 Hi,

I'd like to introduce a small product our company makes for iOS VoiceOver
and Android TalkBack users. It's called RiVO. We have seen blind people
use their smartphones quite well with RiVO. I'm trying my best to make
people know about the availability of this product.

RiVO is a revolutionary keyboard-like remote originally made for Apple iOS
VoiceOver users. The name stands for Remote interface to VoiceOver. Being
about the size of a credit card, it is highly portable and yet comfortable
with big keys. There are 12 keys in the middle just like telephone keypad,
and there are 4 additional keys on the left and on the right, respectively.

VoiceOver is an innovative technology from Apple and you can enjoy it like
a breeze with RiVO. You can also type and edit text fast and easy, control
music simple and handy. These features surely make RiVO users to use a
greater number of apps easily every day compared to VoiceOver users
without RiVO. RiVO supports iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Android TalkBack
is another innovative technology from Google, and Android version of RiVO
 is also available.

Let me list some naive comments from RiVO users around the world:
 - RiVO is the most accurate and efficient tool for the blind to use
 smartphone.
 - I have 275 apps on my iPhone and RiVO is really valuable and helpful.
 - Alphabet typing becomes extremely fast with RiVO.
 - RiVO is a must-have accessory that many blind people will appreciate.
 - I have RiVO with me all the time.
 - Getting beyond different levels of the gestures are extremely faster
 with this keypad.
 - RIVO's smallQWERTY is superior to the old method of alphabet entry.
 - I use iPhone and RiVO every day, all day long.
 - RiVO is an indispensable accessory to the blind.
 - RiVO enables me use my iPhone precisely and quickly while on the move.
 - RiVO makes me use my iPhone without having to be conscious of the
 surroundings with my gesture actions.
 - RiVO gives me the convenience and freedom to use iPhone just like those
 who can see.
 - We really love this wonderful keyboard that you guys have made usable
 for us!
 - I love my RiVO! I keep it in my pocket all the time.
 - I am very happy with the keyboard's performance on both of iOS and
 Android platforms.
 - RiVO can provide relief to many users who are struggling with touchpad
 interface.
 - We were working with a customer who is blind, can only use one hand, and
has cognitive disabilities. RiVO gave him better access than he had ever
had before to a desktop or iOS device.
 - RiVO will become a true part of my iPhone experience, and will make the
iPhone so much easier to use. You have brought a wonderful device into our
 lives

Accessible Lync Conference Software for the Mac?

2014-02-15 Thread Mike Busboom
Hi.

I have been asked to collaborate with some software developers in the US on a
project. They asked me if a Lync conference would be possible since they need
to have visual, as well as audio communication. Since Lync is a microsoft
product, as is Skype, there may be a cross-program solution, of which I am not
aware.

Skype is extremely accessible on the Mac and I may suggest to them that we go
with Skype. However, if this isn't possible at their end for some reason, how
can I still make the conference happen using my Mac? Is Lync even accessible
on the Mac, provided it exists on that platform?

Many thanks,

Mike

Hey Scott
It is in system preferences, users and groups, and then there is a table in
which I found at the bottom an area called login options. If you tab to the
right past the full name popup button you can find Use VoiceOver in the login
window check box
And remember to do the click the lock to make changes as Chris recommended.
Good luck,

Hi,
The real value of this unit would be when one is traveling on foot in
sub freezing temps and you do not want to have your hands working your
GPS on a touch screen
This thing could just be run while your hand remains in your coat pocket.

Also, keep in mind the size. It really is the size of a credit card. I
checked. It's only a very tiny bit thicker than the iPhone 5S, hardly
enough to even notice. So it's *very* small, and unfortunately, no one's
figured out how to modify the laws of physics yet.

My first reaction was also that 10 hours wasn't terribly long, but I,
for one, don't think i'd type on *anything* for 10 continuous hours.

