Re: One Password for the Mac
Yuma, THank you very much for the feedback. I like some of the features of the software and not sure how this fits in with keychains on the Mac. I know you can store some information in the keychain, but to the best of my knowledge it will not enter the info and of course sync between devices. I have had the iPhone app for a really long time (since it was initially offered for free during a previous holiday) and never really used it. Now I finally tried it out and now it sits on my home screen. :) I guess I will have to look at this software a bit more closely now. Free Mac 10.6 tutorial

no night without stars
Cheree Heppe here: This may seem self-evident to some, but I am not a first adopter and not a confident tech person. Before my IPad got updated to the newest OS release, the wallpaper had shown a field of stars. The new OS apparently didn't offer this choice, so, in an excellent example of learned helplessness, I asked the store rep to change the wallpaper for me to what would be the closest to the field of stars. After all, in other mainstream applications, I couldn't make such adjustments. When I got home, I opened the IPad settings and found wallpaper and opened it, just to see what would happen. I was one of the most surprised and delighted blind users in the universe to find that the wallpaper views were described. I took the chance and selected the view of earth from space myself, and returned to the home screen. My sighted daughter confirmed that I had indeed selected this view as my home screen wallpaper. My daughter sounded surprised and delighted that I could accomplish something she and I both had previously considered the province of the fully sighted. Thank you, whoever you are, with Apple's structure and development teams, for discernment and vision in your ideas of what blind users can or should be able to do. Re: taking pictures with the computer
Hi, If you simply wish pictures of a person, you can use the PhotoBooth app that comes with your Mac. Simply start the app while sitting at your computer, locate the shutter button that is VO labeled and smile. Pretty well any digital camera can be connected to the Mac and most have auto-focus if you get the point-and-shoot style. Your issues will come when you are attempting to frame the target properly. Re: One Password for the Mac
Hi Yuma, I am not sure all what Keychain can do, but I went ahead and purchased 1Password and took advantage of the Thanksgiving sale and gave my wife a free license. I also sent a note to them requesting they consider labeling buttons etc. Got a quick note back stating they are aware and will keep it in mind for another version. I'll keep pestering/I mean encouraging them to address this. Although you are correct that it is not difficult to figure out how this software works, I still believe it is important that they take the little time necessary to address some of these issues. Honestly, a lot of the items are simple to address. Re: One Password for the Mac
I agree with you. Those unlabelled item lists are a recurrent theme in terms of accessibility or the lack thereof, and i'd take some time to know which component is rendered accessible through the frameworks in coco which act as on switches. There are a couple of other applications having the same issue, such as Algoriddim's DJ which has half made it work since the item list for tracks is totally accessible and the one for playlists shows unknowns though they are browsable just like the one password item lists. I got x-code installed but so far haven't jumped into the deeper framework elements to see which ones do that. Might actually look into it as soon as i finish my system admin certification :) Best Yuma DX® "Light has no value without darkness" blog: http://www.theblindsamurai.com twitter: http://www.twitter.com/triple7 Tel: +64 210 22 77 190 Phnom Penh: +85589900095 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Wireless Netowrk and VO Issue
Greetings, For the last little while I have been having a problem with my Macbook Pro when connecting to my home network. I have set up my router to not broadcast. Users must enter the network name and password when setting up their machines, but once set up, there are no problems. the MBP is supposed to default to my home network called "12Dove", however upon waking or booting, it defaults to WLAN. Each time I wake or boot the MBP, I have to enter the network name and password manually. Even if "Remember This network" is checked it does not remember. With Voiceover, when I get to the Join a network dialog box, I can navigate the network name field and the combo box describing the type of security. Once I choose WPA2 Personal, Voiceover loses focus of the control altogether and I have to VO-F2 to bring up the window again to enter the password. I also have an iMac which has no problem connecting to the network. My iPhone sees the network as well. Helpful and enlightened replies would be appreciated. a potential template for accessibility requests
Hi list, I just looked into apple's accessibility guidelines, and skimmed over it to better understand where NSaccessibility classes can make standard coco elements more visible to blind uusers. Here is the template request message: Hello, THis mail is in regards to a general desire from the blind community to provide itself greater productivity and features when we purchase your software, and i've dug a bit deeper into the guidelines presented by Apple in their coco framework, namely the accessibility API which reflects on all standard interface elements present in the majority of mac software for intel macs. I wanted to give you guys a headstart in making your coco native application accessible to blind users as this would greatly enhance our experience in using your software, as well as allow you to grant more sophisticated elements in the interface of your applications. To start with, here is the outline as per edited on the apple developer center, touching on the need to standardize applications to allow a wider audience to access your software. https://developer.apple.com/ue/accessibility/accessibilityincocoa.html As you might see in the above article, accessibility APIs and descriptions, available in accessibility.H are bound to many standard ui element classes, and are also hierarchy relevant, whereas an accessibility class can be plugged to hierarchical elements such as item lists and