Activating a Javascript on click Event with Voiceover

2013-06-02 Thread Jeff Berwick
Hi All,

I have forgotten, if I ever knew, how to activate a clickable object on a web
page using Voiceover. Would somebody be so kind as to enlighten me?

Tia,
Jeff

Re: Activating a Javascript on click Event with Voiceover

2013-06-02 Thread Alex Hall
If vo-space doesn't work, use the mouse. While vo is on the object, press
vo-cmd-f5 to put the mouse pointer on the object, then physically click the
mouse. If you don't have a mouse, press vo-shift-space to simulate a click.

Re: Problem hanging up my iPhone

2013-06-02 Thread Kevin Shaw
Do you have your iPhone in a case?

I bought an inexpensive case for my 4S and I didn't have this problem until I
switched cases. When I put the phone next to my head, the screen doesn't
automatically turn off and VO announces the call length every few seconds.

I'm wondering if something is affecting the phone's accelerometer or proximity
sensor to automatically to turn off the screen and VO.

With both cases, VO would do the same thing on speaker phone, but I figured the
screen wasn't turning off because it wasn't next to my head.

Re: the Calculator app?

2013-06-02 Thread Barry Hadder
Hey Teresa,

I appreciate your interest. I've noticed sense my post yesterday that the link
I had in my signature is broken. I'm sure if anyone wanted to find UnitMaster,
they could. However, hear is the direct link:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/unitmaster/id566470245?ls=1&mt=12.

That will open safari, but it should also open the app store as well.
What ever you do though, put the Apple calculator in RPN mode. I'm sure you
will be much happier.

iTunes and audio books?

2013-06-02 Thread Maria & Joe Chapman
HI. I have 2 questions. Is there an audio player available for mac that
remembers your position when listening to an audio book? I thought itunes did
this if you change the media kind to audio book but I'm having trouble doing
this. I will try to explain what I'm doing and what's not working.

first I find the folder with the audio book and add it to the itunes library.
I then go to where it says search library and search for the book. I get the
search results but can't figure out how to select the files so I can do a
command i and change the media kind to audio book. If I do get the dialog it
seems to be the wrong book.

can anyone help or as I said above suggest a player that will remember it's
position? I know I could convert it using audio book builder but I was hoping
there was a quicker way.

lol

thanks
Blessings! Maria Joe and loving guide Karly.

Twitterrific and Twitter Etiquette

2013-06-02 Thread Mike Busboom
Hi.

I recently downloaded Twitterrific but have yet to create a Twitter account.
While I have read some articles on Twitter etiquette, I have yet to come across
a step-by-step guide for basically hitting the ground running. Is there such a
guide? If there is, could someone point me to it?

Lastly, since I have never been on Twitter, and Twitterrific will be my primary
Twitter client, are there any important facets of the social network that are
not usable through Twitterrific?

Thanks in avance.

Mike

Blind Mice Movies Remembering Playback Position

2013-06-02 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey all,

I have been loving the content from Blind Mice Moves, but don't always have the
time to watch a whole movie, and have been using iTunes to listen to the
movies, and have the remember checkbox position checked in iTunes for the movie
track, but that never seems to work.

It had been suggested to change the file format to an audio book, but the file
format under the get info menu in iTunes is dimmed and I can't change it. I
went to the folder where I store all the files and tried going to the get info
through there, but couldn't find the option to remember playback position. Any
ideas how to get one of these files to remember your playback position. I would
think you would be able to. Thanks

You don't need to change anything. Go to the message in the messages table, and
then press vo-m. Arrow right to the file menu, then down arrow to open it, and
keep moving down until you find "save attachments". Press enter, and pick where
you want the files to be saved just like you were in the Finder. Once you are
where you want the files to go, press enter and they will be placed there.

Re: Dimensions

2013-06-02 Thread Jessica Moss
Ok, I've managed to transform everything up to the kinetic dimentions, but
haven't done the collective/ghost dimensions, sense I A: can't stay up that
late, and B: haven't gotten enough people to join me to do the collective
one's, so I'm only going to guess that's why it won't let me go any further?
This is really starting to become a bit frustrating on my end.
I like that I'm finally starting to get the hang of it, but thought after I'd
gotten through all 3 demensions, transformed my quantem cells into whatever

Recurring Phenomenon In Mail

2013-06-02 Thread Gavin Grundlingh
Hi all,

As they say, curiosity killed the cat. So, I hope this bit of curiosity isn't
fatal. How is it that, one minute, a thread has a subject like, "Writing
Documents In TextEdit", then, after a few replies, the subject changes subtly,
and comes something like, "TextEdit 101 (was Writing Documents In TextEdit)"?
Does somebody manually add the parentheses around the previous subject, or is
this some hidden, totally awesome feature of Apple Mail?

Re: Recurring Phenomenon In Mail

No, it's manual. I imagine a script could make this more automated, but I don't
know. Either way, it is just someone editing the "subject" field before they
send their reply to a thread.

Re: iTunes and audio books?

2013-06-02 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

In iTunes, try selecting the Songs button so that all items are listed. Now if
you press return after entering the Search criteria. it should allow you to
navigate to the Music Table at the bottom right of the iTunes screen. Interact
with the Music Table and you should then be able to press cmd-i to Get Info on
the selection, select the Options tab and change it to be an Audio Book. I've
found that if you don't press return, a different sort of results dialog comes
up and it is not useful for these sorts of things.

