Re: Adium And Events
Thanks for the reply. I have everything figured out now. Growl was configured properly. The problem was the way I had voices set up in Lion. I was using Karren as my default system voice. I wanted to use Alex as my alert voice in Adium but this wouldn't work. I had to make Alex my default voice and choose him as my alert voice as well. I guess things aren't completely ironed out with Adium and Lion. Oh well, it's a good thing I'm used to the Alex voice I guess. I do like Karren for reading but I guess I could set an activity up for when I'm doing any lengthy reading. -- Earle Msn: peterson...@sympatico.ca Skype, Twitter, Facebook, and Yahoo: rowdyamerican Aim: rowdyamerican28 On 2011-08-08, at 8:19 AM, erik burggraaf wrote: > Well, it uses growl to voice events. Re: Extremely frustrated with Navigon not transferring to IPhone
a few hours? it shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes via a wi-fi network connection. since my iphone doesn't have a cell service contract, that is how I install to it. also, I can''t seem to get my iphone to talk to my mac (driver problem) and until I get a newer mac, that will continue to be the case. since I am running a first generation intel unit here, the issue is a driver mismatch between watt the iphone wants and what the intel mac presents. I can interface with ipads and ipods all day long but plug in any iphone and no device is detected. saving up money for a new macbook pro or mac mini. I think the mini is more achievable given my budget constraints. -Eric On Aug 9, 2011, at 2:23 AM, Les Kriegler wrote: > Actually, you don't need iTunes to download Navigon. Re: Extremely frustrated with Navigon not transferring to IPhone
Eric, I have a first generation Intel iMac and I have not had any problems connecting an iPhone to it. I do not use that machine any longer since I gave it to my kid, but I don't recall having any problems. If you can connect an iPad to it, the iPhone should work as well. Have you tried other cables? Are you going through a hub by chance? An interesting issue. Re: Adium And Events
You can have a different default voice in Lion if you want to. The reason I had to change back to Alex was because my notifications weren't working properly in Adium. That's probably an Adium or Growl issue though. -- Earle Msn: peterson...@sympatico.ca Skype, Twitter, Facebook, and Yahoo: rowdyamerican Aim: rowdyamerican28 On 2011-08-09, at 6:47 AM, May McDonald wrote: > Oh, so you can't have a different devault voice with Lion? Hi I am not sure I am understanding you correctly, but I managed to have a different system default voice in Lion. I have Fiona as my system voice, and I used to have Tessa as an activity voice for adium. Now I still have Fiona, but switched back to Alex for VO. Re: more dashboard questions
YAY! I love it when people agree with me! *bounce* There are loads of widgets out there--one I like a lot but for which I forget the back trail is one that counts the words in your TextEdit document, or a selection cut/pasted into it. Since I haven't found any way to do this from within TextEdit (at least under Snow Leopard), as a writer, this was a handy widget. The unit converter, included, is also pretty nifty, if you want to make yourself sound lighter by converting to KG from pounds, or something. I use the Weather widget all the time, and the list just spirals out of control from there, and I'll end up using bullets again... • Mark BurningHawk Baxter • AIM, Skype and Twitter: BurningHawk1969 • MSN: burninghawk1...@hotmail.com • My home page: • http://MarkBurningHawk.net/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Airplay Enabled Receivers
Hi All: Its been a while since my last posting. I was wondering about Airplay. Can it be enabled 2 ways? IE: from the receiver that supports it or from the iTunes screen only. I plan on purchasing the Denon AVR-1912, which has the Airplay feature and was interested in it. I also plan on adding Apple TV so that might make airplay kind of moot! LOL If it can be initialized from the receiver side, does the airplay show up as a source and then when you select it, does your iTunes libs show up on the connected display for browsing and playing? On another note: Is anyone experiencing any issues with the latest Safari version for Snow Leopard? I can't get my text fields to announce my typing. Ie: in the google search field and others. I have my VO set to announce each charicter and in Google's text field and others, the carictersaren't announced. I tried other settings in VO to no avail. Hope someone can help with my posting. Safari and Lion
