Hi Marcello
What specifically do you mean by what are the differences? Is there certain
part of voiceover you're asking about?

Re: Voiceover in mountain lion

2012-11-20 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi again Marcello
On page 246 of the voiceover manual, it has a section for new and changed
items. I read over it, and as far as I can see, there's not a lot of changes to
voiceover. The biggest changes would be to OS X it's self from Lyon.

Re: Pages issue with VoiceOver

2012-11-20 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Scott,

The command to bring the mouse to the VoiceOver cursor is VO-Cmd-F5. You can
find all the VO commands by pressing VO-h-h and looking through all the menus.

In Pages, you usually have to bring the mouse and click with VO-Shift-Space to
bring the focus to the area you wish to edit.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Voiceover in mountain lion

2012-11-20 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

yes, there are improvements. Not many but, I believe some of them are
extremely important. For me, the most important is the ability to access 3rd
party icons in the status menu. This essentially gives voiceover users access
to hundreds, maybe thousands of apps we otherwise couldn't use. Couple this
with a more reliable drag and drop. Not perfect but, better. Improvements to
the new voices that were added in Lion 10.7, etc. And I think There was enough
improvements to voiceover to justify the $20.

IPhone cases and keyboards

2012-11-20 Thread Missy Hoppe
Good morning, all. For a variety of reasons, I've just about decided to take
the plunge and get an IPhone for Christmas.
After a lot of thinking with regards to how to make this endeavor as
budget-friendly as possible, my plan at this point is to
get an unlocked 4S so that I can use it with Cincinnati Bell. From what I've
heard, the only drawback will be that the
fastest data rate I will be able to use is edge, but my thinking is that I'll
use wifi whereever possible, so the slow data
rate is worth it to keep my bill manageable.
Anyway, I'm writing because I'm trying to plan ahead. I already know I'm going
to want the tactile overlay from speeddots,
but what I can't figure out is what case I should get. I understand that if I
get the defender case, that means buying a
different version of the speeddots overlay. The other case I'm considering is
the one recommended on the speeddots site: the
one with the built-in slide out keyboard. This is really appealing to me since
1 of my biggest fears in getting an IPhone has
been the touch screen. I know that with Siri, I probably won't have to deal
with it as much, so I'm torne between the really
good defender case and the 1 with the keyboard. Naturally, I'm open to any
suggestions anyone may have. Bulkiness is not an
issue for me; I don't want the iphone for it's tiny form factor, so if anyone
out there recommends a different case and/or
keyboard, I'd be interested in hearing about it.
Thank you all very much for your time, and I look forward to whatever advice
you can offer.

Hi,

You might try just getting the iphone and the defender case first without the

I would recommend the defender case over the one with the slide out keyboard

RE: IPhone cases and keyboards

2012-11-20 Thread Missy Hoppe
Thank you very much for your response. Getting the defender case does make
sense, as I can always get a bluetooth keyboard
later on if I absolutely need it. I just found the idea of the keyboard built
into a case appealing because it would mean
that there would be 1 less thing for me to carry around. I'm pretty sure I'm
going to need the tactile overlay, though. I've
played with IDevices in the past, and it's never worked well. Thanks again, and
I hope that you're having a great day!

Re: Voiceover in mountain lion

2012-11-20 Thread Mike Arrigo
The biggest area of improvement is in web access, you no longer get the
safari busy messages. There are a few other improvements such as with
drag and drop, I never have a need to use that though so can't say how
big of a difference it is.

Original message:
Well, my question is: has improve Mountain Lion's voiceover if you
compare this version to the Lion's version? ... or it is the same voiceover?...

thanks

vo randomly restarts in safari

Hi all,
Every so often, when I load or reload a page, vo will restart. I will hear
"Voiceover on" after several seconds of intense activity from the hard drive,

there logs I could use to pinpoint the problem or at least tell Apple what is
going on?

Re: Pages issue with VoiceOver

2012-11-20 Thread Scott Davert
THank you Anne! I'm quite new to the Mac itself, and this was very
helpful. I will not see this client again until Monday with Pages, but
I'll certainly do the 2 things you suggested. I'm waiting for iWorks
to go on sale again, and I'll then pick it up for myself. I know Apple
is supposed to have a big sale on things Friday here in the US, so I'm
hoping that will be one of their deals. Again, thank you so much for
your replies to a question that probably seems very elementary to
someone who has been around it for awhile. I'm in the process of
divorcing Windows at the moment. It seems like we cannot not
communicate any more, and it's just not stable enough of a partner.

