Re: Buying Acapela: This? is driving? me? Crazy!
Hi Chris. You won't find anything for the Mac on Acapela's website. The website that manufactures the Mac version of the Acapela voices is www.assistiveware.com. There you can download the Infovox Ivox client and buy the voices that way. HTH. Yes you can. If you buy another gift card and redeem it, the credit will be added on to your existing credit. Christopher Hallsworth On 29/01/2013 10:04, Sean Murphy wrote: Hi All. Re: Warning about Apple TV Update. Do, not, pannick!
My Apple TV that I purchased about one year ago Has always taken longer than normal to do updates. I have been on three different Internet providers with no change. After 1.5 hours yesterday it was still at a little over 50% I will check when I get home from work today to see if the update completed or not. Sent from my iPhone On Jan 29, 2013, at 0:20, "M. What about the load on the server at a given time. The larger the load on the server the slower the download will come down. Re: Accessibility of tax Filing process
Hi there For federal returns, you can input everything. This includes W-2s and 1099s of all iinds. However, I have not a clue if this is true for the State returns. If the state has a requirement for sending in these image files, then you might be stuck with image files. Here's my suggestion. Get together every paper you can possibly think of that you would need for your taxes. Write-down all your information in some form you want to read for yourself. This will cut down on the need for editing. I have found that helpful when using TaxACT because they could use some improvement with accessibility in my opinion. The edit buttons and add buttons are not very accessible with screen readers as far as I can tell, At least, the easy way. It is possible to edit if you make a mistake, but you have to go the long way around, As far as I can tell, it does not cost anything for you to go in and input stuff. So, you could startr doing things, and then if you didn't like it, you could erase it all. I had to erase several things and start over because I messed it up. spelling in Greek with voice over.
Hi list. I am not sure when this problem started, I don't even remember if it ever worked correctly. When I type text in Greek using any Greek voice either from Acapela or the default from Apple, if I want to spell a word with vo + w for example, instead of the actual letters, alpha, beta, gama etc, voice over says, "small Greek letter alpha, small Greek letter beta " etc. Any multilingual users on this list face this problem? Is there any setting in Voice over to fix this? Any help is very much appreciated. Nektarios. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Accessibility of tax Filing process
Thanks. Actually I've started the process and the Federal is going well. I'm having somebody sighted come and make sure everything is input correctly and next year I'll be able to import a lot and it will be easier. I'm also going to do my state with taxact even though I will pay for it because it will be accessible. The state's free system requires adobe acrobat which is not accessible for voiceover users on the Mac; I have to use that for my daughter's homestead and that's also where the attachment has to be done so I'm going to have to have sighted help for that. But so far I'm really pleased with taxact; I had some questions and they were very prompt and thorough in emailing me back. The only reason I'm not using them for my daughter's homestead is that taxact isn't set up to do a standalone homestead and I still would have the attachment issue or would have to mail the documents. But I would definitely recommend taxact to people using the Mac with voiceover. The link to edit your w2 when reviewing it, for instance, is not showing a label and takes some trial and error but for the most part it is accessible. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Re: spelling in Greek with voice over.