hey all I finally was able to update to Lion last night! finally got the funds and got home from my cabin where I had good internet. the install went off without a hitch…easiest install I've ever done!! and I really like the new layout in mail though I do have a couple questions about it too. but so far I'm really loving Lion and have no want or need to switch back! Safari seems a little interesting, though. Voiceover seems to be reading some things rather interestingly that it didn't before. for example, when I go to my facebook page now, either the mobile site or the regular site, voiceover keeps talking about entering banner. leaving banner. entering navigation. entering complimentary. I'm assuming a banner is a frame, but why would the terminology change? also, instead of reading me peoples' first and last name as it used too, it now just says their facebook nicknames or sometimes just profile.php or a bunch of numbers. it's like it's looking under the link title at maybe a badly coded alt text? or some other text not visible on the screen. why would it be doing this? I'm not one for moving backwards to classic views or anything like that, I'd rather move forward and take changes in technology as they come, but this announcing things weirdly could make a lot of websites look less accessible than they are. is anyone else finding this and is there a way to get voiceover to read things on websites as they are? thanks and I hope you all are having a great day! peace and positivity Jessica and Goldina follow me on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/canadian_diva -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Making a Windows computer a "ruter" for my Macs
Hi folx. Maybe someone here on the list can tell me what I shall do to be able to connect my Macs to the Internet? I made a router out of my Windows-computer, following this guide: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/cool-websites/home-computer-router/ Then I connected my iPod Touch, wich went well, after that I began connecting Macs. Both found the network, and it seemed that they were connected to it, but they didn't use the internet connection from the computer as they should - actually nothing happened. Is there maybe things I should do other than suggested in that guide? Kind regards David -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Safari and Lion
well it might not be an issue at all, just something new. but I just wanna wrap my head around it. what does it mean? and why is it looking under the link text and reading other code instead of the links? is it something to do with the CSS on the websites? maybe I'm over thinking it. but it's weird and makes browsing the web hard! I find if I interact with the links then it shows me what they should really say but if I read them without interacting then it reads the code. someone suggested going into the developer menu and changing user agent to internet explorer but that feels wrong to me lol peace and positivity Jessica and Goldina follow me on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/canadian_diva On 2011-08-09, at 10:26 AM, Christopher-Mark Gilland wrote: > I have seen the issue with entering navigation. Re: Mike H: Question regarding blue tooth non in ear head set's that are studio sounding for the mac.
Hi, firstly I wouldn't be looking for a studio quality headset that connects via bluetooth, The bluetooth standard just doesn't support a high enough bit rate to be considered high quality from a technical point of view. Having said that, I would look at the nokia BH905 bluetooth headset, it is about as good as bluetooth headsets get while the nitrates remain low. Low nitrate however is a very subjective thing and I consider myself to have a good ear and they are certainly verygood quality, so much so infect that you really can't tell they are blueooth. If you aren't so attached to the bluetooth idea and you want real quality. I can't say enough good things about the Beyer Dynamic MMX 300 I think they are called. They are incredible. and come with a USB DAC so you don't have to use the bad quality DACs apple use in their computers. These headsets are neither cheep nor small and compact though so if that is what you want, these are not for you. With headphones you really have to make a compromise though and if you want bluetooth I haven't found a better compromise than the Nokia BH905. Take Care. More Dashboard questions
Hi Donna, Thanks for your response to my post yesterday ref Dashboard. I have one question more, how do you edit the city in the weather widget? Mine is currently set to London and I can't see anyway of editing this. When I clicked on the London clickable icon it took me to the Yahoo page. I entered my city there thinking that might default back but no, London keeps appearing :-) Kindest regards Graham -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Mike H: Question regarding blue tooth non in ear head set's that are studio sounding for the mac.
