Re: Installing Flashplayer
Hi all, I'll tell you how I tried to install it and please do tell me what I did incorrectly. 1. I opened the Adobe Flashplayer.DMG file from the download folder. 2. I opened the application. 3. I was asked to enter my username and password, and I entered it as per the instructions. 4. I got a window with a progress indicator which basically indicates the progress of the installation. 5. After the progress indicator showed 100%, I got a message stating that the installation had been completed and then I pressed the finish button after which that window completely disappeared. I tried pressing tab in the window with the progress indicator but nothing happened. So, what did I do incorrectly? Apple Airport Extreme VS. Airport express
Hello: As the subject line implies, I'm considering strongly purchasing one of these devices. After reviewing the specs of both devices, I cannot see that there is a major difference between these 2 units regarding overall network functionality. Obviously, the Extreme costs quite a bit more than the Express, but can anyone tell me what the Extreme can do that the Express can't? The only major difference I can see is, that you can connect an external disk directly to the Extreme via a USB port. Is there anything else I'm overlooking here? Re: Apple Airport Extreme VS. Airport express
Hi, The Extreme has a more powerful processor in it so it can better handle the big demands for bandwidth. For normal household use though, this may not be a factor. The Extreme also has more ethernet ports for more wired connectivity. If you like streaming music from your computer to a stereo or home theatre, then this is more easily handled through the Express. The benefits of streaming music are only realized though if you can place the Express close to your stereo or Home Theatre. Later... Re: Continuous read with Read2Go app
Dear Esther, Thank you so much for your recommendation and detailed thoughts on Voice Dream Reader. I downloaded the app, purchased some voices and enjoy the high quality of speech that the app offers. I will contact the developer because I am interested in using the app's dictionary feature, something that I have had no success with thus far. I would have written to you sooner, but I wanted to give Voice Dream Reader a lot of listening before commenting on it. It was indeed well worth the money, and you can't beat the price for each additional voice you purchase. Thanks again for the recommendation and kindest regards, Mike On 9,Apr,2013, at 9:12 PM, Esther wrote: > Hello Mike, > > Have you looked into using the Voice Dream Reader app? printing a spreadsheet in numbers?
Hi all, Aghch I've just wasted a lot of paper and toner trying various ways to get a spreadsheet to print and it's not working. The thing just looks like crap I've got three tables on one sheet. What I need to do is size each table so that it prints nicely on a standard 8.5 by 11. Each table is only 14 rows and 5 columns, so it should fit if I can just figure out how to resize them properly. I can't find anything in the inspecter that looks like what I need. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Re: switching windows with a braille display
Hi Erik and Devin, Wow, I'm equally surprised that I'm the first person to raise this issue. I use CMD-Tab all the time, I would have thought that others using a braille display would have come across this problem. Seems like an odd command to leave out. I think I'll drop a line to Accessibility and suggest that they incorporate it into a future release. Interesting dilemma whether to try and do something for VO F1 or VO F2. Actually, F2 might be the better option as it would allow me to move between all Windows. I assume the computer goes into something equivalent to screen saver mode, but I'm not certain. of that. I am curious as to whether it is a good idea to keep the computer set this way, or change the behavior. I will anxiously await some lively debate on this question. You can disable this behavior in System Preferences in the Security and Privacy pane by disabling the need for a password when the computer wakes from sleep. However, this tends to be a user call based on your environment. I use my computers at home, so I don't feel a PW is needed to wake the systems. However, if you are taking a laptop to work or school, it might be practical to leave it at the default behavior. Letting your computer go to sleep automatically is an entirely different debate. I personally have it set so that I have to manually put my systems to sleep. However, that is my choice. Some feel it's better to let the computer go to sleep when not in use to save power and such. Two more braille display questions
Hi all, 1. It looks like there should be a way to add commands to the list, and then assign them to a braille display key, but I can't figure out how to do it. Can someone tell me if this is possible, and if so, how do you do it? 2. when I try and navigate through the messages table in Mail, It's as though VO keys are automatically turned on. Whether I use the arrow keys or the scroll buttons, all movement behaves like VO plus up or down arrow. This makes it impossible to move up and down in the messages list. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution? Thanks, Donna -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: switching windows with a braille display
