importing preffereces in osx
Hello, Since 10.7, I wasn't able to import all my preferences and specially the trackpad commander-settings. As developer, it seems not possible also in the current release of 10.8 On the link on the bottom, you can find a voprefs-file of my adjustments> I have created specific trackpad commands with the command- and shift-keys. It should be nice if someone has the possibility to import this settings and see if it works? This settings for the trackpad commander are made in 10.6 but, should also work in 10.7? Any comments or hints should be great. kind regards, William Windels http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5863718/Bewegingen%20VoiceOver-trackpadcommando%27s-30%3A03%3A2010.voprefs -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. You can't manually import the music in its folders, even if the structure is identical to the ones Itunes uses, into the Itunes Music end directory; Itunes has to update its library.xml file every time else it doesn't know they're there; it's not like Winamp that reads the folder structure directly. Re: yet another update on my crazy ITunes crashing issue
Thanks. Actually, I wasn't talking about EQ. I was talking about ENQ. That's where you select a file and you can tell the player to cue it up to play next and not imedately. I know Cog does that, But, cog is rather crash prone; at least, the last version I have is. Winamp for Windows has ENQ right off the explorer window; but, sadly, Winamp for Mac ain't even close to being there. VLC appears, so far as I can tell, not to have the file ENQ ability. There is ENQUEUE for Mac, but, the DEV tells me it don't support voice over or cross fading. Sincerely, The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!! Now a very proud and happy Mac user!!! Maybe it's one of the settings in your phone sync. You don't have to get all the songs. Re: accessible iMovie?
Hello Mike. It looks like MirVideo will convert to the mac formats but not in the other direction. It also appears that I have to drag the file in to get it to work. Using your air in public.
Hi all, so, i went out and bought myself this super cool, super fast macbook air. now, the reason that i bought this fine machine is because of it's small size and portability. well, now that spring is here, i am wanting to take it out with me to coffee shops etc. i live in a city and am concerned about the safety of using such a machine in an outdoor public setting. i went to the mac online store and looked up the kensington lock and, alas, it does not work with the air. so, here's my question to you all. do you all take your portable machines out with you? and, if you do, what sort of security measures, if any, do you take? have any of you had problems with having your computers stolen? and, if so, what did you do? did you get it back? i would be extremely upset if i had my machine stolen on one hand yet, on the other hand, i do not want to be restricted to using it only in the safety of my own home. if i wanted to stay at home, i would have purchased the less costly mini. i look forward to hearing your experiences and suggestions. thanks much. Re: Using your air in public.
Well, I don't have an air, but they are so small and light you could just get a little case to wear across your body. When the laptop is not in use, toss it in the case; when it is, you will have your hands on it anyway, so no problem. This way, when you aren't using it, it will be tucked away in a case that is against your side so you know what is happening with it. Just my thoughts. I bought a backpack so when I'm not using my MacBook I just pop it in there. If I usually sling it over one shoulder but if I need both hands I can put it on all the way. In other words, I don't lock it down, I keep the laptop with me. If you must lock it then you might want one of these: http://www.macworld.com/article/1158830/macbook_air_security_lock.html where you attach a rigid case to the MacBook Air and that case has a standard lock slot. You could also check into iAlertU which uses the MacBook's motion sensors to trigger an alarm and notify you on your iPhone etc. http://ialertu.sourceforge.net/ CB On 3/14/12 3:51 PM, Ricardo Walker wrote: Hi, I personally just put my macbook in my book bag when I travel. Hi all, i think you misunderstood me. yes, i have a case for my air and, i also carry it in a backpack. what is my concern is having it stolen right out of my hands. say, for example, that i am sitting outside at a coffee shop and typing away on the computer with my earbuds in and someone just takes the machine and runs off with it. this is my concern. even if i have my hands on it they can still grab it and run. are others afraid of such happening? am i being to paranoid? what do sighted folks do with their expensive machines? do they just use them and not worry about it? i am off to check out these links now. thanks a lot. Re: Using your air in public.
