Re: questions about videos

2011-11-19 Thread Teresa Cochran
I think you are coming up with a player for watching the video. I'd suggest you
wait a minute or two for enough of it to be downloaded to begin playing. It
sounds like it is buffering, because it's being played before you have enough
of it. The counter with the time on it is displaying the length of the video.

Re: Moving Mobile Me to iCloud Issues

2011-11-19 Thread Candie Stiles
I also tried moving my mobileme account to Icloud using vo and had difficulty.
When I was at the mobileme/move website, all vo read was one button and then a
pop up button. The rest were a bunch of images. I clicked on everything several
times and couldn't get anything to happen. I finally asked a friend who is
sighted to set it up for me. It is a very simple and quick process if only the
info on the screen was read by vo.

Re: update for Vmware Fusion available - not looking like anything new in the accessibility department

2011-11-19 Thread Scott Howell
Matthew,

One thing that was really interesting is that you can run Lion, SL, or even
Leopard. I don't know that this is entirely knew, but certainly new that it is
mentioned up front. The only bummer part of this is I have not found a way to
get VO to behave. I cannot turn VO on the host off and effectively control VO
in the VM. If I could do this, I would have some interesting options. So, if
anyone does figure this out let us know. SOmething tells me it won't be
particularly easy. Now I did notice that I could toggle VO in the VM on/off
without affecting the host machine, but where I encountered problems was if I
wanted to use VO navigation controls in the VM, VO on the host machine would be
affected. Complicated? Yeah, a little, but ah the potential.

RE: Logitech Solar Keyboard for Mac

2011-11-19 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi,

Perhaps that setting is only for the keyboard on the mac itself? Or that
Logitech keyboards f keys can't be changed. I don't know, seeing as I don't
have that keyboard, but it doesn't make sense that you can't change the
function. Also, if you can't, just press the FN key with a function key, and
bam.

Yes you did answer this question a couple of days ago, but as I said in my
latest message on my Mac when I go into system preferences, keyboard, and
then the keyboard tab there is no check box for using the F keys for
software functions. That is why I asked if there was anyone on the list
that was using this particular model keyboard, and if so if they were able
to enable the F key functionality.

Re: Logitech Solar Keyboard for Mac

2011-11-19 Thread Scott Howell
Scott, this functionality is not keyboard specific.
The option does exist and you might be just missing it.
Make sure you have the keyboard tab selected and VO will indicate when this tab
is selected. Now what you are looking for is Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as
standard function keys checked check box and in your case it may be unchecked.
If you are not seeing this, then there is something else going on with your
system. I cannot imagine what would cause this option to disappear, so hope
this helps.

Re: update for Vmware Fusion available - not looking like anything new in the accessibility department

One way to get around these complicated keyboard issues is unloading VO from
the native Mac side. It is easy to turn off and on, and sometimes, it is much
quicker than trying to figure out key bypass commands.

Re: accessible banking?

2011-11-19 Thread Gigi
Hi Nancy.
I didn't see where you received an answer, so I apologize if I missed it and
you get more than one answer. It seems that each bank has their own iPhone app.
So, if you already have online banking set up, you can go to the app store and
type in your bank's name and see if it comes up with an app. That's how I got
mine from Bank of America.

Regards,
Gigi

Navigon on the iPhone

2011-11-19 Thread Gigi
>>> Hi guys.
>>> A while back, I bought Navigon for the iPhone, and I have updated it all
>>> along. I got the labeling done of the buttons that were just saying Button
>>> (thanks for that here.)

I was trying to get an address input into it last night because I am going
somewhere this morning. However, I think I am doing something wrong. I typed in
an address I know is there, and it said Empty List or something like that. Then
I thought I would go by POI, but after getting the Buttons labeled, I could
only get the restaurants immediately around my house. I saw the Within City
button, but I couldn't figure out how to get the restaurant list further away,
in this case way in North Dallas, several miles from my house.

