Hi Donna!
I'm glad it is working for you again!
As far as removing all that stuff, it is just the way I like my ringtones just
the title!

Re: Blogging in wordpress.com with safari

2013-09-16 Thread Sean Paul
Heyya Phil, saw your earlier message but was waiting on someone else to
answer you if they would.
Here's an article which will tell you exactly how to make what you're
wanting to happen, happen. Was wondering why you'd want to purchase an
upgrade to wordpress dot com. It'd almost be cheaper in the longrun to
install wordpress on your own self hosted site. None the less, sounds as if
you've figured it out. So, here goes link to article. BTW, I have used this
method before & it does work. Nolonger do as I've moved to self hosted.

Well, I'm on my way to solving this problem on my own. Instead of placing
audio files on wordpress servers, it seems like a better idea to incorporate
a link to these files on dropbox from within my posts.
I checked out some other blogs from lists members, and that seems to be a
common method, and it saves the cost of a space upgrade on wordpress. I have
a pre-October 2012 dropbox account, so I have a public folder. The context
menu has the "copy public link" item and placing that link in a html link or
from the address bar in safari, IE10, and firefox cause it to play as I
wanted.
Now I just have to research creating links in posts using Marsedit - it'll
probably be a cakewalk.

Can you direct me to any information on the process, or tell me how it's

Just put them on a thumb stick, and copy them to it, then put them on your
computer. Otherwise, if there on his phone, then just create a photo
stream, and have them add the photos that way. Once he does, they will show

Re: How to share photos from iPhoto

2013-09-16 Thread Chris Blouch
Do you want to replace your iPhoto library with his? If so you can just
replace the /Users/YourAccountName/Pictures/iPhoto Library on your
machine with the one on his. As previously mentioned you can do this
through AirDrop, ThumbDrive, file sharing etc. My wife has the official
family iPhoto library on her machine and every now and then we fling a
copy from her machine to mine for safe keeping (in addition to time
machine backups). The automatic sync through iCloud makes this less
important than it used to be but videos still don't sync through iCloud.

Re: vm and super duper

2013-09-16 Thread Phil Halton
Wayne, superDuper will, as you know, make a clone copy of your Mac HD, which
includes your VMWare installation and all your VM's. Now, you can selectively
copy back any file off your superDuper created clone onto your system, and that
includes your windows VM. You simply open the clone whether it be a bootable
image or a sparse bundle doesn't matter, you just mount the image and browse
for the files you want.
As long as the new VMWare version is backward compatible with previous
versions, and I am sure that it is, you can copyback your .vmware file and
open it in fusion 6.
P.S. please verify anything I say before acting on it, this is just my best
guess.

Re: Blogging in wordpress.com with safari

2013-09-16 Thread Phil Halton
Hi Michael, Well, I tried the short code and just couldn't get it to work. this
is the code I entered into my post:

[audio
dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2281930/WordPress/podcasts/LooktelMoneyReader.mp3]

I use that same url as a link field from within the post and it works, but the
audio short code doesn't seem to want to go, at least, I don't find the audio
player anywhere in my post, neither do I get any error messages when uploading
the post containing the short code from Mars edit.
Is there supposed to be a space between the short code and the url? That's the
only possible error I can think of - the url is correct and I enclosed the
whole thing in brackets [].
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Facebook and new privacy policy

2013-09-16 Thread Christine Grassman
According to a friend's posting on Facebook, anyone in the world on Facebook
can now see posted photos, likes, or comments from anywhere in the world, and
this cannot be changed in the usual privacy settings. Instead, she says, one
must place the cursor over someone's photo without clicking, and a window
opens, and then one must move the cursor to friends, again without clicking,
and then to settings, and uncheck "life events" in "likes" and "comments". I
have no clue how this translates toVoiceOver users, nor do I know how to check
whether my friends on Facebook do this if I ask them to. Essentially, it seems
that any time photos are posted, and someone likes or comments upon them, they
are viewable by anyone on Facebook anywhere in the world.

Warning about Voice Dream Reader and iOS7

2013-09-16 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I know this is not an iOS list, but I also know many of us use iOS devices so I
thought I'd share this.

The developer of Voice Dream Reader just sent out a warning about iOS7 and his
app. VDR *will* break under iOS7, so do NOT update your iOS device if you use
this app. However, there will be an update, hopefully within a week, to address
the problems and get VDR compatible. Better still, the update will make all the
iOS high-quality voices Siri can use available for use as voices to read with
in VDR, for free. So, if you update iOS on Wednesday, you'll be waiting a few
days until you can use VDR again, but once VDR is updated you can use iOS7's
new enhanced voices to read your files.

Have a great day,
Alex (msg sent from Mac Mini)

Re: Blogging in wordpress.com with safari

2013-09-16 Thread Sean Paul
I'm not sure what's going on there. I understand that you have an older drop
box account which has a public folder. However, I've been given to
understand that they're blocking this sort of file on any user account. I'd
suggest trying it with another audio link if you have one to see if that
solves the problem. If not, then we can go from there in trying to figure
out what is going on. Also, give me a link to your direct post so I can see
if I see an audio player on my end as I won't be logged in. Also, this is
probably something we should best handle off list going forward so feel free
to contact me.