Hi I am always using my Air in public. I am writing this email on the train to work at the moment. I had similar concerns to you when I first got my air but very soon got over them. I use it in coffee shops all the time. I would tend to get a seat inside rather than one on the street though. This is mor because it would normally be air conditioned inside and we are coming out of summer here in Oz. However I guess one nice side effect of sitting inside is that you dramatically reduce the chance of someone being able to snatch and run with your MBA. I guess every country and area is different so take my advise under caution. Whenever I've been to a coffee shop, I get lucky and find a Mac geek nearby, a sighted one, who is happy to keep an eye on stuff. Even if there isn't one of those, the other people in the shop are quick to note if there are any people around and warn me. But int he places I hang out at, people are generally cool. I've never had problems, an the strange ones don't stay around long because, I guess, tey are being watched by the others. Games for Mac and MUD Clients and other little questions of new Apple Eater
HI ALL! I'm a new MacBook Pro User! I'm very happy to have my new Apple she is so delicious! But, I would like to know if you know some accessible games for the blind ? I play too a multi users dungeons in french and I look for too an accessible way to play this kind of game interacting by text and typing commands. Like a new user, if someone would like give me some advices to use Skype for Mac I feel it very different from one for PC and I don't yet used to do with it as well. Would it exist a free program to make OCR friendly with VoiceOver? I am a worker in the mixing sounds. I would wish some tracks or a peace of advise to know which programs are interesting with Mac... Sorry for this comboquestions mail but I just arrived with Mac so, it explains every questions!! Re: DVD's
In DVD Player, you use space to play and pause, right-arrow and left-arrows to go to next and previous chapters. I was using the vo commands to drag my file selection from my documents and then used command shift r to bring up the air drop item then tried to drop the file with voperiod. Have I got that right? Re: Using your air in public.
Hi Viviana. I think you're being cautious if you have a concern. I think paranoid is when you just won't get your Mac Air out because you're afraid unreasonably. My sighted brother had a laptop stolen from him because two guys worked together. One distracted him and pretended to be hurt; when he put his laptop down and went to help, the other guy took his laptop. He never did get it back as far as I know. I don't have an Air, but I do have a MacBook Pro. I have a case for it that I got from Apple, and when I carry it around, I never leave it in the car or anywhere else. Also, I put my arm through its strap all the time. When I go into a restaurant, I try to choose a booth, partly to accommodate my dog, but partly so I can put my computer case right up next to me. I put it and my purse together, so I am unlikely to leave the both of them. Also, a booth is more secure because a person would really have to work to get to your computer. I'd rather make it hard for them if they are going to get it. If there is not a booth, after getting my dog in place, I tuck my computer case and purse as close under my feet as possible. Re: Using your air in public.
Wow! More than the hardware, I am concerned about the data, so my hard drive is fully encrypted. I don't know if you are being too paranoid or not. I just think that your MBA will feel very upset if you don't use it in public. :) You need some guts to steal a laptop like that. I must be lucky or something, but I tend to trust my environment quite a bit. I live in NYC. I have heard about people getting their iPhone stollen while talking on the phone with it. Must be so funny to watch… Sorry if it happened to you guys. Anyway, if you are too concerned, try to see if you can have it insured. I use it all the time in cars, restaurants, jumping from meetings to meetings, on the plane, train and even once from the privacy of my bathroom. O O :) Cheers! Re: Using your air in public.
Hi All. I can only say that my I phone 4S and Mac Book Pro are not insured and I have no concerns of using my gadgets in public. I know that we may be more at risk of having our things stolen but I'd like to think I want to be like my sighted counterparts that I do not want to be restricted by not being able to use my things whilst either at work out in public places. I take the view that if I was to be scared of doing anything at all I may as well stop living! Life is a risk and we only live once so make the most of it as none of us know what is round the corner. Re: Using your air in public.
