Installing Snow Leopard 10.6.3 From Scratch.
Hi folks! Maybe late but I took the plunge and bought my mac box set and want a fresh start. I was using windows xp with boot camp but want to get rid of it now and have the whole 120gb in the machine for the macos entirely. How do I get started to wipe out everything and begin installation? Many thanks. -- Georges Zaynoun Timmerv. 6A, SE54163 SKÖVDE Tel: +46500201623 Mobile: +46707567315 E-mail: humorlessg...@samobile.net Email services provided by the System Access Mobile Network. Re: Memory For MacBook White 13Inch.
Hey. More often than not, it is possible for blind people to carry out hardware modifications or repairs on laptops. You didn't state which macbook you had; apple put the memory in different locations sometimes. More often than not, it will be on the bottom of the computer or underneath the keyboard although increasingly it is becoming more popula to put it under the computer on it's bottom so to speak. If you have the correct screwdriver, it is really easy to fit the memory, although if you aren't feeling overly confident, you should be able to take it to a computer shop. Personally, coming from someone who sometimes charges for repairs, I would fit the memory for free. It's a 2 minute job and really shouldn't cost that much. In summery, I would give fitting it yourself a go, but if you did go to a shop, don't let them charge you that much - £20 at the most. VO labels dissapearing sometimes
Hi list, I got a few problems here with some VO labeling. Just 5 minutes ago, some of my skype buttons have lost their labels, those add contacts and call anyone anywhere ones. I can label them back but its a bit annoying to know that every blue moon VO decides to strip the applications of labels. Another instance is with Folx pro the download manager. Its pretty full of buttons and i took sighted assistance to label them, but as soon as i closed it it lost all its labels. Does anyone know where these labels reside, and maybe anyone know if perhaps syncing that folder in drop box by getting drop box to be the instance generator could alleviate this persistent problem? RE: Memory For MacBook White 13Inch.
Hello, Generally speaking, a totally blind person can modify the hardware memory but, in my opinion, it is not something I would recommend doing without sighted assistance, at least the first time. If no sighted assistance is available, then I would take it to a professional. I say this because the risk of damaging such a high cost machine is too great. That is to say, if you were referring to a $200 secondary netbook, it might be worth the risk. instapaper bookmarklet or any other bookmarklet
Hi list, Anyone know how to put a bookmarklet on the bookmarks bar? I'm trying to get the instapaper one on my favorites bar or somewhere easy to access but i'm not sure whats best. Since its a link in safari that people normally drag into some other place, it should be straight forward. But drag and drop affair on voice over was all but straight forward. Re: Does anybody know an easy way of making HTML.
Hi Annie, here's half an answer for you. :) You can import a text file or rtf into text edit and then simply save it as html. The text formatting will be preserved. There's a function in the edit menu of TextEdit to insert a link, so you'd need to highlight the text you'd like to create a link with, and you'll see a dialogue asking you where the destination should be. YOu'd then type in the web address the link should go to, and that's it. Once you save the document with the html extension, you can then open it in Safari or again in TextEdit and you should see your links and formatted text. Now, I say this is half an answer, because, while you can create larger font sizes for titles, format text and create links, I personally can't seem to find an easy way (short of manually tagging) to create headers. YOu could certainly do this afterward if you'd like. Am assuming you already know the header tags, but if not, just shout out and I'm happy to post them. They're really easy! :) HOpe this helps and do have a lovely weekend!… Smiles, Cara :) --- View my Online Portfolio at: http://www.onemodelplace.com/CaraQuinn Follow me on Twitter! https://twitter.com/ModelCara On May 27, 2010, at 2:58 PM, Annie Skov Nielsen wrote: Hi all. Re: instapaper bookmarklet or any other bookmarklet
Hi Yuma, To put a bookmarklet on your Bookmarks Bar, first create a dummy bookmark, such as by copying and pasting a bookmark you already have, then copy the link to the bookmarklet code from the contextual menu of the web page that tells you to drag and drop the bookmarklet into the address area for your bookmark. Here's the detailed sequence, assuming that you're starting from the web page that has the bookmarklet you want to put on your bookmarks bar. 1. Use Command-N to open a new Safari page 2. Press Command-Option-B to set this to "Show All Bookmarks" 3. Select the "Bookmarks Bar" in the table of collections. You can use item chooser menu, but I navigate to the table by pressing Shift-Tab, interact (VO-Shift-Down arrow), and use VO-Down arrow (or Up arrow) to move to the Bookmarks Bar. 4. Stop interacting and tab past the search field to the table listing bookmarks in your selected bookmark collection (e.g., the "Bookmarks Bar") and interact. 5. Navigate to the first bookmark in the table and make a copy (Command-C, then Command-V). You should now have two identical entries if you check by arrowing up and down the list. 6. Use the context menu (VO-Shift-M) to edit the name, and type a new name (e.g. "Read Later") 7. Now switch back to your original web page window with Command-` (e.g., Command-accent, where the accent key is the left-most key just below the escape key and above the tab key on an English language keyboard) 8. Navigate to the link you are told to "drag" to your toolbar, and use the context menu (VO-Shift-M) to copy the link. 9. Switch back to the Show All Bookmarks web page with Command-` (e.g., Command-accent) to paste in the bookmarklet into the address of the bookmark you created. 10. Use the context menu (VO-Shift-M) to edit the address. Press the delete key to clear the previous address and paste in the bookmarklet script you copied with Command-V. You're done. You can hide the "Show All Bookmarks" page or close the window (Command-W). If you check the page by showing the bookmarks bar (Command-Shift-B to toggle between hide and show), your new bookmarklet should be listed. (I usually keep the Bookmarks Bar hidden, so I don't have to tab through these entries, or have the bookmarks show up when I use item chooser menu, but you might want to check). Use the Command-1 shortcut to activate the bookmarklet (if it is in the first bookmark position). Remember that when you add bookmarks to the Bookmarks Bar they get added to the beginning, so the number of your shortcut will change. HTH. Re: Does anybody know an easy way of making HTML.
