Re: full format?

2009-08-09 Thread Søren Jensen

Hi.

Yeah. You can fully format your drive with your Leopard disc. You have
to do the following:
1: Insert the disc and hold down the c key to boot up from the disc.
2: When the disc stops spinning, start Voiceover
3: Select your language
4: Go to the menu bar, choose Utility and choose Disc Utility
5: Select the Erase tab
6: Choose the drive from the table you wanna format, and make sure you
choose the right drive. :)
7: Click on the Erase button...

Re: Manually putting music on IPhone using Windows

2009-08-09 Thread Kieren

you can specify a single playlist to be synced with your iphone/ipod.
You choose the "phone" and navigate to the music tab then select sync
music.
then choose the selected playlists button then you can select any
number of playlists to be synced to your ipod.

Alternatively if you really want to manage it manually you should be
able to examine your music collection and copy the tracks then select
the music section of the iphone and paste them in.

I only use OS X but this should work. so if it doesnt you may be stuck
with syncing selected playlists which should be easier to manage
anyway.

stopping an Audio Hijack session

Hi,

I am trying out Audio Hijack Pro. I tried recording something off the

do I do to tell it I'm done with the session? I can't find a Stop or

Re: stopping an Audio Hijack session

2009-08-09 Thread A-Pro Studio

Hi Anna,

If you have the checkbox in Record enabled, AHP is recording, to stop
recording, disable the checkbox for Record. When you enable the Record
checkbox, HiJacking will automatically be enabled, so you do not need
to press them both to start recording. You can also set AHP up to
start and stop recording based on the input source level, but you can
take a look at that feature later on You might also configure a
hot keystroke to start and stop recording on-the-fly take a look
in the preferences for that feature.

Hope this helps a little.

Take good care,
John André

Iphone question

2009-08-09 Thread Christian

Hi all,
OK, so I managed to see the Iphone a bit more today.
A friend of mine helped me to start VoiceOver and then he pressed ok to confirm
the gesture change.
Later on the screen was black from what he told me but I suppose it's the
setting that will turn off the screen if VOiceOver is turned on.
Anyway, I managed to find out the status by tapping at the top left of the
screen and I was also able to mute and unmute speech with three fingers double
tap.
But I couldn't get out of the screen and also I managed to start some music
playback. I moved my fingers from left to right but not much happened. Will see
the ihone gain soon, any tips?
many thanks,
Christian

Re: recording from mike and line-in

2009-08-09 Thread Esther

Hi Anna,

You could get the free LineIn application from:

http://rogueamoeba.com/freebies/

This allows you to plug your iPod into the line-in connector on your
Mac with a mini-to-mini plug connector and press a Pass Thru button in
the app to direct the output of the iPod to your Mac's speakers. The
Ma doesn't support the pass through function natively, and this can be
useful, for example, when you want to monitor your recording level
into the line-in when you are digitizing old cassette tapes, for
example. Recording and editing programs such as Amadeus Pro often
have such a feature built in.

Select Input from Built-In Line In and send Output to Default System
Outlput.. Then press the "pass-thru" check box.

Another useful app from the same Rogue Amoeba freebies page is
SoundSource, which shows the volume levels and sources of your output,
input, and system on the status menu bar. It's not necessary, but
it's a very convenient way to switch your input source from Line In
back to Internal Microphone afterwards and also to set/monitor the
volume levels or access your Sound Preferences or Audio Midi setup.

Cheers,

Esther

JAWS License and Fusion

2009-08-09 Thread Kane

Hi again folks,

I encounter something that I think, personally, is kind of bizzarre.

I installed a virtual Windows XP Professional machine last night, and
it worked rather well. I installed my JAWS license as soon as
everything was ready to go. Afterwards, I decided to try to find a
balance where allocation of ram was concerned. Here's what happened.

I keep the allocation of ram on 512 which is the recommended setting
and install the JAWS license. I then, as mentioned above, wanted to
play around with it. I changed it to 600, and found out that JAWS
required another activation. I changed it back to 512, and I had no
trouble. I changed it to 386, and I was asked to activate JAWS once
again. I changed it back to 512, and it was all good.

Anyone know why it affects it like that? Or am I the only one having
this issue?

Thanks.

Re: JAWS License and Fusion

Jaws probably thinks that a different memory allocation means a
different machine, virtual or not; I wonder if you could change the
simulated processor speed or chipset emulation and get a similar
response from Jaws.

I believe that whenever you change the amount of RAM you alocate, the

Hi. That is correct. Just like if you would have changed ram modules in a

Likewise, when you do it virtually in fusion.

Focus on the podcast's name and press VO-Shift-M. If there are podcast

Re: Undownloaded podcasts in i-tunes.

Hi Daniel,

Daniel Crone wrote:

>
> I have learned how to download podcasts with v o shift m.
> But is there a way to tell itunes to download every episode of a
> podcast?

To download every available podcast episode from a feed, simply use
the same VO-Shift-M (that's Control Option Shift M) shortcut to bring
up the contextual menu and choose "Download Podcast Episode", but do
this while your VoiceOver cursor is positioned at the folder for the
podcast series in the Songs table. (For example, this is where you'll
hear something like "Blind Cool Tech expanded level 0".) That's the
equivalent of going through the list of all undownloaded episodes in
the folder one by one and issuing the command to "Download Podcast
Episode". Some podcast feeds have hundreds of episodes stored on
them, so exercise care here. You can also select multiple episodes in
the songs table, either in a block by pressing the shift key and
arrowing down, or by using the procedure for non-contiguous selection,
and then bring up the contextual menu (VO-Shift-M) to download
episodes, add to a playlist, etc. en mass.

