In Lion the Library-folder in my user has disappeared, so now I can't

adium not working under lion

2011-08-01 Thread johns.kary
Hopefully this will be the last question. lol

Ever since I've installed lion, adium has refused to work.
Wen I try to open adium I get the message, "adium has quit unexpectedly"
I've googled it, and haven't found a lot on the problem.
There was nothing that I've seen to say that adium was one of the apps that was
incompatible with OS lion.
Any one having this problem or no what's going on?

Thanks,
Kari.

Re: Music player

2011-08-01 Thread erik burggraaf
Hi Angie,

ITunes is marginally better on mac than on windows. IMHO though, the whole
idea of ITunes is ridiculous. It's a benighted, proprietary piece of
bloatware. Personaly I use VLC for my stuff. It's playlist based and non
proprietay.

You can get vlc from www.videolan.org. You'll be happy you did. ITunes balks
me at every turn, but really and truely, I can't think of a single task that
ITunes dows that a third party program doesn't do much better.

Hello David,

Apple has hidden the User's Library folder by default in Lion. You can use one
of the suggestions in the following cnet article to either unhide the folder
using a terminal command or use the finder to go directly to the folder without
unhiding it.

Accessible DVD ripper for Paul

2011-08-01 Thread Allison Manzino
Hi Paul,

I also use the program DVD Remaster that Doug spoke of earlier. I have used it
to successfully create m4v files to place on my Iphone. I can break the
copyright encription with Fairmount a program included with DVD Remaster. Note
this is only done for my own personal use to transfer the content of the
commercial DVVDs to my Iphone. I believe you can also extract the audio from
DVDs as well with DVD Remaster. I have done this as well, and it works
flawlessly. Hope this helps. Have a great day.

ABBYY FineReader for Lion

2011-08-01 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello everyone,

Here is the link to download the Lion compatible version of ABBYY FineReader
for those who, like me, bought it through the Website.

The link starts the download automatically.

Cheers,

Re: ABBYY FineReader for Lion

2011-08-01 Thread Dan
Hello Ann,
While I don't like to make a habit of posting thank you message, here's one
that I feel is an exception.
This is because many people have purchased ABBYY Fine Reader Prior to Lion and
from the web instead of the App Store.
Again, I for one really appreciate the link. I was Promised, by an ABBYY
employee that I'd be emailed the link when it became available. That didn't
happen. So this is why I'm saying thanks.

Re: Looking for an accessible DVD ripper

2011-08-01 Thread Chris Blouch
Might want to give RipIt a try. They have a free demo version to
download which lets you do a couple rips before you have to buy it.
Purchase cost is $25. It's main thing is to copy protected disks but it
will also do compression to create versions for ipods and such.

Is there something similar to the slysoft programs that is accessible on the

seem to be having an issue with downloads window

2011-08-01 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay.

Here's the thing. When I hide the tool bar in Safari, and I download a file,
if I press Command+Option f and VO right to the downloads window button, I
press the downloads window button and then I still cannot see the downloads
window. The only way for me to see the downloads window is to show the tool
bar, stop interacting with the HTML content and click the downloads button from
the tool bar. Anybody else notice this? If this doesn't happen to you, how do
you click the downloads button with the tool bar hidden?

Re: Accessible DVD ripper for Paul

2011-08-01 Thread Esther
Hi Paul and Allison,

DVD Remaster is available from both the Mac App store and the developer's web
site:
http://www.metakine.com/products/dvdremaster/

If you get this from the Mac App store, I believe that you are directed back to
the web site to get the Fairmount program. The web site also lets you download
a free trial version of the software. Note that at present purchasing through
the developer's web site and purchasing through the Mac App store are two
different processes. The Mac App store doesn't provide for trial downloads and
additional files. However, the process of automatic update is simpler. You
might want to download the trial, then delete it and purchase from the Mac App
Store if you decide to get DVD Remaster.