Question

2012-11-20 Thread Jesus Garcia
Evening folks I cannot seem to post a message directly to the list, so
forgive the incorrect manner of posting.

I have a question regarding safari.

I am running latest version of Mountain Lion 10.82 and latest safari. I want
to open an XML file from book share directly from finder with the open
command. At the moment I must go to the finder file menu and choose safari
from the menu. Otherwise the machine wants me to use Internet explorer
within VM Ware fusion and windows 7. What settings am I missing?

when I open the file manually everything works great, thanks to the help
from the list, in setting up safari properly.

Again thanks and apologies for the incorrect method of posting.

Trouble withTwitter on Mountain Lion 10.8.2

2012-11-20 Thread Daniel C
Good day list,
I have Mountain Lion the latest version. I have my twitter account active under
system prefs, mail and internet accounts. Twitter use to show notifications in
notification center but since I've changed my password and re-added the
account, notifications aren't being shown for twitter anymore.
I revoked and undid the revoke access for OS10 integration on the twitter site
but it makes no difference.
Come th think of it, the same issue happens on my PHone 5 where notifications
aren't working either.
Anyone have any ideas as to a fix for this?
I checked my keychains using the first aid option and it finds no problems.
I really don't want to have to reinstall M L just because of twitter not
working.
Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Yes according to the folks on the podcast the menus and ability to select
cut and paste are accessible with voice over. If I can find the podcast I
will send the link. Apparently the software is only $49.00 which is
considerably less expensive then it was when I purchased it for windows,
though naturally not having purchased it I cannot verify the price.

Now that is odd, considering I heard it was for $230.00 or so, and, no demo

reading VO commands keys?

2012-11-20 Thread Estelita
Hello listers,

we can access the VO commands by pressing VO-h-h, and down or up arrow to cycle
the different commands inside the menu, but sometimes I want to read the
Command word by word, or letter by letter.

Is there a process that we can do this?

Thank you in advance for any instructions, your help is very much appreciated.

Maybe you should contact him for further clarification. Normally, I'd not give

Re: Trouble withTwitter on Mountain Lion 10.8.2

2012-11-20 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
First of all, don't reinstall O S X. That's way! way! extreme. I think we
can get to the bottom of this.

I almost wonder if somehow notifications for Twitter have gotten disabled.
I'd not know how that happened, but anything's possible. Go look under
System Preferences, then go to notifications. Make sure that Twitter has at
least badges and bannars. I doubt you'd also want alerts, as that could
become a bit annoying. Let us know if that helps. If it doesn't, don't
sweat. We'll keep thinking of something. I'm in complete agreement with
you though about reinstalling the O S. That's way way extreme and
definitely should not be necessary, so let's not even go there, remotely, at
this time. I'm sure there's a logical answer to this.

Good day list,
I have Mountain Lion the latest version. I have my twitter account active
under system prefs, mail and internet accounts. Twitter use to show
notifications in notification center but since I've changed my password and
re-added the account, notifications aren't being shown for twitter anymore.
I revoked and undid the revoke access for OS10 integration on the twitter
site but it makes no difference.
Come th think of it, the same issue happens on my PHone 5 where
notifications aren't working either.

Anyone have any ideas as to a fix for this?
I checked my keychains using the first aid option and it finds no problems.
I really don't want to have to reinstall M L just because of twitter not
working.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Re: Real Ins and Outs Of iTunes With iOS Devices

2012-11-20 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

For #1:

Unless you get into some non-iTunes software that can access the Library on
your iPod, which, by the way is breaking your license agreement with Apple,
this is simply not possible. I don't believe that Apple wants to get into the
sharing media business which is essentially what you're asking to do here.
Apple created the iTunes Store to allow legal downloads of digital music and
has made their license agreements with various labels with this in mind.

For #2:

One iTunes Library can serve many iDevices, up to 10 I believe. You can sync
different playlists, the same playlists, the entire Library or, more or less,
whatever combination of these you'd like on each iDevice. Simply use the Music
tab of your iDevice to select the items you wished synced with each iDevice.

For #3:

I don't believe that you can copy the Library files between Mac and PC but it
would be no issue at all to copy the media files as iTunes will play the m4a,
m4v or whatever media type iTunes normally plays in both platforms. These file
types don't care whether you play them from iTunes on the Mac or the PC, just
whether you're using iTunes to play them. You'd likely lose all your playlists
and such but the actual media would be totally transferable.

HTH.

Okay. The price for Sound Forge Pro for the Mac seems to be for $269.95 or so.

In any case, seems promissing from what I hear about it.
