another pages question

2014-04-11 Thread Jim Gatteys
Hi all!
Another pages question. When I have written some text and check the position
it always says I am "one inches right and 0.2 inches down from top..." Is this
normal or should it be giving me the accurate line position?
Thanks,
Jim

Re: Printer showing off-line

How is your printer connected network, USB or wireless? It would help to know
what kind of printer and how you got the driver. Also, a line showing up
especially in the direction ofprinting is propabley you with the printer.e

Re: another pages question

2014-04-11 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Jim,

VO-F4-F4 misreports the insertion point. Please report this to Apple as several
of us have done already. The more of us who make a fuss, the more likely it is
that the problem will be rectified.

As you progress down the page, reporting of the position of the insertion point
is underestimated to an ever greater degree.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi,

Have you tried navigating into the text you wish to know attributes about, then
pressing VO-t. The VO-t command usually gives a set of relevant attributes
including text size, colour, style and alignment.

Re: Improvement with Adobe Flash 13 installer

2014-04-11 Thread Daniel Hawkins
Successfully installed mine! I was a bit confused a bit since I had a popup for
a update, that was not accessable.

Just do a google search for Adobe Flash 13 and you will be directed to a site,
there you pick what operating system and then click download.

Then you go to Finder and go to downloads, you will find Adobe Flash there.
open that and follow the directions. You will need to quit Safari to let the
install complete.

Re: pages questions

2014-04-11 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Tim,

The VO-t command doesn't help in identifying the position along the line.
VO-F4-F4, although giving wrong information, is nonetheless useful as you can
tell whether one part of the line is further away from another part than just
the width of one character. So, with Jim's problem, pressing VO-F4-F4 just to
the right of the last character of the lefthand part of the line, then doing it
again just after the tab, will show whether the righthand part of the line is
much further across the page than the lefthand part.

I wish more people would report the VO-F4-F4 problem to Apple as we've had
several updates to Pages since I reported it a few months ago.

Cheers,

Anne

 Hello Jim,

This was a hard nut to crack but here's how to sort out the alignment.

 * Type the text you want to have at the left then jump to the Formatter.
 * Select layout and interact with the scroll area.
 * Go down to Tab stops and expand it with VO-Space.
 * Click the Add tab stop button and interact with the table.
 * Bring the mouse to the field showing the position of the tab stop and
 Double-click using VO-Shift-Space.
 * Type in either 16 for centimeters or 4.5 for inches.
 * Interact with the field that says Alignment Left and bring the mouse.
 * Turn on Mouse keys.
 * Move the mouse right by pressing the letter o on a laptop or the 6 key
on an extended keyboard 52 times then click with the letter i or the 5.
 * Move the mouse down the way with either k or 2 until you hear Right then
 click with i or 5.
 * You should now turn Mouse keys off again.
Back in your document, navigate to the end of your line and press the Tab
 key.
 * You can now enter the second part of your line and the new text will be
 right aligned.

It took my husband and me over an hour to figure this one out and I need
 to report it to Apple.

 Cheers,

 Anne

other word processing options

2014-04-11 Thread Jim Gatteys
Hi all!
has anyone tried other word processing options such as Nisus Writer for the
mac? I was so spoiled with my word processor for windows but I now only have
an old xp machine that I no longer want to use. I've seen reference to Nisus
Writer and just wondered how easy it is to use and if it is accessible with
voiceover? I think pages is ok but not much more intuitive than msWord. Any
feedback would be appreciated.

Cannot find "options" button in Automator

2014-04-11 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I'm following the instructions on this website:
http://www.macworld.com/article/2139101/create-a-reminder-on-your-mac-in-an-instant.html

The idea is to have a box pop up that accepts your reminder's details, then
closes. Assign that to a keystroke and you have a super-fast way to add
reminders. The only problem is that I need to tell the "new reminder" action to
show when my workflow runs, and the site says to do that in the options.
However, there is no options button I can find. I've been through the entire
window, and even the menus, but there's nothing. I found the places to adjust
input and which applications this uses, but nothing at all about options for
the action itself. What am I missing? Thanks.