What would everyone here think of a device which was inserted into a USB slot on an Air or Iphone and, when yanked out, would completely disable the computer? I owned a stun gun and it had a wrist lanyard which was attached to a part of the gun. IF the gun was yanked from your hands, the part would come out of the back, causing the weapon to be completely inoperative. My idea was if a wrist lanyard were attached to a USB device which was an encrypted key to your portable computing device, without which a password was necessary to restore it, were yanked from the computing device via it being snatched from you, the device would go dead. You'd still lose it, but short of charging the case of the device itself and zapping the grabber (wouldn't work), this would at least render the device useless until they either got the USB key from the lanyard around your wrist or the password to restore it. I'm curious whether anyone would use such a gadget, or whether the risks outweigh the benefits. • Mark BurningHawk Baxter • AIM, Skype and Twitter: BurningHawk1969 • MSN: burninghawk1...@hotmail.com • My home page: • http://MarkBurningHawk.net/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Games for Mac and MUD Clients and other little questions of new Apple Eater
Hey Volcy. Welcome to the world of Apple and the Mac. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of choices for games on the Mac. The only 2 games on here are Chess and the RS Games Client which can be downloaded at rsgames.org If you like playing online, I suggest giving the RS Games client a try. It contains board games such as Monopoly and Battleship and card games like Blackjack and 1000 Miles. Other than that, there aren't a lot of games for the Mac, but hopefully that'll change when Mountain Lion comes out which will turn the Mac into kinda an IOS device. Question about possibility of backing up Windows and Mac on one external drive
The subject says it all--I'm still both a Windows and a Mac user, with one laptop on each operating system, and I also have an external drive with about 200 gigs of files which I can connect to either machine and which, along with the two laptops, I would like to back up. I am trying to decide whether to purchase one or more than one new external drives to use for backing up the whole lot, and would like to know whether there is a way to use one external drive to back up files from all three devices--the two laptops and the other external drive. Is this even a good idea? All thoughts and information welcome! Marcia Yale "Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. Hi Caitlyn, The key is that both the file on your Mac and the location on the mac where you want to drop the file have to be visible on your screen at the same time So, open two finder windows one with the file and the other with airdrop and you can make it work. Re: Chrome has become unusable
David, The application support folder had a google folder that only had one file in it. It was just called Chrome (I do not remember the extension). I deleted the Google folder, removed and reinstalled the Chrome app, and I'm still having the same problem. Chromevox is still there and I can use it, but VO is next to useless. It seems to just read form controls and sometimes a few things near the form control. For instance, if I go to metal-archives.com, it just reads the combo box that specifies the search criteria. It will not read anything else on the page. Chromevox has other issues with this site, so Safari seems like the only way to use it successfully on the Mac with a screen-reader. Hi guys, I've got a Mobile Me account which I've successfully ported over to iCloud. Yesterday, my In Box had about 2030 messages in it and today it's only displaying the 4 latest messages. I know the mail is still there, because it shows up on my iMac which is running Snow Leopard. On my iPhone, the mail shows up the same way—the 4 most recent messages and nothing else. Re: Using your air in public.
Cheree Heppe here: The idea of a physical key sounds like a good idea. Do you know where or if this idea has been tried on computers? I have used a Windows machine or two and various Braille note takers and I-devices in public and so far, nobody has attempted to lay hands on the devices or on me while I've been using them. I would carry a low profile bag with a cross-body strap and use my public effectively for information and assistance. Some ordinary-looking backpacks contain interior pockets which hold NewBooks, Airs and so forth. Regarding the stun gun, Mark, would you write me privately, as I have several questions. Re: Question about possibility of backing up Windows and Mac on one external drive
You would have to partition the drive and format the partitions first. I have one drive which functions as 3 drives: one is a time machine backup for my Mac, one is my Windows backup, and the other one contains file data. Re: Games for Mac and MUD Clients and other little questions of new Apple Eater
I use TinTin mud client to access muds. It's not the best thing in the world but gets the job done, especially if you play with the cursors so they do not follow each other. Also tintin has a nice gag feature so you can easily eliminate unnecessary lines, such as blank lines. It has been a decent alternative to windows mud clients. -Greg On Mar 14, 2012, at 3:53 PM, BUCHERIE Volcy wrote: > HI ALL! > > I'm a new MacBook Pro User! > I'm very happy to have my new Apple she is so delicious! > > But, I would like to know if you know some accessible games for the blind ? > I play too a multi users dungeons in french and I look for too an accessible > way to play this kind of game interacting by text and typing commands. > > Like a new user, if someone would like give me some advices to use Skype for > Mac I feel it very different from one for PC and I don't yet used to do with > it as well. > Would it exist a free program to make OCR friendly with VoiceOver? > > I am a worker in the mixing sounds. Hi all, I am working a lot on tables right now, and while trying to format cells borders background colors and font colors, i'm having a lot of trouble with the operations. I've scoured around the googlegroups archives but my keywords don't hit the right areas. I'm specifically looking for that numbers podcast which was posted some time ago. Does anyone have a link to it by any chance? Best regards, Yuma -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group.
