Re: Setting activities

Hi Ricardo
I thought turning on quick nav was picking the activity.
I wondered if I was missing a step but don't understand how to pick the
activity
I'm sure it's easy if you know how (smile).

Hi all,

Is there any way to stop VoiceOver from anouncing the kind of item you are

still hear things like, "application", "folder", "wave audio file", "unix
executable file", etc.

sorting randomly tracks in playlist before burning

2012-08-08 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hello Listers,

I've created an mp3 playlist of over 100 tracks to be burnt to a CD. Is there a
way of randomly arranging these tracks so that they do not appear as albums?
What I'm after is something akin to a shuffle situation where when you listen
to your cd the songs do not play according to where they are in a respective
album but play somewhat randomly. My cd player does not have shuffle facility.

Many thanks for your tips.

Andrew

Re: Getting Mission Control out of the way.

2012-08-08 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi There,

I only unchecked two items, Control-Up Arrow and Control-Down arrow. Veronica
was correct in that any time I activated Mission Control, it related to
shutting up speech and hitting one of the arrows too quickly. If it turns out
other items need to be unchecked, I'll be vigilant as to what keystrokes
invoked this behavior.

 Hi Christine and everyone.
Okay, I'm on the MacBook now so I thought I'd share what I did to get rid
of Mission Control's annoying unwanted appearances.
 1. go into system preferences.
 2. Interact with preference panes scroll area.
 3. VO-right-arrow to the keyboard button. Note: You will pass by Mission
control, which does contain some keyboard options. But these are for
keyboard commands while you're in Mission control, so they're not what
 we're after at the moment.
 4. Select keyboard and VO-right-arrow to the keyboard shortcuts tab and
select it. Note: You'll pass by the keyboard tab on the way to the
 keyboard shortcuts tab.
 5. VO-right-arrow till you hear "shortcut categories table.
 6. On mine, Mission control was the first item in the table. If it isn't
for you, up and down arrow till you find mission control.
 7. Then VO-right-arrow past a vertical splitter, then you'll find mission
 control shortcuts table.
 8. Here's where it got interesting for me. If you don't interact with the
shortcuts table, you can up and down arrow, hearing checkboxes which are
either checked or unchecked. But of course, you can't change the state of
the checkboxes. Once you interact, you can uncheck these boxes, you just
can't tell what you're unchecking. So I just kept tabbing and
shift-tabbing back and forth, being careful that I didn't get myself into
a strange table and uncheck some big thing somewhere. But when
you're not interacting with the shortcuts table, you will see things like
application windows, control-down-arrow. If you count from the top,
knowing which one this is, just interact, uncheck that box and your life
will be so much more peaceful.
 9. If you stop interacting with the shortcuts table, you can
VO-right-arrow to the place where you can decide how the tab key behaves.
Or you can just close with Command-W and enjoy your Mac life.
Anyway, there may be an easier path, but I hope this made sense and did
 some good.

2012-08-08 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Only one problem with that approach, and that problem is a deal breaker in my
not so humble opinion: You can actually like and comment using Trillian,
although you apparently have to route the mouse cursor to where you want to
reply and/or like, otherwise you can mess up things as i learned just the other
day, but here is the real no-go: You can type a message to post as a status
update but neither on Trillians facebook nor twitter implementations does VO
see the button to post the status updates and no shortcuts exist. This, in my
as i said earlier not so humble opinion is a show stopper and makes me refrain
from using Trillian at all.

These voices are fantastic! I still use Alex in Vo, but I use Infovox Tracy for
my system voice/growl notifications. I have
all of the English speaking infovox voices, and really like them. Some of them
have some weird pronunciation issues, but then
again, what tts voice doesn't have that problem? I'd take the Infovox voices
over the Nuance/realSpeak voices any ttime. I
hope this helps!

RE: Mountain Lion Question

2012-08-08 Thread Missy Hoppe
I'd love an answer to this too. It's a minor annoyance, but if its something
that can be fixed, it would make Mountain Lion
virtually perfect for me. Like you, I've unchecked the kind column with no
effect. I liked the way finder was read in
previous versions of OSX, and for me, list view is vastly preferable to the
other options, but changing to another view
doesn't solve the problem and just makes things even weirder, at least for me.
So, if you find an answer to this, please let
me know. (smile)

Hi all,

Is there any way to stop VoiceOver from anouncing the kind of item you are
focused on in finder? I've disabled the Kind
column in the view options, but I still hear things like, "application",
"folder", "wave audio file", "unix executable file",
etc.

