Re: Garage band question

2012-05-27 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
I am selling for $35.00 a tutorial which is over 3 hours long on using
Garage Band with Voiceover and definitely covers what you're trying to do.

Let me know if interested.

Subject: Garage band question

Happy wekend all!
Does anyone out there know how to work with Garage Band?
I am trying to throw a little jingle together and when I add different
sounds they all get placed at the same point in the timeline so they all
play at once. It's not even the beginning either. There is like 15 seconds
of silence then all the noise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to write me off list.

Re: Air play compatible speaker systems

2012-05-27 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi,
I bought, and am very satisfied with the Libratone Live. It's one unit that
contains two speakers. If really wide stereo spread is your thing, then this
isn't for you, otherwise the system is great. I never thought that a box that
small could pump forth that kind of sound. The Libratone speakers also have a
totally accessible IOs app that lets you control various settings of the
speaker. I think it's well worth a listen.

Slow? I would say so. You can't check the time with the keystroke at all if

Re: Simple yet powerful to do list saught

2012-05-27 Thread Garth Humphreys
I went through a phase of downloading numerous todo apps. I settled on an app
called todo by appigo. The IOS version is completely accessible and is a bit
more powerful than your average todo or reminder style app. If your in to GTD
then you'll probably like the app. It will sync with the Mac version. This is
not quite as accessible, mostly doable but not as nice as the IOS version. You
can sync via iCloud or dropbox amongst others. It's not as cheap as some of the
other solutions.

Todo List is available on the iPhone as well as the mac. I can't remember why I
didn't settle on it. It was perfectly fine, I don't think it had enough options
for setting reoccurring items.

I guess they meant that it would be slow if you didn't have theAllow VoiceOver
to be controlled with AppleScript check box checked.

Re: Time machine backup and time capsule

2012-05-27 Thread Kirsten Edmondson
Hi,
I unplugged it and replugged in again as recommended. I still couldn't get it
to do a backup. I have tried to go into all the settings. I restarted it via
airport utility. Then it disappeared and I had to go and pull out the ether net
cables before it could recognise it again.
Now it appears as a disk and I have made sure it is my default. But now it's
complaining that it isn't part of the server.
In time machine menu too it says time machine not configured.
It's also saying system preferences busy and I can't seem to get it to do
anything!
Before I got to this stage, I wondered if I needed to update my airport
utility. Does the Mac automatically do that as part of the updates process? Cos
I can't find out how to update Airport Utility. I think this is probably an
obsolete question now as I think I've gone too far into messing up the whole
thing!
This is what happens when you trust your boyfriend to know everything about it
and then he becomes your ex ... 2 months later things like this happen and I am
none-the-wiser thanks to my own enforced ignorance!

the audio to start, then Command+Y to move the insertion point there, then
press command+option+V to paste the audio on your clipboard to a new track.

I am trying to throw a little jingle together and when I add different
sounds they all get placed at the same point in the timeline so they all
play at once. It's not even the beginning either. There is like 15 seconds
of silence then all the noise.

 Hi All,
I don't know how many mac users their might be on this list, but I
 thought
I'd pass along information about an accessible mud client I found
 recently.
It's on the Mac App Store and is called Mudder.
THere are some quirks with this program, but it's a great first
 effort, and
does what you'd expect. You can set it to speak text automatically
 using the
system voice, which it does reliably, and it's fully accessible with
VoiceOver. I get the impression it's frequently updated, and new
 features
 will be forthcoming.
The program currently costs $4.99. I can say that I'd love to have one
 less
reason to boot into my Windows virtual machine, and so I thought I'd
 pass
this along in case anyone else is in the same boat.
 ENjoy,
 Zack.

Re: Amadeus Pro wasGarage band question

You'll have two tracks, one with the original sound and the second with the
pasted. When you play back you'll hear both sounds. When your finished you can
down mix to one track by bouncing the tracks.

Re: Time machine backup and time capsule

2012-05-27 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

It sounds
like you should reconfigure Time Machine and thus repoint your Mac to that Time
Capsule for performing the Time Machine backups. This process should only
affect the Time Capsule disk and the Time Machine setup and thus should not
affect the other wireless and Internet settings.