Radium 3 on sale for $2.99 today (Sunday, June 2, 2013) at the Mac App Store

2013-06-02 Thread Esther
Hi all,

Radium 3, the internet radio playing app for the Mac, is on sale through the
end of today for $2.99 down from its usual price of $9.99 at the Mac App Store.
I posted the deal up at AppleVis, and you can also find a demo podcast there
at:
http://www.applevis.com/podcast/episodes/radium-3-internet-radio-player-mac

I think this link to Radium at the Mac App Store should work internationally:
• Radium 3
https://itunes.apple.com/app/radium-3/id597611879?mt=12

Please note that this app requires Mountain Lion (Mac OS X 10.8 or above) and a
64-bit processor.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

i phone contacts app

2013-06-02 Thread jean parker
All:
Does anyone know of a contacts app that is more streamlined than the one
currently on the i phone?
I find this one cumbersome to use and navigate. The part about adding a new
contact is ok. But then there are to many choices getting in the way. I don't
need to send anyone a fax, I don't care about anyone's pager, photo, nickname
or whatever, work this and that, home this and that, the possibilities
presented are endless and most of them are irrelevant. I want to ad someone's
name, phone number and maybe email address. That's all.
Any ideas?

Hello Jean. Just add the information you need for your contacts and save them.
If you don't have a fax number you won't see any reference to it after saving
your contacts.

Hi,

On your Mac, make sure, in system Prefs, in the iCloud pane, that you have
Calendars syncing. Also, make sure, on your iPhone, in Mail, Contacts and
Calendars, that you have Calendars set to sync with that specific account. You
can also check on this in the iCloud pane within Settings.

Re: i phone contacts app

2013-06-02 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi Jean,

If you set up both your iPhone and Mac to use the same Apple ID with iCloud,
then you can easily sync the Contacts on your Mac over to the iPhone through
iCloud. I'm a much faster typer on the Mac than on my iPhone so when entering
large amounts of contact info, I simply enter it on the Mac and it
automatically syncs over to my iPhone. Also, I can make changes on the iPhone
and it will automatically sync those changes over to the contact info on my
Mac. So, just one Contact database editable from both devices. The main thing
that I play with in the Contact app on the iPhone is setting specific
ring-tones and text-tones for important people so I can recognize them easily
from the noise made when they contact me.

saving mail messages

2013-06-02 Thread Stacey Robinson
Hi all,
I have a mailbox where I've stored about seventy messages.
Is there an easy way to save these as text files without having to open each
and save individually?
I'm running SL on a white macbook.

question about time readout for Macbook battery

2013-06-02 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I'm finalizing the battery script for my project, and I noticed something odd.
There's still a time estimate when my Macbook is charging, but it's shorter
than the estimate given when the Mac is not charging. Is the one given when
charging an estimate of how long the battery will take to fully charge, or is
something odd going on?

Incidentally, this is the second-to-last script, and I had complete success
testing the already-completed scripts on the Macbook. I wrote and tested them
all on only the Mini, but today was the first trial on a different machine, and
they ran perfectly! Looks like I might be on track for a release some time this
week, so stay tuned to the list (and Twitter).

Have a great day,

Re: question about time readout for Macbook battery

2013-06-02 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Yes, when the laptops are charging, the time readout is the amount of time
until the battery is fully charged whereas when it is simply running on battery
power, that is the amount of time left of usable charge.

Re: Dimensions

2013-06-02 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Jessica,

You don't have to play with a bunch of other people on the collective level.
You can buy quantum cell packs within the app, or you can continue to play the
lower levels until you collect a huge number of cells, at which point you can
convert them to artifacts. I didn't play the collective level with anyone else.
I also unlocked the ghost level by buying a bunch of quantum cells.

Re: question about time readout for Macbook battery

2013-06-02 Thread Alex Hall
Okay, thanks. I've really only ever used desktops, so wasn't sure what that
time was for. In the script, as long as you know it is "charging" or "not
charging", I don't need to state what the time is for, right? I mean, if you
heard something like,
90%, 1:10, charging
or
50%, 2:16, not charging
you'd know the times were for time to charge and time to battery flat,
respectively, right?

A Virtual structure review?

2013-06-02 Thread Karen Lewellen

Hi folks,
The stuff that lands on my desk sometimes!
Anyway, I know some here run their mac in a virtual environment with
another operating system, Linux perhaps even windows.
I imagine for this to work, you still use all mac hardware do you not? Say you
have a macbook, but you are running the virtual environment with xp. Its
boot camp, or is it something else?
and how do you swing the windows screen reader on the more superior mac
laptop?

Same keyboard of course, but jaws will talk using the mac sound setup?
Correct my assumptions pleas as I may be wrong about how this works for
you.
how if you were doing the easier thing then Linux, by running windows xp
how it would come together?

Thanks,
Karen

Re: A Virtual structure review?

2013-06-02 Thread Alex Hall
Bootcamp is where you can choose to boot the computer into OSX or Windows. A
virtual machine is where you boot into OSX, then run a copy of Windows or Linux
inside a virtual machine application like Virtual Box, Parallels, or Fusion.
The advantage of the latter is that, to the mac, Windows is just another
running application, so you can switch into and out of it and keep using your
mac apps even as you use Windows. To Windows (or whatever OS is running
virtually), though, you are booted into a normal computer. That is, the virtual
OS has no clue it is virtual, since the virtual machine application is
basically providing a "computer" built of software, tricking the OS into
running normally. Sounds, keyboards, displays... everything is provided by the
mac hardware, but the virtual OS treats it like its own. I hope that makes some
sense - it's pretty late here, so I'm not sure how coherent my message will
look in the morning.

Yes, I would understand. Although, I think that it would sound better if it
said something like 90%, Charging, 1:10 until charged and/or 50%, 3:25
remaining.

There are probably articles on this, but at present I am just completing my

to what id does, etiquette, and it has chapters on Windows, the Mac, PC, iOS
and Android. One of the clients covered in the iOS chapter is Twitterific, as
well as Tweetlist and the official Twitter for iPhone client. It will be an
eBook available via various sources including the iBooks Store.