This is a hoax. This process stops you from seeing other people's public post,

Folks,
First the articles explaining that facebook creates shadow

and now for the three facebook privacy settings you should
check...if you can.
Frankly if these things cannot be changed in an accessible way,
someone should start a fire, smiles.

getting to desktop with no items selected

2013-09-16 Thread Mary Otten
I know there is a way to do this, but I'm drawing a blank. When on the desktop,
how can I unselect the currently selected item without selecting a new one. For
example, I have an alias that I want to move from the folder where I creadet it
to the desktop, but I don't want to paste it on top of an existing item, but
rather, on to a blank space on my desktop.

Re: getting to desktop with no items selected

2013-09-16 Thread Teresa Cochran
You might try command-option-control space. This toggles the selection of an
item with vO. You may have to press it more than once to toggle the selection
off. Then you can try verifying the selected item with VO-f6. Don't move the
arrow keys until you want to select something.

Messages meant for the outbox sometimes going to the starred folder on iPhone in Gmail

2013-09-16 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
I have come across a case, and I have had a similar case happened many times
before, where a reply I sent to this list instead it seems to ended up in my
starred folder in Gmail on the iPhone. I am not sure whether the message made
the list as well, but I find it in my starred folder with no record of having
put it there.

In this instance, I am speaking specifically of a question I had regarding
ringtones on the iPhone 5. I do not know whether that message made the list, or
just was sent to my starred folder.

Does anyone have any ideas why some of my messages might be being filed in this
manner? (I apologize for asking the question here, except that Raul has yet to
approve my Gmail requests for AV iPhone list membership.)

Be well.

Wayne, superDuper will, as you know, make a clone copy of your Mac HD, which
includes your VMWare installation and all your VM's. Now, you can
selectively copy back any file off your superDuper created clone onto your
system, and that includes your windows VM. You simply open the clone whether
it be a bootable image or a sparse bundle doesn't matter, you just mount the
image and browse for the files you want.

As long as the new VMWare version is backward compatible with previous
versions, and I am sure that it is, you can copyback your .vmware file and
open it in fusion 6.

P.S. please verify anything I say before acting on it, this is just my best
guess.

Question About Perkins Mini Braille Display

I'm curious to know if any of you have used the Perkins Mini Braille Display

Re: Question About Perkins Mini Braille Display

2013-09-16 Thread Alex Hall
I haven't used it personally, but I did see it last year and got to try some of
its built-in functions. At the time, iOS didn't support it - it was only added
in the iOS6 update that came out a few months after I'd seen the display.

I found it very large, cheap-feeling, and clunky, especially for being a
14-cell display. The cells are recessed a good 3/4 to 1 inch below the rest of
the plastic casing, the ports fell like an afterthought, and the whole thing
just gave me a bad impression. For a 14-cell display, consider the Focus 14
from Freedom Scientific, or the Braille Pen (though that's just 12 cells and
lack cursor keys(). Yes, the Perkins Mini includes built-in functions, but for
that I'd much rather go with the Braille Edge from Hims (40 cells, so more
expensive, but I'm really hoping for a 20-cell version).

The above are just my thoughts, based on maybe ten minutes with the device. At
the least, though, really try to get a demo of the unit before you decide to
buy it, or check the return policy.

Re: Question About Perkins Mini Braille Display

2013-09-16 Thread Desi Noller
The one I'm talking about is definitely a 16-cell display. I wonder if you
actually saw something else? I sure do wish there were a way to see these
things before we buy though, and I certainly appreciate you taking the time to
write with your thoughts.

Re: Question About Perkins Mini Braille Display

2013-09-16 Thread Desi Noller
Hi David,

Thanks so much! I'm interested to know about the storage capacity, what types
of files it reads such as .txt, .brf, ETC. and how the book reader works.
It's perfectly fine if you wish to write me privately about this. I would
truly appreciate your thoughts!

Strange problem with dashboard.

2013-09-16 Thread Gerry Cook
Hi everyone! recently i opened the dashboard, and looked at the widgets in
their, however, when i closed them items in the dock were read out. I heard
that shouldn't be the case and, was told to have a genius bar appointment
however i want to try and fix this myself without going to the apple store if
possible. Has anyone had this problem before? I'd appreciate any feedback
because if i leave a widget in their it won't happen but if i close or remove
any of the widgets, the dock is read out. Thanks.
cheers gerry have a great day

Re: Infovox Lisa

2013-09-16 Thread BBS
Hi Traci. Yes, I also think Lisa is cool. I went ahead and bought her for the 4
voice credits it requires so I have her forever. I showed her to a friend and
we're both amazed at how well she emphasizes words if you put an exclamation
beside them. I think she does more words like that than the other English
voices. Have a good night or day wherever you are.