RE: Infovox ivox mananger/voices

2012-08-08 Thread Missy Hoppe
If they ever make it possible to use acapella voices with vo on Ios devices,
I'd start saving up for an IPhone right away. As
it is, my one of the things I'm dreading the most, apart from having to learn
the touch screen, is dealing with Samantha on a
constant basis. I can't explain why, but that voice just irritates me beyond
all reason. It's why I bought a booksense
instead of a victor reader. I'm sure it would be possible to make infovox
voices for IOS, and I understand that they'd have
to be purchased separately, but I sure wish they'd make it allowable to use
voices from other venders. Nuance is seriously
over-rated in my opinion . Infovox voices are great, and if there's no way to
make Alex for IOS, I think we should be able to
use infovox if we want to. I have Acapella Rachel on my antique htc s743
windows 6.1 cell phone, and she works great!

Re: Infovox ivox mananger/voices

2012-08-08 Thread erik burggraaf
I've strongly suggested to apple accessibility a number of times that they open
up the speech api to the system so that voices can be used across applications,
but that's not apple's way. That's why I'm an android user even though the
accessibility is a bit behind compared to the IPhone. I just feel more
comfortable being able to choose my speech, my input device, my non-proprietary
peripherals.

Re: Setting activities

2012-08-08 Thread Alex Hall
You have to select an application with which to associate the activity if you
want this to happen automatically. At the end of all the settings for the
activity should be a popup button; open that and select any applications in
which you want this activity to start. For instance, you may want to do this
for both Safari and App Store as both rely on html content. Once you are done,
that activity should turn on whenever you focus on any application set. Note,
however, that there will now be a delay of a second or three when switching to
or from the application(s) as vo switches to and from the activity. If all else
fails, vo-x will let you pick from all the activities you have created.

It's been driving me mad, and I'd like to get rid of it if I can.

iCloud?

2012-08-08 Thread Kliphton
Okay, trying to help a friend set up an iCloud account. We enter all his info,
double check it, then submit. We except both sets of terms and conditions, it
says something about cannot sign in, there was a server error, but your account
was created, try signing in. We do what the message tells us, and it says the
apple ID or password is incorrect. I click forgot password, and enter the
apple ID, but once we go to enter the birthday for the security options, it
says the info is not correct. We've done this on 2 accounts, and same end
result. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to keep creating accounts
until this works. Is there a contact email I can send these details too?
Thanks.

Re: Setting activities

2012-08-08 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
I believe the first column in that table is "name of activity." So, you might
call it "Safari VO," or something; I'm not really sure what the purpose of
naming an activity is, other than to quickly identify it, which seems redundant
since activities themselves are application specific.

Re: Infovox ivox mananger/voices

2012-08-08 Thread Esther
Hi Krysti,

You can sample the Infovox iVox voices yourself to check the quality at the
AssistiveWare web page:
http://www.assistiveware.com/product/infovox-ivox/voices

They're grouped alphabetically by language. English is listed as "English --
American English" and "English -- British English". You can navigate to the
language category you want (e.g., using item chooser menu, VO-i, if you want to
skip over other languages), then set your web rotor (VO-u) to links, and
VO-space to play the samples.

Re: sorting randomly tracks in playlist before burning

2012-08-08 Thread Esther
Hi Andrew,

The way to randomize your playlist is to use a smart playlist. Just after the
rules section there's a checkbox with limit conditions. So, for example, if I
wanted to create a random playlist of as many of my purchased iTunes tracks as
would fit onto a CD, I might have a rule like "Playlist" "is" "New Purchases"
and then check the box after the rules section and specify "Limit to 700 MB
selected by random". The limit lets you set a menu popup to specify time
(minutes or hours), size (MB or GB), or items for the quantity you type in the
text box. Then there's a selection popup menu for your criteria, which can be
"random" or tag fields like "album", "artist", "genre", or "name", or your
rating ("highest" or "lowest"), or according to how recently or frequently you
play the tracks or whether you want the most recently added tracks.

The size limit specification is good for playlists that you easy burn to CDs or
DVDs or that you want to transfer to an iOS device. The time limit is
convenient if you want to make a playlist to fill up the time for your commute
or to make a workout playlist for time in a gym. You can get very elaborate
about ways to construct your playlists, by using smart playlists that apply
conditional selections to other regular or smart playlists, especially if these
are used on iPods or iOS devices that support live updating. So if you
decided to make a smart playlist to listen to items in your music library that
you hadn't played in the last three months, and had the live updating box
checked, your iPod, iPhone, or iPad would also keep track of items you listened
to on that device, and not repeat any of those tracks when you play from your
smart playlist. Further, if you sync your smart playlist and device, the
iTunes library on your Mac would also update with the information of which
tracks you had played on your device, and not include them when you played from
the same smart playlist on your computer.

