Re: Apple accessibility support phone number.

2012-03-17 Thread Gigi
Hi guys
Oh, I would like to commend Apple for doing that wonderful, time-saving, and
stress relieving thing!!! As one who spent an hour and a half last time with
Apple Care talking to three people and then ended up with a five minute Genius
Bar appointment, I am ecstatic.

I am going to put that number in my contacts right quick. It is very unlikely
that both my iPhone and my MacBook Pro will crash at the same time, so I will
make real sure I have it!
Thanks for letting us know.

Regards
GG

Re: air drop

2012-03-17 Thread Caitlyn Furness
I was trying to play around with this last night and still can't get it to work.

I'm trying to send a file to my husband's mac which is on our home network.
His wifi is definitely on and so is mine. First I went to where the file I
wanted to airdrop was and interacted with it and did vo comma, then I went to
my network and to the other mac and did command shift r for airdrop and did vo
period but it said that the item was no longer available for airdrop.

I know I'm doing something wrong, but just can't figure out what.

Thanks for any help..
Totally mystified,
Caitlyn

no you shouldn't as it's not a direct part of the apple care support system.

Buffering

2012-03-17 Thread Rahul Bajaj
Hi all,

My current Internet plan claims to provide a speed of 2 MB per second.
However, I find it extremely frustrating to watch any video on YouTube,
because the video keeps buffering all the time.
The site isn't even fully accessible, so I can't even pause the video until it
gets fully loaded.
Sometimes, absolutely nothing happens for about 5-10 minutes after I start the
video.

So, can I do anything to fix this?
Is there any app or extension which might help me?

Cheers,
Rahul

one could assume that this number can be used by any apple user throughout the
world. the only downside for those of us in the UK is the cost of that
particular call, unless you're on skype with enough credit available to do this.

Activation of Windows 7 on VM virtual machine

2012-03-17 Thread Bill Holton
Hi.

I do have a complete copy of Windows XP Ultimate that has never been used,
but I cannot install it in the VM Fusion4. I also have a license for a
Windows 7 professional upgrade. According to what I've read on the VM site,
the way to do this is to install from the upgrade media, but not to activate
the copy of windows. Then, do an anytime upgrade and use your key for this
upgrade. The trouble is, now Windows says I need to activate windows before
I do the upgrade, and when I try to activate it says I cannot activate from
this copy because the license is only an upgrade license.

Anyone have suggestions, or an email address to VM support?

Thanks.

Re: Buffering

2012-03-17 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Rahul,

Flash content is very resource-intensive. HTML5 media content is being used
more and more. Youtube has this trial going on:
http://www.youtube.com/html5
The player is built right into the HTML coding and is a much cleaner solution.

You can also install an extension for Safari, ClickToPlugin. This will convert
the flash players into HTML5 for Youtube and other sites.
http://hoyois.github.com/safariextensions/clicktoplugin/

Ironically, it seems that the plugin for Safari works best if the flash player
is updated to the latest version. This is Adobe Flash 11.

So my mistake is that there must be some way to do the anytime upgrade and

activate windows before I do the upgrade, and when I try to activate it

Anyone have suggestions, or an email address to VM support?

Thanks.

Re: Activation of Windows 7 on VM virtual machine

You do not use the Anytime Upgrade option at all. You instead run the
setup program for Windows 7 then choose the upgrade option.

What you do is upgrade your edition to the same edition, affectively doing a
repair install. Then you can use your key to activate the software.

Re: Accessible Apps And Games In Facebook?

I used to play one called My Zoo, which is basically webpages with a small
amount of Javascript on them. In this game, you build a zoo and increase your
resources by providing infrastructure to make customers happy. If you let it,
it will post pictures of baby animals you've acquired, and folks love that.

retagging files so that ITunes will organize them exactly how I want?

2012-03-17 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay,

I think maybe I worked out what was causing my ITunes to crash on me.
Actually, I suspect I have Lue to thank for it. He indicated that perhaps I
was trying to copy too large a number of files in to a space that could not
handle it. So, copy a small number of files, then, delete them from their
original location keeping only the ITunes made copies. Now, what I want to do
before I test this all out and report back is that I want to retag all these
files in such a way that ITunes will place it's copies so that they are
organized according to factors I choose. To give an example, I've got some
files tagged with artists' names; but, many are not. Therefore, these loose
untagged files get dropped in to the unknown artist and unknown album folders.
How do I change the tag info so that it's correct so that if I make a folder
called "audio" and I want ITunes to drop all my loose audio there, how do I
make it do that? I guess what I'm really looking for here is a way to change
the tag info without having to go threw ITunes to do it. the info under
command+I doesn't seem to let me do that.

