Question on iTunes stores not in your country
Hey all, Just curious. I went to the AU store and attempted to create an account. However, since people outside their country can buy stuff in other stores, how does one get valid billing info for said store without getting into Frawd? An album I want just came out in the AU store today. Thanks. Re: mac vs jfw
If you can wait another 6 months, Mac 9S X 10.7 (Lion) will probably be out by then and it will come free with your new Mac. This will have even more VoiceOver goodies installed. Of course, if you do not want to wait that long, you can always upgrade your OS when Lion comes out, the beauty of the Mac is even blind users can install an OS without sighted assistance. I much prefer surfing on my Mac as I can whizz around web pages much quicker then I can on Windows with JAWS. Plus VoiceOver is more stable. Web browsing, Email and Skype and iTunes work very well with VoiceOver on the Mac. My only gripe is that Office for Mac is not accessible, that really would be the cherry on the cake for me. And it would be nice if some music packages were as accessible as Reaper and Sonar are on Windows, but the Mac is steadily coming along in those areas. Re: VM Fusion update available
Hi, I've got the new update, stumbled across it yesterday. One wonderful thing with the new update is that the sound seems to be fixed, the sound in Windows is now as loud and nice as that on the mac side. /Krister 3 dec 2010 kl. 20.52 skrev Scott Granados: > Hi just a heads up that a new VM fusion is available for download. Re: mac vs jfw
Hi! Definitely agree with this. In fact, I hear that the Mac OS X 10.7, Lion, is going to be a sort of "business" addition. Of course, I'm sure we all remember the "truly amazing feature", but it sounds slightly illogical that VoiceOver wouldn't handle tables properly in documents eventually. While VoiceOver actually does handle tables just fine, VoiceOver does not announce them. That seems to be the big issue, and it is nice to know what cells you're working with. If you are going to buy a Mac, though, you could go ahead and do it before Lion is released. I have to wonder if Apple will do what they did with Snow Leopard and lower the price for some Mac owners who purchased a Mac within a certain period. Re: mac vs jfw
Hello Oriol, You most likely will have to get it at an Apple Store. However, you can probably pre-order the DVD in advance online at some point, and this is actually very doable through the store itself. It's not going to be a digital download. Well, really, I can't say, but I can't imagine since you need to actually restart your Mac to install the upgrade. Of course, if there was a way to push it through Software Update, no one knows. But that'd be highly inconvenient if you have to actually reinstall Mac OS X 10.7. I'd gamble on a DVD as usual for the moment. Hi again, Oh, and to add to that. Perhaps the Mac APp Store, as that is due to arrive soon, apparently. That might actually be a convenient method, given that I believe the Mac App Store will actually be imbedded into Mac OS X 10.7, possibly allowing you to authorize the installation within the setup wizard. Of course, the ability to grab the file and put it somewhere, then allowing it to become bootable would be necessary after that, but I don't see why not. Yes, I know this is just speculative thinking. But I guess anything is possible right now. You never know! I'd certainly like not to have boxes lying around with my installation DVDs, and at least, that way I don't have to worry about losing them not that I'm going to. As for running Bootcamp, do be aware if you are going to be using 64-bit and the Bootcamp on your Snow Leopard DVD. The DVD will actually claim it will not work, but it will if you use CMD on Windows. I do not know if you can grab the Bootcamp 3.1 of Apple's website, then apply it directly without possessing 3.0. I seem to get a crash every time I just install 3.1 updating from 3.0 though, oddly enough. Of course, the fact I forced my way passed Apple's 64-bit lockdown may have something to do with it, but otherwise, it works fine. My findings with Openoffice 3.3 RC7
Hello, Lately Openoffice has been recommended as accessible and working fairly well so i thought i'd give it another spin, and this is what grumpy old me has found. After my findings, i will post some questions. Writing is no problem in Writer, which i use the most, in fact i haven't been into the other apps in the suite, because i don't really know how to handle them, Reading in writer, however, is a totally different matter. You can't use VOs read all command, that just doesn't work, either you hear one sentence or word then it stops or you hear nothing. The problem that always has been in OOO, where you for every new line being typed get a separate edit box, or so Vo believes, is still there. When i tried to select text, nothing was spoken to indicate that text had been selected at all. Either i do something wrong, or the functionality with telling if something is selected just isn't there in VO. I don't know if it is me who don't give the program a fair chance or what it is, but i find Openoffice not workable, at least not writer, so i wonder, how do people do to go around the program? Do you read text with the arrows or the voiceover commands? When i read with arrows, the text got repeated 2 times, very anoying. Does anyone have any tips that can be useful in dealing with Openoffice? Any help would be appreciated since i really want to learn the beast if i am to demonstrate it to others. /Krister -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: mac vs jfw