So far, even though it is limited, the Sendero app gives me the best
information by using old-fashioned mobility methods. I use it for bus stops and
checking cross streets. Fortunately, I have a note on my iPhone for getting to
this place when I get off the train.
>>>

Can you get distant POI's on Navigon if the address you type in isn't
recognized?

Regards,
Gigi

algoriddim DJ 4 updated and accessible

2011-11-19 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hey all,

The team at algoriddim was very resilient in both making their new DJ version
accessible to voice over users, and have immediately fixed a bug which made the
interface sluggish with the mac's screen reader.

Their latest 4.0.1 release now makes the application worthwile for aspiring
djs, producers who wish to make on the fly effects for their podcasts as well
as keyboard masters.

Their app is currently available for a discounted price of 16$ and though its
been a long time in the coming, this release has a lot of power features which
makes mixing your music with itunes a pleasure.

For those with some midi controllers it's even more fun as you can map
virtually everything to knobs, sliders and pads.

Some highlights:

-bpm and note analysis of itunes tracks allowing one to make harmonic mixes of
their tracks by assembling track similarities by their root notes in addition
to the standard bpm counts.

Full set of audio effects and one shot effects that can all be configured and
paremetered for custom transitions.
A sampler section for up to 8 samples that can be triggered during mixes
Audio unit effects that can be assembled with native audio effects for more
sonic control
A larger list of compatible hardware midi controllers with increased resolution
and performance for live scratching
Playlists are now all visible to voice over users
Icloud integration

Still checking out further features and accessibility improvements, but this
little program is great for anyone who likes to take music live and record
unique mixes by switching between say garage band's structured sound production
streamline and on the fly sampling, effects processing and recording for
fillers, transitions, or instruments, voice overs and more.

Here's the link to the app store:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/djay/id411699771?mt=12

Enjoy

skype new message audible alert not chirping

2011-11-19 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
I'm using the latest Skype with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with all updates. When I'm
in the main Skype window, and a new message comes in, the "message received,"
chirp does not sound. I have to be in another application's window before I
hear the new message sound. This means that if I stay in the Skype window, I
might get a message and not know until I manually check the status with
VoiceOver. Is there a fix so that the chirp sounds every time, even if I"m
still in the message window

Thanks for any information on this. Subtle but annoying.

Re: update for Vmware Fusion available - not looking like anything new in the accessibility department

Hi everyone.
VMware Fusion 4.1 is out. Not sure how long it's been out but I just saw it

I've updated and it doesn't look like theres anything new in the accessibility
department. I personally think that this is okay. I've always found Fusion easy
to use to get done the work that I need to do in windows.
There is however a new shortcut that can be used to put the VM in to full
screen mode. It is Control Command F. The older keystroke can still be used if
you wish as well. When you put the VM in to full screen, VO gets really chatty
about what space you are in so be prepared for that.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone.
Sorry if you are seeing this information twice.

RE: Itunes Match

2011-11-19 Thread Daniel Miller
No, iTunes Match was always going to be 25000 songs. The thing is, it's
25000 songs not purchased from the iTunes store.

They put a limit on the songs? I thought it was dependent on the amount of
storage space you have.

Re: Word Games for the Mac?

2011-11-19 Thread Jessica
I actually was curious as to that myself as far as games in general. I
remember the extremely old "brickbash," and "3d brickbash," games that were
around not long after the Mac first came out, and I always tried to play
those, but wound up losing the balls more than I managed to break any of the
bricks with them.
I'd love to know if there's anything like that that's actually accessible
with the VO software.

Hi,

I've been looking for word games. The only ones I've been able to find were
for the IOS devices, and even those weren't totally accessible. However, I
thought that it would be nice to be able to play some kind of word game on
the computer. Suggestions, anyone?

How about any other Mac games, aside from the RS games client?

Thanks,

Subscribe to list

2011-11-19 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi All,

a friend of mine tried to subscribe to Macvisionaries without success. He has
no Google account but wants to subscribe with another e-mail address. But when
he sends an e-mail to macvisionaries+subscr...@googlegroups.com he always
receives an answer that he needs an invitation.

