Re: Downloading folders from dropbox website
Hello Jenny: Glad to hear that your shared folder is available to you ;). I know that is a relieve. Yes, selecting the advanced setup provides you with a few more options ... one of them being seeing the folders you create rather than simply the folders that come with the package out of the box :). If you want to send a link to share with someone you could: 1. focus upon the file or folder you wish to share. 2. Perform a VO + Shift + M keystroke to bring up the menu. 3. Arrow down until you here the dropbox option. 4. Press the right arrow key and then arrow down until you here copy public link. 5. Press enter. Now you can paste the link into an email and send it to whomever you like and they will be able to see it. Let us know if that proves helpful n any way. Take good care and I wish you enough. Fwd: The Macintosh Online Bible
Hi all, Well has anyone on the list had any experience with The Online Bible for the Mac? Perhaps I don't yet know what i am doing, lolololol, but, after downloading and then finding the dmg file, and successfully installing the OLB, I am unable to find the program to try it out. I mean, I see Online Bible in the Applications folder, but when I open it I only hear the word grid. Downarrowing from here I hear bdb selected image. Downarrowing again I hear paragraph.map selected image. But really i don't thing anything is really opened because when I hit enter on either of these images, I am placed back in the Finder window. So do you think that the executable file was never really placed in the applications folder? Any other ideas? Dedicated devices and iOS was RE: Money reader in canadian app store
Hi, all. I, like Erik, carry around a dedicated MP3 player, but see the merit of both that approach and the use of the iPhone. My views may be summed up as "whatever works best". Having said that, there are a few things in Erik's message below which aren't disadvantages of the iOS method. When asked about whether the dedicated player can Purchase music and download it wirelessly? Erik writes No I have to handle music and podcasts on computer before they go to the player, but I refuse to invest in a DRM and so apple store mp3's and audible books are no interest to me. Music from the Apple store has, to the best of my knowledge, no DRM at all or very minimal DRM. One certainly does not have to authorize devices for it. Books from the Apple Store and from Audible do have DRM, however. This is the main reason I don't buy books from the Apple store or Audible content. If I buy something in accordance with a specific license agreement, it's mine to use in accordance with that license. The fact that the provider of the content thinks people will violate the license really isn't my problem. Erik, when asked about online streaming of radio stations, says This is a feature I could actually use if my player had it. Unfortunately wifi access is still pretty limited here and there's no way even if I had a data plan, that I could afford to put my ISP to the kind of usage I'd be looking at. My mp3 player listening time is about 80 to 120 hours a month and if even 20 or 30 were using streaming audio I'd shortly run into problems. I used to be of this opinion as well. However, listening to a 256 K stream for an hour takes about 113 megabytes. Most radio stations stream in a lesser quality than that. Given that most providers in Canada at least offer something around 5-6 gigabytes for $30, streaming radio stations for a significant amount of time is not impossible to do. Finally, Erik writes I'd appreciate some links to resources on how to play ogg or flac on IOS if you have them. There are several options. You may want to have a look at http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/oplayer/id344784375?mt=8 for example. There are other apps, both official and from Cydia, which will do the same. I don't read audio books very much, but agree with Erik that the iPhone's handling of those books is quite bad. Does the mp3 player have a search feature allowing you to search through thousands of songs? No, but it does allow you more control over the layout of your music when you put it on the device and it does allow for much faster scrolling than IOS. It's a bit of a trade off. I don't have a search feature, but I don't miss it because I know where stuff is and I can get to it quickly. Create and edit playlists on the device? Yep it does that. Purchase music and download it wirelessly? No I have to handle music and podcasts on computer before they go to the player, but I refuse to invest in a DRM and so apple store mp3's and audible books are no interest to me. Download audible books and podcasts wirelessly? Again, DRM no thanks. Not when I can get the same content in better quality from other sources. Have access to 15,000 internet radio streams? This is a feature I could actually use if my player had it. Provide you with music recognition? You mean like genus? What a ridiculous feature. Don't you know what's in your music collection? That and the whole social network they are trying to build around what's on your IPod. Are people really going for this? You gota be kidding me. This is of course scratching the surface, and some of what you mentioned, mp3 audio books, ogg and flac, the iPhone will do. Fraid not. If I put an mp3 audiobook onto my ITouch it goes into my music and then I have to playlist it separately at the very least. Plus I can't have bookmarking in an mp3 audiobook. If I want that I have to make it an m4B or whatever that proprietary format is. I'd appreciate some links to resources on how to play ogg or flac on IOS if you have them. I can make it work on the mac, but not on the ITouch. An mp3 player blowing the iPhone out of the water on feature sets, quality, an

