active window. Note that I haven't 
confirmed with a sighted person that this works, but it should.

1. Open the window of which you want a screenshot. This will capture only that 
window, not *everything* on your screen.
2. Press cmd-shift-4, then the spacebar. No other keys are held down with space.
3. Move the mouse to the window you want. I just started with the window 
already opened, then used vo-cmd-f5 to route the mouse there after pressing 
space.
4. Click the mouse (vo-shift-space) and the screenshot will appear on your 
desktop, labeled as the date and time it was taken.
