Re: IOS 5.1

2012-03-08 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
IOS 5.1 also enhances stability on the iphone 3GS. with IOS 5, every operation
required extra processing time and voiceover lag. with IOS 5.1, this is
virtually eliminated. I have also noticed some voiceover modifications since
last as you say ric, including the slide to reply instruction, etc, also an
icon for the camera in the lock screen I had heard about on last night's apple
keynote address. which was nice :)

Will see how IOS 5.1 behaves and also check if there's updates to XCode.

Re: installing lion

2012-03-08 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
yep.

do you still have the installer? if so, bring up the contextual menu (VO Shift
M) and go to show package contents. From there you need to find the
InstallESD.DMG file (can't exactly remember where it's located), now open it so
it mounts to the desktop, insert a blank DVD and when finder asks you what to
do, run disk utility from the dialogue box.

from here it's a simple burn the install DMG contents to the DVD.

after this has happened, reboot the mac with the DVD still in and hold down the
C key. give it a min or two and then Command F5 for voiceover,

the next step for the clean install (I advise before doing anything else
including these previous steps is a data backup of essential files you want to
keep to a pen or external drive, etc) when you've agreed to terms, etc, go to
the tools menu and launch disk utility. go to the hard drive and erase it. YYou
can either do a quick erase or any of the secure erase functions. (it's at this
point I advise not having any other external drives connected such as pen
drives or external hard drives, otherwise you might accidentally select the
wrong drive.)

erase the drive, when completed, quit disk utility and continue with the
installation. you can with Voiceover, customise the installation, etc before
the install starts, this includes apps, languages, etc. If memory serves me
right, the install starts with downloading some necessary files not included in
the installer so ensure you have a working internet connection for this.

after this, the install goes on and will finish, as long as voiceover is
running, you're fine.

good luck and have fun. if you need further help, let us know.

Yup.

There is 1 little bug I've noticed. After unlocking the phone, if you quickly
press anywhere on the screen, I mean before the last app you were on is
announced by voiceover, an item in your dock is launched. Very odd.

Oops, from what I remember the installer is straight forward. I know with
snow leopard you have customizations in the installer. can't fully remember
if this is so with lion. need to confirm that.

yep.

do you still have the installer? if so, bring up the contextual menu (VO
Shift M) and go to show package contents. From there you need to find the
InstallESD.DMG file (can't exactly remember where it's located), now open
it so it mounts to the desktop, insert a blank DVD and when finder asks
you what to do, run disk utility from the dialogue box.

from here it's a simple burn the install DMG contents to the DVD.

after this has happened, reboot the mac with the DVD still in and hold
down the C key. give it a min or two and then Command F5 for voiceover,

the next step for the clean install (I advise before doing anything else
including these previous steps is a data backup of essential files you
want to keep to a pen or external drive, etc) when you've agreed to terms,
etc, go to the tools menu and launch disk utility. go to the hard drive
and erase it. YYou can either do a quick erase or any of the secure erase
functions. (it's at this point I advise not having any other external
drives connected such as pen drives or external hard drives, otherwise you
might accidentally select the wrong drive.)

erase the drive, when completed, quit disk utility and continue with the
installation. you can with Voiceover, customise the installation, etc
before the install starts, this includes apps, languages, etc. If memory
serves me right, the install starts with downloading some necessary files
not included in the installer so ensure you have a working internet
connection for this.

after this, the install goes on and will finish, as long as voiceover is
running, you're fine.

good luck and have fun. if you need further help, let us know.

Re: IOS 5.1

2012-03-08 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys.
I really thought I had broken my iPhone last night. My husband was already
asleep since it was real late at night, so I couldn't ask him if there was
anything on the screen. He had already updated his iPhone with no problem.

I did ok until the last thing. It said it was going to restart the phone. Maybe
it did, I don't know because it didn't restart VoiceOver. Good thing for triple
click home, or I would have been in trouble. It finally occurred to me to press
it, although I thought the phone had gone bye bye.

I haven't yet run into the bug you guys are talking about, but I'll be warned
about that now.

Speaking of 5.1, last night I checked out the intro to the new iPad. Did you
guys know that Apple added dictation like on the iPhone 4S? I had to hear all
about the new display that my husband will probably adore before they got to
the part 1@ wanted to hear. I knew that was going to happen, but I'm keeping up
with the changes to the iPad these days. Since Apple is also lowering the price
of the iPad 2 like they said yesterday, it wouldn't be worth it to me to have
one of the new ones, except for that dictation feature.