Re: just discovered computer braille
Hi Paul E. I had this information originally in an, I think an old VersaBraille manual or maybe the old Braille Lite manual. I do have on my computer a file from BANA which is called Computer Braille. There are some things in there like dots 456 twice for underline which don't apply to computer displays. However, most of what's in there applies. When I have some time, I'll edit this file and send it to you. There probably is a better file found I'll bet in the manuals for braille displays. You might check yours and see if there is a listing in there of computer braille code symbols. Most of the other symbols that you are talking about include control M for carriage return, control L for page break, control I for tab, and control J for form feed. You probably won't see, in a braille file, most of the other control characters. Regards, Gigi On Sep 28, 2011, at 1:10 AM, Paul Erkens wrote: > Hi Gigi, > Yes that's what I would like to do. Hi, Erik. I think Bell, Rogers, Telus, and Virgin are all offering the 6 GB for $30 plan, though don't quote me on their all offering it, it may only be Rogers/Telus. In any case, the plan does exist on the 850/1900 band which the iPhone supports. Obviously, if you're willing to dump the iPhone and go to one of the AWS providers, you will get allot more for less. Because I've been in front of the computer all day and I fed up. firstly where is the voice over settings stuff. I opened activity chooser and hear" voice over settings current" but how to open it. secondly I set my email account butstill don't know how to read my emails and all the stuff. is there any source to read or watch that tells step by step all the details about mac. I think the main problem is I don't understand the logic of using mac. please help me. Numbers Question
Hi Guys. I just had an experience with Numbers I haven't yet figured out. I think I know how problem started, but I meed to know how to get VoiceOver to tell me the cell status. I finally called my sighted husband who used to teach Excel for Brookhaven College. It turned out that some of my cells were listed as labels or text. I had suspected this might be the problem because I had checked numbers and added them up on my PacMate calculato, and they were wrong. I had set VoiceOver to tell attributes, and I had gone into the Inspector and, I thought, changed the whole selected cells to numbers. How can I get VoiceOver to tell me the status of a cell so that I can be sure that all the numbers are included in the sum? I hope this makes sense. The other question I have is what the command is for going to the end of the file in Numbers. I have a MBP. Hi Banu. The first thing I told myself when I started on the Mac was that I would probably have some bad moments. Indeed, I did. Like the time I accidentally copied 50 folders to my husband's computer. That was before I knew about command-z which erases what you just did. I don't know what services are available in your country. Here Apple offers One-to-one training. I was lucky to get a person who liked to use computers on his day off. You said your brother helped you. This person that helped me on purpose blindfolded himself and worked with VoiceOver on his computer. Since he is a long-time Mac user, he was able to figure out things and show some to me. Re: Numbers Question
I have only one point of help for you. You should be able to select an entire row or column if you go to the extreame edge using the touchpad commander, and thenclicking on the item found. I have not had much luck with navigating, but I wonder if the standard command down would do the trick? Re: Downloading folders from dropbox website
Hello Jenny: Hmm, are you performing the VO + shift + m on a file or folder which is contained within the original public or photo folder? Given the journey you have been on with the installation of this software (smile) operating from the shared folder might be uncertain if that is what is happening. If you have not done so already, try moving something not already in dropbox to the original public folder and see how that works. Also, I do not remember if you have an Iphone or not. Re: language rotter
Hi, I don't think there is a language router in vo. You just change the voice to an other one that speeks a different language. Press option, control command left or right arrow to cycle through vo settings like rate, intonation, etc. until you reach voice. Then arrow up and down keeping those 3 keys pressed and select the voice you want. If the voice you want is not there you Go to the vo utility with option control f8 I think. There choose voices and customize. Add the voice you want. I just had my first mac for 1 week so I might have mossed some steps in the adding voices part but hope this helps you further. Like others have said the vo quick start guide is really helpful. I find that vo command help is great too. Keep up your hope in this fun adventure! Converting a bunch of audio files?