interface areas, rendering the whole accessible by just plugging the accessibility classes. Those of main interest are accessibility role and description. The Former allows screen readers to know what an element on the interface is, a button, a scroll bar, and each individual elements of complex elements (a scroll bar has 5 elements, the top and bottom buttons, the underlying bar, overlay bar and the holder of all the elements. The second important class, description, is like a tag which will tell the screen reader what the function of the button or list item is, mainly either a static tag as in a sync button would need a description of "sync" and dynamic elements would pull from a value given to the item on the list by default for sighted users. These examples are for standard UI classes, and customized ones can also have the "accessibility plug" appended to them. I apologize for this longish mail, but after a few years understanding what elements are inaccessible due to graphic interpretations making buttons unlabeled, or descriptions unnecessary due to dynamic text being visible to sighted users but not obvious for screen readers. i wanted to make a template and try to help you guys apprehend the concepts for making those already accessible elements more descriptive for blind users. In hopes that this might engender some interest in applying those standards requested by Apple, i just wanted to let you know that your software does make an enormous difference in my life as it provides me with the tools necessary to stay active and participate in the growth of the mac eco-system. Sincerely, I believe that since most macs and applications have switched to coco, instilling more head-start specifications to developers would help them know where to start and how accessibility apis are structure and mirrored with standard code. When reading this article, and looking into the header file as well as the API, it seems very straight-forward, and perhaps having a repository of either standard UI elements and their respective codes, as well as looking into the custom elements sometimes necessary for certain applications, such as garage band's timeline features, deconstructing the hierarchical orders of these master elements would be very helpful on a mid-term. If anyone has some information on these issues, coders or researchers, please don't hesitate to contact me as i will try to make a unified document which would be used to hand out to developers in an easy concise method. Re: a potential template for accessibility requests
Yuma, This is great and thank you very much for your efforts and sharing this information. I think this would be worth sending to the folks at Agile SOftware (1 Password folks). This has been the one thing I would like to work with APple on is raising awareness in some fashion to developers. I realize it is not Apple's job to be in the advocacy business perhaps and maybe there is something that mentions all this from the initial step in developing software under Cocoa. However, if not, it would be nice to slip some language in somewhere that would call attention to being inclusive when a developer is creating software. I know this topic has come up for discussion from time to time and it seems progress has been made with iOS software developers and maybe this new app store concept for the desktop is an avenue for getting accessibility out there. Just tossing my musings out there for further consideration. Yuma, Good luck with the certification. I have XCode installed as well, but I am not a programmer and I have only used some of the tools for testing purposes under specific conditions and with direction from those who know what they are doing. :) I am going to go ahead and put together a more detailed description of the issues and send it along and hope it will inspire them to do something sooner than later. I think a lot of this is making them aware there is not much effort in labeling controls for one thing and it is the "right thing" to do. I understand everything is a priority; however, labeling buttons for example is a low-hanging fruit item, which means little effort for a greater return on investment of time/resources. Re: Sharing files on Mac and Windows...
Hi, This most probably has to do with how you have file sharing setup on both systems. Let's not make assumptions on the windows system as usually it is quite more open than macs :) On the mac, you should setup a shared folder, and in your accounts preferences get the shared folder for SMB. SMB is the protocl used by windows for file sharing. One more thing, since macs can only read on NTFS partitions, a mac can copy the file from a windows partition to its own partition, but i doubth you can place a windows file or folder from a windows partition to your mac partition. I haven't tried this, but freshly out of snow 101 certification, this is my best bet. This app tells you when the person face is centered in the frame and focused. hth Ricardo Walker rwalker...@gmail.com Twitter, Skype, and AIM: rwalker296 Google Voice: 1-646-450-2197 On Nov 27, 2010, at 2:25 AM, heather kd5cbl wrote: > Hello, I was wondering how easy it is to take pictures with an iphone? iWork: Numbers specifically
Hello all, I am looking for some additional documentation on using programs in the iWork suite with Voice Over. I would especially like information on using Numbers, as that is the program with which I am having the most difficulty. I have a spreadsheet I created in Excel which I use to keep track of books I have read. I have columns for author, title, series, etc. I would like to know how to jump to a specific cell, if that is possible. Additionally, I'd like to know how to search for text within the spreadsheet, for example, I'd like to be able to search for "Anne Rice", and jump directly to the first cell in the spreadsheet which contains that author's name. Thanks much, Joshua -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. To post to this group, send email to macvisionar...@googlegroups.com. sirius and xm radio
Is anyone using the on line version of sirius and sm? Also, have you tried to use the app on the iphone? Are either of these options very accessible? Thanks in advance for the info. I know there are plenty of very accessible radio apps. However, I am looking for one with lots of news and talk radio like cnn, msnbc etc. Thanks Nancy -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group.
