fusion question
I’ve recently moved to a mac from windows and don’t regret the change at all. However, there are a few windows apps I’d still like to run, so I will probably go with Fusion 6., especially since no sighted assistance is required to install. I still have my old pc running windows 7 and would like to use the fusion migrating assistant to get windows onto the machine. Before I start I’d like to know if there are any issues using the assistant and also if it’s possible to run it without sighted assistance. Many thanks, Don -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: What do all of you guys think of this?
Hi Tim, all. I subscribe to a weekly newsletter from about.com specifically focused on the mac and ios. what I read is that absolutely everyone has concerns serious security concerns about this use of icloud. Particularly noted in maverick is the Keychain, which fortunately has to be turned on. Still it gives a fine example of just how easy the risks can be. you are given a 4 digit number for the security, and there are only 1000 possible combinations making it practically effortless for someone to reach your passwords credit card information, documents contacts, and anything else you use icloud for. I still remember the senior writer with wired magazine who got hacked and all of his family photos and personal data wiped because someone on twitter liked his handle and could do it for kicks. I respect that the Internet is basically cheese cloth in general, but one should have a choice. More and more places like amazon are taking the force into icloud approach because everyone is doing it. Individuals should be able to protect and store their information as they prefer, not as a trend dictates in my view. Add that if you use facebook, your contacts are lifted when they make a shadow profile on you, including people not on facebook at all. just my take, By the way, the mac newsletter of Tom Nelson is rather informative actually. apple general I mean. Hi Ray. Another thing that I noticed yesterday, is that when I hijack audio from safari using the instant on extra, the voice over sounds stop working. They don’t work even if I stop recording and hijacking audio. The only way to get my VO sounds back afterwards, is to turn voice over off and on. Hi, You don’t have to sync your contacts via iCloud. You don’t even need to log into iCloud if you don’t want to. This article in my opinion, seems to be pointing out concerns for people running servers, for small business, etc. I’m not saying the concerns aren’t valid, but they really only apply to a small percentage of Mac users. Re: What do all of you guys think of this?
Hi, Yes Ricardo, you are correct that the iCloud Keychain service is off by default. A couple further notes, in order to get at these passwords, the person would have to first either get past your computer password, your Apple ID password on the iCloud site or past your iDevice passcode. It is, of course, possible that a user could have their computer or iDevice not secured properly either thus giving easier access to the Keychain. The Keychain is encrypted so is not necessarily easy to crack even if you figure out the passcode. There is, though, the possibility of simply trying some web-sites from the users history to see if they’ve are a part of your saved passwords. Some proper security protocols should certainly virtually eliminate this threat. I am a very trusting person though and may be considered naive, so don’t take my opinions as gospel. Re: What do all of you guys think of this?
In the most recent updates, it’s necessary to use the cloud to sync contacts. However, you could enter your contacts manually on each device, or you could simply not upgrade. Also, it’s possible to use operating systems that don’t rely on cloud computing as much as apple, such as linux or android, or even Windows., though I believe microsoft has exchange servers for online syncing. Wow! I purchased a “Last year’s over stock” MBP from the Apple store for only $50 more than that. So, maybe I’m way off base here, but that seems a wee bit high. Apex + Iphone 4S
Dear List, I’ve recently acquired an Apex and wanted to pair it with my iPhone 4S running iOS 6.0.1. I’ve tried to pair the phone with the apex through the general/accessibility/braille menu on the phone. Every time I try to pair it, I get a message that says “iPhone could not load driver for Apex”. For kicks and giggles, I tried pairing the two through the Apex’s bluetooth menu and after entering an authentication code on the apex, my phone prompted me to do the same and both devices were paired. I did so under the hands free menu on the Apex. It says that the device is paired and active. I know that I can’t use the braille display like this and to do so I’ll need to start the pairing from the phone. Any pointers on this? Where do I get the driver it needs? Thanks a million! Re: audio hijack pro success.
That doesn't happen to me either. My sounds have always been and still are working when I hijack safari. With Mavericks, you definitely have to use instant on to do hijacking of safari and at this point this requires the beta; you probably already know this since one gets a message about this at some point when opening audio hijack pro if the beta isn't being used. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Re: What do all of you guys think of this?
Hi, right. And I wouldn’t even say Android. Google services are very much cloud dependent. New Game Help
Hi All, Yesterday Playdek came out with Lords of Waterdeep a DND based board game for IOS. Unfortunately they made it in a way that doesn't seem to work with VO. I blog about it here. http://blog.blinddragonhobbies.com/boardgames/can-i-play/ If you can help me by commenting on the blog. That way I can try to get the publisher to make changes to the game to make it accessible. Any fixes for bluetooth audio and Voiceover in Mavericks?
Hi all, A few weeks ago i was testing a bluetooth headset but had to send it back. During that time I saw the problem where Voiceover audio is lost when the headset is not found. I am getting ready to get some Aftershokz Bluez headphones and may sometimes wish to use them with my Mac. So, does anyone know if those audio problems were fixed in Mavericks, or will I still run into a complete lack of speech if I turn the headphones off or walk out of range? Thanks. Re: Safari default home page has changed.
Okay. I've tried all your suggestions. google was my default homepage under Preferences General. I reset it without luck. further, I chose to Hide Favorites Bar and that didn't change a thing. so, I'm stuck for ideas. Curiously, I've also noticed a bizarre new behavior when navigating this group. I can't read the subject lines of messages unless I interact with the text directly. that is, I interact with the HTMl content and I can move from message to message, I have enough vision to see the VO cursor surround the various text. but, upon seeing the VO cursor surround the subject line, I have to interact a second time to hear VO read it. This is very inefficient. Again, ideas? I'm now writing with VO turned off. So i hope this isn't a mess. thoughts? And then there's the iCloud website where you can actually search for your devices, activate their alarms and and wipe them etc. On 22 Jan 2013, at 2:46 PM, Alex Hall wrote: It should be built in. Re: Safari default home page has changed.
With respect to the top sites issue, Might I suggest that you go to Preferences/General in Safari and in the “new window opens with” pop up button menu, you choose the home page option? Did you try that? With respect to your e-mail issue, can’t help there. Sent from my Mac, the only computer with full accessibility for the blind built-in!