Well it was only $35 canadian for me to upgrade from leopard to snowleopard. It was so cheep that one of the companies I work for gave out about 6 or 8 of them to customers who purchased macs in that year, and paid me to go out and do most of the upgrades. Which as you know is a joke. Drink coffee and listen to the cd hum in the drive basicly, smiles. Re: Can't Get Home Sharing Working
Hi, Home sharing is for iTunes only. Once you've turned it on for all computers attached to the same iTunes account, you'll find the other computer s in the Sources Table within the Shared section. This section is just after the iTunes Store and/or Devices items if you have them enabled or something attached. You must have iTunes on for any machine you wish to access, otherwise, it won't show up in the list. Also, once you select the other computer from the list, there are settings options you can set to control what is automatically brought to each computer. HTH. Later... Re: My finder is busy and not responding
Dear Annie. I've had these problems since updating. Also when in safari on occasions, VO crashes and I don't know what to do so I just shut down or turn voice over on and off. This doesn't happen a lot but there are occasions since the update and there is no pattern or warning when it's going to go strange. Kawal. I don't use Writer for the reasons you have stated, though I find Calc great for all my spreadsheet needs. I'm still getting by with Text Edit for text work as I don't create fancy documents, but there are free word processors, so I just mix and match. RE: trouble creating an account in itunes
Hi Jude and Rafaela, The clicking sound starts when I interact with the field. I have the mouse cursor follow the VO cursor. But I have asked my sighted brother to look at the screen and look what happens in the field. There happens nothing during the clicking and you can just put the password in and log in. The reason I didn't got through that particular screen was because I had to fill some additional information on the Apple account page first. It is all done and fine now. [smile] So Chad, you can just fill in your password. Thanks for your replies. Double-Spacing and changing font with TextEdit
Hi, I just got a MacBook Pro about three weeks or so ago. I love everything about it, all except one thing. What I'm primarily using my window PC for now is writing papers. This is because I can't figure out how to change the spacing to double, and the font to times new Roman, and to size 12 from within TextEdit. I know that the font changing can be done with the format menu, I think, but I'm not sure how to do that, and save those changes to the document I'm working on. What I'm not sure can be done is double-spacing. If so, can anyone tell me how to do this, and how to change the font? sending a long voice memo above 8 minutes
Hello. I've got a voice memo I recorded that's about 9 minutes long. I don't want to trim it and send it in 2 parts. Is there a way to get around the mail limit of 8 minutes for a voice memo with out syncing to my computer and sending that way? I hate that limit and the file is only about 4 mb in size. I wish apple would take that little thing away and only go by size or let your mail account handle it. Take care. question about games on mac
Hi, I'm sure this, or something like this has been asked before, but I'm rather new to the list, so haven't seen much about it. Is it possible to play windows audio games on a mac? I gave vmware fusion a try on a friends computer, but the delay when playing games while not much normally, does get quite annoying. Is there any other vertualization software, or something like it that will let me do this? Re: Double-Spacing and changing font with TextEdit
When you open TextEdit, don't interact with the edit field. Hit vo+left arrow until you hear "rooler." Then interact with the rooler. After you interact with the ruler, Vo left or right arrow until you find the paragraph and line spacing menu. After that, vo+space to open that menu. Then down arrow until it says double space and press enter. On Dec 4, 2010, at 2:45 PM, Brianna Snyder wrote: > Hi Colin, > > Thanks, that'll definitely help. But...I can't find the ruler. Hi, If your ruler is not showing itself, you may have accidentally pressed cmd-r which hides it. Try this: 1. Press cmd-comma to bring up your Preferences. 2. Make sure the New document tab is selected. 3. Navigate until you find the Show Ruler checkbox. 4. Make sure it is checked. 5. If the ruler still isn't showing after you return to the regular TextEdit window, just Quit and re-open TextEdit and it should show itself. can I make audio cd's of iTunes purchased music