Regards,
Gigi

Jenna,

I have the iPhone 4 & an Apple Macbook. For the life of me, I can't figure
outt why, if I have the iPhone, would I want the iPad as well? As far as I
know, they're run the same IOS &, far the most part, the same applications.
True, you have a larger display & I guess this would help for people with low
vision. But, other than that I can't see enough of advantage to warrant the
expenditure for those who already have an iPhone. Just my two cents & I'm sure
others will have varying opinions. I'd be interested in hearing them.

Good luck with your decision & have fun in Dallas this summer,

Chrome has become unusable

2012-03-08 Thread Eric Brinkman
Hi listers,

I finally decided to give Chromevox a try. For the last two days it
worked reasonably well, but today I attempted to go to the next
heading and must have hit the wrong keystroke. I think I accidentally
disabled Chromevox, and I can't figure out how to re-enable it. A
google search kept telling me about enabling accessibility with
control-z, which does nothing. I assume this is only on Chromebooks.
Even more troubling is that Voiceover doesn't seem to work at all with
web pages on Chrome now. When I attempt to interact with the HTML
content, it seems to act as though it is empty. I can select the
extensions menu with VO, but cannot read anything. I would appreciate
any help anyone could offer in resolving this.

Thanks in advance.
Eric

2012-03-08 Thread Eugenia Firth
Well, in my case, I do eventually want an iPad. When I do my reports, I'm on
the iPhone. This means it would be awkward, to say the least, to have Pages
open at the same time.

Now that the dictation is going the new iPad I see I have another option to
getting another braille display. I could dictate my reports and read braille on
the Mac. I know I'd have to edit them later, but I do that now anyway.

Re: Possible bug in Lion

2012-03-08 Thread accessibility
Please include the line below in follow-up emails for this request.

Follow-up: 191823987

Hello,
Thank you for your email. I believe this is the normal and expected behavior.

Apple Accessibility

Hi.

To save precious USB connections on my Mac Mini I used a usb hub to connect
both my mouse and my PC style keyboard to my Mini. Both the mouse and
keyboard work fine in this configuration, the only problem is every time I
restart the computer I have to remap the Windows/Alt keys to the
Option/command layout that is more traditional because Lion seems to be
losing these settings.

First impressions of iOS 5.1

2012-03-08 Thread chris hallsworth
I finally got round to installing iOS 5.1 over the air on both my iPhone
4 and iPod Touch. Wow! How responsive is VoiceOver now on these devices!
Even Voxer isn't slowing VoiceOver down anymore! But the one app that I
just can't get to work is Typein Braille. I launch the app, tap to bring
up the Braille keyboard, and absolutely nothing happens when I tap on
the screen! I mean, it's no big issue; I'll just await an update. But is
it me, or can you duplicate this at all? Please tell me I'm not going
mad! Lol! Only joking of course. Any comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Ok I have two videos related to Skype for you.

This video goes over the basic Skype layout and how to call people and add
contacts. It also goes over the quick nav so if your interested in that check
it out.

This video goes over the basics of how to use the chat feature.

I hope these help. I don't know much about the conference calls but I will do
some more research for you. Take care!

Hi, Eric,

My Chrome seems to work fine. I haven't used Chromevox in awhile, so I can't
speak to that issue. However, in my case, VO seems to read with Chrome just
fine. I think if I were in your place I would try a reinstall of both the

Re: Need help with skype.

2012-03-08 Thread Red.Falcon
Hi Michael!
Just a little tip!
After someone has typed there first message and then goes to the html field and
scrolls to the end message!
If at that point they turn off cursor tracking with [vo+shift+f3 ] then during
a conversation all they have to do is just start typing and they will be put
straight into the edit field!
And when they press the return to send it, they will find themselves back in
the message field and just have to scroll past the message they've just typed
and wait for the reply!
And once they've scrolled through that reply and need to send a reply again,
just start typing!
But of course when all done must remember to turn on cursor tracking again with
the same controls!
Have a play yourself and see what you think!
And just a request!
Could you slow down voice over for some people still might not be used to a
high speed voice!
All the best!
Colin

Re: mi fi question:hello all,

2012-03-08 Thread Scott Howell
You may not see the benefit for you; however, you have to consider the types of
applications you would be using. This surely is not the only example, but I for
one find reading Mail on the iPad to be a much better experience because of the
real estate. I find reading articles with apps such as Feeddler Pro to be a
little more pleasant. In this case size does make a difference because of the
increased real estate.
On the other hand I also have an iPhone and I use it a great deal and there are
apps I prefer to use based on the smaller size. So, it really depends on what
your tasks are.

Re: IOS 5.1

2012-03-08 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
it's not a bug, it's a new mod for voiceover. call it a slight enhancement.

there are some new features in voiceover including speaking hints, etc you'll
find these settings in voiceover settings. I'm finding it much better already.

