Re: moving windows favorites to the mac
In many web browsers, you can export your favorites to an XML or hTML file and then import this to Safari. I've done this between various browsers, but not this specific process. You might do some searching around for exporting/importing bookmarks. Slow boot up?
Hi all my Macbook Pro 2012 model running Os X 10.9.2 is slow booting up. Once booted all is well. I'm thinking of doing a clean install as never done one since owning this mac nearly two years ago. So should I go ahead and do this? My processor is Core I5 and memory is 4 GB. Any responses greatly appreciated. Thanks! Re: moving windows favorites to the mac
There is a much simpler solution for this. On windows, you have the folder with the name of your computer. So mine says Kliphton. In this folder you have downloads, documents, an yes favorites. This is where your favorites folder can be copied from. Just enter the folder that has the name of your computer, find the favorites, control c to copy the folder, and then save it on your USB thumb drive or external drive which ever one you are using. This works, I have been doing it for almost 4 years. I have just gotten a MBP, but before that I was using a MacMini, and then a iMac. I still have to use windows for my business, so copying my favorites over was one of the thins I had to learn. database app for Mac
I'm looking for a database app for Mac that will import CSV files. and that is of course accessible with VO. Any suggestions? Right now on the windows machine I use Excel's "table" feature which used to be called "list". this allows a spreadsheet to be turned into a database with each row being a record. If there is such a feature in Numbers, that would be even better than a separate database program as I'm not doing major database type things, just moving and editing records. Re: moving windows favorites to the mac
Hi Don and all, I guess you can teach an old person new tricks. The reason why I will bring up my favorites through the run dialog box is to clean out unwanted or old favorites in the list before migrating them. I then just do a copy and paste into an external drigve of my choice. I rather take care of the clean up before migrating. I will tuck the other suggestions away for a rainy day. Thanks. Re: Braille Esge and Mac
Yes I know, I am new to the Mac and have been trying to wrap my mind around it, having used Windows for many years. I am done with the iPhone and the Edge, made a revised list that I think is current as I tested a lot of it. But the Mac is still new and I want to save myself any unnecessary learning if I can. This is why I have not tested the commands yet (as I did with the iPhone because I have had that a year). I tested the commands from both sources in VO help mode and got more unsure I can make that revised list yet. I found a list on Macfortheblind which is also a Word file, same one? If I was more familiar with the Mac, I could try all the listed commands and see which ones do work. Quote of the nanosecond . . . Re: login and keychain password
Tim, When I first got the Mac I dont recall settng the login password when I set the Mac up. So I reset it in Terminal. When I tried to work on this yesterday, I had 3 buttons to choose. Continue login. Create new keychain. Think the third also had to do with keychain. I have not been able to simply sit down and learn the Mac because things keep popping up in my way. So I will try again tonight. You think I should just login and reset the login again? I will try to do it and hope it works. Thanks. Quote of the nanosecond . . . They say a dog is man's best friend. Re: renaming tables in numbers
I recant my earlier post. Today I tried the exact same procedure to rename a table in numbers and all I could get it to do was to select the A column. It wouldn't enter the edit field on the name for love nor money. I'm just going to bypass the name thing and accept the default table names, using sheet/table name qualifiers to reference cells/ranges from different tables when necessary. Also, giving unique header names to cell ranges enables me to access ranges without qualifiers. Its a reasonable workaround, I can't be bothered getting frustrated with software anymore. Re: renaming tables in numbers
Phil, I've found that it is extremely difficult to rename Table 1. So, if I create a second table, rename it, then delete Table 1, I now have Table 1 renamed. Renaming subsequent tables is reasonably normal using the method outlined in the earlier post. This is only useful, though, if you are able to set up the tables ahead of time or if you copy and paste all data from Table 1 to your second table then delete Table 1. I hope this is making sense. One other thing to note is that you can easily change the name of a sheet by Interacting with the Sheet Navigator, then pressing VO-shift-m on the desired sheet to bring up its contextual menu, and then choosing Rename. Re: login and keychain password
Hi, If I'm understanding correctly, you'd like your computer to go directly to your Desktop without a Login screen. That's not a recommended behaviour because if your machine is stolen or accessed by someone else, they have easy access to all your personal files. Now, if that isn't a concern to you, then do the following: * go to the Apple menu and choose System Preferences. * Select Users & Groups. * Unlock the pane by pressing on the lock near the bottom of the pane, then enter your password. * Interact with the Users, Groups & Login Options List near the top of the pane. * navigate to the last item in that list, it should be Login Options. * Stop Interacting with the list then navigate right to the Automatic Login pop-up. * select which user you want to automatically login to on startup. * close System Prefs. That should do it. A few things to note though. If you have iCloud keychain turned on, this is definitely a bad idea as your saved passwords and such are more easily accessed by anyone who gains access to your machine. If you don't use that feature, then it's not such a big deal other than what I mentioned earlier. If the Automatic login pop-up is dimmed, then you did not unlock the pane yet. If this is the way you wish to have your computer configured, make sure that you still have a password set so that your Mac, at least, requires that Admin password for installations or modifications to the system. It will need to be a password that is easy for you to remember since you're not needing to enter it very often. HTH. Later... Re: login and keychain password
Tim, Valid points and I should consider that the Mac being a portable device, I ought to leave it in a secure state. I may have disabled VO somehow at login so if I turn it back on, logins will be easier and heck, can just leave the macnine running all day. Quote of the nanosecond . . . If the Automatic login pop-up is dimmed, then you did not unlock the pane yet. iPad drops contact with shared library
Hello, our iPad Air plays music happily for a time then just stops. It appears to loose contact with our shared library. If we restart the iPad we then can play music for a time. The iPad connects wirelessly to our network. The router I have was purchased in 2007. I am wondering if the router is dropping the contact. Any help on this one would be appreciated. Thanks for any advice. Max -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group.