Ok, that might sound like a stupid question, but as I was about to buy Susan Boyle's The Gift, my husband Gary warned me that he did not think I could burn an audio cd to play on a conventional cd player from an iTunes store music purchase. Marlayna, It definitely seems like it! Tim's page is really helpful. It's just what I needed to start writing my papers on the Mac. :) I'm sure that there's much, much more things taht I don't know about the Mac that I'll learn from everyone here. Hi Marlaina, Your husband is incorrect. Not that I like to contribute to the cause of husbands being so often incorrect, but, he is in this case. Hi Brianna, Yes, leave your TextEdit documents in Rich Text format especially when using it as a word processor. You have much more capabilities with respect to formatting and such that are not inherent in a Plain Text document. I tend to only use Plain Text when using TextEdit for HTML sorts of things. Re: can I make audio cd's of iTunes purchased music
Ok, how do I do it then? Sorry, I am really really struggling with iTunes and we just bought the apple tv and now I can't figure out how to tell iTunes to use my netgear file server as the base for my library, and I can't figure out how to burn albums to cd. I'm glad to know the latter can be done, but how do I do it? When I'm in iTunes, I see individual song names and I see a checkbox next to each which is checked. Any help with getting albums burned to CD and getting iTunes to know that all my music resides on an in-home external file server will be worth its weight in gold and a note to Santa from me on your behalf, :) Marlaina On Dec 4, 2010, at 2:59 PM, Tim Kilburn wrote: Hi Marlaina, Your husband is incorrect. Re: can I make audio cd's of iTunes purchased music
Hi Marlaina! Just pick one of the albums you want to burn to disc, and open it then select all with command+ a, then stop interacting with the song list and scroll left and you should be given a option to make audio disc or burn to disc button just put in a blank disc and vo+space and away it should go! You can also check in system prefs under cds and dvds! to see what your Mac is set to do when you put in a blank disc! To get your Itunes to see your external library you need to change that in Itunes prefs command+comma interact with tool bar and select the advanced button and stop interacting with tool bar, then you should see the first option is Itunes library location and thats where you can change it to your external drive but I'm not sure of the instructions of how you do it! Maybe someone else has that know how! hth Colin On 4 Dec 2010, at 23:10, Marlaina Lieberg wrote: > Ok, how do I do it then? Web browsing, Email and Skype and iTunes work very well with VoiceOver on the Mac. My only gripe is that Office for Mac is not accessible, that really would be the cherry on the cake for me. And it would be nice if some music packages were as accessible as Reaper and Sonar are on Windows, but the Mac is steadily coming along in those areas. Re: can I make audio cd's of iTunes purchased music
Hi Louie, Yes you are correct. Think of it this way, why do we lock our cars? The regular run-of-the-mill thief will be stopped by a locked door but a professional, if I can call them that, can get in, shut off the alarm, and take the car in a matter of seconds. So, then why do we have DRM you ask? Two reasons come to mind, the artists and record label people made it a condition of the digital sales process and secondly, because then us honest people will actually purchase our music, movies and other media content. Re: can I make audio cd's of iTunes purchased music
Hi Marlaina, To burn an album to CD, I would first create a playlist with the songs I wish on the CD: 1. Search for the album name. 2. Check the songs it found, if OK then go to #3. 3. Press cmd-a for Select All. 4. Press cmd-shift-n to Create Playlist from Selection (also under the File menu). 5. Name your playlist. 6. Go under the File menu and choose Burn Playlist to CD. A dialog will apear where you can say whether you want it to be an audio CD, mp3 CD or Data CD, how much gap to have between songs and whether to use SoundCheck or not. Once all those choices have been made, press the Burn button. It will then ask you to insert the proper kind of CD and the process will begin. If you wish your NetGear server to house your iTunes media then do the following: 1. Make sure that your computer is always connected to the NetGear server. 