I use Pages for part of the writing process. Then switch documents to

I agree with Libre Office. I don't know much about office suite, but Libre
office is pretty good. And the latest update it is now accessable with
Voiceover. You don't need to install a bridge like in windows.

Re: Improvement with Adobe Flash 13 installer

2014-04-11 Thread Teresa Cochran
Go to System Preferences in the Apple Menu. When that dialog opens, choose
"flash player". You can choose your update options at this point. I had mine
set to install automatically. This isn't actually what happens. when it's set
to install automatically, there's an update dialog, and this is how I came up
with Flash 13. Anyhow, in the flashplayer preferences, there's also a "check
now" button. You'll get a message with the update status.

Just do a google search for Adobe Flash 13 and you will be directed to a
site, there you pick what operating system and then click download.

Then you go to Finder and go to downloads, you will find Adobe Flash
there. open that and follow the directions. You will need to quit Safari
 to let the install complete.

I interact as well. The thing is, there was no indication that the action could
be interacted with. Normally, something is a group, or scroll area, or some
other UI element. Still, at least now I know for future Automator use.

Re: other word processing options

2014-04-11 Thread April
It is a full set of applications. They a spreadsheet and drawing program
too, and a couple of more I haven't used. Compatible with Word and the
whole Office group of programs.

Re: other word processing options

2014-04-11 Thread Krister Ekstrom
I wouldn't call Libre office accessible or rather usable. Yes you can get at
all controls, but the same old showstopper that has been around for as long as
i have had the Mac and that's from about 2007 is still there, and that is:
Every new paragraph is treated as a separate edit box, making it impossible to
read long texts fluidly and selecting text across paragraphs is impossible
using VO commands as they are limited to the text box you are in.

1password accessibility with voiceover

2014-04-11 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Listers,

Could you share your experiences with 1password using voiceover? Is it fully
accessible? Also, one thing that worries me is what happens if 1password
should misfunction or one would have a computer crash? I am anxious that I
would feel out of control using 1password. I'd appreciate your experiences.

Please write off-line if you wish not to clutter the list.

Thank you

Andrew

Re: 1password accessibility with voiceover

2014-04-11 Thread Emilio
Andrew,

I will echo Keith's sentiments here.
OnePassword (OP) is a great program that I have used for a little over a
year now.
I have the application installed on my iMac and iPhone.
The developers are invested in insuring this program work well with
Voiceover. I have personally communicated with the development team
concerning Voiceover questions I have had in the past, and their response
and dedication are stellar.
A caveat From my experiences so far, is that passwords must be initially
generated from the iPhone app because when trying to generate one from the
app on the Mac, I am not able to interact with the password area and select
the criteria and length of my password. (This could all be something I am
not doing correctly, so anyone please feel free to correct me).
Generating passwords on the iPhone is great and when I am ever creating a
new account, OnePassword is at the ready. Furthermore, when accessing a
site's login area, I can just interact with the address bar and type "OP"
before the URL and after confirming this change, OnePassword will launch
and allow me to insert my unique password, which leads to another great
feature of OP, which is the integrated browser.
This is where I have all my passwords and program licenses stored. I have
the program synced in Dropbox, so there is always a copy available.
You mention your concern with problems. One thing i will say is that I have
not had any serious computer issues so far that have jeopardized my OP
repository. Just keep a backup elsewhere whether it be in another cloud
service or flash drive alternative, and you should be fine.

Hi,
the printer is connected by USB. It is a Canon iP5300.
OSX had the driver.

Dear Emilio and others,

Thank you for responding regarding 1password accessibility. It sounds very
encouraging. I will just have to find a way of learning how to use it.

Would an alternative to the tab stop method be just to create a table and have

Re: Styles context menu in pages - assigning shortcuts

2014-04-11 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Yes, the fact that they are called buttons was misleading, but the trick of
interacting with them is great. I, however, am able to just VO-space on the
menu buttons and they work fine--no need for routing mouse cursers or
simulating mouse clicks.
Best,
Nic