Hi Cara. I do not think, that we can find a way through this, that there is so easy than it was in word 2003. That is the only program that I sometimes miss on my mac. Because there I could get my headings to work very great. I have tried to find the codes and insert them manually, but to me it is not so easy to find the right place to add the headings tags, between all these codes. I would really love if there was a program that could do the formating before you save it as a HTML document. Re: Memory For MacBook White 13Inch.
It depends on how confident you are. At the end of the day, it's a memory replacement. It's not like your going to be replacing a lcd or a motherboard. If you want to have a bit of fun whilst learning and don't mind the tinyist risk in the world that you might break your macbook, then go for it. However, if this isn't for you then take it to someone. Like I say, don't let them charge you - it's a very simple job. On 29/05/2010, M. Paring the Brailliant 40 via Bluetooth
Folks, Has anyone successfully pared the HumanWare Brailliant 40 via Bluetooth with a machine running SL 10.6.3? I am quite certain I read this could be done, but either I am doing something wrong, I read incorrectly, or it is something else. Basically the Mac sees the display, I can select it, but it fails when I attempt to enter the key. It fails in the sense that the paring process fails; for clarification. The display works perfectly via USB. And I should also make the observation that I have used this display on my Mac and my employer's windows machine. There is no doubt that the Brailliant performs much better on the Mac than windows. It simply works and works incredibly well. I could not be more impressed. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. I've paired it with the mac and it works fine. You have to pair it through the VO utility and if the key doesn't work I tried some of the common keys suggested in the VO help you can get by clicking on the help button in the pairing window. Hello; I have a regular macbook from may of 2008, and it has never made any noise when typing in the secured fields. I have wondered about it. I wish there was a fix. itunes home sharing
Hello listers, I cannot figure out how to get a song off of another computer onto my computer. So far, it appears that I have home sharing set up properly between the two macs. I had my husband check for the proper icon that is not announced by voiceover. I watched the video about itunes nine and read the help and the instructions tell me to drag and drop the songs. Well, that is not an option for me :). Is there a way to do this via the keyboard. I just want to select a song and then add it to my library. There is an import button at the bottom of the screen however, I'm afraid to select this as I do not want to import the whole library from the other computer. I just want to pick and choose a few songs. Does anyone know how I can accomplish this? I may be doing something wrong but I tried copy and paste and nothing happened. I also tried going up to the file menu and selected add to library while the song I wanted was selected but it just opened up a dialog box where I was to search on my own computer and choose the file. This was no help as the file/song I want is not on this computer. :) Thanks so much, Christina -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: itunes home sharing
Hi Christina, I got this to work. First you must find the file in his library by going to his library in your sources list. Do a search in the searchbox for the song you want. Go to the songs list and select the song you want to import. Then stop interacting with the list and move the VO cursor tot he right and you'll see an import button. If just one song is selected, you can hit the import button and it'll put it in your library. To check that it's there, go back to your sources list and go select your own library and search for the song you just imported. IT should appear in teh song list. Let me know if this doesn't work, but I've just done this recently. I haven't triedmulti=file imports, just one at a time. Re: itunes home sharing
If I don't do the search and I'm just arrowing down the list in the library of the other computer and I only have the one song selected and I select that import button will it only import that one song I have selected? I'm just confirming as I do not want the whole library. :) I will do the search for now so that there will only be the one song showing up in the songs table just in case for now until I hear back. :) Thanks so much, Christina On May 29, 2010, at 11:53 AM, Ronit Ovadia Mazzoni wrote: > Hi Christina, > I got this to work. Re: itunes home sharing
Yes you don't have to search for the song, I just know that libraries are big and it's sometimes hard to arrow down until you find the song you want. But yes, if only one is selected, it will only import that one song, not the whole library. Hope it works for you! I love this feature ofthe new itunes. Cursor Behavior
Hi Folks and happy Memorial Day weekend. My question is this. Recently switching from the windows platform, while typing in any of the windows word processors, the insertion point is always to the left of what ever character or space is announced when pressing the arrow keys. I seem to get varying results with this on the Mac so far. I've gathered from reading threads in the past that has something to do with the cursors all following or not following each other, but I'm still a little confused and this is really driving me batty. Thanks for any enlightenment you can spread my way and, as always, you guys who selflessly continue to give invaluable information to us newbies on this list simply rock!!! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: itunes home sharing