HTH

Cheers,

Esther

Re: JAWS License and Fusion

2009-08-09 Thread Kane

I don't believe that's quite correct. IF it would have the same effect
on a physical computer, that is. I put extra ram in an actual XP
machine I had a couple weeks ago, approximately 2GB and I didn't have
the same problem as I do with Fusion whatsoever. It just seemed to run
smoother, as it should.
Unless I'm the exception. But yes, I certainly didn't have to
reactivate or remove the ram.

Messenging slow with Adium

2009-08-09 Thread Robert Carter

Hi,

I am using Adium with my Windows instant messenger account. People are
telling me that it takes a couple seconds after I quit typing for them
to see the message. I do not experience this lag with other messenger
clients running in windows. Does anybody else experience this lag with
Adium? Does anybody have a fix for it?

Thanks,

file sharing setup.

2009-08-09 Thread Jon Cohn

I just set up file sharing and noticed that the buttons are mislabeled
if you attempt to customize what is shared and to whom.

If anybody has a need to know about this let me know and I can walk
you through the steps.

By default when you turn file sharing on it is only enabled for
computers running the AFB protocol and for the "public" folders under
each user. This can be adjusted by you to allow SMB (Windows style)
file sharing. There is also the ability to allow NFS, but I think
this only works when using the Command Line Editor. NFS is the file
sharing used by almost all varieties of UNIX including Linux.

I will try to explane this as best as I can. when you change the ram

using the older hardware. I will be more then happy to help you if

Re: reading books on the iphone

2009-08-09 Thread Greg Kearney

Here is my sad report on the state of iPhone book reading applications
on the iPhone Touch. I downloaded the following ebook reading
application:

eReader
Stanza
Kindle
R&N eReader

I am sorry to report that none of these applications are accessible
with voiceover on the iphone. With the exception of Stanza none permit
you to even see the list of installed books. Further it would seem
from my study that the inaccessibility would appear to be a deliberate
decision and not some kind of programming error as not having an
accessible interface in the iPhone require the developer to
deliberately choose to develop a none accessible control.

Stanza may well be a design flaw as the issue there is not the
inability to reach and read but one of not being able to turn the
pages due to the assumption of a single tap on the right or left hand
side of the screen.

I am unsure why the developers of ebook readers have decided to
implement their readers as they have. I suspect it may be due to the
Author's Guild suit in the U.S. against the Kindle reader.

Setting up SMB on the macintosh.

2009-08-09 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn

  setting Dear Friends,
These instructions are just the overview. I assume the reader is
familiar with configuring system preferences.
1. Go to sharing system preference pane.
2. Select file sharing in the "Services" table.
3. Click the options button (if problems make sure the system
preferences are unlocked)
4. Click the SMB check box to enable windows style file sharing.
5. There is a table of user names below this check box. You must click
each check box for a user that is allowed to use SMB this will then
ask for that users password.
6. Click the OK button to return to the main sharing panel.
7. There are two untitled tables in the sharing pane. The first one is
a list of directories that can be mounted. (Sharepoints) The second
table lists users and their permissions for the selected sharepoint.
Below these boxes are 4 buttons which are incorrectly ladled.
The "Add Users" button is actually "Add Sharepoint", the "Add
Sharepoint" is actually "add user" and the same can be said for the
remove buttons. What is also interesting and I have not investigated
is that it appears that entries in your address book can be added as
file sharing users.

Hope all of this helps and does not confuse.

Re: Setting up SMB on the macintosh.

2009-08-09 Thread ben mustill-rose

Thanks for this. I've been meaning to do something like this for a
while but I hadn't got round to googling it. Would you happen to know
if I would be able to share a hole drive with write access fora given
user as apposed to sharing every folder indervidually? I'm used to
disabling simple file sharing on my pc's and then having access to the
default admin shares which include every drive. On that note, do you
know if I am able to append $'s to the share names so that they are
hidden like I do in windows?
Once again, thanks.

Hello Greg and all:

Thank you for your email.

Do you have any information about the iceberg reader? I observe that
many books in the itunes store seem to be using this. Any thoughts
would be appreciated.

I ask because some books though stated as being available in audio
form in the itunes store are now only available in iceberg reader.

Thank you for any response you might send.

mac and voiceover localised to other languages

2009-08-09 Thread Rebecca

Hello:
I am specifically looking for Mac software and VoiceOver localised to
Welsh. Does anyone know if Apple has produced a Welsh version of Mac
products and if VoiceOver can be purchased for Welsh? Conceivably, if
Apple is committed to having speech as integrated as possible, it
can't simply stop at English, I hope, can it?

Re: mac and voiceover localised to other languages

2009-08-09 Thread Simon Cavendish

Dear Rebecca,

I, too, am a Welsh speaker, and I have already been e-mailing Apple
about the Welsh language. There are no languages nor localisation
available in the Welsh language and not likely to be. However, Welsh
keyboard layout is a part of the operating system as standard, and one
can choose it easily. It works well, providing the y and w with
circumflex - which is usually difficult to produce on other keyboard
layouts. I'm afraid the Welsh language needs are not being recognised
because the small numbers of Welsh speakers. It will have to be down
to somebody in Wales to do it, and I haven't found such a somebody
with a know-how. I use refreshable Braille with my mac so I can just
about cope with working in Welsh.

Best wishes, Simon