Subject: Recommendations For BT Keyboard For Mac Air With Page Up/Down &
Home/End Keys

Hello All,

I am seeking recommendations for a BT keyboard for my Mac Air that has a
page up/down and home/end keys. I am concerned with the amount of use of the
VO keys, command key, and FN key combinations with the arrow keys that in
the future they will wear out. It would be nice to have full navigation with
Page Up/Down and navigation with the Home/End keys, as one has on a full
keyboard on the PC side. I do a tremendous amount of word processing and I
need to edit my work before sending in the final copy to my job site.
Recently, the Logitech 760 information has been posted to this list, but I
could not ascertain if there were the keys listed above on this keyboard.
Any assistance in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Eileen Î

This will put you into an interface that will allow you to reset your
account password. It's important to note that once you do this and
restart the computer, you will be asked if you want to sync your keychain

From the Utility menu, you will find an option for, Terminal. VO-space on
that and type,

resetpassword

This will put you into an interface that will allow you to reset your account

From the Utility menu, you will find an option for, Terminal. VO-space on
that and type,

resetpassword
and hit enter.
This will put you into an interface that will allow you to reset your account

account password. Be sure to do this.

you give in a unit half its thickness. I have seen small bluetooth controllers
which are smaller than the size you state with better battery life, and they do
not break the laws of physics / current battery and power management
technology. The thing is, these technologies are more expensive, not going
against the laws of power dynamics.

Again, the device is not powering a speaker, visual display, braille display,
or speaker. It is only powering a bluetooth transceiver, basic keyboard
circuitry, and a couple LED lights (which use almost no power).

Compare this with my tiny bluetooth earpiece which has a mic, speaker, and a
dim LED light. It is big enough to cover my ear, which makes it significantly
smaller than a credit card, and it is just a little thicker than my iPhone 5.
It has a continuous battery life of 8.5 hours. So, no, I am not impressed with
the battery life in that unit, It could be better.

anyone will be writing "War And Peace" on the RiVO. I don't know what the
battery life would be for practical use, because I haven't actually run it down to
nothing yet (I charge it first).

Also, keep in mind the size. It really is the size of a credit card. I checked.
It's only a very tiny bit thicker than the iPhone 5S, hardly enough to even
notice. So it's *very* small, and unfortunately, no one's figured out how to
modify the laws of physics yet.

My first reaction was also that 10 hours wasn't terribly long, but I, for one,
don't think i'd type on *anything* for 10 continuous hours.

would expect it to be closer to the battery life one gets from bluetooth
keyboards, or at least the battery life from the better bluetooth braille
displays. Again, for the money, I find it difficult to accept that they did not
utilise better power management circuitry / firmware. After all, the device is
not powering a braille display or speaker.

I'm glad that Mobience is posting about this now.

I have one of these myself (thanks to Mobience), and, while the manual might

pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I met Jaewoo, the CEO of Mobience, in
December while at the dedication of the UN accessibility center, and I
expressed some skepticism of how easy this would be to use, given that its
default key layout is not ABC but rather a modified, though mostly, QWERTY. I'm
no speed demon with it, but I'm certainly faster with the RiVO than I am with
the on-screen keyboard.

Look for an interview with Jaewoo on an upcoming Serotalk podcast (either
Serotalk or Triple-Click Home, I expect), along with a brief demo of RiVO,
which I have to edit this weekend.

Re: An accessible text editor for programming

2014-02-15 Thread Vic
Hi,
I am a big fan of Textmate 2.0. I am specifically referring to this version
because it has been made to be very accessible with VoiceOver. While the
editor is still in alpha stage, it is very stable and, most importantly, is
free and open source.
Search the Internet for Textmate 2.0 and you should be able to find it on
Github. There is actually a developer whose main focus is acceaccessibility
for this editor.
I use it for anything from editing files of for various programming
languages to writing Markdown files.

Good luck.

Re: Help Using Time Machine To Recover Mail

2014-02-15 Thread Brian Fischler
Just wanted to say thanks to all those who were so helpful using Time Machine.
It took a little trial and error and some sighted assistance, but a day later I
got all my messages back. 9 years of saved stuff. So now the fun going through
all of it to pull out the important ones. Thanks again for the help.

Switching From Gmail to iCloud

2014-02-15 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey all,

With my latest disaster with gmail, and gmail having so many issues with
Mavericks and Google obviously not planning on improving the accessibility to
their web interface anytime soon, I am thinking about switching from gmail to
iCloud as I already have a me.com email but never use it. A few thoughts as I
know some of you have switched recently, and just want to see if there is
anything I am not thinking of.

Besides the obvious letting everyone know my email has switched and updating
list memberships and websites with my new email, does anyone know if there is a
way to change your Apple ID as my log in is my gmail user name.