This file might be a protected drm itunes song. Try importing a straight mp3 file first. IF this works, you'll know your sharing is done correctly. If you are trying to import a song that is protected, you must authorize your computer to play his protected itunes purchased songs. I think there is an option in teh menu of the store that lets you do this. You'd basically select the authorize function and enter his uername and password and that should work. But in order to check the sharing function, try importing just a straight unprotected mp3 file first. Hi Christina: I just figured this out yesterday. The easiest way to do this is using the home sharing. If you look down your source list, you should find the library from oyour other computer. Move to the song list, and use option-shift-down arrow to select any song you want to bring over. Next, tab to a button marked "import", and enter. The selected songs will port into the library on the mac you're working on. skype update on iphone
Hi Listers, Today there was an update for the skype application on the iphone., The newest version allows you to make skype calls over the 3g network. I've 2 things about the latest update: 1) 4 voice over commands don't work anymore that worked before: The two finger flick up for read the hole screen, the read from cursor and the irritating one swiping right or left don't bring you to the previous or next element on screen. the only way you can use right now is dragging your finger on the screen and voice over announces what you touch. So all users of the skype application with voice over should report this as a bug and hopefully the guys at skype will fix this soon as possible. 2) This is jut a remark, the update says that skhype to skype over 3g will be free until the end of august and then they will charge a bit for skype to skype calls. This was just for info and please report this to skype. The more reports maybe the faster a fix will be available. Very cool voip
Hi all, Whistle phone is very cool. You can make computer to land lines calls for free. The web site is: http://whistlephone.com/ You get a phone number so people can call you from there cell or land line. The first window that comes up is completely unaccessible. This is where you type in the number that you want to call. Fortunately if you copy a number to the clip board when you bring up the app just paste and press enter and it will dial your number. You can also use your address book to make calls. Enjoy. louie louiem...@wavecable.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: skype update on iphone
Hello Peter. I just downloaded the latest version of Skype and all previously working Voice Over commands continue to function normally, including the gestures noted by Peter. Please note that I am running a beta of the next version of the iPhone OS so this may have something to do with the difference in results. I am so glad that 3G Skype access is finally here. Have you tried terminal mode? just a thought, I had the same trouble with the BrailleNote as I stated in my previous message. Do not pair through the VO utility menu. FOr some reason it doesn't work. importing mp3 files into itunes
Hi all, I have a lot of mp3 files that I really don't want going into my music library, since they aren't music. I want eventually to get them onto my ipod, and the only way I know to do that is via Itunes. Thee are old time radio programs and lectures and all sorts of other nonmusical sound recordings. Is there any way to fake Itunes out and somehow get these things in there and transferred over to the Ipod? Or am I out of luck? Thanks a lot Apple. Itunes just doesn't seem to be flexible enough to meet my needs. But am I overlooking something? Re: importing mp3 files into itunes
I would just put them into playlists on iTunes since, to my knowledge, there is no way to side load material into the iPod touch. If you have a Nano, though, I believe that can mount as a flash disk on the Mac's desktop. Re: Paring the Brailliant 40 via Bluetooth
Matt, Thanks, I did not see this in the documentation, which means I simply missed that section somehow. So, it worked beautifully. Ok, first attempt failed and muttered something about not being able to load the driver, but sure enough a second attempt and all was well. Just a question, in the advanced menu of the Brailliant, when you toggle between USB and bluetooth, does this toggle the bluetooth radio on/off? Just wondering if I left it set to bluetooth if this will reduce the overall life of the battery because the radio is on. Re: Noise for secure edit fields
Hi, It's funny this is brought up again. I've noticed it depends on which websites and which apps you are using. I wonder if it is sometimes the way they are coded? Hi Courtney, Have you tried either Audio Hijack or DVD Remaster? I think m4v's have to be converted to mp4s first but I'm not totally sure about that. I hope that helps. I think DVD Remaster will extract the audio. A podcast on it is forthcoming from me on my podcast site. hey allison is mv4 similar to mp4? i use a free program called max to convert mp4's to mp3's. and Also, vlc player might do it. the process has too many steps for my taste, but it has a wide range of formats it can convert from and to and its free so that might be an option. good luck, max On May 29, 2010, at 10:27 PM, Allison Manzino wrote: Hi Courtney, Have you tried either Audio Hijack or DVD Remaster? Re: a skype question
Hi Tia, Hmm the contacts status as to whether they are online or not hasn't been fixed yet to my knowledge in Skype. If it has, I don't know about it. To retrieve your Voicemail go to the menu that says contacts or something like that voicemail is in there I think. It hsould tell you if you have any messages in there. I amgoing by a version of Skype that worked on Windows, but I think the same principal applys here. I have to take a look at my Skype on this machine with VoiceOver. Have a great day.
