Mac to Windows: Itunes
Hi James, Just following up on Traci's question about moving your Itunes foldder from Windows to Mac, Do I take it you can do the reverse if you want to move your Itunes folder the other way? I've installed Win7 as a Bootcamp partition on my MBP and it it might be nice to have it there while I have to do things on the other side. Re: assistance moving mailboxes to the favourites bar
Another thing people have had success with, is to position your vo cursor just to the right of the inbox that was already there on the favorites bar. It seems to matter, where on the favorites bar you drop the mailbox you are dragging. So go to the mailboxes table and interact with it, then find the mailbox you want in the favorites bar, then hit vo plus comma there. Now, stop interacting with the mailboxes table, move over to the favorites bar, interact with it, move right until you are to the right of inbox, and press vo period there. Hopefully, this will drag the mailbox from the mailboxes table over into the favorites bar. Hth. Paul. I found the service and I have attached a key to it but, without good results. I can see the service , called, "new terminal at folder" in e.g. the finder program but, it seems not to work with the assigned hotkey and not when I activate it with vo. Any suggestions? Need cloud-based Mac-accessible service for recipes
I'd like to find a cloud-based, Mac-accessible, reasonably-priced service for backing up my recipe collection so I can access my recipes on the go from my iPhone, PC, etc. I'm thinking these files, which would be plain text files, shouldn't take up that much space, but I probably have a couple thousand recipes right now. I'd like to be able to have some basic search capability as well. The service wouldn't necessarily have to be made specifically for recipes. I do have a Dropbox account, but was wondering about other possibilities you might suggest. Thanks in advance for any insights. Re: zipping
The mac can unzip just fine. All you need to do is hit VO spacebar on the zip file and it will extract in the current folder. So, say you have a file called book.zip, it ends up as a new folder inside the current folder, named book, with the zip contents inside it. Hth. Paul. Re: going from an MBP to a MacBook Air
Hey Donna, My macbook air 11 inch will be here tuesday. What upgrades did you get? I have the standard 11 inch model with upgraded i7 processor. It's quite speedy--though I haven't really put it through all its paces yet as I haven't transferred my data over. And the sound is amazingly good for such a small device. I do notice a fairly significant difference in sound between the MBA and my 13-inch MBP, but as you say, not so much of a difference that it would impact my choice of machine. Now the only question remaining is whether I feel rich enough to live without the $1700, especially given that my 2009 MBP is working just fine. The 11in 2010 and 2011 models though for me solve that. there's stereo baby built right in there, and although there's not much bass to talk of, the sound is clear and it packs a surprising amount of punch for its size. put against the 15in, its a notable difference in richness and output, but against the 13in MBP, I think less so. you do have the bass issue and if you like your tones, not just music but Alex etc to have that depth it might make you think, but I find that once I sit down in front of it, unless I'm working with my iMac along side the Air, which I do every now and then, you'll not notice it. Looking at this DVD business, lets see, presumably you're not watching DVD's in the class room etc, so why not just leave the USB drive for that in your hotel etc, I've seen you state that this lack of a DVD drive is a real issue, but only as you seem to watch films, well as someone else has said, a lot of it is downloadable now, you can also rip them, and finally, if you're like me, why should I pay to download something I own on disk, spend the additional $80 and get the super drive... leave it in your hotel room and you're good to go. I use my Air for everything when I'm not at a desk, and my iMac if I am. The issue that a lot of folk seem to be throwing up over spec and performance, you really need to ask yourself what you're going to be doing with it, I find my Air faster than my MBP 15in, which I had as a late 2010 model with full processor upgrade, I think a 2.9Ghz i7 with 4Gb of RAM. but you see most of what I do is word processing, e-mail and internet, oh and iTunes / watching DVD's. I carry my MBA all around the world with me, leaving the super drive in hotel rooms or my carry on in a plane if its a long flight. I personally think its really the way to go if you're seriously looking to lighten the load. there is an InCase sleeve for the 11in and 13in available from the Apple online store, I use this and think its great... for whoever asked that question. Spaces keyboard shortcut disabling
Hi, In lion they have added the ability to switch spaces by using the control left and right arrows. Does anyone know how to disable this functionality? Re: Spaces keyboard shortcut disabling
Hi keith, First, yes you can disable that in Lion. Go to the apple menu, then system preferences, and there go to keyboard. Once opened, move over to the second tab sheet called keyboard shortcuts and hit it with VO space. Now, you have a dialog with 2 tables. In the first table, select mission control by interacting, then moving to column 2, and then VO down till you land on it. Now leave the table by stopping to interact. Then move right over to the second table, and there select move left a space or move right a space. Those are 2 separate entries. Using the checkbox to the left of the description, so the checkbox is in column 1, turn it off for both directions left and right. Now close with command w. Second, you can also decide to tell fusion to not react to os10 keys. This can be done in fusion preferences command comma, and then the keyboard toolbar item. Hth. Paul. Re: Spaces keyboard shortcut disabling
