Re: OT: Any Web Designers Out Here?

2012-04-26 Thread erik burggraaf
Hi Christine,

It's actually much cheeper to design things accessibly from the ground up.
Bolting on something later can get quite expensive. We are seeing a trend
towards universal design over the last few years, especially with all the work
apple has done, but I'm afraid there will always be some inconsiderate people
out there.

Problem with downloading files

2012-04-26 Thread Stacey Robinson
Hi all,
I want to download an mp3 file from accessible world. Each time I try this the
file starts to play.
How do I tell my mac to just download the mp3 without playing it?
I'm running Snow Leopard.
Thanks,

Try routing VO to the link then press option-return. That should start the

Function Key Remapping.

2012-04-26 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

Does any one know how to successfully remap function keys F13-F19?
I've looked in system preferences/keyboard/keyboard shortcuts/application
shortcuts, and created a shortcut, but it does not work.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Question About Flash

I subscribe to a site that shows video sports features from time to time. I
have installed the click to flash and the youtube5 extension. In the past I was

video. For the past few weeks I've been getting the following error 404 Error
loading Vimeo video. I've googled it but haven't really found anything to go on
so far. Anyone have any ideas?

Bootcamp questions

2012-04-26 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I am still lost as to which adapter to get for my vga monitor, and so
I still use Windows 99% of the time. I am using a Mini (summer 2011)
with 2gb of ram and running Windows 7 64 bit. I have two questions
about bootcamp:

1. Windows seems to slow way down, especially operations involving the
hard drive, after a while of use (hours, if that, not days).
Restarting fixes it, but not for long. Does anyone have suggestions as
to what I can try to get things running normally again? I know I
should upgrade my ram, but I never go above 80% ram usage and usually
am in the sixties, so I doubt ram is the problem.

2. Perhaps related to the above: how do I update bootcamp, or at least
ensure I have the latest bootcamp version, or drivers, or whatever
they are? I see a lot of forums that say you should make sure bootcamp
is up to date, but how? The bootcamp control panel has nothing useful
in it that I saw, and I'm not even sure how to see which version I
have or if I need to be in Mac OS or Windows to do this.

Thanks for any suggestions, especially regarding question 1, as my
computer is all but useless some of the time and NVDA often slows down
or crashes, and I'm fairly certain it is related to the overall
problem.

Conecting a Romeo pro 50 to a Mac Mini Using Louis Braille translator

2012-04-26 Thread Timothy Emmons
Hi guys, this is Tim in Alabama. I'm still stumped on something and thought you
might be able to help. I have a Romeo pro 50 here, with a serrial connection
using a serrial to Usb adapter. I am tryng to use it with Louis Braille the
free translator that was out for the mac, and I know it can emboss but I' not
sure how to set up the printer to work. If anyone has any ideas on what
settings I need on the printer, now to get to them, and what they need to be
before Louis can recognize it and print from the serrial to usb adapter i have,
that would be great. Thanks and take care, hope to hear from you soon. This is
the mac Mni at work, running snowleopard by the way. Thanks and take care.

Re: RSS feeds that have made new and duplicate mailboxes in my list

I believe you don't need the mailboxes any longer if they messages are
showing up in your inbox. However, you might want to experiment with one feed
first to be sure.

Re: sendspace wizard problem

2012-04-26 Thread Caitlyn Furness
Have you tried rebooting the mac?

Also, if you're trying to paste something into the area to download something,
I find that using the keyboard shortcuts work a bunch better then just tabbing
around.
Option d gets you to the download field, for example. for me, none of the
fields reads well, like how much has downloaded already, how much left to go,
etc. that's never worked for me on the mac.

hth,
Caitlyn

Eric I could not agree more. I found a site that I would love to be in a
position to tell the devs what they need to do or direct them to a resource
that would help them make their site more accessible. I think the site is built
in html5 and java script. However, not being familiar with html5 I only see
stuff that tells me about the java script and a butt-load of style sheet
references. I should have kept up with all the html stuff, but unfortunately I
have not and so my knowledge is pretty limited now. :)
If you know where I can find a good set of references that could be shared
please let me know.

Re: Widgets and System Speech Rate Questions.

2012-04-26 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
1. SOme widgets can not easily be removed though you should be able to click
them to make them inactive. System provided widgets are not in your personal
Library, so I would expect the "delete" button would never appear. If they are
truely annoying you, then you should be able to search them out from the
/Library/ or /System/Library/ directories.

wrt your question on voice speed, there are two primary places to set this so
you will have to be more specific:
1. In Voice Over (VO-command-uparrow/downarrow) or in the VoiceOver Utility
under the speech tab.

Any application that is using non-voiceover speech output, (iChat, growl ...)
either has voice rate voice sync settings in its control panel, or else just
uses the default system voice settings found in the System Preferences.

If you need further explanation, I can provide that.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Re: syncing address book with google help please

2012-04-26 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi,

Thanks for replying. I guess I liked the idea of having some online record that
remains up to date. Partly I just wanted to get it going because it is supposed
to be possible. (smile)

My problem is however different. NO duplicates just no sync. I have no gmail
contacts and I configure sync in address book but afterwards there are still no
contacts in gmail. Is there something I need to set up in google to enable
sync?

I will make sure to keep a backup before I start this if it ever works.

Is this something I could bring up at apple store? Don't have phone support
anymore but still have warranty. Thanks for your advice.

Best

Growl issues

2012-04-26 Thread Jenny Keller
Every time I open growl with command O, it says growl has no window. I can't
figure out how to make it open any other way so I can use it for notifications
for skype, and yurufuku, or whatever that twitter ap is called.

Could someone please help?

You can't set up the growl options in the other aps unless growl is set up
first.

Thanks in advance.