Is it no longer possible to subscribe without having a Google account? And is
an invitation really necessary?

Thanks and all the best
Jürgen

Re: Logitech Solar Keyboard for Mac

2011-11-19 Thread Scott Rumery
Ok I just went to system preferences on my Mac, and I am not finding this
option but I know that I have seen this check box before. I am at a loss as to
what could be going on. I changed keyboards so that I could make sure that
this option is not keyboard specific and it is not because with the other
keyboard the option is still not there. I know that with this other keyboard I
was able to change this option when I first got my Mac, so I do not know where
this check box has gone.
Here is what V o is finding in my keyboard system preferences.
Keyboard selected tab. Keyboard Shortcuts tab one of two. Key Report. Delay
until repeat. 85.7 percent key repeat slider. 40 percent delay until repeat
slider. Off. Slow. Fast. Long. Short. Show keyboard and character viewers
in menu bar checked check box Input Sources Change Keyboard Type, Modifyer
keys, Setup Blue Tooth Keyboard, Help. This is everythin on my Mac within the
keyboard tab in System Preferences. If anyone has any idea as to what I could
do to remedy this I would greatly appreciate it because I would really like to
have my F keys work normally.

Hi Scott!
Can you set up another account and see if those settings are in that one!
If so then your account might be corrupted and I think there is a fix somewhere!
You only have to set up a guest account just to check!

RE: Word Games for the Mac?

2011-11-19 Thread Missy Hoppe
I'm interested in this as well, especially until I'm able to get some kind of
mud client up and running, I'd love to find
some accessible games to play on my macbook. I know there's rs games, but if
there are other games that work well with VO on
the mac, I'd love to hear about them.

Hi All,

a friend of mine tried to subscribe to Macvisionaries without success. He
has no Google account but wants to subscribe with another e-mail address.
But when he sends an e-mail to macvisionaries+subscr...@googlegroups.com he
always receives an answer that he needs an invitation.

Is it no longer possible to subscribe without having a Google account? And
is an invitation really necessary?

Thanks and all the best

Re: Word Games for the Mac?

2011-11-19 Thread Greg Aikens
I have been able to use TinTin for mudding of the mac pretty successfully. I
set up an activity for terminal so that the VO cursor does not follow the
keyboard or insertion point. This means that even though VO will interrupt
itself, it doesn't move my cursor all the way to the bottom, so I can continue
to arrow through/use find to figure out what is going on. TinTin is nice
because you can set up gags, triggers, and aliases like other clients. Gags
have been especially helpful in getting rid of unnecessary info being spoken.

I have not learned to set up a sound pack for TinTin, but I hope it can be
done. This would make the mudding experience even more accessible.

Logitech Keyboard Problem Solved

2011-11-19 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello I wanted to let the group know that I have a solution for the issue that
I was having with my new Logitech Wireless solar keyboard for Mac computers. I
was having a problem with the F keys on this keyboard. It seems as though when
you first begin using this keyboard that the F keys are set to perform hardware
functions, and that means that in order to do some of the much needed V O
commands you will have to hold down the F/N key in combination with the V O
keys in order to have them work properly. Well it turns out that by going to
the Logitech website and downloading a program called Logitech Control Center
for Mac and installing it that then the F keys work correctly. It is still
interesting that the check box is still missing in the System Preferences
keyboard tab, but the important thing is that it works the way that I need it
to. Thank you all for the help with this.

The option does exist and you might be just missing it.
Make sure you have the keyboard tab selected and VO will indicate when
this tab is selected. Now what you are looking for is Use all F1, F2, etc.
keys as standard function keys checked check box and in your case it may
 be unchecked.
If you are not seeing this, then there is something else going on with
your system. I cannot imagine what would cause this option to disappear,
 so hope this helps.