Hi Keith! I'm not on Lion! But a place to look is under your keyboard shortcuts table in the keyboard button in system prefs! There is a lot of categories and keyboard shortcuts in that table! And you should be able to uncheck the keystroke or even put a dash instead of the key combination that is already there! Somewhere Esther had given a way to disable the shortcut strokes to help with the f10 f11 and a couple of others, to help with windows and I should imagine the same might apply here! At the time Esther suggested disabling those keys for normal vo use as well because if a vo user hit them by mistake it was annoying! And disabling them stopped that and freed them up for windows use! hth Colin On 27 Aug 2011, at 16:40, Keith Watson wrote: > Hi, > > In lion they have added the ability to switch spaces by using the control > left and right arrows. Re: Spaces keyboard shortcut disabling
Paul, DOH! For the life of me I can't figure out why I missed that in the second scroll area. Must have been because I had not yet partaken of the bean. Git it now and it seems to be working fine. I like the idea of disabling it in system preferences rather than in Fusion preferences, as Spaces is broken and until they fix it I am boycotting them. Spaces that is. Anyway, thanks for the nudge. Re: going from an MBP to a MacBook Air
Hi, at least in the Dutch apple store you can also get the 256 gb upgrade for the 11 inch model but it is indeed really expensive. I htought about getting it but in the end dicided against it. The decision between 13 and 11 inch was tough but in the end I opted for ultraportability. Greetings, Anouk, Op 27-8-2011 19:58, Mary Otten schreef: So, Donna, you got the 13 inch MBA? Deleting Text
I have a friend who wishes to have characters deleted in the traditional way to how it is done in Windows. She just purchased a Mac. WE were unable to brink up System Preferences with VO F8, not certain why that did not work for her. She loaded VoiceOver, although I could not hear it, but she indicated VoiceOver was on. Is there another way to get to System Preferences other than the shortcut keystroke? Thanks. Les -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. firstly system preferences is not vo f8, that is the voiceover utility one of the reasons you are not able to get to it is because you need to change the keyboard settings to make it the normal way of windows do the following 1 do a spotlight for voice voiceover utility should be the first result 2. go to verbosity with command 2 3 go to the text tab 4 press vo space on the text tab 5 go to where you here when moving the cursor "speak text the cursor passes popup button press vo space on that and change the setting to speak text to the right of the cursor that is fort your voiceover problem now to fix your keyboard issue: press vo m to get to the menu bar press down arrow on the apple menu till you here system preferences press enter stop interacting with the toolbar vo right arrow to the preferences pain, interact with vo shitf down arrow, go to keyboard, and find the check box that says use all f keys as standard function keys thanks -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: safari
Hi Johnny, To set a home page in Safari, bring up the preferences menu with Command+Comma. On the "General" tab of the Preferences menu is an entry for "Home Page:", and you can either type the URL into the text box or, if your current URL address is already set to the location that you want to use as a home page, navigate (VO-Right arrow) to the next "Set to Current Page" home page button and press it (VO-Space). other resources for garageband 11
Hi, A few days ago I discovered www.takecontrolbooks.com, this is a sort of tutorial site for mac users where you can buy ebooks in unencrypted pdf format. They also have two books about garageband 11, recording in gb 11 and making music in gb11, you can find them through their search function. Important: you can get half of the price by getting the promotion coupon they have listed in their free, sponsored vmware fusion 3 ebook. No, as far as I know, windows won't read any extended file systems, although I seem to remember playing with some sketchy driver packages that would let you read an ext1 or ext2 linux formatted drive on windows XP. Re: Need cloud-based Mac-accessible service for recipes
Try Macgormate, The Mac app is a bit pricy, but the iPhone app is free and both are completely accessible. It should do everything your after, and then some. I absolutely love it, so handy to just pull out my iPhone in the kitchen, check an ingredient or step in a recipe with out having to go to my laptop all the time. Happy cooking. :) Kari. upgrading ram and VM fusion
Hi list: Firstly, this is part of a long-term plan to go into broadcasting. It's just going to be easier, as far as I can tell, to broadcast on a virtual machine. My macbook has just the base 2 gigs of RAM. I want 4, as I believe that'ss the most it can support. So, firstly, is it worth paying to have someone install the RAM for me? I don't want to break my mac, obviously, but if it's going to be scary expensive I could probably find a techy friend to do it for me. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, how do I tell fusion to use more ram than its default? After all, there's no sense in upgrading the ram and then letting fusion use its default amount of memory. Thanks in advance, guys. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. To post to this group, send email to macvisionaries@googlegroups.com. Re: Looking for a program like Adobe Audition
Isn't that an audio editor? If so, check out asadeus pro, not sure if that's in the app store, but it's a very accessible audio editor for the mac. Re: backing up virtual windows and jaws/hal keys?
In theory, the key should be backed up along with the virtual machine, if you switch computers or create a new virtual machine, it may cause problems, hard to say. This is why it's best to avoid using software that insists on using this authorization nonsense in the first place. Re: backing up virtual windows and jaws/hal keys?
Well, I need to use office 2007 under windows (and I am a die hard braille user) I am not sure if nvda works with office 2007 yet and anyway its not ideal if you use braille only. Re: 10.7.1 is out everyone
that is a prefference file. You might want to have VO rewrite those files, just a thought. If you would like me to send you an email explaining how to do that, I can. You will have to reset your prefferences in VO, as your settings will be lost.