• go into Airport Utility.
• Select your Time Capsule and press the Edit button.
• Select the Disk tab.
• Select the disk on the TC.
• Here you can reformat it if you wish and reset the password. Reformating is
not a bad idea just to clean the entire thing up. Only do this though if you
don't also store other info on it. Reset the password so that it is something
meaningful to you.
• Press the Update button and wait a couple of minutes for it to restart and
re-establish all connectivity.
• Now go up to the Time Machine menu (VO-m-m and arrow to the appropriate menu).
• Arrow down to the Open Time Machine Preferences item and press return.
• Press the Change Backup Location button.
• Select the disk on your TC and then the Choose button.
• It should ask you for the password. Enter it.

That should do it. The System Preferences spinning thing should have nothing
to do with this thing other than possibly searching for the Time Machine HD
that it couldn't find but this process should relieve that issue. Let me know
if you still have problems.

Thanks.

Re: Garage band question

Hi,

Yes. I work with Garageband daily. Check out the podcasts I've done on
garageband at www.appletothecore.info. You can also find them in the iTunes
store. Just do a search for Ricardo Walker. If you need further assistance,
you can e-mail off list.

Happy wekend all!
Does anyone out there know how to work with Garage Band?
I am trying to throw a little jingle together and when I add
different sounds they all get placed at the same point in the
timeline so they all play at once. It's not even the beginning
either. There is like 15 seconds of silence then all the noise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to write me off list.

Voicebook Vo

2012-05-27 Thread chris hallsworth
Just downloaded the app listed in the subject line. The first time I got
this app, it was the wrong one. The app is called Voicebook Vo and not
just Voicebook. After getting the error contacting Facebook twice it
finally refreshed my feed. How slick is the app! I like the ability to
swipe up or down to view my feed! I would however like it to stop
refreshing every minute or so. I may contact the developers to suggest
this. But to post your status for example all I have to do is double tap
on the feed, and double tap post status in the options that appear.
Write your status and double tap save. You can then see it appear in
your news feed momentarily.
For those who don't have the app, try this link.

Re: Time machine backup and time capsule

2012-05-27 Thread Kirsten Edmondson
Hi,
I have no idea what I did or how it suddenly did this, but I spent several
hours going seemingly round in circles with it. Then suddenly, it started a
backup and not wanting to crow too soon, I waited and it finished after an hour
and a bit. I presume-hope-that all should be well now ... don't know what it
was playing at, and I will keep checking the tm menu to see about the last
backup. I'll keep your instructions Tim, in case it messes up again ...
Thanks.

Hi,

if you have 2 option keys, isn't one to the left, and one to the right of the

Re: Amadeus Pro wasGarage band question

2012-05-27 Thread Maria Chapman
Hi. thanks I'll look also going to check out your pod casts on gb I'll have
the option of using different apps depending on what i need to do.

found one tutorial but it only looked like it was half there. it covered basic
editing but didn't explain how to mix tracks or how to change the time on one
track so that you could say have music for a bit and the voice coming in later
and then mayber a sound at a certain point etc.

lol and this post is about as clear as mud.

Blessings! Maria Joe and loving guide Karly.

Does anyone out there know how to work with Garage Band?
I am trying to throw a little jingle together and when I add different
sounds they all get placed at the same point in the timeline so they
all play at once. It's not even the beginning either. There is like 15
seconds of silence then all the noise.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to write me off list.

Sorry if the instructions weren't clear enough. I'll try to put together a

I am by no means an expert on Amadeus Pro but can show you a few things to get

Re: Amadeus Pro wasGarage band question

2012-05-27 Thread Garth Humphreys
Sorry if the instructions weren't clear enough. I'll try to put together a
quick demo of how to do what you want and post it on my site at
iblindtech.com
I am by no means an expert on Amadeus Pro but can show you a few things to get
started.

Bizarre problem with Carbon Copy Cloner

2012-05-27 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Last night, I connected my external USB 300GB drive to my macbook, as I
figured I would download and install a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner. I wnet
though and read probably 85-90 percent of the documentation that comes with
the app. Following the directions, I got the internal Macintosh HD volume
correctly cloned, by the looks of it. I did make sure to partition the
external drive with the guid scheme, 1 partition, mac extended journaled.
This is precisely what the help files said to do.

