Should have used Extended journaling. That is how I did it. I'd suggest
reformatting your external drive to this and try again.

RE: Time machine and carbon copy cloer issues

2011-11-04 Thread Bill Holton
Actually, that's what I meant, I did format with extended journaling. But
may have to try again. I have the drive connected via my Airport Express,
and there seems no way to reformat it while connected. I need to connect it
directly to the Mac, but whenI do that and then return to the router the Mac
adds a 1 to the name, so my capsule drive becomes capsule1.

Trying to lie to itunes

2011-11-04 Thread Daniel Montalvo Charameli
Hi! The thing is that I have certain mp3 files that belong to some radio
episodes that are not integrated in a feed to consider them a podcast and I
cannot subscribe to them with iTunes in the ordinary way. I wonder whether you
know a trick to lie to iTunes, that is, download the mp3 files and then, by
certain means, make iTunes think they are podcasts that are added manually. You
could think it is not necessary, just downloading the mp3 files and importing
them to my library would be enough, but iTunes (when dealing with podcasts)
behaves in a different way than it does when dealing with songs. For example,
iTunes remember the position of every single episode in a podcast and that
doesn't happen in songs. Also iTunes have a counter to inform you whether
you've played an episode or not, and this function is nod implemented in songs
or normal mp3 files.

Well, if anybody can help, it would be very much appreciated.

Re: Trying to lie to itunes

2011-11-04 Thread Jon Cohn
All songs in iTunes have a count of play times and count times. Though
generally, the play count is not displayed. Also, there is a remember location
and skip on random check boxes in the iTunes info box.

Best wishes,

If the files are already in iTunes, you can change lots of options by pressing
command+i and editing information for that file.

Hi,

Sure you can. Go to the file in iTunes and press Command I. Now select the
option tab. Aft that, navigate to the media kind pop up and select podcast.
Now just hit enter. iTunes will now treat the file as a podcast.

For those of you who use Winamp as a music player in Windows, there is now
 a
version for the mac. It has some accessibility shortcomings but I am able
to get it to work and actually play music with it.
Just an f y i for anyone who wants to give it a try.

Re: Winamp for Mac

2011-11-04 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay, so let's say you open a song and start to play it. Can you, while that
song is playing, slect the next song and either through the short cut menu or
the return key, ENQ that next song in to a list and also tell which track is
playing or not? CAn the cross fading between tracks be controled; or, how does
it seem to work?

Want as much data as you can provide before I install the thing. thanks.

OH, you said there were as yet some accessibility issues. What exactly are you
noticing?

Sorry if this is a bit much all at once and so forth.

Re: conversations in e-mail, what are they

2011-11-04 Thread John Panarese
Conversations are messages grouped together by subject. It's a quick way
to follow a particular subject and easily read the related responses. If you
have organized by conversation checked in the view menu with the new standard
view in Mail, you should hear VoiceOver tell you how many messages are in the
conversation. You can then use Control-Tab to jump to the message content area
and the VoiceOver keys with the right arrow to hear each of the other messages
in that conversation.

Re: conversations in e-mail, what are they

2011-11-04 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Of course, if you're like me, and your Mac book pro has but one control key,
(and that on the left side) control tab aint the easiest key stroke to do. So,
what I prefer to do to look at the conversation is to right arrow to cause the
conversation to open and then up and down arrow to the bottom of that
conversation and use VO+J to interact with and read the actual text of the
message. When done, I just VO+J back in to the conversation window and then go
up to the next and so forth till I am through or else am tired of the
conversation. At that point, pressing left arrow closes the conversation and
delete dumpts the whole thing. Some use the technique of pressing return to
view the conversation, but, I could never get that method to work.

The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!!

Re: conversations in e-mail, what are they

2011-11-04 Thread Red.Falcon
Hi!
If you use the track pad to go through the messages [and I do not know how this
works in Lion]
When your finger is on the subject without moving or removing your finger hit
the control key and that should take you into the message and when you are
ready keeping your finger on the message hitting the control key again will
take you back to the heading and you can go to the next one you wish to open!
But I do not know how useful it will be in conversation mode!

2011-11-04 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay.