Also, let's say I finish adding all my files; and, I discover that I feel like
renaming a folder or moving the file elsewhere in the Library. Let's say that,
instead of doing it threw ITunes, I did it via finder. Would ITunes not then
be able to find the files?

Thanks.

got a chance to pass along information

2012-03-17 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys.
You just never know when you will get a chance to pass along useful information
to one of our sighted computer-using colleagues. I was sitting in the airport
today waiting for a flight to leave. A lady who was getting on the same plane
was sitting there putting information into her iPhone. Some of us may not know
it, but it clicks along when a sighted person is using it without VoiceOver in
memory, and it has a definite recognizable sound. After she stopped clicking, I
asked her if she had a 4S. We started talking about this, and we both agreed
that we loved Siri.

Then, it turned out she had a blind aunt, and she knew all about Jaws,
PacMates, Braille Lites, and VoiceOver. She has a nine-year-old dyslexic
daughter who uses VoiceOver and downloads books to her iPad 2. Her aunt is
having problems with her Windows and wants her computer guru niece to help her
with it. I told her why I had switched to a Mac, and then she proceeded to tell
me her aunt already had her New iPad on order. So, I took out my iPhone and
found the number for Apple's Accessibility Support number. I don't think the
aunt will have a problem, though. She already has an iPhone. The niece was glad
to hear that.

Gigi

There is a timer built into the clock app that comes on the iPhone. It's one
of the different tabs within the app. There is also a nice stopwatch.

VoiceOver wouldn't read information

2012-03-17 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi again guys.
This question is for the future because my mother read the screen and solved
the problem by telling me where my cursor was.

My sister has a Wi-Fi network, and I wanted to join it. I got the choices, but
VoiceOver wouldn't read the information in the dialog boxes no matter what I
did. It kept reading the contents of my desktop. At one point, I was on the
place to type in the password, but VoiceOver never said so. When my mother told
me my cursor was there and I typed it, then it joined right away. I have never
had this happen before, although I haven't joined too many networks. Eventually
I will want to join hotel networks or maybe a public one somewhere? Does anyone
have a clue why VoiceOver would behave like this? I tried several settings to
see if that was the problem.

Gigi

a Problem or bug with the I phone 4S

2012-03-17 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hello All.

It's quite late here so I hope my message is going to make sense!

Using my I phone 4S on Saturday afternoon the 17th of March, I received a call
which I dealt with. However, once theconversation was over and I did a double
tap with two fingers taking the phone away from my ear, holding the phone in
front of me, Voice Over remained in the ear piece, (like it does when you have
used Skype on the I phone) although I don't know if this is an issue still,
those of you will know that you either have to switch off the phone or quit
Skype for Voice Over to come back on the main speaker, well, this happened and
what ever I did after the call, Voice Over remained in the ear piece until I
rebooted the phone.

Has this happened to any one else?

I hope this message is making sense and I'm not confusing any one.

If this happened to any one, please let me know or if any one could write a bug
report for me (if any one is bug reporting to Apple), I'd very much appreciate
any one's assistance with this issue.

I'm sorry that this message is lengthy.

Thank you in advance and your patience for reading.

Best wishes.

Kawal.

Budgetting programs

2012-03-17 Thread Sean Murphy
Hi All.

I am seeking for a Budget program on the Mac. I have looked at IBank and the
table of transactions were not accessible. I have looked at savings and you
cannot edit transactions while everything else seems to be accessible. I am
ware of Envelopes Cash management web site. But I don't like the idea of my
finances being located on someone else's equipment. It is out of my control
which makes me very uncomfortable.

Any ideas?

Using VLC to stream Shoutcast TV channels

2012-03-17 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
Hi, folks; hope everyone's weekend is great.

I see in VLC Media Player under "services discovery," in the File menu that I
can check on "Shoutcast TV listings," but I do not see a listing of all the
channels currently streaming to the net. With Winamp, I was able to get a lis
of all the currently streaming channels, broken down by genre or whatever. Is
there a way to get VLC to do this, or a site that has this information kept
current?
Thanks, all, and have a great rest of weekend! :)