And the easiest example of using live updating when playing from a smart
playlist on an iPod or iOS device is to construct one for listening to an
audiobook consisting of multiple mp3 tracks. Add a rule like "Plays is 0", and
play your book from the smart playlist. As soon as you finish listening to a
track, the play counter increments, and it drops off of your smart playlist.
So the currently playing track in your smart playlist is always to latest track
that you haven't finished listening to, because your device updates the
information on whether or not that track was played. By contrast, a regular
playlist for that audiobook or a smart playlist that did not "live update" when
played on your device, away from iTunes on your computer, would always start at
the first track in the playlist.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: Voice Changer that Works Through Skype

2012-08-08 Thread Chris Blouch
It also depends on how much security is required. If they need
obfuscation then you doing a pitch drop can just as easily be undone by
somebody else. I wouldn't rely on tools built just for fun if you're
really in need of protecting somebody's identity. Might be best to just
have them send text and record it being read by VoiceOver. Anything that
is driven by the original audio can be unmasked.

Re: office headset?

2012-08-08 Thread Esther
Hi Kliphton, Emrah, Sarah, and Others,

That was an interesting bit of information on the Plantronics headset model.
I'll paste in the descriptive information I found about it, and the source URL
for the description, which is probably not the best place to buy from. The web
page was at Business Telecom Products, Inc. and was titled, "Plantronics
Headset & Amp Customized for Visually Impaired or Dictation"
Model for the device, as Kliphton stated, is PL-SMH1783-11

Source URL:
http://www.btpi.com/_PL-SMH1783-11_Visually-Impaired-HS/Amp.htm

Plantronics Custom Headset for Visually Impaired or Dictation

• May be used for 2 applications: for a visually impaired person or for someone
who needs to do dictation and be on phone calls
• For visually impaired application: listen to the telephone call in left ear,
while the keystrokes are announced in right ear
• For dictation: listen to dication in right ear and listen to telephone calls
in left ear
• Includes custom Plantronics Supra H61 headset and M22 amplifier (not
pictured) with separate monitor receiver for simultaneous telephone and
computer or dictation applications
• Short pigtail cord on the M22 amplifier plugs into the handset port of a
standard telephone (compatible with any phone that a Plantronics M22 is
compatible with)
• Adjustable telephone-side receive level
• Adjustable transmit on amplifier
• Quick disconnect on headset cord attaches to 10 foot coil cord on amplifier
• Includes both a 3.5mm 2-conductor and 3.5mm 3-conductor connection to monitor
• Headset is non-noise cancelling voice tube with omnidirectional microphone
• Please view pdf datasheet for detailed drawing
• Actual lead time may take up to 6 weeks
• 2 year Plantronics manufacturer's warranty

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

And upon further digging in to this, it seems they don't even sell it anymore.
It would have to be special ordered, and goes for around 300 bucks, not in my
budget, even as a business owner. I have been contacted by another person on a
different list, and she has a different one she got less than a year ago, I
will be hearing back from her today if anyone is itristed, contact me off list.

Re: office headset?

2012-08-08 Thread Esther
Amazon lists one new for $310 and one used for $193.71. But yes, my initial
impression was that this headset was expensive. Even the discounted prices
seem to be around $260.

Esther

vo repeating rows in mail?

2012-08-08 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
In mail, I often get to hear a row multiple times. Vo will start to read it,
then start over, and sometimes start over a second time. It's something I am
used to, but sometimes it really gets on my nerves, especially when vo is
halfway through reading the preview of the message and then decides to start at
the beginning. I doubt it, but is there a way to stop this from happening?

Hello again,
Thank you for the clarification. I'll file an enhancement request that after
closing a calendar
notification VoiceOver focus/cursor be returned to it's last position.
Unfortunately we cannot comment on when this may be implemented. In the
meantime one way of continuing would be
to use VO-D and then utilize the dock to get back to your chosen application.

I hope this helps for anybody who has this problem also,

Re: vo repeating rows in mail?

