Accessible Program for masking your IP

2012-01-30 Thread Michael Busboom
Hi.

I am looking for a low-cost solution for masking my Mac's IP address. For
quite some time, I used Hot Spot Shield, but this is no longer an option,
because "PowerPC Applications are no longer supported."

Can anyone suggest an accessible alternative?

My thanks in advance,

Mike

Re: A Question About Using The TrackPad when Navigating Text in Text Edit, Pages, etc

2012-01-30 Thread Emrah
Just tried and it works here.
Basically, once you change the setting, it affects what is read to you when you
move your finger on the trackpad.
The line mode will read a line at a time, the word mode will read a word at a
time and so forth.

I cannot find any use to this feature yet...

2012-01-30 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Please clarify for me what you did as it's never worked for me. This means you
just use the I phone gestures on the Mac and you do not need the key board to
get voice over to read all with vo A.

I am using Lion and turned anything to do with launch pad off.

Re: A Question About Using The TrackPad when Navigating Text in Text Edit, Pages, etc

2012-01-30 Thread Emrah
Hello,

This has nothing to do with trackpad gestures per say.
If you want to read all with VO without your keyboard, just enable the trackpad
commanders and do a two fingers flick down on the text area.

Cheers,

converting and ripping DVD's to MKV?

2012-01-30 Thread Kliphton
Okay, I have googled this, and haven't found very many accessible programs.
And DVD remaster is out the question because of it's price. So does anyone
know of a voice over acceesible program that can rip DVD's in to MKV format?
Also converting other video files in to MKV format? I know the second one
is probably a lon shot, but hey might as well try.

RE: A Question About Using The TrackPad when Navigating Text in Text Edit, Pages, etc

2012-01-30 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Ricardo.

I am very much glad you asked this question for, as you so correctly stated,
some basics do very often get overlooked. However, in this case, they did
not; that is to say, I am interacting with the text.

Allow me to list the gestures I am attempting to use:

After setting the TrackPad reading option to Sentence, I:

1.
Release the Command key while at the same time stop touching the TrackPad.

2.
Move the Insertion Point along with the VoiceOver cursor to the beginning of
the document. I have the Insertion point and the VoiceOver cursor set to
follow each other.

3.
Use a single-finger swipe down on the TrackPad. When I do this, what is
read by VoiceOver is the contents of the next line--not an entire sentence.

4.
Since this is not what I want, I use a single-finger swipe right on the
TrackPad. When I do this, what is read by VoiceOver is the next word--not
an entire sentence.

This happens when reading emails, working in Pages, or in Text Edit.

If you have gotten this to work, please list the steps and gestures you
employ.

Thank you,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Excuse me stating the obvious but, thats often what gets overlooked. lol.
Are you interacting with the text? This will often tweek how navigation
works I've noticed in text edit. I don't have pages but, figure the same
would apply.

VoiceOver User Guide describing methods for reading text:

 Text:

"Change how VoiceOver reads text [by word, line, sentence, or
paragraph) Press the Command key while touching a finger on the
trackPad."

Now, when I do this, VoiceOver does switch between the above stated
selections; however, I cannot seem to figure out how to use the
setting once it has been changed. That is to say, after hearing
that sentence is selected, I attempt to navigate, by sentence, by
simply single-finger swiping up, down, left, or right on the
trackPad but it does not navigate by sentence. Further, after
hearing that Sentence is selected, I continue to hold the Command
key down while performing the above mentioned gestures to no avail.

What am I doing wrong? Is this a bug? I would be happy to use the
Rotor to set my choice to sentence but sentence is not an option on the
Rotor.

 All comments welcomed.

RE: A Question About Using The TrackPad when Navigating Text in Text Edit, Pages, etc

2012-01-30 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Emrah,

Please list the exact steps and gestures you employ to read by sentence via
the TrackPad.

Also, are you running Lion or Snow Leopard?

Reading one sentence, at a time, can be extremely useful when writing long
documents.

Thank you,

Mark

Just tried and it works here.

Basically, once you change the setting, it affects what is read to you when
you move your finger on the trackpad.

The line mode will read a line at a time, the word mode will read a word at
a time and so forth.

I cannot find any use to this feature yet...

Re: efficiently selecting multiple cells in numbers

2012-01-30 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Yuma,

Sorry for the delay in answering you but I've been out teaching VO all day.

To select multiple cells in Numbers, place a hotspot on the first and last
cells to be selected. If the first cell is the actual first cell, this is not
necessary.

Go to the last cell to be selected, turn cursor tracking off, bring the mouse
and do a physical mouse click. Jump to the first hotspot, or go to first item
if the cell is the first, bring the mouse and shift-click.

VoiceOver will announce the number of cells selected.

This sounds messy but it's easy when you get used to it. I use the Trackpad
Commander to find the cell I want, then I turn it off to perform the action.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Deleting bookmarks from Safari

2012-01-30 Thread Red.Falcon
Hi Ed!
Use command+option+B this will land you on a search field! But if you Shift+tab
you will have a table of folders like history and others!
So select which one of those you want to go in to, and then just tab twice and
you'll have the table of the bookmarks of that folder just interact and delete
at your leisure!

Hi.

I am looking for a low-cost solution for masking my Mac's IP address. For quite some
time, I used Hot Spot Shield, but this is no longer an option, because "PowerPC
Applications are no longer supported."