If you have your keyboard commander switched on there is the shortcut key X set

All you need to do is turn on the commander and in vo utilities under general

A shortcut to the commanders from general is to press command+8 and that will

labeled with the date and time of capture.

I believe that the shortcut set up under Keyboard Commanders will take a screen
shot of what is in the VoiceOver cursor and attach it to a mail message. For
some purposes you may want to capture the entire screen, for example, if you're
sending an attached image to someone sighted to troubleshoot your machine.
Limiting the screenshot to what's in the VoiceOver cursor may not be sufficient
if, for example, it turns out that you're in the wrong part of an application
window for a control that you're trying to find, while sending the image
captured of the entire screen would allow someone to help you with identifying
what's going on.

There are also commands to capture just an application window, but they require
more steps to execute, since you have to move the mouse cursor and "Click" in
your selected window.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

trouble with script

2011-11-19 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Hi,

I tried to send this yesterday but got no response what so ever.

Hi,

I'm trying to work with the following code:

> tell document 1 of application "TextEdit"
> set wordcount to the (count of words) as text
> set charactercount to the (count of characters) as text
> end tell
> say wordcount & " words and " & charactercount & " characters"

I paste it in to the source box and leave everything else as it is with the
results box checked and the Results radio button selected. No matter how much
I try, though, I just cannot save the thing. I try to save it in the
Macintosh/Library/Scripts folder but I get a dialog that says that the script
cannot be saved. What gives? Could it possibly be the quotation signs or what
is it? Something must be wrong with the code because it just will not save.

update on automated windows 7 install under VMWare Fusion

2011-11-19 Thread Joseph Norton
Hi list:

Some months ago, I tried to use the easy install for Windows 7 under VMWare
Fusion. When I did, it did install Windows, but, in a different language.

Turns out that the default for the Windows DVD I have is not English.

Anyone know how to use the Easy Install to get the proper language?

Did they fix this with the version 4 update of Fusion?

Thanks!

Re: trouble with script

2011-11-19 Thread Esther
Hi Ray,

I think you may have tried to save the script to a non-existent folder. When I
read your earlier post, you stated your save location was
"Macintosh/Library/Scripts" (without the quotation marks) so if you used the
Command-Shift-G "Go to folder" shortcut to specify the folder location to save
to, you'd get an error because you either have to type "/Volumes/Macintosh
HD/Library/Scripts" or "/Library/Scripts" (without the quotation marks) to have
a legal address that points to your system Scripts folder.

The code you have in this message is fine. The way you can check this after you
copy and paste it into an AppleScript Editor window, is by pressing Command-R
to compile the script. If you don't have TextEdit open at the time, it will
say "0 words and 0 characters"; but with TextEdit open, it announces the word
and character count of the foremost window.

Write back if this doesn't sort your problem, and I'll compose more detailed
instructions. If you're going to assign a keyboard shortcut using the
VoiceOver Keyboard Commanders pane, you don't need to save the AppleScript in
any particular Scripts folder in the system library or under your personal
library -- you just have to point to whatever location you used when you
associate the AppleScript with a file on the Keyboard Commanders pane of
VoiceOver Utility.

I set up a folder in my home directory named "~/Library/Scripts/VoiceOver
Scripts" (where the initial tilde indicates my home directory, and where I've
put quotation marks around the folder name). I saved the AppleScript as a
Script with the name "TextEdit Word Count", and I had to create the folder
named "VoiceOver Scripts". You can use any names you like for you folder and
script, and you don't even have to put it in the ~/Library/Scripts/ folder.

Under the Keyboard Commander pane, I navigated to "Add" button to add a new
keyboard command and pressed with VO-Space. Then I typed "w" for the assigned
key, pressed VO-Right arrow to navigate to the menu button and pressed
VO-Space, then pressed Command+down arrow to move to the "Custom Commands"
option at the end of the menu, pressed Right arrow to move to the sub-menu,
arrowed down to "Run AppleScript Script" and pressed "Return". At that point
you can use Command-Shift-G to locate the folder containing your word count
script file and open it. As previously stated, if you're using this via a
Keyboard Command shortcut assignment, you can put that file anywhere and name
it anything you like. It could, for example, be in a folder within your
Documents folder.