Ipod Touch Sync Problems

2012-03-08 Thread Dan Rathburn
Hello,

I have an Ipod Touch 4G 32GB and Itunes for the PC. Whenever I try to sync,
Itunes gets to "step 3 of 7" and won't proceed any further. I have to restart
the computer to get out of Itunes. I'm running WE 7.5.3 on a Windows 7 HP
laptop.

I haven't upgraded to 5.1 or Itunes 10.6 yet.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Dan

issues selecting more than one item noncontiguously in ITunes

2012-03-08 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay. Here's the deal. While interacting with the music source list table, I
was trying to remove some items noncontiguously. I found, however, that using
control+up or down would not do it. It didn't matter whether I had curser
tracking on or off. Any ideas how to select noncontiguously without having to
do a select all?

Thanks.

Re: issues selecting more than one item noncontiguously in ITunes

2012-03-08 Thread Esther
Hi Ray,

I haven't updated to iTunes 6 yet, but the following works for me under Lion,
with no need to turn cursor tracking on or off. I'm using list view
(Command-Option-3)
1. Lock your VoiceOver keys with VO-semi-colon
2. Navigate with Up or Down arrow to the next entry you want to select
3. Command-Space to select a track
4. Pressing F6 at any time describes what is selected
5. Press semi-colon to unlock VoiceOver keys when you're done
6. Perform any actions you want with the non-contiguously selected tracks,
which could include deleting them from the library, or creating a new playlist
from the selection with Command-Shift-N.

Also, at any time pressing Command-Space with the VoiceOver keys locked acts as
a toggle to de-select a selected track or to select a track if it is unselected.

I think you needed to use Control+Option+Up or Down arrow if your VoiceOver
keys were not locked. These instructions work only for Lion, since earlier
version of MacOS X require you to turn cursor tracking off with VO-Shift-F3
before navigating to new tracks and selecting them with VO-Command-Space. You
should also turn cursor tracking back on with another VO-Shift-F3 after you've
finished.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Same problem here. Just downloaded & installed Libre. Checked it out & was

work or it's back to Pages, which really doesn't seem very intuitive.

Apple Accessibility

Hi.

To save precious USB connections on my Mac Mini I used a usb hub to connect
both my mouse and my PC style keyboard to my Mini. Both the mouse and
keyboard work fine in this configuration, the only problem is every time I
restart the computer I have to remap the Windows/Alt keys to the
Option/command layout that is more traditional because Lion seems to be
losing these settings.

it.

Has anyone gone through this? And can you explain how it works?

Status Report Question

2012-03-08 Thread Marc Sutton
Hi Listers,
I read somewhere about a way to get this program to update the feeds list. Can
someone refresh my memory on this? I installed the ios app and it got all the
feeds the first time but doesn't seem to update. Thanks.
Marc

ITunes crashes when ever I add to library

2012-03-08 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay, This is really ticking me off.
What happens is this. In preparation for trying to practice using the ITunes
DJ play list and getting used to how it works,

I installed ITunes 10.6 and repaired disk permitions. I deleted all Items from
my ITunes Library which I wished not to have there. Then, I made sure that
ITunes is set not to add files to the Library location but leave them where
they are; on my Mac drive.

Now, when ever I go to add files to the Library Music table, this is what I do.

1. Press command+o to add to Library.

2. Select the folder from which I wish to add files.

3. Select contiguously all files I wish to choose.

4. Now, I press return to ad files.

At this point, ITunes will seem to add the files; and, I get the triple
ding sound indicating that files were added; and then, ITunes crashes. This
happens time after time. What ever could I be doing wrong here. Do I need now
to completely throw out the entire Library and make a brand new one? If so, I
suppose I'd better plan on backing up my Iphone aps to an SD card before I do.
I can't start to practice Using the ITunes DJ feature without even being able
to add suff to the blasted library.

Any advice before I go through all this?

Sincerely,
The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!!

ITunes crashing all the time now

2012-03-08 Thread Ray Foret Jr
I sware, Apple has really gone and screwed up ITunes big time. Now, I cannot
even navigate up or down in source lists. I don't know What apple did; but,
what ever it was, version 10.6 really sucks. It's not even usable basically
anymore. About the only thing I can think to try next is delete the
~/Library/Preferences/ComAppleITunes.plst
and the
~/Library/Preferences/ITunes/Help.ppsl files or what ever the heck they are.
I'm been fooling with this damn thing all night and I've about had it!!! Sorry
folks, but, this time, it looks like Apple's just made things a lot worse.

I'm so completely not going to reinstall my entire OS over this!!!