2. Make sure that the media is in a single folder on that server. 3. Open iTunes. 4. Press cmd-comma to bring up the iTunes Preferences. 5. Select the Advanced tab in the ToolBar. 6. Press the Change button just after the iTunes Media location. 7. Press cmd-shift-c to bring up the list of attached devices. 8. Select the NetGear server and expand it using VO-backslash. 9. Locate the folder with all the music/media, select it then Stop Interacting with the Table. 10. Press Choose and wait for iTunes to build the Library file. That should do it. iTunes may re-organize the folder structure within the media folder in the process but that shouldn't hurt anything. Now, as long as you have access to the NetGear server and as long as you are connected to it when you open iTunes, life should be good. As well, you should have your Apple TV paired to your iTunes Library and then it can just stream all your media from the computer to the TV. It will stream movies, TV shows, music and will even use your iPhoto pictures as the screensaver while playing music if you wish. This is a really nice feature for sighted people as it does a fantastic job of flipping through the photos on your TV screen while listening to your favourite music through the stereo. HTH. Later... Re: can I make audio cd's of iTunes purchased music
Hi Marlaina, I'm not sure what the situation was like a couple years ago, but I think iTunes always allowed people to burn their music onto a CD, if maybe only a limited number of times. However, as of January 2009, iTunes removed drm protection from all of the music that they sell. You can burn your Music to CD, transfer it to any computer or portable player that you have, or convert it from the original m4a format to mp3. There is no longer any restriction. See this article for more info. http://www.macworld.com/article/137946/2009/01/itunestore.html Hope this helps. Re: musicality
Jason, Thanks for your help in trying to make the interface more accessible. The idea of having a way to search for music through the menus would overcome some of the tricky things that flash does I think. Is there a way to adjust the volume of the music through musicality controls or does that have to be done through the website interface? Another way to burn audio CDs
Hi All, Just wanted to expand on the question Marlaina asked. I think it has been answered but Tim and Colin's responses reminded of a little bug I noticed in Itunes 10. If this is not a bug, please correct me. I'm not sure. All I know is when I burn an audio CD, the burn to disk button does not show up as it did in previous versions of Itunes. I have to hit command A to select all, and then hit VO M and go in to the file menu. From there, I select burn to disc. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? I cannot create ringtones anymorre, Itunes keeps asking me to choose a library even after I have done so. But that is a post for another time. Thank you again and have a great day. Re: Another way to burn audio CDs
ITunes is really strange. At first I had an ITunes library. Then a version upgrade of ITunes didn't like that library so made me a new one and called ITunes1. After that, with each version upgrade ITunes can't figure out which library to use so what I was told in the smmug meeting was to hit escape on that question and go on with whatever I was doing. The problem probably is that the old ITunes library is still taking up space on the hard drive and either needs to have stuff salvaged from it and then be disposed of or just that it needs to be deleted. That is probably the long-term solution to this problem. On Sat, 4 Dec 2010, Allison Manzino wrote: Hi All, Just wanted to expand on the question Marlaina asked. Hurrah I did it! I tried Tim's steps below and they worked; I am now going to try Colin's steps in a previous message. One thing though: I see all my songs, I don't get a list of albums; so I have to scroll through all my songs to find the album I want to burn. Surely that can't be right? Marlaina my Huskies were ahead of the Koogers and now they are tied at 28! Wonder if I can pay attention to learning more iTunes stuff and watching this darned game! Go Huskies go! HTH. Later... new release of drop box and some warnings
Hi list, Just wanted to let you know that i downloaded the RC1 of drop box, and apart from getting a permissions warning, thus unabling me to install it, drop box is having some strange behaviors in terms of the memory and CPU usage. I was creating a symbolic link to my documents folder, and and my macbook's fan started whirring loudly. At first i thought it something else, but i checked activity moitor and saw that apart from taking 58% of CPU usage, it was also eating up half of my RAM, about 4 GB until it cooled down. One more thing to note, out of all the running processes on my mac, drop box is the only one that's still intel and not 64. SO before downloading the latest RC1 which is more of a build with instabilities, i suggest you guys let it be for a tad, unless it works fine on your system, meaning i gotta do some cleanups :) Best regards, Yuma DX® "Light has no value without darkness" blog: http://www.theblindsamurai.com twitter: http://www.twitter.com/triple7 Tel: +64 210 22 77 190 Phnom Penh: +85589900095 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. the adobe flash accessibility petition