My copy of Snow Leopard definitely! sees that OSX 10.6.8 is on the external
drive, and when I look in my Finder, everything seems to be properly intact.
The bottom line is, the clone seemed to work perfectly. Now, here's the
catch though.

When I go to system preferences, then to startup disk, I definitely do see
both volumes as startup disks. However, if I try to set the startup disk to
my rescue volume, which by the way, I did title that volume as "Rescue"...
If I then hit restart, the system boots perfectly, but looking under the
Apple Menu at About this Mac, I notice that it says the startup disk is
Macintosh HD, not! Rescue. This leads me to think it's still! somehow
booting from the internal drive, not from my external rescue disk. I even
with sighted help, hit the option key and held it down at startup, and
tabbed to the rescue volume, and then hit return.

Just to really! verify a test if I was booted to the external drive but
getting a false reporting, on the supposed external startup disk, I went
into Text Edit, and created a file called integrity.txt. In this file,
which by the way, I saved in my Documents folder, I simply just wrote:
"This is a test." Once the file was correctly saved, I went back to system
prefs, startup disk, and switched it back to the internal Macintosh HD
volume. I then restarted, and disconnected the external drive from the USB
port.

Once booted, I went to the documents folder. Sure enough, there was my
integrity.txt file. That tells me I saved it on the internal volume, which
means I was definitely not booted to the external drive. Had I been, that
file now would not have shown up. So, I am totally perplexed. The
documentation states I believe it's in the section about preparing your
backup which is underneath the getting started section, that Western Digital
drives with enclosures are known to do this, and not boot. My drive is not
in an enclosure, for one thing, and for two, it states that if you're on a
PPC, you will not be able to boot from USB. This isn't the case for me
either, as I have a mid 2010 13 inch stocked white polli-carbon macbook
which came shipped with Snow Leopard. I made at that time nor now
absolutely no customizations. This is totally a stocked system in ment tip
top condition.

When I looked past the presets in CCC, where I had it said to temporarily
archive etc. just as the docs advised to do, I saw no errors the whole way
through the cloning process that would indicate that the volume would not be
bootable.

So, yeah, I don't know if the Efi is just not correctly seeing things, or
what the heck the deal is. I can put a bootable OSX DVD in my drive, and at
start up hold down the C key, and that works great! I also have another
external drive, which has an installation of Lion on it. If I plug that in,
I can either go to the boot menu, with the option key at startup, and boot
to it fine, or I can switch over to it through system prefs, and that, too
works fine. I've tried both USB ports as well, just in case one was falty
somehow, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The two ports are working
properly. I've also repaired permissions on the external disk with disk
utility, and even have done a disk repair on the volume. That did no good
either.

I'm almost at the point of firing off an e-mail to tech support, but I
wanted first to see if any of you had any ideas.

Both the drives I mentioned in this message that were external are both
Seagate drives. Neither of them have enclosures.

Thanks for any help.

Chris.

Re: Voicebook Vo

2012-05-27 Thread Amber Pearcy
Apologies for the previous message. Let me try again.
I really like the app, but I would like to mention one problem that I
have encounter while viewing the news feed. When I double tap on an
entry to like it and/or comment on it, there is no button for
navigating back to the news feed. My only solution at this point is to
close the app and rrstart. Has anyone discovered a better work-around?
I should probably alert the developer to the problem.
Otherwise, I look forward to what's in store for this app.

There is a "done button on the pages in which you post material. I don't
remember where it is exactly, because I use Braille, but I think it's in the

Re: Time Shortcut Key

2012-05-27 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

What Mac are you using, and how old is it? I've never seen a Macbook with 1
option key. the keys on the bottom row, from left to right should be, FN,
control, option, command, spacebar, command, then option again.

showing hidden files/folders in Lion

2012-05-27 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi folks,

is there an Apple script out there that can show/hide hidden files/folders in
Lion? If not, can someone instruct me on how to make such an apple script?
I've seen terminal commands to do this but, I would like to be able to use such
commands with VO's keyboard and trackpad commanders.

TIA.

Re: Time Shortcut Key

2012-05-27 Thread Anne Robertson
On older laptops, there is no Option key on the right. This is the case on my
five-year-old white MacBook. The key to the right of the Command key is an
Enter key, not to be confused with the Return key.

In these cases, you can choose to use the left-hand Option key for the Keyboard
Commander.

Cheers,

Anne
