This game is kinda fun. Fairly simple, but worth it for the price tag.

I notice there seems to be a fair few French speakers in the saloon. Seems a
little odd for such a place, but I guess with globalisation and all that I
shouldn't be surprised. Anyway, I've got nothing against French tourists so as
long as none of them don't start no trouble, I don't got no problem (except for
a tendency to use double negatives).

Hey all,

As usual, the subject says it all. I cannot figure out how to add or
remove friends/followers from YoruFukurou. I've searched through the
menus and different options but haven't come up with anything.

If anyone could help me out, I would be extremely grateful. Thanks in advance!

Hello Bill,

I agree with Chris that I would use wget from Terminal to grab a web
site and its dependent pages as you requested. However, if you want
to look for a GUI based solution, you might try explore a free app
that you can get from the Mac App store named SiteSucker. This
question came up on the mac-access list, and most of the responses
were to use wget or curl from the Terminal. But the poster was asking
on behalf of a friend, who didn't feel comfortable using Terminal.
You can read my post about SiteSucker and another app named Maria in
the Mail Archive post at:
• Re: download managers.
http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access%40mac-access.net/msg12870.html

This post gives the links to SiteSucker, and a few comments about
trying it. If you read two more posts down the thread (using Control-
n to go to the next to posts) you can read the statement about Maria.
I'm afraid we didn't spend very much time on this topic, since the
person who posed the question had already suggested to his friend that
the best way was to use wget, and the other people responding about
alternatives basically also agreed that wget was what they would
recommend. And since the friend in question was not a list member,
and the questions were being relayed at second hand, there was not
much incentive to investigate in more detail .

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Mark, when you have Yourufukuru open go to your followers, and ollowing tab, I
think it's command L, I can't run the program at work they have me blocked from
it at the moment, not sure why, but go there, and go to the name of the person
you're looking to remove, and move over to column 4 or 5 one of those I forget
whih, and there is a button that says menu button. click that, and activate the
menu, and go down to unfollow or stop following. Hope this helps and if I got
it wrong I apologize but I believe that's the procedure. Hope that helps.

Hi Mark,

To access your friends/followers, press cmd+l. You'll be on the following tab,
which lists those you're following. To go to the followers tab, just vo+right
arrow once and vo+space on where it says followers. Then go to the table,
interact with it, and find the person you wish to adjust the setting for. Press
vo+shift+m on their name, and go down to either follow, or unfollow depending
on the status.

Re: How to add and remove friends/followers in YoruFukurou

2013-01-24 Thread Alex Hall
Just to add:
•a friend is someone you follow, whether or not they follow you back or even
know who you are. Usually, large companies or news sites have a great many
followers, meaning that every follower of them has them as a friend.
•a follower is someone following you.
•when you send a tweet, your friends don't see it but your followers do. When a
friend sends a tweet, you see it because you are a follower of your friends.
When a follower sends a tweet, you don't see it because you may not be
following that follower (A.K.A. you may not be a friend of that follower).

To follow someone, I find it easiest to use a tweet. If you know the person's
Twitter name, just write a new tweet saying:
F @username
where the F is capitalized and the @username is the person's Twitter handle,
such as @VOTips or @MacWorld. Un-following has already been covered (and I
never knew how to do that except through the drawer, so thanks to those who
posted those steps). By the way, that follow command tweet will not appear in
your timeline as long as you have it properly typed.

Looking for old Outspoken demos for vintage Macs

2013-01-24 Thread Megan Bening
Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone happens to have a demo of the old Outspoken
screen reader that worked on (I believe) System 6 and 7, as well as OS
9.
Years ago, up until OSX was released, a company called Optelec (later
acquired by Alva) sold Outspoken. The software was discontinued in
2003 with the advent of OSX, and then the company was later closed.
Alva used to publish demos of Outspoken on their server, but it looks
like those links have been broken for several years. So, that finally
brings me to my point.
I have a couple of vintage Macs lying around, and it would be great if
I could use them independently. I'm looking for any Outspoken version
that works with System 6/7 or OS 9. I've got one Mac SE and one eMac.
I have some manuals and can probably figure out some more stuff just
by playing. I just need a link to a demo, if anyone happens to have
one, or maybe a link to a downloadable copy of the contents of a demo
CD. I would be willing to pay a small fee for this, just email me and
we can work something out.
I appologize if you feel that this thread does not belong here. I know
this is primarily an OSX list, and I generally use it as such, but had
no idea where else I could find a huge pool of blind Mac users to
consult and figured that, if nothing else, you guys might be able to
point me in the right direction.
A huge thank you in advance to anyone who can help me with this!
Thanks for reading,
Megan

For deleted or lost messages from this list, look in the archives.

In the meantime, try a program called ID3 Edit. I can't remember if I

Re: Managing List Subscriptions [was Re: To the Moderator of this list]

2013-01-24 Thread Bejarano, Rafael P.
Thank you.
On Jan 23, 2013, at 2:26 PM, Esther wrote:

Hello Laura, Rafael, J.P., Kimsan, Gigi, and Others

You can manage both the type of your subscriptions (No Email, Email, Digest
Email, or Unsubscribe to permanently leave the list) and the email address(es)
that you use for all your Google Group list memberships by going to the
following URL, which is the page for "Manage My Memberships"

http://groups.google.com/groups/mysubs?hl=en_US&pli=1

This page lets you select the email address used to receive list posts as well
as your subscription type option from pop up menus for each list you subscribe
to under Google Groups. However, this only lets you select the email address
you use from among the valid (posting) email addresses that are already
associated with your account. If you want your subscription to go to a new
email address, navigate to the link on the above page for "My Google account"
to Change your email address, nickname, or password. VO-Space on that link to
navigate to the "Account Overview" page. Then use item chooser menu (VO-I),
type in "Email", and navigate to the section with the Email information for
your account. You can activate the "Edit" link immediately following "Email"
to make general changes to your account, including adding any Email addresses
you want to under the "Change your associated Email addresses" heading by
typing in additional Email addresses into the text box for "Add a new alternate
Email" and then pressing the "Save" button. Alternatively, if you simply want
to change the primary email for the account, on the "Account Overview" page you
can navigate directly to the "Edit" link immediately following the "Primary
email address" info and activate that link.