Hi Donna, That's mighty odd. I just tested here and VO f1 lets me into each document I have open in numbers and text edit, as well as all my safari tabs and so on. I think we rely on command tab too much because we came from windows where accessing the task bar wasn't the thing to do. I try to force most of my clients to develop an afinity for the dock and application chooser because they offer a level of access that command tabbing doesn't really. Many of my clients alt tab or command tab without really understanding why they do that or how to pick things up when they get lost. Where-as the menu structure of the application switcher is a very friendly way to see all that's going on on your mac. Plus as well, if you have 10 apps open, command tabbing really isn't any more key presses than going to the dock, and even I start out command tabbing around only to forget which program I wanted and why, laughs, Erik Burggraaf Follow my series of articles about setting up a small business through the ontario disability support program at http://www.erik-burggraaf.com/blog Ebony Consulting toll-free: 1-888-255-5194 or on the web at http://www.erik-burggraaf.com On 2013-04-27, at 3:42 PM, Donna Goodin wrote: > Interesting. Re: To Let My Computer Sleep or Not
I have had similar questions, most of which have been answered. However, when disabling sleep, is there a general button that disables all sleep? From what I have seen in the pane to which you refer, one must disable or extend time for hard drive or screen separately. If there is a general way to do this with one checkbox, where is it? still no FB chat for me
I've updated Adium, and I still have no better luck with facebook chat than I've been having all week. Thanks for the very helpful information. I wanted to try a few things before buying a $99 program to fix the disk. I restored my drive from my Superdooper backup and it doesn't work better when I boot up from the internal hard drive. I used disk utility to erase the drive before the restore. Does this mean that there is something physically wrong with the drive, or does disk utility not totally erase the drive? Perhaps this means a visit to the Apple Store. What does command option H do in Apple Mail
In my clumsiness I hit command-option H while reading messages. VO said "Hide others" but I have no idea what others were being referred to. A perusal of the menus didn't shed a whole lot of light on the subject. I did, however, discover how to show my list of mailboxes which was handy indeed. One reason why I ask this question is that the VO backslash command to expand and collapse conversations doesn't seem to work as reliably as it once did. I was wondering if my hitting command option H changed something related to expanding and collapsing email conversations. I've waffled on enough now and I think you all probably get the point. I will be quiet until someone enlightens me further. Thanks and have a great weekend. Jamie Pauls -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. To my knowledge, that command hides all other applications. It is a purely visual thing, with no bearing on vo, so the conversation problems are likely unrelated. Re: Good speakers for mac mini
Right, so the optical cable I got has a small headphone jack shape on one end and the typical square shape on the other going into my receiver to do the 5.1 decode. Works great. If you don't have a 5.1 receiver you can also get a standalone decoder but then you'll need to run that into 6 amps. I've done that for larger venues but it's kind of overkill for home. If you decide to give that a whirl I can dig up a link to the cable. CB On 4/26/13 10:34 PM, Chris Gilland wrote: oh, you mean 3.5MM optical. ok. I do have a certain criteria though: - I listen to music... a lot. I want it to sound good coming out of these things. - I will most likely be setting this up to watch DVDs since, when I move out eventually, we'll be hooking up a TV as a display with HDMI. We're getting a futon so our office will double as a movie room. - I'm moving into an apartment building and don't want something too bass heavy because of that. I don't think the neighbours would appreciate it. ;) - The less space it takes up, the better. I am not opposed to 5.1 but don't want huge speakers since we'll have other stuff taking up space. - I don't want to spend tons of money on these. $500 is my absolute limit but I'd like to keep it quite a bit lower than that if possible. - I'm in Canada... any links provided would be even more useful if they're from Canadian sites. - I want something easy to set up on the mac mini... I don't want to mess with a bunch of adapters. I think that's about it. There's a couple of two-speaker sets from Bosse on the apple store but reviews are so varied that it leaves me unsure. Many say that it has tons of bass too so I am reluctant to put out the cash for one of those. I have had a hard time finding other options though so I am hoping some of you may have recommendations and/or experience that could help me make a decision. Re: Installing Mountain Lion on Partition (Probably a very basic question)
Dunno if it's worth the effort. You can get an external firewire 500GB drive for about $80 these days so if you're dropping the cash on Protools you might want to just set up lion on another drive when the time comes or flip flop internal and external at that point in time (backup internal to external drive, install older OSX on internal drive). Splitting your drive is like serving to masters. One partition will always have empty extra space while the other will be scrimping.