Hi all, I've downloaded Doug's ringtone script for iTunes, and it works great for my mp3 ringtones. Does anyone know if I can convert multiple files at once with his script? If not, does anyone know of a program that will let me do this? I have a ton of mp3 ringtones, which I'll eventually want to convert to the m4r for the upcoming iPhone. It would be nice if I could convert a handfull at a time. Thank you, Traci -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Apple Care Protection
Hi all, I'm curious who has the Apple Care Protection plan and if you recommend it? I have a $100 gift card for the Apple store, so if I can use toward the Plan, that'll drop the price to $149. I'm kind of feeling like it is worth it. This is such an expensive machine, so why not give it some protection for the next 3 years. I get the one year limited warranty, so I guess I'm paying for the editional 2 years. $75 each year? Lol, good math? I'd still like your input though. Good idea, or nah, not really necessary? Hey Matt. The reason it's like that is because Apple wanted to make Lion look more like IOS and have the downloads move from a window to a popover does that. Hi, here is the link on Apple's website detailing the Apple Care Plan. http://www.apple.com/support/products/mac.html If I understand it correctly, you get phone tech support for the 3 years, plus repair service on parts and labor. Either bring the Mac into a Apple Store, or for the Macbook's, you can use an Apple Care box to ship it back and forth. Yes, I have. It is very picky about light-sources. Make sure you have a strong light-source. This is of course scratching the surface, and some of what you mentioned, mp3 audio books, ogg and flac, the iPhone will do. An mp3 player blowing the iPhone out of the water on feature sets, quality, and ease of use seems like less of a "no brainer" than you suggest. But this is really beside the point. The initial discussion was sparked by your comment: It's ten bucks for a money reader? Why not just get a bank of canada one for free? If you still don't see why someone would pay the ten bucks, I'm probably not going to change your mind. If I suggested that the iPhone competes feature for feature with things like GPS units, mp3 players, cameras, etc, I didn't intend to. The point is that, where an app allows you to accomplish what you would normally accomplish with a stand-alone device, then being willing to pay a small amount of money for the app even when the device is free doesn't seem that strange to me. Stopping iTunes from automatically adding files was:Ripping cps with Amadeus?
Paul and others who wanted to find a way to stop iTunes from automatically adding a played audio track. Below is a message Esther sent that gives excellent directions on how to deal with this. Thanks to her I now have iTunes working the way I like. here is Esther's excellent directions: Hi Eric, You can play tracks without adding them to your iTunes library if you QuickLook them by pressing space bar instead of opening them in an app. This obviously does not work for DRM protected apps, since iTunes is required to validate the DRM (e.g. with audiobooks purchased from Audible or the iTunes Store, movies, really old iTunes Music tracks that were purchased before they moved to DRM-free purchases, etc.) Other than that, you can set the default app to open mp3 files, for example, to be something other than iTunes (e.g., VLC, QuickTime Player, etc.). Just select an mp3 track, and use Command-I to bring up the "Get Info" window. Use item chooser (VO-I) to navigate to the "Open with" option: specifically VO-Right arrow to the pop up button for the application, VO-Space, then select the app you want other than iTunes (e.g. QuickTime Player or VLC).If you then VO-Right arrow past the pop up, there's an option to "Use this application to open all documents like this on e." followed by a "Change All" button that you can press (VO-Space) before closing the get info window with Command-W. I think that as long as iTunes is the default app for opening a file, it adds the new entries to its library. Just QuickLook the file instead of opening it if you don't want it to be added to iTunes.