I dropped winamp.app in to the apps folder. Launched it; and, what happened,
"Winamp has no windows" said the screen. No buttons or controls worked. Not
even clicking with the mouse.

any thoughts Dave?

RE: can't get winamp to do anything

2011-11-04 Thread Missy Hoppe
What a relief! I'm having the same problem and didn't know if it was something
weird on my end. In fact, on my macbook pro, I
have to do a force quit after I've run winamp. Needless to say that I'm very
disappointed so far. I guess I'll just keep
using VLC for now.
However, if someone does have winamp for the mac working, I'd love to hear how
it was done.

Yep, I had to do a force quit every time myself. No matter what I do; whether
it's a mouse or track pad click, tab key, VO keys, command+o to open a file,
or what ever, the blasted app just don't wantta do anything for me. There's
nothing else in the DMG except an alias to the app.

I know that one of us seems to have gotten it to somewhat work; but, It sure
don't wantta work for me at all.

Checkbook 2.2 Summary questions

2011-11-04 Thread John Sanfilippo
Hello,

To anyone who may be using Checkbook 2.2, not the pro version. I am struggling
to understand how the summary is supposed to work.

I'm asking for a year to date summary. When I press enter on this summary it
shows the appropriate dates, but when I review the actual data output it shows
all data not just this year, but last year as well.

Is it that the program has a bug or this user is daffy?

Any help appreciated.

John S

Re: can't get winamp to do anything

2011-11-04 Thread David McLean
When you start Winamp the first time press enter and you should hear the Winamp
Llama bit.
I only found this app with afternoon folks so I really don't know any more
about it than you all do but that I have discovered. Once you get past that it
does show buttons and it will show the winamp library as it does in Windows.

RE: can't get winamp to do anything

2011-11-04 Thread Missy Hoppe
I tried the suggestion of hitting enter when winamp first opens on the mac, and
it doesn't make a bit of difference. it just
dings at me the same as pressing anything else does. I'm mystified by this for
sure. Any other suggestions that might get it
to work? I'd say the download was corrupt, but I didn't get any errors when
opening the .dmg file or the app; just the no
windows thing.

Winamp no good for me

2011-11-04 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Well, you say that when Winamp is first opened, press enter? No good. the
blasted app just don't work for me. Are you working under SL or Lion? This
sucks!

Re: Winamp no good for me

2011-11-04 Thread Courtney Curran
Hi,
I have a clue about winamp, it seemed like turning voiceover off and tabbing
and entering around helped for me. I first turned voiceover off, then I pressed
tab, then I pressed enter. That didn't do anything, so I repeated this process
a couple more times.
I hope this helps.

Re: can't get winamp to do anything

2011-11-04 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hmmm, I don't find Winamp in my list of running applications in the chooser,
but I do find it in the "force quit" window. I think it must have balked.
Either that, or it shows some sort of inaccessible splash screen. I don't like
to use the word "inaccessible" very often, but this baby is not even recognized
by VO as a window.

I may have my hubby look a little later and see what's popping up.

Does Photo Stream actually work?

2011-11-04 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,
Sory for the cross-post. I just activated Photo Stream on both my iPhone 4
running IOS5 and my Mac Mini. My iPhone 4 is currently connected to AC power
and wifi. I have activated an iCloud backup on the iPhone with the intent of
moving one photo from the iPhone to the iPhoto library on my Mac Mini.
However, I don't see it on the Mac Mini. What have I done wrong and what do i
have to do to move this photo to my computer without connecting the cable and
opening iPhoeo/iTunes?
thanks,
Kevin

Re: can't get winamp to do anything

2011-11-04 Thread Joseph Norton
I downloaded it and had to play around with it.

I'll have to try this on a fresh installation to be 100% sure, but, here is
what seemed to work.

I launched the app, made sure I was in the window by commad-tabbing. It said,
"winamp has no windows" I then pressed space then enter. I got the llama
message.
Try that and se if it works.

Re: Yayy! It Worked!, Was can't get winamp to do anything

2011-11-04 Thread Teresa Cochran
Thank you so much, Joseph. That did the trick. :)

Now to make sure that pesky splash screen stays away permanently. I go to
preferences first, if I can.