Again don't get cought up on studio quality. it doesn't actually exist as a standard, I'm guessing all you want is a good quality headset that connects via bluetooth and the best in my opinion is the Nokia. Its very well made as well. If you want something a studio editor would use, you can't have bluetooth however studio quality isn't a qualification or standard. Its just a word that gets banded around to denote high quality. The Nokias are comfy too. they have pads which sit on top of your ear and are noise cancellinging They have 10 microphones, 2 for picking up your voice on a phone call and the other 8 are for active noise reduction. High quality drivers too and they have media controls on one side. They also work with VO very well. Lastly I said in my last post, nitrate, the iphone was auto correcting bit rate. Cheers. RE: Making a Windows computer a "ruter" for my Macs
Hello David, As your question deals with setting up a Windows XP computer as a HotSpot, I will keep this extremely short for it does not really belong on this list. As a courtesy to you, I read the article to which you referred and, to be honest, it leaves much to be desired in terms of variables that simply cannot be addressed in such a short piece. It does not surprise me that, even after following the steps in the article, you were unable to get your XP's Internet connection shared. I'm not saying it cannot be done for I have achieved such a share many, many times but I'm afraid that much more troubleshooting may be necessary in order for you to accomplish your goal. I wish you luck. Re: [M-A] Apple Releases Utility to create USB Key
When you hold down the option key at start up, the drives appear on the screen. VoiceOver can't read it because the system is not running yet. Assuming your Mac is only running Lion, that drive will be the first one, your USB drive will be next, and the recovery partition will be last. So press right arrow once and then enter to boot from your USB drive. Kristyn On Aug 9, 2011, at 7:48 PM, Jeff Berwick wrote: > Thanks for this. Hi, Using the keyboard, do VO-shift-space fort left click and VO-shift-m for right click. These combinations don't work properly in some situations on the web but in those cases, simply route your mouse to the VO cursor with FN-VO-cmd-f5 then press the trackpad so that the physical mouse is pressed. Does VoiceOver work with Dragon Dictate or MacSpeech on a Mac (not the iPad)?
Hello, I am a blind computer user and want very badly to purchase a Mac as I am sick and tired of Windows lack of built-in screen readers. (I used Macs for years but had to shift to Windows because of my job.) Since I am partly paralyzed, I have trouble typing. I need VoiceOver to automatically read aloud the text that Dragon Dictate has typed onto the screen. For example, if I say "Today is Sunday," Dragon Dictate will print "Today is Sunday" on the screen. I need VoiceOver to read "Today is Sunday" aloud automatically when it appears on the screen, without my having to stop and ask Dragon to read it. I have searched the web looking for information on this to no avail. If I used Dragon Dictate in iWorks, Pages, ot TextEdit would VoiceOver read the text to me as it appears, even if it won't read it to me in Dragon's dedicated composition window. Would MacSpeech work better? If anyone knows anyone with Dragon Dictate or MacSpeech who could check this for me, I would be very grateful. Re: Does VoiceOver work with Dragon Dictate or MacSpeech on a Mac (not the iPad)?
hello, yes Dragon Dictate does work on an actual Mac computer, this is evidenced by the fact that I'm writing this e-mail completely with Dragon Dictate, the thing that you must be aware of is that as you dictate, is probably an extremely good idea to turn voiceover off. You can certainly use voice over when you are not dictating. It is kind of tricky to edit your documents, I would strongly suggest that if you do do this if you can invest in a good braille display. Just my thoughts. Maurice minds, amateur radio call sign KD0IKO. Note this e-mail has been dictated with Dragon dictate, please forgive any errors in the software, and they may be the result of the software, or the dictation process. Thank you very much for reading this. Re: Resolution to iTunes lag in Lion.
Really? I didn't do anything for me but, lag wasn't really my issue. Its keyboard focus, and voiceover busying me to death when I try to do anything with the music table. Re: Copying files frone one drive to another.
Hi, but doesn't command V work? after all, isn't your goal to transfer the files to the thumb drive so removing them from the original location at the same time would just be a bonus? sure wish they'd fix the focus issues with Voice Over and Safari
boy oh boy, This is about to drive me just plain nuts!!! A lot of times, when I launch Safari, I don't get the sound telling me that a web page is loaded and I hear Voice Over saying "Search edit box has keyboard focus". When I go to any page after that, I always need to interact with the page, and, VO+J will not bring me to any form controls or edit boxes on the page even though I know good and well they are there. Sometimes, toggling Voice Over on and off helps but not always. Hiding the tool bar is not much help. Seems to me they've just got to get that fixed!! Anybody got any other ideas how to get around that? Sincerely, The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!! Now a very proud and happy Mac user!!!