I use mac mail and have created what I thought were folders in mac mail for all
saved messages, but now understand they are just labels. I had created these in
gmail and noticed I can easily just switch all these folders to iCloud. Is your
iCloud amount of storage for mail based on your iCloud plan? Is there a better
way to save important messages? Until now I have never had a problem. Does
iCloud have an all mail folder like gmail where I might run in to a problem of
stuff getting deleted? The strange thing is I did not delete any of the
messages I lost in all mail I deleted them from the server in sent mail and
since they were messages I had received and labeled you would have thought they
would have stayed in all mail since they were received and labeled, but for
some reason that was not the case.

Anything else I should be thinking about when switching mail providers? Thanks,

Re: Switching From Gmail to iCloud

2014-02-15 Thread Teresa Cochran
There's no charge for iCloud accounts. Also, you can use a different email
alias for your email address and not use the Gmail username with your mail. so
you can sign into Mail with your me.com address.

You might check out iCloud's webmail site. It's not completely accessible, but
many things can be done within your iCloud account in Mac Mail instead. the
only thing you'll really need to do on the website is set your filters if you
have devices other than the Mac. If you only have the Mac, it would be easier
to set your message rules up locally in Mac Mail.

here's the iCloud webmail site:

Hey Teresa,

Thanks. Ugh that sucks that I will need to use the site to control filters, and
if the creating the filters to sync across devices isn't accessible than that
might be a deal breaker for me. Will have to check it out thanks for this.

Searching in Mac Mail

2014-02-15 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey all,

Not sure if there is any way to do this. I did a search in mail to pull up all
emails from a sender, and found all the messages except the ones in a recovered
mailbox from Time Machine. For some reason search in mail won't recognize the
recovered mailbox. Is there any way to just search the recovered mailbox as
pulling up all emails from a specific sender so I can delete them all would
make my life so much easier rather than going one by one. Thanks

actually, setting filters is one of the most accessible things there. Just
don't try to add new mailboxes from the website. Best to do that in Mac Mail
within the iCloud folders.

Focus on the recovered mailbox in the list, and then try your search. also, you
could sort your messages by sender and group the messages that way.

strange ITunes issue

2014-02-15 Thread May
Good evening.

I have a strange ITunes problem and hopefully someone can help out.

If anyone is familiar with audio book converter great. I have that program and
before today it was working just fine. I just tried to convert a book which it
needs ITunes to do so. The problem is whenever it opens it it says ITunes needs
to be opened in 64 bit mode and I need to uncheck it from opening in 32 bit
mode.

Well, under get info for ITunes that box is not checked. Any ideas? I'm stuck.

serious problems burning iso to disk on mavericks

2014-02-15 Thread Anouk Radix
Hi everyone,
I wanted to experiment with bootcamp next to my mac os x so i wanted to burn a
windows iso to dvd in order to try it out.
I have an external dvd-drive that i have bought a few months ago and used
successfully to read a few dvds in the past.
I just bought some new dvdd and inserted one into the external drive. The mac
recognized the dvd and i told it to open finder.I went to disk utility opened
the relevant iso through option+cmd+o and selected burn from the files menu.
Then i get a message cannot burn disk because the disk drive is not available.
What might go wrong here?
I am really peeved because i can apparently read dvds with this one but cant
seem to write them.
I also tried burning the file just from the finder window but the seem result.
I also cant find where i can eject the disk on my macbook air 2013 since it
does not show up on finder when containing an empty disc.
Help would be appreciated since i need a bootable dvd (bootable flash wont
work).
Thanks in advance
Greetings, Anouk,

Installing Bootcamp On MBA: Any Tips For Success

2014-02-15 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello Everyone,

I have made the decision to use Bootcamp and need some expert advise. I have
listened to the podcast by Michael Hanson, Applevis editor. I do have some
questions that those who have done this procedure in the past can answer.

1. For the download for the Apple support software, can this install on my
external Window partition side or does it need to go on a thumb drive?
2. Of course I will do a Timemachine backup before starting the Bootcamp
installation. However, should I use a disk cloner software to backup the entire
OS to my external drive too?
3. I have a single disk copy of windows 8. Do I connect the optical drive
before starting the Bootcamp Assist program with the Windows 8 disk inserted?