Can anyone suggest an accessible alternative?

My thanks in advance,

Hi, Mike and all.
I like and use
http://www.acevpn.com
It uses open VPN, which will work on the Mac. I am not sure whether
the GUI is accessible, but even if it isn't, one can use the command
line tool, I believe. Acevpn's servers also support PPTP and L2TP if
you don't want to use OpenVPN. The cost is $5 a month.

Maybe it might be how you've got the tab key set to act!
But when you've chosen which folder you wish to go into just vo+right arrow
past the search field and you should end up at the table of bookmarks!

different podcasts. I'd just like to comment on your in-depth knowledge of
apple products & your willingness to share that knowledge with others. Your
familiarity with pages is particularly impressive. I wish you'd produce a
tutorial for that package. Never the less, thank you for your willingness to
share your hard won skills with the rest of us.

Sincerely,

CJ

Re: Inserting Accents In Text Documents

There is another option too which is a bit confusing but seems to work. Hold
town the letter you want an accent for a second and then use left and right
arrow keys to select the character you want.

Re: Deleting bookmarks from Safari

2012-01-30 Thread Ed Worrell
I don't know if this helps, but I get two fields that I can interact with after
I hit the tab key two times. I get New collection group and New folder group. I
don't know what these are. The only thing that I can do either of these is add.
I am stumped with this lack of functionality… I thank you for all the help and
suggestions.
I have some research to do I guess.
Thanks again

2012-01-30 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
YOu could go one step further with a dedicated folder and folder scripts. If
you enable folder scripts and associate a script with the foler then you should
be able to say something like

on new folder ...

end

I have an example script somewhere that I can find if you can't figure it out.

Re: OCR on the mac

2012-01-30 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
I have heard very good things on the Tidbits newsletters about the Fujitsu
scanners when you have a lot of content. They cost a few hundred dollars, but
can scan several pages a second.

I meant to read the take control books about making a paperless office as the
process is essentially the same as what we as blind individuals need, but never
got around to doing that.

Best wishes,

Some help with making a web site accessible.

2012-01-30 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
Hello, Temple Rodef Shalom in NOrther Virginia just updated their web site and
it has a mouse over type of menu that uses a "menu.js" I can with some
finagling pull down the menus in the list, but it is very inefficient.
If somebody could look at http://TempleRodefShalom.org and give me advice as
to how to make aria landmarks indicate the menu or other tweaks that would make
the site work better with Voice Over (and possibly other screen readers) I
would appreciate the help.

Thanks,

Jonathan

2012-01-30 Thread Karen Lewellen

Hi,
 one comment and one question.
It works beautifully in lynx, which is still under development and has me
wondering about its use in a terminal l setting. Still I would guess that
if there were numbered links on that page, yours might be an easier ride.
The questions though is if you have contacted them about the change? after
all many laptops and cell phones do not use mice either, with the older
population in their temple family for example perhaps having equal
issues. The more you speak to those who do the site writing, the more
wisdom gets passed around for improvement.

Make sense?

2012-01-30 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
Actually I was asked to test the site. I found it very difficult to bring up
the Religious School link under learn. And also the Facebook lik and twitter
link near the top don't say facebook and twitter in VoiceOver but Temple Rodef
Shalom instead. With Jaws and IE8 the Twitter and Facebook icons were more
specific.

Thanks,

It has a simple interface, that allows you to search, read a selected

I'm still playing with it and learning, but it seems nice.
I got it from the app store.

HI,

It works for me in lion.
Here are the steps.

1. Open a text
2. touch trackpad
3. press command and you should hear the toggle from line sentence paragraph et.
4. Do not flick but rather move your finger around the trackpad. If words is
selected you will only hear the word your finger is on. IF paragraph is
selected than you hear that.

What you have to do is keep your finger on the track pad and tap the key
up and down to change the setting!
But the way most people think the instruction means is to hold the key
down and tap the track pad and then think it does not work!
So try the other way to change settings!

Re: efficiently selecting multiple cells in numbers

Hi Anne,

Merci beaucoup pour cette astuce. I guess ther are some things which need sight
emulation using voice over, and they're pretty clever in fact.

Will try that out as soon as i get a finished data set from my friend

Best regards,

Re: automatically opening and converting with Abby Fine Reader Express

2012-01-30 Thread Yuma Decaux
Yes, that's the cherry on the cake. Folder actions are very usefull, but if you
have both imagescane interaction followed by the abbeyfinereader interactions,
folder actions aren't needed.

I've gathered all the UI elements on imagescan and will script the first half
of this action and post it here for anyone who wishes to use it.

However, for multiple pages, the best for you to have is a document feeder type
scanner. I use it and batches of 10 pages finish in 10 seconds. Real time saver
:)

Re: A Question About Using The TrackPad when Navigating Text in Text Edit, Pages, etc

Hello Ioana,

I see. So, one cannot simply type away on the keyboard of the Macbook and then
use a single-finger swipe to navigate via sentence.

Now I understand how it works. Thank you ever so much.

swiping up, down, left, or right on the trackPad but it does not
 navigate by
sentence. Further, after hearing that Sentence is selected, I
 continue to
hold the Command key down while performing the above mentioned
 gestures to
 no avail.

What am I doing wrong? Is this a bug? I would be happy to use the
 Rotor to
set my choice to sentence but sentence is not an option on the Rotor.

 All comments welcomed.