Hi,

I believe that this has to do with GMail and iMap. As the GMail servers are
removing your deleted messages from your computer, it kind of hiccups causing
the repetition. You'll probably notice that this primarily happens when you're
going through messages deleting the conversations that you're not interested in
and/or simply deleting threads.

Can't see my folders under iCloud account in Mountain Lion

2012-08-08 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Listers,

I am beginning to experiment with Mountain Lion. In Mail, I can't see any of my
folders which I have under my iCloud account. I went on the web and connected
to my iCloud account via the browser, and I can see all my folders are there
but when I open Mail in Mountain Lion, I can't see them at all. In my gmail
account I can see all the folders but not under iCloud. I don't think my iCloud
is collapsed, Voiceover does not say so, nor do any attempts to expand work. I
have so far only used the classic view in Mail as I am too uncertain of using
the standard view. Any thoughts? If iCloud is not collapsed, then where are my
folders?

I think, the solution should come from safari/chrome... not from voiceover.

With jaws of windows, you can simply set to disable frames in ie or firefox.

Without unnecessary frames or without frames at all, we shouldn't interact that
much on a website and we could search for all elements on the screen.

Any hints are greatly appreciated,

Software update under Mountain Lion

2012-08-08 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Listers,

In Mountain Lion, when I select software update, I am taken to the app store.
My question is, does this also check for any possible updates to drivers and
other pieces of software, does this only check for the apps I have purchased
through the appstore? In Lion and previous operating systems, when I launched
software update and, let's say, a new driver was available for my printer,
software update would find it.

Thanks for your continuing fantastically generous support.

creating a boot USB drive

2012-08-08 Thread Shen
Hi everyone,
I attempted to create a bootable USB drive with the Mountain Lion disk
image. I have a 16gb USB drive. I was using Disk Utilities.
I started the restore, Disk Utilities began writing blocks, and after about
10 minutes, started the verification process. Somewhere after that, it quit
and gave me a "Restore failure, invalid argument" message.
Anyone know what's going on? The "invalid argument" is not very informative.

apple, icloud, and security.

2012-08-08 Thread Karen Lewellen

  Hi folks,
I share this article from Wired magazine. It is on line, and an amazing
commentary on many things.
actually the steps these hackers took, easy enough for anyone to do,
reminded me of the guy caught in California for getting into more than 50
women's facebook accounts, just using stuff all can find on their wall.
I agree with the author, it might have been worse, if the hackers had been
in the mood. the mood they were in was bad enough, careless indifference
can do as much harm as intentional destruction.
The other aspect of social commentary is beyond the scope of this list.
why anyone feels the *need* to chain their life together like this, to
follow others on twitter etc.
One fundamental fact remains from the start of computing...back. it. up.
always!

 Enjoy,
Karen

How Apple and Amazon Security Flaws Led to My Epic Hacking

 * By Mat Honan

 * August 6, 2012 |
 * 8:01 pm |

 *

Meet Mat Honan. He just had his digital life dissolved by
hackers.

In the space of one hour, my entire digital life was
destroyed. First my Google account was taken over, then deleted.
Next my Twitter account was compromised, and used as a platform
to broadcast racist and homophobic messages. And worst of all, my
AppleID account was broken
into, and my hackers used it to remotely erase all of the data
on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook.

In many ways, this was all my fault. My accounts were
daisy-chained together. Getting into Amazon let my hackers get
into my Apple ID account, which helped them get into Gmail, which
gave them access to Twitter. Had I used two-factor authentication
for my Google account, it's possible that none of this would
have happened, because their ultimate goal was always to take
over my Twitter account and wreak
   havoc. Lulz.

Had I been regularly backing up the data on my MacBook, I
wouldn't have had to worry about losing more than a year's worth
of photos, covering the entire lifespan of my daughter, or
documents and e-mails that I had stored in no other location.

Those security lapses are my fault, and I deeply, deeply
regret them.

But what happened to me exposes vital security flaws in
several customer service systems, most notably Apple's and
Amazon's. Apple tech support gave the hackers access to my iCloud
account. Amazon tech support gave them the ability to see a piece
of information -- a
partial credit card number -- that Apple used to release
information.
In short, the very four digits that Amazon considers
unimportant enough
to display in the clear on the web are precisely the same ones
that Apple considers secure enough to perform identity
verification. The disconnect exposes flaws in data management

Hello,

I have a question, as a person who has never used the Reader:

How do you tell the reader which text on a particular web page to read?

I am eager to give this a try.

I believe someone said Command+R toggles the reader?

Thank you,

Mark

Re: toggle reader?