I have been reading some different websites on the Internet but it's confusing
me more on how to go about getting Windows 8 on the MBA. I would appreciate any
specific advise and tips to utilize Bootcamp and get this up and running. I'm
not worried about installing Windows 8 because I have sighted assistance if
need be. There is also a tutorial on how to install Windows without sight on
applevis.

thanks for reading this somewhat long email and pointing me in the right
direction on how to be successful with this task.

Best,
Eileen

trying to install fusion

2014-02-15 Thread Shannon Gerdts

Hello everyone,
So I'm currently in the process of trying to install fusion on my wife's
laptop. However, after we told it to continue after putting in our license
key it just sits there saying fusion busy. Anyone know why this would be or
how we can find out what's going on so that we can finish getting it
installed and get to installing windows?

Take care,
Shannon Gerdts

Re: serious problems burning iso to disk on mavericks

2014-02-15 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello,

Even though I can't help you with this, I am in the same predicament, as I want
to install Bootcamp on my MBA with the OS of Mountain Lion. However, I will be
using a Windows 8 disk, so I may have different problems that will arise. I
wish you the best and hope you can resolve this issue.

Cheers,

Re: Navigating in Mountain Lion with VO

2014-02-15 Thread Robert C

Ok now that I am back home, I am going to tackle this again.

I dont recall setting a keychain password so this part confused me
today and I should not have rushed into resetting the login password.

So I need to understand this. What is the keychain for, and is it
the same thing as the iCloud keychain on the iPhone?

One of the options I saw earlier was to create a new keychain. I
take it that is what I want since I dont remember setting one before.

And hopefully, once I am done with this,, I can get to work. :)

With my latest disaster with gmail, and gmail having so many issues with

thoughts as I know some of you have switched recently, and just want to
see if there is anything I am not thinking of.

Besides the obvious letting everyone know my email has switched and
updating list memberships and websites with my new email, does anyone know
if there is a way to change your Apple ID as my log in is my gmail user
 name.

I use mac mail and have created what I thought were folders in mac mail
for all saved messages, but now understand they are just labels. I had
created these in gmail and noticed I can easily just switch all these
folders to iCloud. Is your iCloud amount of storage for mail based on your
iCloud plan? Is there a better way to save important messages? Until now I
have never had a problem. Does iCloud have an all mail folder like gmail
where I might run in to a problem of stuff getting deleted? The strange
thing is I did not delete any of the messages I lost in all mail I deleted
them from the server in sent mail and since they were messages I had
received and labeled you would have thought they would have stayed in all
mail since they were received and labeled, but for some reason that was
 not the case.

Anything else I should be thinking about when switching mail providers?
 Thanks,

It is usually something that the user has little interaction with as it
unlocks with their login password. Basically, it encrypts and keeps all of
your secure data in one place. Things like login passwords for your mail

Re: spl with fusion

2014-02-15 Thread Deb Lewis
I'm just beginning the process of getting sPL Studio to work in Fusion. I'm
pretty clear about what needs to happen but just have one question that might
make a difference.
I don't use Direct sound in windows so have to have a sound card for the
broadcast content. I want to buy a Soundblaster USB card for this purpose. The
ones I'm interested say they are only for windows not for mac. But if I'm only
using it in Fusion I am using it only in windows right? In other words, it
should be OK. I think the only issue will be whether or not Fusion recognizes
the card. It has been recognizing other USB things so I'm going. But any
thoughts would be welcome.
What if anything am I missing here?

Hmm, then I must be doing something wrong or jaws doesn't like the usb
 headset.

Whenever I tell jaws to switch to the headset it dies.

Any suggestions? I've tried all I can think of and I'm lost.

Re: serious problems burning iso to disk on mavericks

2014-02-15 Thread Joseph Norton
Hi:

The trick to this is not to open finder. When you insert the blank DVD,
instead of selecting to open Finder, you should select the option to open Disk
Utility.

Then, when Disk utility opens, select the Burn option from the tool bar,
navigate to the .iso image and then it will let you burn it.

When you selected the "open Finder' option, it assumes you want to copy files
to a burn folder which you will burn to a DVD. This is not what you want if
you are working with a .iso or other image file.

Hope this helps.

Re: serious problems burning iso to disk on mavericks

2014-02-15 Thread Joseph Norton
Hi:

Let me also add one thing.

I have read that, the slower the burn speed, the better. My own experience
seems to confirm this. I'd rather wait a few mins longer and have a more
readable disc.

Thanks!