Hello Nektarios (or should that be Nektari?), Is your OS running in English? If so, this might explain the problem. I certainly find that punctuation is read in English by the French voices when I'm using them on my personal computer which runs in English. On the computer running in French, most things are localised into French. Re: Accessibility of tax Filing process
No, I don't think it's weird at all and I thought about doing that; maybe I will next year. But so far doing it on my computer is going very well. I'm actually ready to file the Federal but want a sighted person to review the information and compare it with last year's form and my W2; next year that won't be as necessary. For anybody thinking about doing this, I would say that the first year is the hardest and maybe scariest. If you stick with the same system there are usually tools for importing some of your info from the previous year so subsequent years will be much easier. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Hi. Todays macupdate desktop deal is keycue. Has anyone got that program to work with VoiceOver. I thought of it because I often have difficulties remembering all the hotkeys on the mac itself and in programs with a lot of hotkeys. The program lets you see all the hotkeys in a speciffic program, by pressing and holding the command key. Can we use that program in any way? Re: Accessibility of tax Filing process
Okay, I have a question, and maybe you have figured out the answer. I have a 1099 MIS see that I know I'm going to have to go back and edit. This is because Delmead put it in with all the information I had a time, but I discovered I left out for example the tax identification number. Have you figured out a way to edit the thing without having to go back and go from the interview process or the review process? Re: Using my new mac for email
I wasn't able to get Thunderbird working accessibly on the Mac and the command line interface is not working so hot either. There are a bunch of bugs already filed against this which go back for years. It basically comes down to Mozilla supporting the IAccessible accessibility API which nobody has ported to OSX. They are not that interested in supporting another API and Apple is not implementing iAccessible on OSX so the stalemate goes on. A few folks have taken it upon themselves to try and fix up Firefox but that's not really usable yet. At least it doesn't matter a whole lot since Safari and Apple Mail are quite good. Re: a question about DFU mode
YOu'd normally invoke DFU mode when an iOS device is connected to iTunes. In this case, iTunes will tell you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Also, all regular functions of the device aren't available. The device hasn't fully booted into iOS, so for example VoiceOver on the device won't be active. Re: Accessibility of tax Filing process
Unless there is something new (which is possible), the IRS doesn't offer, unless you're an employee, direct electronic filing. You have to go through an approved electronic filer. I don't believe, unless things have changed, that you can just electronic file directly from your computer to the IRS web site. You can fill out those PDF files done by the Alternative Media Center. I did that last year. However, you do have to use Windows to do those. They are accessible with Windows. Too bad good old Adobe hasn't got on the stickso we can do them with our Macs. Mac and iCloud settings
Hi, I have two extra inboxes in my Mac Mail(me.com and Icloud.com) which are causing me problems. First of all, I have one particular person who's emails are for some reason going into one of those boxes and no where else and I don't know why, 2, it seems to default my send-from account as my me.com account and I do not want this, I either want my btinternet or my gmail to be my default send-from and to addresses. Do I need them? Can I hide them or stop them trying to dominate? Also, even though I have icloud set up on all my devices, I can't get my mac contacts to update, I need the ones from my iphone to replace the ones on the mac, how can I instigate this? Can I get my mac to access my last iphone icloud backup so it uses that information? Using non mac keyboard in bootcamped windows
The question occurs to me whether a standard windows style keyboard can be used in bootcamp rather than the Mac USB keyboard. Would special drivers be needed? What would happen if you just plugged in a windows style USB keyboard in bootcamped windows? Would it work? Accessing iDevice Photo's in OSX.
I know on windows you can access photos/videos on an iDevice within windows explorer like a drive or folder. Is there a way under MountainLion to do the same or does it have to be through iTunes or iPhoto? Thanks. macbook air, bootcamp, win7 and sound problem
Hello, I was trying to install win7 ultimate edition on my macbook air 11inch (2012). I have done this together with a sighted friend. Windows has installed successfully but, it seems not possible to have sound. We have a errorcode 10 what should mean that a correct driver for the sound card is missing but updating or reinstalling the driver didn't solve the problem. I don't know much more about the further technical information . If someone here has successfully installed win7 with bootcamp on a macbook air 11inch from 2012, and has no sound problems, I am glad to hear how this problem could be solved. Thx alot for your hints, kind regards, William Windels -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: a question about DFU mode
Hi Phill, DFU mode stands for device firmware update. It is used if you wish to downgrade your iOS or jailbreak the phone. YOu can interface with it via iTunes, but it's a mode that occurs before the operating system can load. Team Viewer
I am hoping it was this list that someone suggested Team Viewer as a method of being able to remote control a Mac over long distances. The claim was that the app is accessible with VoiceOver. I am curious as to how they got this to work. Initial testing has proven this app to have the same problems as the other remote apps. You don't get any VoiceOver feedback over the connection. Re: Accessibility of tax Filing process
The IRS doesn't provide its own e-filing system; Its website gives a list of providers of software and/or online programs from which you can choose. There isn't an IRS free-file or e-file that you can use independent of software providers. This is different than some states which do have their own e-file system. But even so, in my state's case, the state's system is less accessible. It requires the use of Adobe Acrobat Reader for filling out the forms and for certain forms requires either mailing in information after the acknowledgment or attaching files of documents while doing the return which involves adobe acrobat reader. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Re: Accessibility of tax Filing process
Yes, I know this is a little OT but I download the brf or text files every year to figure out my returns manually before I go through the process especially if I'm taking them to somebody else to do! If you go to the IRS website and to accessibility you can find them. And you can fill in the text files in Text Edit just for your own edification. I actually do them in terminal with brltty and my braille display but of corse this is just for my own benefit not to send anywhere. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Re: Accessibility of tax Filing process
Hi there Well, this brings our topic back on to the Mac subject. Let me tell you what I did last year. After I downloaded the text files, I selected all the text for the form that I wanted and put the text of the form into numbers so that I have a column B that had the Text of the form. Then, I put the numbers I wanted and added them up where I needed them et cetera. works real well for figuring out what I was going to end up with. The last year, I did the PDF files on my husbands this to computer. However I don't want to do at this year. If I install version 5, can I just paste a folder in and not have to reinstall Windows 7, Jaws, and all that mess? If so, where is this folder, and what's its name? Any information is greatly appreciated! Kim -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: No drive mounted in single user mode?