HTH. And Matt was speaking of the stars that Hai Nguyen Lai typed as a divider
between the text of his mail message and the lines of AppleScript. I don't
think that was your problem. Cheers,

Esther

Hi Ray,

The key to whether the Script works is doing the Command-R compile from the
AppleScript Editor. If the AppleScript works (even if it announces 0 words and
0 characters because you don't have a TextEdit window open), then the problem
is with your file saving process -- probably with the location you typed in.

more on script saving issues

2011-11-19 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay.

Here's exactly what I get every single time I try to save the code for the Text
edit word count script as
"TextEdit Word Count" without the quotes in the file name and try to save it in
the scripts folder off the library folder off the Macintosh directlry.

"The document “Untitled” could not be saved as “TextEdit Word Count.scpt”."
I know as a fact that the code works because I used command+r to run the script
and it reported back zero words. What ever could be going on here?

Do you not have permission to write to those directories? What happens if you
save the file to your own home directory? Remember, you can associate any file
location with your keyboard shortcut assignment in Keyboard Commanders.

Re: more on script saving issues

2011-11-19 Thread Esther
Hi Ray,

It seems that default file permissions have changed under Lion, since I'm still
running Snow Leopard. You can Google "wheel wikipedia unix" to read that
"Wheel" is a Unix designation for special permissions -- from the notion of "a
big wheel" who had extra privileges.

I find it a little worrisome that file privileges under Lion are different from
what I would assume for these directories. I'll have to do some checking. Glad
to hear that this was sorted, though.

Cheers,

Esther

Re: VoiceOver becomes unusable when running script

2011-11-19 Thread Esther
Hi Ray,

This is weird. VoiceOver is working for me, but now the Right Option+W
shortcut to announce the TextEdit word count isn't working -- even when I
assign it to another shortcut. key. I think I just don't understand what is
going on now.

Re: VoiceOver becomes unusable when running script

2011-11-19 Thread Esther
Hi Ray,

This seem really weird behavior, and is not present for me in Snow Leopard.
The only thing I can think of, apart from the odd permissions associated with
the /Scripts folder that you're using, is that the "say" command does or has
had some latency. When I used it in earlier versions of Mac OS X for time
announcements, I used to put a "delay" argument of a tenth of a second or so
before starting it up, to avoid conflicting with whatever VocieOver was in the
middle of saying.

You can get around using "say" by rewriting the Script to display a dialog
window, but you shouldn't have to. Maybe Hai Nguyen Lai (the author of the
script) can make some suggestions. This just works for me in Snow Leopard.

Re: VoiceOver becomes unusable when running script

2011-11-19 Thread Esther
Hi Ray,

OK, I just thought of a reason that using the Keyboard Commander shortcut, at
least with the Right Option key as a modifier, isn't a good idea for TextEdit
word count. I should have thought of this earlier: if you're in a TextEdit
window, the Option key combinations are used to generate other character
symbols. Option+w is normally the combination to generate the summation sign
in Math. There are probably other such combinations. Most of the other key
combinations with the Option key in TextEdit have alternate symbols. I'll have
to think this one over. How annoying. I can always assign a shortcut without
using keyboard commander, but still Maybe Hai has a suggestion.

Cheers,

Esther

Hello all,
I am having a hard time entering new credit card information on the papa john's

Safari reformats it with commas and even rounds the value to the nearest 10. I
have tried unchecking autofill and spell check options but it is still
happening. Any thoughts?

Re: Itunes Match

2011-11-19 Thread John Panarese
The 25000 song limit does not count anything you purchased from the iTunes
store. If you have more than 25000 songs you ripped, the method I have read
about is time consuming, but effective. They suggest making a separate iTunes
library and including only the tracks you really want matched. After you set
it up, then go through the match process. There is an article on macworld that
addresses this.