For more details and answers to related specific questions, check the following
list posts that were found from a search of this list's archives:
• Re: The New Google Groups Site and viewing/changing membership options?
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg64431.html
• Re: Changing list email address and subscription options [was Re: How to stop
receiving mail from the list without unsubscribing?]
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg67853.html

These posts explain various other questions that came up, like reminding users
that if you're prompted to log in with an email address and password, the email
address you use is the one you used to create your Google Account -- it need
not be your current email address. Also, the above procedure of adding email
addresses associated with your account assumes that you have not created
multiple Google Accounts by multiple unsubscribes and creations of new Google
Accounts. You only ever need to modify one account to manage your
subscriptions, and you cannot add multiple email addresses that are already
associated with different Google Accounts that you have forgotten about. If
you do add new Email addresses from the "Account Overview" page, you can
navigate back to the "Manage My Memberships" page and change the pop up menu
buttons for which address is used to receive mail subscriptions. And you can
post to the list using Email addresses from any of the addresses that you have
added, and which appear in the pop-up menu.

If you want to read up or down the linked threads at the Mail Archive for this
list, use Control+p to read previous posts in the thread, and Control+n to read
the next post in the thread. (These shortcut keys are for Safari).

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

batch convert pdf to html?

2013-01-24 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I'm wondering if there's a program to batch convert PDFs to html on the mac?
I'd need line spacing preserved, and navigation could be made into headings. Is
such a program available? I'd need it to be batch-capable because I have a
folder of about 150 files I'd need to convert (they are regulations, but the
organization only offers PDF downloads). Yes, I can open them in iBooks, but it
would be great to be able to browse them on the mac as well as on the iPhone,
and Quickview just won't cut it here. thanks.

Changin Text Color in a Document

2013-01-24 Thread Harry Hogue
Hello,

Does anyone know how to change the text color in a document? I am doing a

I know how to do the point size, font, and alignment; what I don't know how to

Hello,

It calls it "a shade of dark olive green 1" instead of simply "a shade of dark

Do you think saying "copy paragraph style" from the other document would work?

Re: Changing Text Color in a Document

2013-01-24 Thread Barry Hadder
Hey,

In the colors box, select color wheel and move the slider to 33.5 percent.
That gets rid of the 1.

I don't know if the copy paragraph styles would work or not. I've never tried
it.
Take care.

Do you think saying "copy paragraph style" from the other document would work?

Headers in Pages

2013-01-24 Thread Harry Hogue
Hello,

I want to edit header information in Pages. The document was a .doc file
originally. If I try to read the text with VoiceOver, I am unable, but if I
select New TextEdit Window Containing Selection, the text is shown to me. It
is from someone's resume they gave me to copy the format. I am wondering why
VoiceOver does not read the header text -- maybe because it considers it static
text, whatever that is? The rest of the document is perfectly useable,
otherwise.

Thanks for any help, guys. The text has one line centered, and on the next
line it has left justified, and then the e-mail justified to the right on the
same line… something like that, anyway. It is from someone who has sight and
was looked over by a person at their university, so I know it looks
professional.

Thanks,

Harry

Re: Filling in tables in the docx format.

2013-01-24 Thread Harry Hogue
Annie,

Unfortunately, I know of no way to do this using either Pages or TextEdit. It
truly would be wonderful, however.

There is a way to extract information from a Word table and read it in
TextEdit, but I do not think it retains the original formatting, nor oes it
allow you to fill out the table, as it is plane text and simply presented in a
simpel format with each column separated by tabs, if I remember correctly.

Re: trying to get push notifications to work with the FB app

2013-01-24 Thread James Mannion
Sometimes the trick is that after you have adjusted the push settings
for an app, even if you turn them off and on again for that app, then
put the phone in airplain mode for at least 30 seconds then turn off
airplane mode. In theory rebooting would have to be doing the same
thing, but maybe not. This is what I have read in the instructions for
some apps in the troubleshooting for getting push working. It is
really frustrating that push is a finiky thing to get working.
Sometimes push will not work before doing the above and that has often
been necessary in my experience. I have one app that I have to go into
its own settings turn off all the alerts and turn them back on again
in the apps own settings. Then airplane mode off and on and then it
usually works. A pain every time the OS has been reinstalled for any
reason, upgrade, etc.

Re: Changin Text Color in a Document

2013-01-24 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Chris,

Actually, it is just the same in Pages, and in every other text editing
application I've used. Cmd-Shift-c opens the colour palettes.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Filling in tables in the docx format.

2013-01-24 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Annie,

Have you tried extracting the tables to be filled in and pasting them into
Numbers where the format will be retained? You can then select the tables and
copy them back to Pages, if that's what you're using.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Changing Text Color in a Document

2013-01-24 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Harry,

Normally, copying text from another document will keep the text attributes of
the original document if you just do Cmd-v. Cmd-Option-Shift-v matches the
style of the document you're working on.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Changing Text Color in a Document

2013-01-24 Thread Devin Prater
Sorry, got a little off subject. I used to just do ctrl, cmd, option home, but
that made the mac go busy. What exactly is that command for? I know that
ctrl-option-shift-home or end is quicker and better, was just cupios about what
the other one does.