Handbrake is also accessible, and free. Most review comparisons I've read
state that you get substantially faster rips if you use DVD Remaster. Also,
if you want separate audio extraction, you want the Pro version $49.99 vs.
$39.99), which I believe is what is sold in the Mac App Store.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: ABBYY FineReader for Lion

2011-08-01 Thread William Windels
Hello Anne and others,
thx for this message.
I have just installed the program and I have played with it for some minutes.
I see no difference on the first look and this seems a litlebit disappointing
for me.
I mean: it's still not possible to set preferences.
Abby finereader wasn't able in the past to scan and ocr at the same time.
But, the result of what it can is quiet good.

Also, I have some further (update) questions:
I am scanning with a canon 700f lide, like you have I think Anne.
To scan, I use the mp navigator ex v2.1 so that the keys for fast action on my
scanner should work.
However, there should be at least one bug in that peace of software: the
scanner is sometimes reacting very slow or not when I press the keys on the
scanner to start a scan-task.

At the moment , I am running lion but it was installed above sl so not a clean
install.
Perhaps it should not work anymore when I do a clean install on friday.
>> (the infovox voices are also still working on lion without installing the
>> registration update).

So:
Does anyone get information about newer software to scan with me canon 700f
life?
And, if possible, does anyone know a solution for the bug about the fast keys
on the scanner that react very slow?

Thanx a lot for your reactions.

best regards,
William

Kevin,

While I appreciate the positive conclusion to your post, please do not
editorialize the tone of other list members.

Everyone is free to post their personal experience about apple-related
products to this list.

If you would like to suggest that list members send feedback to Apple
accessibility, then a simple post containing a polite sentence or two
followed by an email address would suffice.

Kevin, I post this reply, on-list not to embarrass you, for I and others

list conclusions.

Thank you for your contribution to the list and I hope this finds you happy,
safe, and well.

Re: Accessible DVD ripper for Paul

On another note. Is there a DVD ripper program that will allow you to merge
multiple DVD's? What I mean is, what if you have a box set, or a mini serious,
will it allow you to put 3 DVD's in one file?

library folder

2011-08-01 Thread Mike Arrigo
Hey everyone, I noticed that in Lion, in my home folder there is no longer a
library folder, does anyone know where this has disappeared to? Or is this now
a hiden folder? If so, I can configure the finder to show hiden files and
folders, but this can get a bit cluttered.

Hey Mike.
Another thing you can do is press command shift G for go to folder and then
type ~/Library.
Then once you've gone there, make an alias to the library folder.

rolling back safari

2011-08-01 Thread Mary Otten
Hi folks,

I have time machine back ups going back to when I first got this Mac. I want to
roll back to the previous version of Safari, since the new one comes up busy
busy busy after I go through a few web pages in a session, and the old one did
not do that. This far outweighs any minor benefits of the new one, especially
since I'm using SL still. So, should I just be able to use time machine and
find an old version of safari and copy that over? I've never downgraded an app
before.

I've just got it working again.
I had tried reinstalling it a couple of times a few days ago with no success,
I deleted and reinstalled it again last night with the same result.
But I gave it one more shot this morning after reading that you had no problems
with it, and fore some strange reason in worked perfectly, and is still working
perfectly.
So absolutely no idea what happened there, but at least it's working again.
Thanks for your help,

Magic Trackpad and IPhone

2011-08-01 Thread Christopher Peppel
Hi there,

I have been playing around with the Magic trackpad since I have upgraded to
Lion. Figured I would give it another chance. In spite of having the settings
at their lowest point, it still seems to sensitive. Might this be a good
indication not to get an IPhone? I was thinking of upgrading to one but don't
want to waist the money if it won't work. Any replies would be greatly
appreciated.

Hello,
You really can't compare the trackpad with the iPhone. They are two completely
different devices.
The touch screen on any of the iOS devices does much more than the trackpad.

moving around mail?

2011-08-01 Thread
Okay, I have played with this for a couple of days so I could make sure it
worked. What I did to get to the top of my messages without having to push
4 or more keys, is created a key commander. So to get to the top of my
mailbox, any of them, all I have to do is hit option key and the number one.
Now getting to the bottom, I still have to use VO plus shift plus end, and
since the end key is on the right arrow, that's 4 keys I have to push to get
to the bottom. But 90 percent of the time I don't want to go to the bottom
of my mailbox or folder, so this partial solution fits me well. HTH