2012-08-08 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
Command Shift R toggles the reader. It looks for a huge chunk of text and puts
a frame around it. It's an attempt by Safari to be sort of AI within context.
Usually it works pretty well, but on crowded pages, sometimes images get mixed
in with even the largest chunks of text.

Re: Can't see my folders under iCloud account in Mountain Lion

Hi,

Did you look at the iCloud that is below the "On My Mac" item? Depending on
what mail accounts you have and how many folders reside in the mailboxes, it
could be quite a way down. In my case, my Work and Home accounts are listed
above the iCloud one so I have to go way down to confirm that iCloud is
expanded.

I can't open folders from my dock.

2012-08-08 Thread Chris Gilland
OK, before I start, I do not think this is a bug. I kind of remember that
there was a setting that I have to change to make this work, but I don't
remember what nor where.

Basically, I have a couple of folders in my dock. Obviously, my downloads, my
documents, my trash, etc. but in addition to that, there are a couple of other
folders which I access very very frequently that I have manually added from the
finder with command+shift+T to my dock. I can't figure out though after doing
vo+D and focusing on the folders, how to open them. Return isn't working, and
neither is space bar, nor is command+O. The only two ways I've found is to hit
vo+shift+m to open the shortcut menu, then vo+space on Open, or more
confusingly, route my mouse with vo+command+F5, then vo+shift+space twice to do
a double click.

I remember there being a way to get it where return would open it, I kind of
remember something about changing the apearance to list or something. I'm
drawing a blank on how you guys back in the days when I was borrowing my
friend's macbook had me set that up. Was hopeing you all could refresh my
memory on how to do this.

Thanks.

Chris.

That's correct. The text of the heading is the same. And if you click on
the link for the brf zip file, you will see that the file name is
"voiceOver_Mountain_Lion.zip".
And if you click on the link to buy the hardcopy, it redirects you to the

How Apple and Amazon Security Flaws Led to My Epic Hacking

 * By Mat Honan

 * August 6, 2012 |
 * 8:01 pm |

The disconnect exposes flaws in data management
policies endemic to the entire technology industry, and points to
a looming nightmare as we enter the era of cloud computing and
connected devices.

This isn't just my problem. Since Friday, Aug. 3, when hackers
broke into my accounts, I've heard from other users who were
compromised in the same way, at least o

Re: I can't open folders from my dock.

2012-08-08 Thread Esther
Hi Chris and Others,

In order to be viewable by VoiceOver, folders in your dock have to be set to
view content as "List" and display as "Folder". The default is to display as
"Stack" and view as either "Fan" or "Automatic". In this mode, VoiceOver
doesn't display the contents in a format you can browse when you try to view
them. Use your contextual menu (VO-Shift-M) to set up these options one at a
time.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: iTunes promting me for password

2012-08-08 Thread Tim Kilburn
Are these items purchased content through iTunes?
In either case, iTunes is likely trying to access the Store when it opens.

By default, when you open an item from the Desktop, or any other location for
that matter, iTunes will make a copy of those items in its own iTunes Library.
Therefore, instead of accessing them from the Desktop, go into iTunes first and
then play the songs from there. You can also place all the items from that
folder on your Desktop into a Playlist if you wish so that they remain
together. The iTunes media player is more than just a player so it prefers to
have it's media cataloged and residing within its Library. For those used to
some other media players, this is difficult to get used to but after you do, it
is easy to work with and quite a powerful media manager.

Re: Can't see my folders under iCloud account in Mountain Lion

2012-08-08 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Dear tim,

I feel such a fool! I've just went to the machine where I have mountain lion
installed, opened Mail again, and interacted with the list of mailboxes, and
this time I did find the iCloud mailbox which reported to be collapsed. I
expanded it and there they were, all my folders. I can't explain why I couldn't
see them before but I swear I did go many a time through the mailbox list both
interacting and not interacting with the list. I can't think what suddenly
changed in order for me to see the iCloud mailbox in the position you had
described.

I hope I didn't waste your time, Tim. Thanks a million.

VIP Mail and Strange behaviours in my mailbox list.

2012-08-08 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hello.

I got my VIP folder set up in mail but now I seem to have duplicated items i.e.
the items were already saved in another mail folder but now the items are saved
in two mailboxes. Can I delete one lot of items or will the items be deleted
in both mailboxes?

My other problem is now in the mailboxes table as well as the VIP mailbox, I
also have another mailbox underneath which is called my contact recipient's
name is this supposed to happen? Also if I move further down the mailbox list,
I have another mailbox called Today. This happened when I created a VIP or
perhaps a rule. If I delete Today will the mail get deleted out of my inbox?