is single user mode the mode that you boot into by holding the shift key as the system powers up? It was recommended to me that I do that in order to correct certain system problems. Anyway, I got to a basically gray screen with no disk volumes mounted on the desktop, and I didn't have VoiceOver. There was something that looked like a progress bar of sorts in the center of the screen, but after a long while, I just rebooted normally. Is VO available in this "single user mode"? - Original Message - From: "Alex Hall" To: Sent: Tuesday, January 29, 2013 8:07 PM Subject: No drive mounted in single user mode? . Hi all,. I am trying to run a memory test in single user mode. However, it seems that my hard drive is not automatically mounted, so I of course have no access to the utility I want to run. I have looked on Google, but no one else seems to have this problem. All the instructions for memtest I have found say to just run the command as though the drive is already mounted. I have bootcamp enabled if that makes a difference. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: No drive mounted in single user mode?
No, it is the mode accessed by holding cmd-s while booting. Id puts you in a shell prompt. My understanding is that your hard drive will mount automatically, but that does not seem to happen. It has no speech feedback at all, making it hard for me to play with as I need a sighted person to whom I can issue instructions. I just want to access /usr/bin/memtest, but my whole hard drive seems unavailable and I don't know why. Vo, if you have it to read the characters, will read all sorts of unicode symbols, I even found it reading Hebrew characters. So It should surely read Greek stuff. Re: VMware fusion under ML
Well, you can do that, but jaws is still going to ask you to activate. It did this to me coming from fusion 4, to 5. Everything else will be preserved, fusion will just tell you that the vm machine needs to be configured for later versions, and once you do it, you can't go back. The folder you want is call virtual machines, and it's in your documents folder. Compact voice and IOS 6.1
Hi Since upgrading to 6.1 on my iPhone 5, I've lost the full voice. Despite compact voice being off, it is the compact voice which is being used. Has anybody else had this? I'm using Karen. misbehaving rtf file?
Hi all, Someone sent me an rtf file I am supposed to fill out (it's a bunch of questions) and send back. However, vo is doing very odd things in Textedit with this file open. Mostly, it seems to be reporting some lines of text as new lines, especially at the top of the file, and refusing to move past page 1 with the arrow keys. Going to the bottom and arrowing up isn't much help, since it then gets stuck on the last page, looping back to the bottom when I try to go higher. I've never seen this happen before. Does anyone have a clue why this might be happening? If it matters, the file took a rather circuitous route to my mac: I got it on my iPhone, opened the attachment, exported it to Dropbox, then copied that file from dropbox to another folder on the mac. However, I also went back and grabbed the attachment right from the email on my mac (I love imap) and that fresh copy is doing exactly the same thing. Does anyone have a clue what might be happening? Hi Alex, Just some guesses here, since i've seen some of this behavior with other documents in other formats as well. Make sure quick Nav is off, when you're in the document, and interact with the text. Hopefully, if those 2 things are done, you can arrow up and down, and navigate the text as normal.