Hey list, I remember about 16 months ago, i participated in a petition made by maccessibility in regards to making the flash player accessible. I remember that they said it would take another 18 months to get that through. Well, the date is about to be reached, and with all this talk about flash eating up ressources, battery and being as open as a lidless jar of cookies, pun intended, i really don't care what they might do and at which rate, but it would be interesting to know if they have even gone forward on that. Just saying this because i've been looking into the lumigo T1 androïd phone holding bang and olufsen hardware within, and saught to look into some of the accessibility inherent to that phone. And flash is probably prominent. Another area in which flash is rather ubiquitous are the shockwave powered online courses. It's a bit of a frustration not being able to take certain courses because flash has pasted itself all over the net. This just makes me reminisce when i was having loads of fun creating futuristic interfaces. Best regards. Re: the adobe flash accessibility petition
Events are rapidly overtaking adobe and flash in terms of html 5.0. Very probably once that comes out adobe flash will be able to be put in the junk software museum and left there as a particularly bad relic for the future. Another problem for web petitions is those are often used by spam artists to collect valid email addresses for their own uses. It's a bit of a frustration not being able to take certain courses because flash has pasted itself all over the net. This just makes me reminisce when i was having loads of fun creating futuristic interfaces. Best regards. Re: can I make audio cd's of iTunes purchased music
Marlaina, You can do a number of things so that you don't have to scroll through all your songs. 1. use the Search field. • Select the Music item from the Sources List. • Stop Interacting With it. • Navigate once left to the Search field. • Enter the album name. • It should only show you songs in that album in the Songs Table. • You can then simply make a playlist and burn it. or... 2. Use a different view. • Navigate right through your iTunes window. • Select Grid view. • Continue navigating right past the Sources List and select "Group by Albums". • You should be able to create playlists from any album you've imported so that you could burn a CD. I'd also like to note though that since you have an Apple TV, you can simply play your music through the Apple TV on your sound system and thus there isn't really an urgent need to burn everything to CD. Re: the adobe flash accessibility petition
Your point is valid, but if you have seen what flash can do visually, you would have a different opinion on the matter. We are left out of the flash advances because it is actually completely visually oriented. This makes giving a more audio textual functionality to it less enticing for the makers, who are after all, not as capable or have the ressources to dedicate a full team on the subject. As for the spam thing, i believe maccessibility is an honorable site with real intentions when proposing a petition for such matters as accessibility, as it's their spinach and butter. So no fear of being spammed, google's backing me up on this :) "Light has no value without darkness" blog: http://www.theblindsamurai.com twitter: http://www.twitter.com/triple7 Tel: +64 210 22 77 190 Phnom Penh: +85589900095 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: the adobe flash accessibility petition
It doesn't matter whether any site dealing in petitions is honorable or not. Most of the times when hackers get that information, the sites themselves don't even know that it's been done let alone profit from any arrangement with criminals. The criminals break into the sites and grab what they want and then leave. Most of the Federal Government with the exception of a few intelligence agencies regularly looses encyclopedais worth of data to criminals and enemy hackers, so how is it you think any single web site has any chance against such an attack? None of those web sites have anywhere near the resources the Federal Government has. And that's the United States Federal Government I refer to; other Governments are in no better a position either. Sorry but i just did it last year, and i got no spam, as i explained that i went through gmail. Maybe that's enough simple and flat. I'm not here to discuss about federal stuff i have fed myself with all week due to wikileaks, but more about flash? So there's your answer.