Your replies are most welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Kawal.

Thanks in advance.

Re: I can't open folders from my dock.

2012-08-08 Thread Chris Gilland
OK Ester, that is bringing up a menu when I hit return on the folder now. OK,
one of the options says open in finder, but still it's bringing up the sub
folders within the folder in a contextual menu as sub menus. Can I not get it
where it literally by default when I hit return on the folder in the doc, it
opens in a full fledged Finder window instead of a contextual menu?

Chris.

Re: Can't see my folders under iCloud account in Mountain Lion

2012-08-08 Thread Tim Kilburn
No problem Andrew. I've found that, sometimes, especially after a weekend,
gremlins invade computer technology and mess with things just because they can.
I realize this isn't after a weekend but it just happens anyway.

Have a good one.

Re: Favorite mailbox question

2012-08-08 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

You'll notice in your Favourites bar that the InBox is listed first. That is
cmd-1. You need to drag your Mac List mailbox folder into the second position
in order for cmd-2 to activate that mailbox. Dragging is sometimes a bit of
fun but work with it a bit and hopefully it'll drop there fore you.

Audio Hijack Pro, Weirdness when Selecting Days of the week?

2012-08-08 Thread Al Puzzuoli

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to get my head around what's happening in Audio Hijack Pro
when I attempt to schedule recordings on certain weekdays. I select the
"every pop-up button, and then use VO-right arrow to navigate through
the days of the week list and check the ones I desire. however, it seems
like the very act of navigating between these check boxes with VO-left
and right is changing a setting. If I tab through the list and check
each desired day with the space bar, my recording is scheduled
correctly. However, if I ever inadvertently VO into that list of days,
my settings are lost, and it reverts back to scheduling recordings on
every Monday. Are there any fixes for this or is it just one of those
small annoyances in life we need to work around?

Thanks,

Al

Re: Voice Changer that Works Through Skype

2012-08-08 Thread Kevin Shaw
I should have been more specific. The person is being interviewed live on the
radio via Skype. It's important that we protect the person's identity for
reasons of privacy and safety. the interview cannot be pre taped, as the
interviewee insists on doing the interview live.

So, again, if anyone knows of software that can achieve this, I'd be most
grateful.

Yes, Al, I noticed this, too. Tab with spacebar is the best bet. You could also
turn cursor tracking off and then use VO to check the boxes, but that seems
like the long way round. I don't have an explanation for this behavior, but the
workaround is quite doable, so I haven't really pursued it.

Re: Getting Mission Control out of the way.

2012-08-08 Thread Veronica Elsea
Hi there!
Less is right. There are other things you may or may not want to uncheck in
that list. You'll find control-left-arrow, and F12, hich opens dash board, or
at least it did in Lion. But there is also F11 to open the desktop. I
like to use that one sometimes, so I don't uncheck that box. That's why a good
old-fashioned snoop is in order here. Have fun!

That's probably what's happening in a lot of cases.

Organizing files and folders

2012-08-08 Thread Veronica Elsea
Hi everyone!
This discussion of setting up folders reminded me of a question I've had for a
long time. Coming from the Windows world, when I'd go into my documents folder,
I was used to finding the folders listed first, then all of the files in
alphabetical order. It drives me crazy having the file and folder names all
mixed up together like this. Is there any way to sort things so that I see
folders first? Just curious. Thanks.

Veronica

Re: Setting activities

2012-08-08 Thread Alex Hall
What do you mean by "you can't multi-sleect in the applications menu"? You can
associate an activity with multiple applications, if you are saying this cannot
be done.

Re: Organizing files and folders

2012-08-08 Thread rashantha de silva
Hi Veronica
There is no easy way to do this. I could probably write a script to do this and
If I do I will post it.

You have to edit the InfoPlist.strings file of the Finder.app

It is located in HD > System > Library > Core services > Finder.app (show
package contents) > Resources > InfoPlist.strings

You have to edit the text Finder = " Folder"; (add a space)

Re: Solution to Multiple Messages in Mail.app and a question about VIP's

2012-08-08 Thread Garth Humphreys
I love the way the gmail filters work and cannot imagine wanting to remove them
in favor of local ones on my Mac. I just don't seem to have the problems some
do. One thought, check if you have "show related messages " checked under mail
viewing preferences. This will cause already deleted messages to show up in
conversations.
